tumblr's fun because whenever i remember a piece of media i haven't thought of in years i go "ohhh i wonder if anyone on tumblr liked it too. it was pretty niche tho, so probably not," and without fail, every single time, there are at least a dozen people dedicated to making content about it, if not a thriving fandom

Day 1: Heterochromia I’ve come to the revaluation that my sona is already cringe as hell considering not only can his entire body change color but he also has differently colored eyes as a staple of his design. They’re usually yellow and blue but this time I color picked the blue from the trans flag and the mint from the Vincian flag for this color palette, it turned out really pretty :)

Day 2: Self Insert Now she isn’t my self insert anymore, but back in the day when I was at “peak cringe” she definitely was. This is my warriors OC Icypelt and I have a post going over part of her story on my profile somewhere. She’s been through a lot and I think her modern design is very pretty :)

Day 3: Unnecessarily complex fit/design Spider scene is kinda infamous in my brain for having wayyy too much detail but I love them and I think this might be my favorite one out of this batch, super cute, the pose is really cute and the colors are nice and fits her really well :D

day 4: Angel x Devil inevitable MCR reference ik, Helena and Revenge, love them dearly. Poor revenge man this one is cute and looks like a sticker!!

Day 6 (I skipped day 5 because I didn’t want to open up ms paint today): neko i kinda hate this one but cat Gerard yay

Day 7: Pinterest base at first I wanted to draw hobie in place of Gwen but I remembered that I haven’t really drawn Mikey with her even though they’re supposed to be friends so I drew her instead. Idk. The height difference is not accurate because of that but Jumping Spider is small because he’s based on a jumping spider and those are tiny who would have thought

Day 8: tumblr sexyman i have never played undertale a day in my life i just know a lot of people wanted to jump sans’ bones

day 9: Crossover ship/rarepair OH BOY THIS ONE GOES KIND OF HARD AND IM EMBARRASSED ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY KIND OF WORK FOR EACH OTHER UM MIGUEL OHARA X CLOTTED CREAM COOKIE IM INSANE OMG-

day 10: fursona i already have a fursona I already drew and yes I colorpicked from the lesbian flag how could you tell /j

Day 11: Yandere LYLA is technically canonically a yandere because spoiler alert she tried to kill Miguel’s fiancé via overheating her in the shower (essentially literally boiling her like a lobster) because she was “in love” with him (she said if she did have autonomy and had feelings the would be in love with him but she doesn’t but idk who knows I don’t).

day 12: niche interest ik MCR isn’t exactly “niche” but the black parades story in particular has always caught my interest and I have my own interpretation of it and a whole kind of story I’m still developing and character arcs and headcanons and interactions and yeah you get it, death in particular has evolved into god knows an OC on his own I just keep him attached to MCR because… it makes more sense that way, ig-

day 13: creepypasta does this count- whatever grimdark is just the same thing as a creepypasta- I’m not really in the MLP fandom anymore but it was my first ever “fandom” I was actually apart of. My first hyperfixation if you will. I wasn’t in the grimdark part of the fandom because I was too young for it but I was actually watching the izzzyzzz grimdark video and I was like “oh” and drew a rainbow factory Rainbowdash. Honestly I should draw ponies more they’re fun to draw

Day 14: candygore (?) im not good at drawing candygore and since I was rushing this o didn’t do it as well as I thought I can, but it still turned out pretty cool

Day 15: song lyrics aaaa inevitable hesitant alien drawing this one turned out so cute!! The colors and the sparkle eek so cute aaa action cat lyrics I’m breaking down right in front of you I’m sorry

planning on doing the rest of the month now, maybe not exactly on time since I’m still in school but I’ll try to get 31 drawings out by Halloween. Love the idea of cringetober because I just love all things cringe. Ack this is so good

Hey wow, thanks for the message! I actually had to think about this one quite a bit. I'm not always the biggest fan of my own work, but in recent years I have published a few fics that I ended up liking. These... might be in some particular order? Eh, I dunno! Anyway, here goes:

5.) "It's Up To You" (Portal). The one where Doug Rattmann is trying to repair Grady. This is the last Portal fic I did and probably ever will do (though, never say never, right?). I'm not sure why I envisioned Doug as a fan of Ricky Nelson but it kinda works. Like the rest of my Portal stories, I put a lot of heart into this one, but in the end it felt like a bit of a waste. Oh well, I still like how it turned out.

4.) "Fish is Also a Four-Letter Word" (Gensou Suikoden II). It's sort of a screwball comedy where Jillia kind of asks Klaus to use his strategist super-powers to kill her brother. This was one of those magic stories where it all just brilliantly came together in a matter of days, footnotes and all. Rarer still, it's a story I can re-read and go "oh, that was cute", without cringing!

