rewatching the dwsa wallies september 15, 2015 bootleg and this is the one bootleg where i find hanschens behavior in the classroom scene so interesting, so i wanted to talk about it!!

i’ve posted a hanschen character analysis before, and i’ve talked about how andy mientus in deaf west spring awakening seems to play him off as cocky, put together, and confident in his position in the world. regardless of this, i have always liked how andy let hanschen’s confident façade (used as almost a survival instinct) slip in certain situations, such as this scene!!

now, when the teacher herr sonnenstich faces the boys, hanschen stays collected and sits upright as to please the teacher and not get in trouble. at this show, when the teachers back is to the boys, you can see hanschen looking at melchior and slouching down slightly before remembering the teacher is there and sitting back upright.

he also begins to look in between melchior and the teacher, knowing the teacher would turn back around and catch melchior signing when he’s not supposed to. this serves almost as a warning, or that he’s almost hyper-aware of his surroundings. when the teacher hits melchior, he flinches, but tries not to let it show like the other boys did. despite this, you can tell he’s tense and scared and very wary around the teacher and authority figures in general. he ends up shaking his head when melchior finally gives in to agreeing with the teacher, which i’ve interpreted as him basically saying “wow melchior, all you had to do was agree with him and this wouldn’t have happen.” in classic hanschen style…

after all that’s known and the boys are supposed to be writing down the latin, he ignores moritz and melchior at first before showing his annoyance with them breaking the rules. he’s a rule follower, someone who works with what he has and makes sure he doesn’t disappoint.

that’s all! i really enjoy different interpretations of hanschen in this scene, i think there’s a lot to work with and a lot to show about his character here! love you hanschen….

It's World Puppetry Day!!

So as a little celebration I made this!! They're all getting ready for a group photo!!

jeremy-neil mutual dislike (or at least mistrust) makes even MORE sense after tgr because they are both liars. neil josten was a carefully constructed persona who slowly became real; jeremy knox was a real boy who crafted himself into a persona. neil has spent his life running and clings to the first home he finds; jeremy has spent his life trapped and is not allowed to stay in the place that feels like home to him. neil has always been ready to run; jeremy has always stayed. neil’s smiles come out sharp and dangerous, they are always honest and rarely purposeful, but when they are he knows the effect they have on people; jeremy’s smiles are often calculated, they are a bit too big to be believably sincere if you know him, and they are bright and shining and so tired. neil knew there was a price on his head if he resisted and refused to give in, jeremy is self-destructive because there is a weight on his shoulders. i think they recognize pieces of themselves in each other and immediately feel unable to trust that (especially when it comes to something they care about as much as jean’s healing).

Danny was in Gotham because if he wanted to be an astronaut when he's officially out of the coffin, he needed schooling damn it. he also needed that for the "being the future king and ancient of space" thing so he's tired and drinking "death wish" coffee(he loves the name and it has the amount on caffeine that should hopefully work on his half dead ass)

he did not expect to get kidnapped by a frazzled secretary and forced to do ceo work but he rolled with it. if he's forced to do paperwork might as well do it well.

Tim is confused and would be sure he's hallucinating if not the fact that half his work for today was in fact done.

to be fair to Tam they did look at least similar not identical but that with the exhaustion black slightly longer hair and blue eyes(the he had some green in them and they were surprisingly bright for someone looking half dead)
