Chapter 5: Breakfast

The appetizing scent of scrambled eggs and fried bacon wafted through the air, pleasantly tickling Zsasz's taste buds. The smell of breakfast automatically sent a signal from his brain to his body, causing his salivary glands to automatically start producing deposits of saliva. One of the many beneficial aspects of working for Roman was enjoying the amenities of his bourgeois lifestyle, including being served by Roman's personal chef. Although Victor got used to the high standard of living he had been on for some time already, he still sometimes caught himself being surprised by the comfort surrounding him. Roman, in his extravagance and spoiling rotten, couldn't even have a mere idea of how Victor perceived such simple things as an exquisite breakfast served under his nose. It was this part of life that some time ago he even didn’t think was possible to have. 

Victor was now sitting at the dining room table in Roman's apartment awaiting his meal. In front of him there was a porcelain cup filled with a black, slightly frothy on top, bitter liquid. He recognized by the smell that it was Arabica coffee, it was one of Roman's favorite kinds originating from Ethiopia. This information was of no use to him in any way, Victor had never been to Ethiopia and didn’t plan to go there, he wouldn't even be able to point Ethiopia out on a map, but for some reason he remembered it. Living with Roman had these side effects, that he accidentally learned such unnecessary facts. For example, that he shouldn’t match horizontal stripes with vertical. Was it useful? Hell no, but for some reason  it was important for Roman and always grimaced when Victor didn’t follow basic fashion rules, so he started to pay attention to it.

Roman sat to his left and was now browsing through his phone with an expression of mild annoyance on his face. Above his eyebrows there were a few single lines of wrinkles, which were about to be eliminated on next Botox appointment. Although it was still early, he was fully dressed. It was a rare view to see Roman not in his robe before noon, his boss wasn’t a morning person. Victor didn’t sleep much, a few hours usually were sufficient for him. It was really an exceptional situation for him to sleep through the whole night. If he was really tired, he sometimes took a short nap during the day if he felt like it. Roman on the other hand was precise about his sleeping routine. Living a life of a criminal/nightclub owner involved staying up till late night hours and Roman made up for this time by sleeping late. And god forbid waking him up in the morning, it had to be a real emergency to interrupt his beauty sleep. And Victor learnt to handle most of the not so urgent situations by himself.

The butler placed a plate full of steaming, appetizing-looking food in front of Roman and shiny silver cutlery next to it. Roman didn't take his eyes off the phone screen even for a moment. Holding a fancy cup of coffee with his hand frozen in the air, his focus was entirely on his phone. A similar plate was placed next in front of Victor. Having the habit still from the old days to eat when food is still hot, Victor immediately took a fork in his hand and popped a large piece of scrambled eggs into his mouth. It was tender and perfectly toasted. Having chewed the first bites, he spoke up.

"I caught this officer snooping around the club last night."

Roman, still not taking his eyes off his phone screen and still uninterested in breakfast, took a sip of his espresso.  

"What officer?" his tone was indifferent.

"This blond chick from the trial. From that case two weeks ago at the docks."

Victor reached for the slices of bacon lying evenly stacked on the side of his plate and bit off half. Crunchy and delicious. 

"Inside the club?"

"No, in the back alley. I went out for a cigarette when we finished with that dealer."

Roman finally moved his eyes on him, clearly his attention was caught. He leaned back in his chair forgetting about the phone, and the wrinkle between his eyebrows deepened. He took a sip of coffee from his cup. Sparks of anger flashed in his eyes. 

"Yesterday? What was she looking for?"

"Don't know."

"How the fuck did she know about the dealer?”

“Don’t know if she knew.”

“What was she doing? What did she say?”

Victor shrugged his shoulders and answered without interrupting his food.  

"Not much. We didn’t talk for long."

Roman pulled his mouth down into a straight line, anger in his voice was present when he replied. 

“So you talked to her and didn’t ask what she was doing there? Are you stupid or what? What did you talk to her about, the weather?”

“I think she might have gotten lost, to be honest. And then got scared. Her partner found her.”

