#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Okay, are belly button piercings "trashy," or do you just associate them with femininity, or women, or sex work and strike it down as inherently less worthy? Are 'tramp stamps' "trashy", or do you just associate them with femininity, or women, or sex work and strike it down as inherently less worthy? Is pole dance "trashy", or do you associate it with women, or sex work and strike it down as inherently less worthy?
These are examples, but I find it interesting when people link things with womanhood or femininity or - gasp! - sex work and then immediately condemn, scrutinize, and dehumanize those who even dapple a little in these things, even if it isn't for sex work or to "look trashy." It's funny how the feminine or woman is seen as trashy until proven otherwise, and it's shameful that people still hold the bias that women must prove their humanity by not "being trashy" or "acting like a hooker."

im being so so brave but also i am gripping you by the shoulders and leaning in and letting you know i am so tired of being brave
#my job has invented new and even more agonizing ways to make itself stressful to endure#and that isn't even counting the fact that i've now seriously fucked up my wrist transporting 30lb boxes up and down stairs#or the fact that i occasionally get piercing shoulder pains if i'm not super careful about how i use the hand truck#or the fact that whenever i come home on mondays my entire lower body is so sore that i can't move beyond a weak shuffle#it's the fact that my boss has no sense of organization#so my supervisor and i are basically salvaging or starting from scratch every week#it's the fact that some of our clients are asking for things we're not even contracted to provide#like access to our company materials or additional resources outside of our scheduled bookings#and that there's this constant looming threat of 'ohhh don't be bad at your job!! or else we'll lose our contract with these people!!'#but 'bad at your job' in this case means 'not bending over backwards to accommodate the least accommodating circumstances possible'#like 'hey you need to lead this training exercise meant for 20 people except actually you only have 4 people'#'and actually none of them are familiar with the prerequisites for this training or have any experience with the skills'#'and also none of them want to be there and half of them just Don't Do These Things as a rule'#'and if you try to make them do anything they don't want to do (even if it's literally the point of the training) they Will leave'#'and then we will no longer have enough clients to pay you'#like. what am i doing. this company was not designed to work with this format. we're not an arts and crafts group or a club meeting#hi so i wrote this post before starting weekend work prep#it has been 3 hours now#im still not done#i haven't eaten and my wrist hurts so bad#i need to.................. take a break................................

I know that was a shitpost for the latest Danny Phantom fandom meme, but I'm genuinely impressed and how authentic it sounds. How much of Dash's monologue is real advice, and how do you know all of that? Do you work out?
Yes I'm so sorry to inform my good people of Tumblr that I've secretly been a part of the gym fandom for all this time. I've only recently come out as a gymbro in this phandom via my creation of the current dp gym bro au meme that I've forced upon everyone in this good holy christian space. I mix whey protein into my overnight oats, I track my macros, and I have a closet full of Gym Girlie Outfits鈩笍.
And just know it's a badge of honor that I carry to be able to say I've converted multiple members of the Danny Phantom phandom into regular gym goers as well 馃挭
#all jokes aside i grew up in a very athletic family#where talking about things like gym routines and protein tracking was very normal#i worked as a tennis coach for a few years before i was injured (by my own hubris) and was forced to quit#i've been rebuilding my body basically from like the ground floor since the injury#and while at first it was frustrating cuz i had to learn how to do things i'd always been able to do before#(and yes i did cry on my yoga mat more than one time in the beginning)#now i'm learning to have fun with it!#im still very weak compared to where i once was#and it doesn't help that i was set back by other injuries that came from not taking care of myself like a bad knee#but slowlyyyy i'm getting there#i once thought i'd never be able to do an unassisted pull up again#and now i can see it within my reach!#very exciting#i love love loveeeee being strong#Also yes it's real advice to train the 'minor' muscles#for example a lot of lower back pain comes from a weak glute medius#ppl be focusing on the glute max cuz it's the big one and forget about the other glutes#compound exercises are a great way to hit multiple muscles at once

