tldr: they’re all different genre’s of munch hence why i cant properly rank them. but i think it took me typing this out to conclude that jason might take the cake as #1 munch. i say we make them line up and take turns on you to get the right answer but that’s a bit much

I did a whole bunch of drawings for Jason's team two weeks back, so now its time to concentrate on Steph's team! Here we've got 4 new characters for her team, with a couple extra tomorrow as well. Lets go into to them, one by one.

First up is the lantern for the group, more specifically a Violet Lantern apprentice aka Miri Riam! Her reasons for coming to earth is unknown at the moment but they seem to have some connection to Carol Ferris. Carol's also a Violet Lantern and Hal's(Green Lantern) on-and-off girlfriend and occasional antagonist. Perhaps Miri was sent to become Carol's apprentice? I've got more info on whats happening there, but thats for later.

As for why Miri was chosen for the group, I knew I wanted some kind of Lantern for the team, but couldn't find a green lantern that was both in Steph's age group and have fun interactions with them. But then I thought, does it have to be a green lantern? I had a red lantern for Jason's group after all. I looked around and found Miri! I don't know her exact age but I knew she was a young adult, so I'm just gonna have her be around Steph's age group.

The Violet Lanterns Corps are very ...enthusiastic about the power of love and Miri's no exception. She wants everyone to know the joy of Love, she's honestly kinda annoying about it. I remember this one GL issue where she was destroying a city just to get Kyle and Soranik to resolve their love troubles. That pretty much became the basis for how I'm writing Miri's personality. Like I said above, I'll get more into Miri at a later time.

Next is Maxine Hunkel aka Cyclone, granddaughter of Ma Hunkel aka the golden age Red Tornado! I already posted a drawing of her a while back, I thought she'd make a fun fit for the team. She's has such high energy and so much enthusiasm I couldn't help but find her utterly endearing. I think at a later point she'll end up joining the JSA but for now she's just having fun with this team.

Btw I thought that maybe her grandmother, Ma Hunkel, could fit a similar role that the other Red Tornado did for Young Justice, helping out a young hero team. Just a way to emphasize how Steph and Tim's teams can serve as foils to each other.

Next up is the archer of the group, Mia Dearden aka Speedy II. Tho she should probably have a different name due to Roy still being Speedy atm. Maybe Speedette? Ehhh, gotta workshop that.

Anyways here's Mia and Steph meeting as civilians, with Mia showing off her bow. Mia seems to be in some sort of school uniform, perhaps Oliver is sponsoring her to go to a fancy academy? Her backstory is similar to canon, with Oliver saving her from bad people. I'm not sure if her story should be exactly the same as canon, since Mia is 10 but terrible things like that do happen in real life to young children. But I don't know if a goofy au like mine is the best place to show that. But for now lets just say Mia is currently trying to heal and become a hero like Green Arrow.

I imagine Steph and Mia get along really well, they just get each other in a lot of ways. Steph can see Mia might be hurting inside and wants to cheer her up, hopefully with all of Mia's new friends she can.

Last up is Jaime Reyes aka Blue Beetle III. Unfortunately I haven't drawn him all that much so no individual drawing for him, tho I do like him.

As for why Jaime, I remember liking him in the YJ cartoon and found him pretty likeable in the comics as well. But I've always like the spiderman hero archetype anyways, which Jaime fits really well (I mean, it was done on purpose). Static and Sideways also fit the archetype and are in the team as well. Arguably you can say add Steph to this too, probably more than Tim in my personal opinion.

Another reason I wanted to add Jaime is that he and Steph almost became teammates in canon, in a failed Young Justice project. What could have been huh. Third reason is more silly tho, if Barbara and Ted Kord start to date in this au, imagine how grossed out Steph and Jaime will be lmao.

So there's four new teammates for the team, but! I've got a couple extra for tomorrow! And later on I hope to finally post some more doodles of these characters (some of them are real old, more than a year old). Especially Miri, she turned out to be such a fun character, and I've always liked the all the lantern corps. Here's a bonus doodle of them btw (with bonus unmasked Sideways):

The View From Jade by lowflyingfruit: multi-chapter fic in jason's pov where he travels back in time to before dick was robin. excellent characterizations and grappling with the meaning of robin- both to dick and to jason.

SYNCHRONICITY. by orpheusaki: multi-chapter fic where robin!dick and nightwing!dick swap places. an excellent character study of both dick and bruce. there's grief and comfort and it's all so wonderful.

Overcoming Our Antecedents by Batbirdies: i read this one a while back but i remember enjoying it. not rlly time travel but multi-chapter fic where jason gets de-aged to a time before his death. cue the subsequent angst from bruce and dick.