3.) "Malus" (Soul Blazer). The tiny fic in the tiny fandom that could! The first story I've ever done that was narrated by a goat. It's such a sweet and gentle tale, and I still think this setting is really interesting. There are not a lot of fics for this old SNES game, but I guess it is kind of a niche title. I got about halfway through a follow-up (narrated by a dormouse) so maybe I'll finish that one some time too...

2.) "A Difficult Business" (FF14). Originally a shitpost on Tumblr, which should tell you everything you need to know, if you don't want to actually read the fic summary. It's the one where Y'shtola bribes Nero Scaeva to deep fry Nidhogg's eyeballs in the fry vat at the Husting Strip Galleria food court's Ol’ Mistbeard Fish ‘n Chips.

1.) "Mog House" (FF14). In here, there is only Mog. And House. Huh, this one also involves Nero in some manner of bribery (only this time he's the one doing the bribing).

Ironically (?), my actual #1 pick isn't something that I can link to because it hasn't been published anywhere yet! It's called "Ancient History" and it's a 16-chapter work of Ultima VII (Serpent Isle) fanfic that's going up on my Neocities. For whatever reason, I made the boneheaded decision that it would be the FIRST thing to go up on my website, along with a complete (read: way too verbose) timeline and character profiles and little pictures, the works! All of this is still under construction, HOWEVER the bulk of the actual writing/markup of it is DONE and has been for some time. It's really just down to the getting the formatting just right, plus some light revision and last-minute edits.

Oh yeah! I still need to write the epilogue. Hah!

Unfortunately, it looks like Dawntrail got in the way as it's currently taking up my "writing" time slot. 😅 However, I'm also making my way to the end of all that so I expect I can get back into finishing my website pretty soon as well.

It's something I don't really expect people to be interested in so I'm not putting this story on AO3 or anything like that. I'm really proud of the work I put into the website and the story and the little AU world I crafted around it, but in the end, it's something I did just for me. 😛

omg i am now Here. tbh i've been a part of the community for YEARS as a lurker, i've known about vore since 2019 LMAO- i used to lurk on DA and here for a loooong while. i feel like a little tiny veteran (to an extent.. ik there's people who have been here for way longer than me)

now that i have friends that like vore too, their input definitely helped me gained the confidence to actually interact with others and even post some of the stuff i've created :3 i've had this acc for a bit and used it especially early on when i was (admittedly) very cringe since i had nobody to ramble to, so if anyone seeing this ever goes back later than 2022.. whatever you find is your own fault LOL

i'm happy that i've already met a few ppl from posting this kinda stuff, even if we don't talk too much! everyone here has always been so cool and i feel like tumblr is the best place for soft, nonsexual stuff like this :3 it's our little niche!!

of course my blog won't be anything too formal lmao, i don't expect (or really want) a huge following so i don't form that mindset of "must create for the people, not myself"- this is just my little silly corner where i can ramble about my weird interests with other fellow weirdos :D

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? this is a tough one bcus a lot of my fics are straight up heart attacks. I usually end up defaulting to a small bit of hope to end things off when I go rlly dark, and the only time I didn’t do that was with “You can lean on my arm as you break my heart”, which is probably my darkest fic anyway. A handful of my fics end ambiguously bleak like that but I think the intensity of that one makes the sort of ambiguous sort of bleak ending extra upsetting. But most of my fics end badly

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Definitely “A vile hunger for your hammering heart” haha. That is one of my favorite fics I’ve written but it’s so niche and stupid it rarely gets any attention 😭🙏

Do you get hate on fics? I only ever got a hate comment once on my tiny Drabble collection, for tagging it as bpd cuz lestat was displaying some heavy bpd traits and they didn’t like that ig. I deleted the comment and vagued them on my tumblr and they showed up in my ask box so I hope this doesn’t summon them 💀. It was funny tho! Rlly rlly confusing stuff😭. But nah otherwise not rlly, which is surprising to me cuz I write some stuff definitely hate worthy 🙏but I don’t think hate is super common on a03, at least in this fandom

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I hate this evil ass question 😭 I don’t want to say millennia gate bcus I love her and so many ppl love her but I’ve rlly been struggling to find motivation to write her lately. Millennia gate is a reflection of such a specific time in my life and I used it to vent a bunch of issues I was having, and it’s hard for me to tap into that now that I’ve grown sm as a person. I think and hope that inspiration will come back to me tho cuz I hate the idea of abandoning her 🙏 my love child truly.