ive talked to a lot of ppl who have taken vyvanse now and i think ik a bit more on how i need to live on it
#1) dopamine drops on lower dosages or high dosage but in the evenings feel like hell and it wont ever stop you have to just breathe#you will stop breathing well and you wont notice it so you have to remember to breathe deeply. this helps immensely for some reason#2) you will stop processing the existence of food as a consumable thing and not just an object like Table or Cardboard. you will not want to#eat anything. you have to buy meal replacement shakes. sweetness is one of the only pleasant flavours. eat protein. eat as much protein as#you can. down those meal replacament shakes. get enough for a day. try not to into calorie deficits on vyvanse.#3) your mind will be searching for cognitively complex tasks and everything else dwarfs in comparison. dont lay down. do something.#4) you have to exercise. fully exercise at the gym not a home 20 min work out. you need to push your body right now so that you can be ok#5) nothing will be as intense and vivid and beautiful and there will be a layer of seperation between you snd reality even on a lower dosage#this is fine. this is the primary price. sunlight helps and so does doing complex tasks but you cant avoid this. remind yourself that this#is a self-induced thing and its temporary and itll fade.#6) youve been ship of theseus'd into a new person and this effect only increases later into the day. any conclusion you reach about yourself#is most likely not applicable to your non-vyvanse self.#7) carry chapstick around. keep drinking water. dry mouth starts 5 minutes after taking it#8) some of your friends have a reduced range of emotion and this makes them more stable but less capable of experiencing intense joys#and sadnesses. look at them. listen to their perspective. live like them when youre on the medication.#9) music is still gorgeous#10) you will feel very hot very fast. wear layers you can take off.#11) pick up a bow and shoot. keep shooting. keep going. shoot at least 50 arrows if you can. feel the pain in your arms and your shoulders#and then keep shooting.

need to be put in the machine that twists your bones and muscles into symmetrical and healthy positions
#a side effect of riding a motorbike is that all the muscles in my left leg get more exercise than my right#because the gear shift pedal is on the left and i'm constantly moving my left foot up and down#while my right foot is only pressing down on the brake when i'm braking#and also they teach you to always come to a stop with your left foot on the ground so i'm also getting more exercise from that#all of this means that my posture has shifted over the years and become lopsided in ways that plague my right hip and lower back#and on top of this is a similar problem with the constantly-used clutch being at the left hand#and the less-frequently-used front wheel brake being at the right hand#meaning my left hand arm and back muscles are also much more exercised than my right#because you hardly ever squeeze the front brake as suddenly and firmly as the clutch unless you wanna go over the handlebars#i'm like fucking two face or some shit itcs ridiculous and irritating#if i could just replace the right half of my body with a reflection of the left half i'd be golden >:(

Finally worked up the courage to ask my parents for a hip brace of some sort for my birthday and they thought it was the funniest thing in the whole wide world. I do not think I will be receiving one.
#my joints hurt#so bad#all the time#and when i asked they laughed really hard#then told me my joints only hurt cause i don't exercise enough#father i don't exercise because my joints hurt#i literally have to curl up with an icepack every night from how bad my lower back hurts all the time#been trying to tell them that i think I've got EDS (or something similar) for months now#cause i have like a billion symptoms#but NO there鈥檚 NO WAY their kid could POSSIBLY be anything but COMPLETELY functional and able-bodied#I'm not even kidding you when i say i am in the process of making a slideshow listing all of my symptoms to try and help me convince them#it is literally 22 slides long#and I'm not even done with it#at this point I'm just gonna buy my own brace or compression items myself#cause my grandma just gives cash for birthday's and Christmas so i can just use that#thank you grandma for possibly funding my ability to exist without pain 馃挍

After a lazy day yesterday, I'm back on it this morning.
A good combination of resistance and cardio for my lower body to start my day.
Then the part of my day that I always look forward to - coffee and peanuts as the sun rises.
An hour later, it was out in that wonderful natural light for a muddy, but excellent walk.
Made more excellent with a lovely coffee break towards the end!

Did my first in person PT yesterday.
Good news: I'm on the right direction with my back. Forever grateful that my sister was able to get me started because I think if I'd been trying to manage on my own for the last month we would be in a bad place right now. I was basically doing everything wrong either by pushing too hard or by doing the opposite of what was needed because that's usually what I did for my back in the past. Still probably have a good month before I'm in the clear though. This is apparently pretty easy to re-aggravate. I will have to miss my grumpy stinky birbs (who are molting right now so extra grumpy and stinky) for a while longer.
Bad News: We worked on my knee which occasionally hurts when I bend it and nothing hurt yesterday, couldn't replicate the pain (it's very intermittent) but boy am I feeling it today. Not terrible, still walking around fine, but I am very much aware that my knee is having a moment in a way that I having felt in a while.
#I have at least another month of going in once a week for PT#also working on things to help prevent reinjury#like core exercises and lower body squatting and lifting#so I'm not straining my back so much#I tend to just fold in half to pick things up because I'm flexible enough to do that#turns out bad long term strategy#lift with your legs not your back etc etc#life at nerdy holler