Hereditary by nighhtwing (divineauthor): pretty sure i've recommended this one before too but i just have so much love for this in my heart. one-shot where bruce travels back to a time when his parents were still alive. amazing characterization for bruce and just rlly good consideration of what his kids and pseudo-family members mean to him <3

Breath Of Life by commanderquill: damian and dick getting sent back to a time before the graysons fall. it's been a while since i've read this but i remember feeling equal parts horror and awe by it. wonderfully complex and the writing rlly hooks you in.

In This or Any Other Universe by wildsofmarch: nightwing!dick accidentally travels to robert pattinson's world. a real delight to read with very witty dialogue and a hyper-competent dick grayson.

the grief wheel by dustorange: it's not a real fic list without one of malilah's fics. alfred trapped in a time loop when the waynes get shot. a great portrayal of a young bruce and the collective tragedy of the waynes <3

cast on/cast off by hellsreluctantheir: one shot with dick and jason trapped in a time loop! the banter, the chemistry, the energy- all great, all extremely engaging to read.

Today? Yesterday? by dickgraysonwayne (TheMightiestPen): one shot where dick is trapped in a time loop. dick and tim centric so you already know i enjoyed this one immensely. whacky comic shenanigans and a beautiful insight into the love and faith they have for and in each other

love watching you go by butch_chastity: dickroy!!!! one shot where roy is stuck in a time loop in the outsiders era. i love them so much aaaah i just love this one so much. i re-read it every few weeks <3

One Thousand, Three Hundred and Nine Hours by TheSilencer: all the bats sans dick get stuck in a groundhog day type of situation. it's a pretty good read even if i don't agree with some of the character dynamics. a bit darker in tone/themes tho so just a warning if you're not into that

The interactions between Damian and everyone are chef’s kiss. He’s difficult because he’s a kid but he’s not a kid and he deeply respects his father and Robin but at the same time he’s really angry at everything that brought him here. My little guy <3 he’s also effortlessly funny and I love him for that. Also love love love how much you write Bruce’s pov as hesitant bc all he sees is Talia’s child.

Roy :( I love me some Dick and Roy interactions (& Jason, ik people don’t like RHATO but I feel like a Jason-Roy friendship would be fun!). Donna masterminding them being w each other bc they both need it is also very funny and very on point. Fab five ilysmmmmm

Jason’s anger at Dani’s dad and how he went about it… I’m sure this will have no consequences ^_^ just so well written tho, Jason’s anger at Dani’s dad feels sm like his anger at what’s his name did you push did he fall guy from comics. Blind red rage. As opposed to UTRH Jason who’s definitely more calculating and cold in his fury.

I’m also so interested by that kid in the sewers? I think I might know who he is but I don’t want to embarrass myself so I won’t say anything 😭 bc he might just be some kid or an oc lolll

Steph and Jason’s friendship is so dear to me. The way you’re writing their anger and them fighting but they still quite clearly care deeply about each other, the Halloween party (w song), Steph trying to let Jason be his own person — it’s so good because it feels so real. Also you’re letting both characters breathe into being their own people. Really good stuff.

Making playlists is my passion maybe actually, lol. I am the Road Trip Music Conductor in my friend group, and I always need something that fits the Vibe. I don’t play around about my playlists, I can’t lie. (Dream job maybe used to be making those Spotify official playlists because I learned that was a real job when I was in high school, and let me tell you!! I am lowkey sad it did not happen).

My playlists at this point are also kind of a scrapbook of all the interests I’ve had (though I have like 100+ more that are private/incomplete from other fandoms) and I kind of love you sending this because it’s like a trail of all the things I’ve loved 😅.

this is not articulated well whatsoever. im just getting this down because i can't stop thinking about it.

ted was ALWAYS going to go back to henry. the whole reason he left was to work on himself FOR HENRY. he felt so so abandoned by his father, of course he was going to go back to henry so he wouldn't feel that way. 

and of course he's not going to end up w michelle. nowhere is it implied that they get back together and ted has had so much growth that there is no way he's going to do that to himself.

he's not erasing himself from anything. of course he's going to say "it wasn't ever about me" bc it never was (to him at least). i wish he would give himself more credit and yes he's the reason so much changed and he's made everything better. but it wasn't JUST him. he got the ball rolling but everyone worked on themselves. however i do think the lasso way would've been a better title.

sam achieving his dream is so so important. and roy becoming head coach isn't a bad thing. it's what was going to happen. HE LEFT. of course there's going to be a new head coach??