What are your writing strengths? I’ve been told I’m good at writing dialogue, themes, and pacing. Ive also been told im good at understanding and portraying characters in a way that’s true to the source material+ compelling, which is good cuz I write fanfic lol. A lot of ppl read my fics cuz they like my metas, so I think that’s a strong suit. I’m also a freak for metaphors 😭 oh my god I use elaborate figurative language in casual conversation, it’s bad. The best praise I ever got was from a teacher, she said I write like Anne rice but way better 😭. I don’t rlly think that’s true, but I love it.

What are your writing weaknesses? I find it hard to be subtle and let my writing speak for itself, I tend to hammer things home a bit too strongly so that the effectiveness wears off. I always fight the urge to write big blocks of unnecessary text just so the audience knows what I’m getting at, over explaining and stuff. I struggle with writing sentences that aren’t super long and clunky. I’m rlly bad with grammar. I can’t spell 😭. I also am blind to the quality of my own writing and tend to over edit unnecessarily cuz I find it hard to open up to beta readers

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I do it all the time. I don’t use google translate, I try to use more deluxe sources when I write in languages I don’t speak because I’d be so embarrassed if I got something wrong 😭. But I rarely write in a language I don’t speak for more then a sentence or two. Once someone who speaks French commented that they loved that they could read the French in my Lestat fic and I was so happy and relieved it was coherent to someone who speaks the language 😭

First fandom you wrote for? The first fandom I wrote for was technically the how to train your dragon books in my childhood notebook, but the first fanfic I ever published was for Harry Potter. I remember it was an angsty backstory fic about Remus lupin, lmao.

Favorite fic you’ve written? it changes, but right now it’s церковь в огне, because I re read and think about it as if it’s a fic I haven’t written 😭. But I have my favorite memories attached to “must have been the wind”, “A vile hungering for your hammering heart” and Millennia gate. I will always love Touka ♥️♥️ Kaneki and Touka both individually and as a couple are very dear to me. I also love them in different ways wkdbwj I like Kaneki a tiny bit more since he brings me a lot of comfort as a character and with his story. With touka, I get very defensive and act like a fangirl lol. I will always cherish and protect my female characters that have been wronged by the fandom >:3

I like to read other people’s works, look at artwork (because I can’t draw and I’m always so impressed by those who can), and I like to write.

I have read some amazing long fics and one-shots, but I’m not going to mention any. I’m always concerned I might hurt someone’s feelings, and I don’t want people to think their fics aren’t worth the time if they’re never recommended in something like this. :) (If you’re actually interested in what I’ve read, you can check my tags “drabble recs” and “fanfic recommendation”.) So, I’ll mention the fic I’m currently writing as it’s been therapeutic and allowed me to work through some of my personal issues.

Three of your favorite blogs to follow and why?

Every blog I follow is unique and amazing. To pick only 3 is tough, but here we go:

1. (@dystopicjumpsuit) DJ has written such incredible short and long fics that deal with genuinely raw and human emotions, feelings, experiences, and insecurities. I love the variety DJ has written (seriously, you can find a fic/ one-shot for any itch), and their blog has so many diverse stories and even drink recipes (I don’t drink and I’m fairly mediocre in the kitchen, but I’ve wanted to try some of DJ’s recipes because they look so fun).

2. (@starstofillmydream) Molly has written a seven-part (and ongoing) series of Commander Cody headcanons. Cody is one of my favorites and I love how niche yet realistic these headcanons are. I also appreciate the discourse and nuance Molly brings to Cody’s character, especially since she appreciates his character as the individual he is rather than devaluing him to a relationship status.

3. (@freesia-writes) I have to mention you (Free) because I enjoy seeing the chains you start. The engagement you bring to this community is positive and inclusive and it’s such a refreshing breath from some other fandom communities I’ve encountered. From your writing of so many clones, to the fun drabbles you do, I love what your blog offers the community.

Favorite SW character and why?

This one is hard because I have two: Wolffe and Thrawn.

Wolffe was the first SW character I truly came to love. His sarcastic, easily irritable personality, along with his stalwart loyalty, sheer intelligence, and strategic mindset (and his general badass vibe!) easily make him the SW character I have so much appreciation for. But the thing that made him stand out to me: in one of the comics, Wolffe gives a group of deserted clones an opportunity to prove themselves loyal rather than be punished for desertion. I’ve always thought it was a testament to his emotional intelligence and true leadership that he was willing to give these men an opportunity to regain his trust and loyalty. Wolffe is that type of character with a gruff, rougher exterior but deep down is emotionally driven to protect his brothers. And I think it’s admirable of him. I know we have minimal canonical information about him, but I love his character so much.

