I think most people have seen the Target ASL wrapping paper at this point? If not, ere you go

I did want to get it, but my family doesn't celebrate Christmas. So I decided to make my own and design it in a way that I thought would be more fun and personal

I spent over a month drawing and designing this wrapping paper

Each hand was completely drawing from scratch and even the hands signing the same letter (Like Tim and Damian signing "P") are both individually drawn because I wanted them to all have unique and sizes and shapes.

I also gave them glove designs that would easily read as their character

I wanted to get this actually printed as wrapping paper but it was too late into December by the time I'd finished and I definitely didn't have the money for that. If I had the opportunity and money I totally would but currently I do not.

My mom and actually my ASL teacher, along with others are trying to get me to sell this but that requires money.

I'm always really hesitant to share my things like this because I want them to stay my own things and ideas but I've been told a lot to share this, so I am.

I actually have a lot of ideas for other ones like these I'd like to make in the future that I might work on sometime soon? My schedule willing though they'll probably just live on my computer.

But maybe if I get a way to do it I'll make this and other designs I do available :D until then please keep in mind this is a very personal work to me even if it might not seem that way

due to many factors, i have decided to leave the United States once it becomes feasible, and i want some suggestions on safe places. ultimately, nowhere will be completely safe, but ideally somewhere with either low*er* rates of antisemitic violence, robust legal protection of jews specifically, low rates of violence in general, and ease of migration. (also, preferably a decently sized jewish population)

after having had time to get going, i have to say that the asl site is more than excellent; it is a sort of depressing example of what the internet used to be. the teacher is excellent, charismatic and encouraging (big p [professor] energy, absolutely a creature native to the university biosphere); the methodology utilizes short and long term recall/spaced repetition, literally the only way i actually learn, but also generally a banger. all great, sure, but then take into account the simple, clean, straight-forward presentation of the site and material therein. there is no app. it doesn't need a mobile version because the design is so simple. everything you need is always available. you can't make an account. you are expected to keep up with your own progress. you are expected to self-motivate, without community, and follow the lesson plans without having your hand held. you are expected to only contact the site owner if something is broken or if you have a question that absolutely can't be answered through other means. most importantly, it's all free.

there used to be tons of sites like this, sites with quality material that could easily be paywalled but were instead served to the public woth no strings attached with a sense of community. maybe tae kim's japanese language guide is another linquistics-based example of old internet surviving.

on the other hand. on the other fucking hand. i got wind of what looks to be a great fundametals drawing resource: love life drawing. maybe quality. free. but you have to sign up to even access the material. the site is not fun to use on mobile or in low data/inconsistent internet availability areas. all significant instruction is in the form of a long video. oh, and that's not even the fun part. the fun part is actually a two parter. one, once you register, you are not taken to an ordinary site, but some strange container mimicking a site. excellent. seems reliable. enduring. then two, you ty to login on mobile and are forced to download a whole entire fucking app just to access the "site." anti-user hostilities all the way down.