jamie reuniting with his dad was really weird tho. i didn't love that whatsoever. and jane and beard getting married. 

the royjamiekeeley stuff was also weird. i choose to believe that the whole reason they got into the argument abt keeley was bc they were reverting to their toxic ways and trying to bury the touchy feeley emotions. i didn't like it but it did give us good stuff. 

roy FINALLY realizing he needs to work on himself. and keeley making it clear she doesn't need either of them. it's allowing both the boys to grow and become more mature and maybe in the future the polycule will happen. but they need to grow first. keeley doesn't need either of them, she never has. and they're both realizing they're idiots and she doesn't need them. progress isn't linear. they're both going to fuck up. but they realized they did. it's called growth.

that being said, i still didn't love it. jamie bringing up the video hurt me. what was that for?? 

and i do think it's a very real possibility that the final montage was ted's dream. but the montage isn't a bad ending for anyone by any means?? (except for beard). hell they left the polycule kind of ambiguous but to the point where it could be very real.

omg. I'll keep that in mind if I decide I wanna do some real digging on canon - I'll be honest, comics turn me away with their particular flavor of "these are all connected except not really". Each one is so different and it gets confusing to keep up with, and everyone has opinions on which comic line is the truest to a character, depending on how they themselves view said character. I can get the appeal of the variety (I mean, it's really not THAT different from the fanfic hopping I've been doing), but for some reason it just isn't my cup of tea rn. Maybe in the future tho!

Also I'll read some Roy fics. I'll be honest tho, I fuckin love Tim Drake. So it may be a while before I'm able to tear myself away from the jaytim fics, lol

Batfam and what adult cartoons I they would watch-

Dick- def related to Moral Oral. A little boy with a verbaly abusive father???? a family falling apart???? Unpacking trauma and kids living up to, and past their parents?? a whole town of people with their own problems acting like they're perfect and never do anything wrong?? Dick probably ate that shit up! He probably thought everyone related to it so heavily until Donna tricked him into talking about his problems out loud and he realized he was in fact not normal.

Jason- Tuca and Bertie, it's a more real and mostly feel good show, with a underling feminist meaning. He probably really likes Tuca thinking she's really cool and a outstanding character with great development. He definitely made Roy watch it before patrols. Roy probably cares less about the show and cares more about watching something with Jason. (Roy probably likes Aqua team hunger force and Southpark mans is a hillbilly in and out) Jay def quotes the show almost religiously.

Tim- probably loves Family Guy, he's the kinda guy to explain every joke and act as if it's modern day art and noone knows if he's being ironic or not. His fav character is Meg. When he gets mad at Kon (or just to fuck with him) he explains episodes of the show in morbid detail and Kon probably crys. He tried doing it with Cassie and instead of cowering like Kon she started explaining how the show was modern philosophy, and in that moment he had to rethink if he was in love with another one of his best friends.

Stephanie- She likes Southpark but she only likes it for the characters, her favorites gags being the ones in earlier seasons where the kids misunderstand things cuz yk there kids. Her favorites usually be Wendy or Butters. She thinks it's really good satire 75% of the time but her favorite episodes are probably more character driven ones, or any with Butters as a lead.

Cass- Happy Tree Friends, she didn't know much English when she came to the manor so slap stick humor with cute little animals, she loved it!! Everyone else thought it would have a negative effect on her, but she thought it was just cute and wholesome because the characters never stayed dead and always came back. And that feeling of missing object permanence, and actions always being undone and going back to the status quo made her feel better. She now knows it's really dark and very controversial, but the layout of every episode being almost the same makes her feel in control and she still goes back and rewatches her favorite episodes after a bad day. Also she enjoys the looks she gets when she states it as her favorite show.

Damian- thinks that all the shows above are very stupid and childish and he will only watches animes, thought I would imagine most of them do get pretty dark. He never lets anyone know this ofc, only Dick and maybe Steph knew the truth. He talks a big game about hating animated content but it's all bs. He watches Rom with Steph, and the heavy gore shit with Dick (tho in all honesty he wishes Dami would find something else to watch, he just goes along with it to hang out with the kid.) Damian probably also watched like terribly bad animes with Stephanie.

Bruce- BoJack Horsemen is a story about a middle aged man who knows he needs to change but never dose, He had a tragic backstory and continues hurting everyone around him, Being stuck in a self cycle of hurting himself and loved ones. Bruce probably sobbed multiple times while watching the show. And probably called Dick like nine times telling dick how great it was. (Probably taking awhile to see why Dick suggested it to him.) Eventually I imagine the show helps him realize he needs a more healthy relationship with himself and the people around him. Probably quoting the show for helping him realize his self toxic traits.