Thrawn is one of those characters I never expected to like but he forced himself into my life and I can’t go back. (I have to clarify, I am talking about Zahn’s Thrawn, not Filoni’s.) Thrawn in the Ascendancy trilogy brought so much nuance to his character. I like how he helps other characters reach their full potential, and is always challenging others to be the best version of themselves. He has this urgency to protect his people but also his galaxy, and the way he gets righteously angry with the enslavement and destruction of species in his part of the galaxy, along with his decisions to help these people, even when it means invoking the frustrations and dislike of leaders against him, makes him such a fascinating character to me.

Hi! As someone who played your quotev match-up quiz (and had a lot of fun with it), I’m kind of curious if your opinion on it has changed any now. I could tell from your posts that you value accuracy to canon when dealing with fan content about characters, so I was curious to see if the new character information released since 2022 has affected how you view it.

Dw it's not rude at all! I love to ramble on and on about my projects and characterization anyway, and I'll really glad you enjoyed it! It also fuels my ego a little to hear that you can tell lol.

I'm curious to know who was your top 3 and how accurate you thought it was, was it surprising in any way? If you don't mind ofc, I just love being nosy about what people think of my stuff lol.

To be honest, that quiz was always meant to be more on the wish fulfillment side for the readers, because that kind of quiz is usually taken by younger, more sensitive people as a whole and it's hard to do more nuanced takes in that format.

I also can't really have my usual interests be more obvious like I can on tumblr and AO3.

It was kind of my way of trying to do what older fans had done for me back in the Quizilla days. (RIP Quizilla, gone but never forgotten.) I actually preferred the edgy, in-character variants even back then, but the TWST fandom on tumblr is very...

Let's just say I'm very hesitant to interact with most TWST fans first, unless they post similar things, and that I've gotten anon hate just for posting that quiz while being a yandere/OBM!/adult (as in age) writer.

That being said, the point allocation was intended to be fairly accurate without any cheat answers, and I didn't wanna sugar coat the results too much.

Some characters are easier to "game" than others, and some have broader or more niche tastes, but if you're not careful you could get Sebek or Vil instead of Riddle for example.

Also, Idia and Jade are pickier than Rook and Floyd and the points try to take into account what the player would want as well.

I've adjusted the point spread a lot since then at different times.

A tiny bit due to new characterizations, but mostly because the point spread system is annoying to work with and because I realized not everyone will read the questions and answers the same way.

You also can't do negatives, which would've helped the quiz be a lot more accurate, but what can you do?

I actually really regret accidentally contributing to the whole "crybaby" Azul and thought about it re-doing his result soon after posting.

I've actually been thinking about it again recently, but I kinda don't want to take away what people are used to either.

I had initially thought that was a joke/affectionate bullying, but I found out not too long after that a lot of people seem to genuinely think that Azul cries over everything, despite canon saying that he's changed.

It seems like poor Azul has been hit with a double dose of woobification and ukeification by the fandom, and I'm not a fan. He's a pos (affectionate) like the rest of them, and I'd like him less if he wasn't.

Tbh, I actually think he's one of the most morally bankrupt in the entire cast, along with the Tweels and Leona. Like, he's dealing in literal, violence enforced slavery whereas Jamil is trying to escape it for example.

(I also hate what the Eng localization has done to poor Jamil, but that's another rant.)

Also, Rook has said a lot of questionable things to Vil and I'm unsure as to what the intentions were. Like, is Rook negging Vil when he points out millimeters of weight gain? Is it supposed to be a normal, "positive" thing because Japan loves to glorify EDs?

It makes the VDC thing look really bad too, not the actual vote itself, but all of his other actions imo.

I'm leaning towards Rook being manipulative tbh, because he has a pattern of it, already really disrespects non-humans, and is very socially savvy and close to Vil. (This isn't bashing btw, I still love Rook as a character.)

Otherwise, not much has changed other than me getting more comfortable with the characters and fandom I suppose?

I'm guessing you're caught up as an Idia fan? Good choice btw, and if you are the one that sent the Idia ask dw, I'll try my best to fulfil it too.

Tbh, I'm actually really disappointed that his parents are actually really cutesy. And, speaking as vaguely as possible, I honestly don't like the new fae lore in Ch 7 either.

I feel like Yana has suddenly decided to start downplaying the more serious, heavy tones and I'm not quite sure why? Maybe to ease players into a slightly more romantic slice of life continuation after the main story ends?

Idk maybe it was always planned, but I feel like it makes Idia seem a bit more like a generic whiny teenager. I still love him, but I choose to ignore that part of canon and give him more distant parents who are still struggling with grief and their work.