“Of course she got scared, every fucking human would got scared of that scarry face, if they saw it in the dark. But it’s not a coincidence that fucking GCPD is behind my club when I'm dealing with that piece of shit.”

Victor smirked, appreciating the comment.

Even when Roman was pissed, what happened very often, when it came to business, Roman was always able to keep the logical view of the sitation. He was losing his temper, but he didn't make decisions on the spur of the moment. His empire always came first and Victor always admired him for it.

"Find out what she and Gordon know. The last thing I need now is a fucking GCPD on my back. Talk to her your way ." Roman ordered in his cold, professional tone, accentuating the last two words.

Victor smiled broader, but unfortunately his enthusiasm immediately got cooled down.

"But don't overdo it. She needs to be alive. A dead cop right now would bring too much attention and Gordon is just waiting for my mistake. That whole arrest was a fucking demonstration, he knew from the beginning he wouldn't win it. He just wanted to throw me off balance.”

"And what about the rat?" Victor asked impatiently, changing the topic. 

The exciting vision of relieving his dark lusts had already begun to unfold in his mind and the sudden hold back made him frustrated. He didn’t want to stop before he could even start. 

"We need to make an example. I already have a plan for it, but we need to do it quietly."

Seeing the dissatisfied expression on Victor's face, Roman smirked.

"Relax, you'll have your fun. But later."

Considering the conversation done, Roman took an interest in his breakfast. Victor also returned to his scrambled eggs, letting his imagination carry him off into the pleasant, dark recesses of his mind.

“Evenin’ Ladies,” greeted Dean two College girls, when they entered the bar. But they only took one look at him, before choosing to ignore his advances. Nonetheless his gaze was still lingering on them, when they met their friends at the bar.

Cas only rolled his eyes and took another sip of his Whiskey. “Did it ever occur to you, that your behavior is creepy?”

“Hm? Did you say something?” Deans focus only now getting back to reality. But there was a glimmer of youth in his eyes that sparkled on the face which had to endure so much.

Castiel sighed “Never mind.”

Deans look was still roaming the bar, but there was no real intent behind his looks. It was just the nostalgia of light-hearted days long gone.

“Do you realize that you never were the ladies man you thought yourself to be?” Castiel asked after a while.

“What do you mean?” Now Dean was looking at him, the sparkling green eyes all his.

“Well … You always made your cheap moves, never expecting that it actually works. You always looked so surprised when they in fact said yes,” Cas pointed out.

“I just honor women and feel graced when the attraction is mutual,” Dean argued, not taking his look away from Cas once.

“I know you do, but … would a true ladies man see it that way?”

“Depends on how you define ladies man, doesn’t it?”

Castiel smiled “True. Point well taken. But you made such dorky remarks, when a woman was flirting with you. Between the honor and the disbelief, there always was a spark of panic. And you have to admit that you never were quick-witted, with either men or woman.”

Dean furrowed his brows, watching him intently over the rim of his Whiskey glass. “I’m … You know …? I’m … I’m guessing you are right” He finally gave in. “But you yourself were always terrible with … well people.”

“That was never a secret. But this isn’t about me …”

“But I think it very much is,” Dean objected, starting a smirk as he was onto Cas. “I think you are jealous, because I looked at those poor college girls instead of my beautiful husband all evening.”

“Well, you did. But you know I don’t mind the looking …”

Dean was reaching out to take Cas’ hand. “I know you don’t and that’s one of the many reasons why I love you. But you deserve to be looked at too, because you look hella sexy tonight. Has anyone told you that already?”

“Actually, there were a couple of guys at the bar who offered me a blowjob earlier.”

Deans grip grew tighter. “That’s because you deserve one … Now tell me who these guys were so we can have a nice little talk outside.”

Castiel laughed. “Calm down. I was joking.”

Ngl, I usually get disinterested in romantic fanfics/fancomics/etc... after the two main characters get together because to me the fun is all the shenanigans that come before that point... Ask-spiderpool is one of the only exceptions I've found because everything after is still so interesting !! The drama ! The miscommunications ! These boys still have a long way to go and the plot is still alive and well and I am here for it <3 You just make them so interesting. They have so many issues. I love them