But feel free to disagree, I don't mind at all. It's just nice to have someone to talk about TWST with too!

my advice for writing ??? as someone who started writing in Dec 20222???? i'm not sure i qualify to give any type of advice darling😭 but i will say this:

you said you love writing so start there!! don't be afraid!!! if you feel like writing something GO FOR IT, it doesn't have to be novel, hell it doesn't even have to be a full paragraph, write down your idea, tell your story and see how you feel about it, my golden rule is as long as I like it and it makes ME happy reading it, then I’m good!! Literally just open up google docs, or your notes app, whatever, take a breath and type away!!! flood the page with our ideas and then start organizing it a bit etc, don’t put too much pressure on yourself because thats when you lose train of thought and lovely ideas float way, forget about posting and what the reader will think, for now just put your energy into story telling :)

don't worry too much about grammar and schematics in the early stages, just get your idea out, tell your story! In my first few stories I was very insecure about the fact that my tenses were all over the place, I obsessed over it wayyyyy too much (I still struggle with it ngl), we aren't writing legal documents here, cut yourself some slack!! also, english isn't everyone's first language! I use free grammarly its very helpful, I am terrible at spelling etc.

at the same time, be honest with yourself, yes you are a brand new writer and there is lots of room to improve so if and when you receive some feedback, take it!! don't see it as an attack or a reason to not write anymore, incorporate it to the best of your abilities and keep trying!!

be yourself!!! I cannot emphasis this enough, you may not be aware of it yet but you have a certain niche that is going to hit juuuust right for your reader! i've started using tumblr and reading fanfic again since nov2022 and i have come across a wide variety of writing styles, some i personally enjoy more than others (and that's ok!) but there are so many insanely talented writers in this little fandom alone it blows my mind, and each of them has their own unique writing style and a different way to tell a beautiful story, and we appreciate them all!! there is room for everyone <3

most importantly: don't let lack of engagement discourage you, this is easier said than done!! right before I posted child's play, I posted a small one shot titled A Two Way Street, it was different from my usual fluff and actually, it was my very first time writing angst! (a tiny amount lol) and I was so excited !!! I even wanted (and still do) to make a part 2 and had this whole idea planned out, but it sat around 10 likes for nearly two weeks, with no feedback or anything, it was crickets lol. It made me really sad and I started to second guess my idea and just the story overall, I even thought am I writing too much too fast for someone who just started?? Maybe I should take a break. When I got the idea for childs play not long after that, I said fuck it ,I posted it with 0 expectations, I just genuinely liked my idea and telling the story, again, I had an idea for part 2 but this time I told myslef to not expect anything and just take whatever comes my way. The response to that story is still unreal to me, I'm so glad that I didn't let something so small discourage me from writing all together, truthfully some of the best stories I've read on here get way less recognition than I believe they deserve, but that does not take away from the writers talent or the story itself!!!

anyway, that was sooooo much rambling, I hope I was able to encourage you even a tiny bit, you are absolutely capable and worth the shot, don't be afraid, I’m no genius I'm just a regular girl and if I can do it, you absolutely can!!!❤️❤️

1) How many complete fics/one shots do you have that you have not published (yet)? None. I don't sit on something for more than a few days after it being finished or I edit it to death.

2) How many WIPS do you have right now? I don't have anything really started, but I do have some notes down for two stories.

3) Do you take writing requests or write original ideas, or both? I mostly do whatever stories pop into my head, but I am definitely open to writing requests! Honestly I feel like sometimes I don't have any ideas but still want to write, so I love fulfilling others' story wishes.

4) If you do take requests, how many do you currently have? I have three sitting in my inbox that I plan on getting to; I've just been really busy lately and reading a lot of fic instead of writing.

5) How many fandoms do you write for? Just Lin characters (and haha, I count Bruno in there).

6) Are there any fandoms you wrote for in the past that you no longer write for? I got into writing fics waaaay long ago. I published the most for Doctor Who. I also wrote X-Files fic in notebooks.

7) Do you write for ships, reader inserts or other? I LOVE reader inserts! I will do ships as well, but most of Lin's characters don't have them so we have to make our own.

8) Niche fandoms/characters you write for? uh, my whole fandom? we are tiny but lovely. I got a ton of notes on my Encanto fic and got a little scared of that, haha. I just want to hide in my little fandom corner.

9) Do you read fics as well as write them? YES. I love reading fic. The only reason I started writing again is because I was reading so much of it.

19) Which do you prefer to write more? HC, drabbles, oneshots/fics, multi chapter stories, other? I like multi-chapters because I feel like I can delve into things a little more.

20) Are there any stories you have discontinued? If so, why? nope!

21) What is one of your main “pet-peeves” as a writer on Tumblr? although the LMM fandom is AMAZING, I know writers in other fandoms get hate and just, what is the point? if you don't like it, scroll on by.

22) Do you write a particular time of day? I write best in the evenings.

23) Do you listen to music, ambiance/noise, etc to write or do you need silence? mostly silence, though sometimes I have some movie soundtracks I listen to. I find it hard to write to anything with lyrics. however I LOVE making playlists for my fics and will play those constantly throughout my day while I daydream about my fic.

24) Do you outline your fics at all before writing? I'm a pretty big outliner, although it depends on the fic. One shots definitely just sort of come out as they will. But usually with multi-chapters I have a certain arc in mind for the story and make notes to help myself remember and keep myself on track. Pass Back Through The Heart (my Lee story) was heavily outlined because I had two fucking timelines going on at once and wanted each flashback to relate to what was happening in the present time in each chapter. That being said, things still changed along the way!

25) Do you post your writing as soon as you finish it, or do you schedule it to come out at a specific time/day?  I post within a few days of it being done. sometimes I like to let it sit for a day or two and then come back to it again with fresher eyes. For my last two multi-chapters, I was trying to publish a chapter every Sunday, which was a nice self-imposed deadline. I seem to work well with those.

Do you have any fic recs... you seem like a good connoisseur of like, that particular brand of thought-provoking gorgeous writing style holy crap I can’t believe someone wrote this intricate, delicate piece of fiction for free stuff. I don’t even care if it’s like about Pixar Cars I trust your taste fully on this. Asking for a friend.

Boy do I totally have exactly what you asked for. Below are recs largely from fandoms where I have had either zero or minimal engagement with the source material but whose authors I’d trust with my life. In no particular order: 

1. In the spirit of your Pixar Cars joke, this Transformers fic by the peerless astolat that will leave you stunned the robot cars didn’t bone when they are so clearly in love. If you like that one you should read the Victory Condition, same fandom and author; someone correctly commented that its the next Great American Novel and only we on this site will ever know

2. One of my absolute favourite written works ever which I will never stop recommending is The Book of Secrets by Are; Downton Abbey, prickly gay evil butler with a heart of gold, vain handsome footman undergoing a deep crisis of identity. Are introduces psychological complexity and richness to the fairly bland Jimmy character, and as tumblr user maiden once remarked, making good fanfiction for bad tv shows IS the noblest of women’s works, this generation’s Bayeux tapestry. If you like that you should definitely read Hauntsverse (the Enchanted Life of Thomas Barrow has the kind of pacing & action & thematically + narratively satisfying conclusion in its last third that Christopher Nolan dreams of)

3. Also still really like this Rave footballer RPF fic of Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka where Ronaldo is a half-demon and Kaka is a priest. Love a good crisis of faith story. I do not follow football and have no dog in the RPF discourse war but Rave is just a lush brilliant humorous writer 

4. User Fahye literally held the real estate deeds to my ass for the longest time, they’re prolific and have done some excellent work in the Untamed and Yuri on Ice fandoms in particular, but two niche works that deserve to be mentioned: Single Use Weapon, a fealty fic set in a tiny modern day kingdom. Monarch is in love with the childhood friend turned mercenary who must protect his king. And then this enjolras / grantaire fic that I’ve probably outgrown since I don’t have the tolerance for prolonged angst anymore, but when I did, this was the one I kept returning to   

5. Syllic sent me down an entire Merlin/Arthur phase with Three Tasks (if you like this you should check out the rest of their works + astolat’s entire Merlin body of work, Crown of the Summer Court is widely regarded as one of the best fanworks ever ever ever)

6. Some anon very long ago recommended An Ever Fixed Mark, which is a soulmates AU of Pride and Prejudice. The author AMarguerite does some beautiful well-researched world-building here and completely transports you to the regency era, I learned all about the Ton. But importantly this series is juicy and funny and full of heart. It’s also choose your own adventure -- what if Lizzie had ended up with Colonel Fitzwilliam? Or the literal actual Duke of Wellington? Staunch supporters of Mr. Darcy may rest easy seeing as there is a 100K+ story dedicated to Darcy/Lizzie but there’s also two separate what-ifs; the one where Lizzie shacks up with the Duke of Wellington is, for my money, the best 

7. Passion & Profession starring Marcus Aquila of The Eagle (2011) and YES Jamie Bell EXCEPT as St John Rivers from Jane Eyre. Follows St John’s adventures after he sets for Calcutta -- and lives, because he has his big gay awakening with a buff handsome crippled soldier. Beautiful story, St John is a drama queen, really liked the portrayal of British Raj era West Bengal here. As I said, I love a good crisis of faith fic, and the conversation St John has with a cheerful gay reverend near the climax of the fic is one of the favourite back and forths on religion and gay love ever 

8. This fix-it Snowpiercer fic where Yona and Timmy survive and find an underground society....sci-fi levels of intricate and bold world-building  

9. Another fix-it because I’ve recently been obsessed with Avatar where Neytiri is the one chosen by the elder tree to become Toruk Makto and save her people; same author has written a 34K slow burn between Trudy and Grace that I’m dying to read 

10. Some original works that have recently been on my mind: 

For King & Country, I’m following Part 2 of this masterful series with bated breath; insecure mage hates his handsomer more charismatic more talented rival, unaware said rival has been in love with him for aaages. 

This weird short lovely thing where a thief rides across a desert nearly dies and is saved by the mute solar deity whose temple he is about to rob. Love an unexpected story that makes me re-read looking for clues and subtext and details I may have missed 

This horror fic about how a group of people on an online forum for analyzing a Tolkein-like children’s series meet up IRL to discuss the author’s alleged descent into madness and unlock the mystery behind his last seemingly nonsensical book. As you say I cannot believe people write this stuff for free

Hollycomb is a legend and my heart pangs with every re-read of this paranormal coming of age fic....wistful & lovely

before trek, i'd never really been in a fandom that had enough reach that i would continue to get some sort of interaction on my fics past the first week or so of posting. i've slowed down my output over the years, but primarily i've written for myself, and if no one else looked at it, then, whatever. i've written niche crossovers, gen character studies, fic for a film barely anyone saw, and when a kudos comes in years after the fact, that's delightful, of course it is, but it's been an extra.

so to have a transformative work of my fic has been such a journey. when @finalfrontierpublishing first reached out to me, they were very very polite about asking to bind the fic, and had some notes about what they wanted to do, and the timescale, and did i mind at all? mostly i wasn't sure they meant my fic. reading over their messages, i kept thinking, do they mean me? even though, to date, the fics i've written for trek have had the widest exposure and longest activity*, i was struggling to get my head around it, because even though i knew people had read it, fandom exists in this sprawling way that i had no concept that anyone close by to my tiny tumblr circle had any notion of it.

anyway, through talking to @sonictoaster i've been reading up on bookbinding and the process involved, and so, somewhat bashfully, i asked if @finalfrontierpublishing would document their process. this felt a little cheeky because what an honour to have someone not only transform your work, but to choose to do that because they wanted to gift it to someone. i'm still so touched when i think about it.

and @finalfrontierpublishing did such a beautiful job! i need to reblog the other post they made of the book because the typesetting choices in the interior are truly lovely. i'm obsessed with the chapter pages, and the half title. and look at the detailing on the cover! really beautiful work. i cannot overstate what an exciting and somewhat emotional experience this has been for me. thank you, nic, for indulging me with these additional photos, and for asking in the first place, and being generous with your talents <3

It slipped my mind that I kind of promised a making-of post - sorry @notabuddhist, who so kindly gave me permission to bind One of Many Great Fires for @pleasantboatpress!

I've tried to include as many making-of photos but sometimes i am just a shit photo taker so I am very sorry in advance.

Step 1: Stitch a text block and planning, Endband making

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good rounded book. I started rounding books from my third bind and haven't looked back.

I took a little while to get to this as it required colour printing and I don't have a colour printer at home. I finally got off my ass close to the end of Binderary and went to the printer I usually go to to print my coloured prints - luckily they didn't read my gay porn or ask me about it, though I've been getting increasingly pointed questions about what exactly i'm making.

glue round number 1 and trim with my guillotine, and then i take my trusty hammer to the spine to do some rounding.

So, okay, anyone who's read this fic knows it takes place on Vulcan. And i've seen enough imagery on star trek to know Vulcan is endless red sand and heat and oh boy, i feel hot just thinking about it.

I knew red would be a colour that fit thematically and I had recently found lovely marbled paper that really looked so much like the gas giant appearance of Jupiter but red. I then pulled out my trusty colibri cranberry bookcloth to do a couple of colour match checks- i love colibri and will never not recommend it.

Usually at this point, I do my endbands - and I did a simple two colour front bead endband because when i started this, that was all I knew how to do.

Step 2: Case making

I recently found out that what i usually do for books is called the square back bradel bind (though technically this is not square back), but you get my meaning.

Case is made, and then glued to bookcloth. Look at those crisp edges, yum yum. I'm generally a messy glue user, so you can see all the bits of paper stuck to the back of the half-done case, also with big F and Bs drawn on them because i never remember which side i want the front and back to be. The case looks pretty good with nary a glue stain. (I did a good job with glue management this time, phew)

Step 3: Decorative steps

My usual go-to is HTV because I'm not quite adept at other arty decorative methods like paint or usage of the foil quill. I decided to go with vulcan calligraphy on the back - with a river binding strip of marble paper in the middle. To make it look extra fancy, i made little silver HTV strips to border the river binding strip, though it warped a little from the heat because it was so ridiculously thin.

Step 4: Casing in

No photos of this because i'm usually hopping on one foot doing things on speedmode with PVA.

Shall pay tax with this photo - I love taking photos of my bookshelf and I really loved the burst of colour of the bookshelf after Binderary'23 was over.

I have made something like 21 case binds, but nearly 30 book binds (inclusive of coptic and stab) in total. that's a pretty decent number for someone who's only been binding for the last 9 months.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

whipplefilter: The two that consistently stand out to me (meaning they stood out when I first read Bleach 15 years ago and stand out now, having since returned to the fold) are Orihime in the Advance Team/Arrancar arc and Rukia re: Kaien. I’ll talk about Orihime since I mentioned that arc briefly in an earlier ask meme response!

I absolutely love Orihime struggling with her feelings of inadequacy settling back into her life after the Soul Society arc. The world’s just cracked itself open around her—and her brother is dead, she’s living alone, and it’s still her first year of high school—and in the middle of so much she is nothing. There’s so much she wants to do but it doesn’t seem like even the smallest thing—lifting Ichigo’s spirits—is within her grasp. And then there’s Rukia, who just seems so cool and in control and effortlessly herself (even if we the readers know that’s not true, not always—maybe not even often).

It’s just really poignant, and I think what makes it for me is how honest about her feelings Orihime is able to be with herself, even though at first she holds them away with others. She can see that she is sad, in pain, but more than that—jealous. Jealousy is inelegant, even ugly, but Orihime can see that in herself. And she feels bad about the way she feels, but she doesn’t immediately try to  force it away. She sees it. Then she goes to Hueco Mundo. N -  Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

whipplefilter: This is a purely selfish wishlist, not a prescription for what I think fandom rightfully *should* be doing or what everyone should agree with. (But also if anyone was wavering about whether or not to post the thing and the thing happens to fall into one of these categories... please post the thing! For me?? :3)

1. I really like posts where people talk about their writing in medias res like, what they’re working on or thinking about with whatever they’re writing at the moment. And tiny baby WIP snippets!

2. I would like to see more posts that cater to my very specific niche interests, HAHAHAHA. Like someone please tell me how you think the plumbing works in the Seireitei. And how many different ways does the plumbing work across different areas? What is the water source? I mean, I don’t want 30 posts about plumbing (uh, yes I do) but I would love more stupid, boring municipal stuff like that. Maybe even with diagrams! Who has library fines and what has everyone checked out? How limited is the Seireitei’s lending collection and how much of it is self-published poetry and memoir?

3. I would like to see Hitsugaya on my dash more often lol!!!

Bonus: Not about fandom per se, but the platform: I wish Tumblr had a function where you could opt in to having old posts from blogs you follow slid into your current dash, because I want to see stuff I missed years ago but if it doesn’t show up on my dash I’m probably never going to see it. ippoddity: Considering I was not active in Bleach fandom for *checks calendar* MANY YEARS, I feel like it's rather selfish of me to ask anything of fandom. The series ended a long time ago, and the fact that there's even still an active fandom for me to join, has me very happy. That being said, one can wish...

1. I’m gonna have to second what my co-blogger is saying because yes please, gimme all your Soul Society mundanities. How do things work in this place, and tell me in excruciating detail. How does the economy work there? If you don’t attend the Soul Reaper Academy, is there another school? How do souls from Rukongai learn to read/write so that they can take the test to get into the Soul Reaper Academy? We see officers filling out paperwork all the time, but where does it go, and who even looks at the reports? WHY DON’T THEY HAVE CAKE.

2. Maybe I’m just hanging out in the wrong parts of fandom, but I’d like to see more gen material. Gimme the Karakura kids just hanging out after school, attending after-school activities, and getting up to shenanigans. Show me what the characters get up to outside of the main plot. Basically, I just want to see all the omake material fleshed out.

3. Quite a bit of this already exists, but I love reading meta and head canons. Basically, just send them all my way and I will eat it right up!