Take this as me venting because no one hurts my baby girl and lives to tell the story. So, yeah, as usual Jason's feelings and needs are left aside for a very emotionally unstable Bruce, and I'm so tired of this shit, tired of Bruce being a childish immature father (because yes, HE'S his father no matter how their current relationship is) and Jason being the violent, mean and uncaring Robin/Redhood.

I'm probably super biased, because I love Jason with all my heart but I don't care, seeing him cry, being beaten, neglected, treated with zero empathy even for his friends... Is so tiring. This boy is not an angel (even tho he looks like one uwu) he killed and became a crime lord, I understand and accept Jason made mistakes as Robin (come on, he was a baby) and as Redhood, well yeah, more and bigger mistakes but why he can't receive a little empathy? He's always trying and trying and trying and handling his emotions alone, handling his trauma alone, handling his fears alone and yeah, he has friends, Roy, Bizarro, Artemis... Even Kori at a certain level, but to me (and yeah, I've read almost every comic with the Redhood tag) it's more like Jason giving and receiving so so little.

Probably the deepest relationship he has is with Roy, I truly enjoyed their interactions, the words they shared and how they tried their best to support eachother (I'm not shipping them) but still, Jay is constantly bombarded by this feeling of not being enough, which make him extremely risky and impulsive, is his life in danger? Bah, well, who cares? He died once and was better dead anyways... (His words btw) sometimes it makes me think some writers and fans can't see Jason outside this edgy and angry man who wants revenge and violence, that's Jason, an anti-hero with a bad attitude, no patience, uncaring and even stupid. Don't misunderstand, I like drama, but good well written drama, not the same toxic circle once and again and again.

I can't imagine how living with a PTSD is when you're in a harmful environment that won't let you heal. And yeah, yeah, I know he's not real but I can't stop and not being moved because I had been there before (of course in a "common" context) and I'm a mental health enthusiast, so this scenarios are hard to swallow even if they're fictional. I'm just asking for more sympathy for him, he's a good boy, with mistakes or not, he has always been a very good boy who didn't have to suffer so much and who doesn't have to keep suffering so much.

I'm tired, I'm tired. That's why the Wayne's adventures comic is like heaven...if you read my ramblings thank you! I just had to vent a little.

It's a tradition of mine to post my end-of-the-year music list. I used to get music questions + recommendations all the time. This goes back to the days of the Hypster Music Player we used to have on our pages (remember those lol) before the DMCA roll out.

As a heads up, I'm a violinist with a BFA in Music and Audio Production. I'm a timbre listener first 🤷🏽‍♀️. No surprise there. Some people listen to music for the lyrics first, melody first, a catchy hook first, etc. I'm a tone color and texture person as it relates to vocality, instrumentation, and the arrangement/combination of frequencies altogether. (For more on that and how you can confirm/discover what kind of listener you are, this book, which I reviewed, is a go-to.)

so if u dont know hal jordan back in the 90s broke down after his city was destroyed by doomsday and he lost many loved ones. as a result he went full on villain (parallax) and ended up destroying most of the green lantern corps and caused the zero hour event

he then was killed and later came back as the hero spectre, basically being a ghost hero and trying to atone for his actions he did in the lowest point of his life

anyways later on geoff johns got the reins and revived Hal and said it wasn't hal's fult at all, he was just possessed by an evil space bug made of fear, the real Parallax.

aaaand i hate that. I hate taking away Hals role in everything and making him a victim. I dont mind the other retcons Geoff Johns did to GL lore--hell i prefer it because he really fleshed things out and added the other colours and explained the weakness to yellow even!--but I think it all could have been done without stripping Hal of any wrong doings or guilt. Its rly lame.

He had his momentts of violence, yes but his anger had a trigger; he wasnt angry all the time, he was a sweet and intelligent kid who loved Bruce a lot and had a rocky relationship with Dick at first but they did eventually get along. He had a few friends, knew the titans, and was well liked by his family.

too many stories stress his violence and impulsiveness and make him out to be a bad person with at least trying to explore why he is that way and sympathsize with him.

not only that but the treating of his death as inevitable or his fault or anything like that frustrates me so fucking much bc the weight of death in the family, of its aftermath and a lonely place of dying, of under the red hood, really hinges on the fact that jasons death was a tragedy, one that shook Bruce like no other. because he lost his child who he loved!!!!!

hey babe! so i’m imagining either one of two scenarios:

jason forces dick into a party city version of his costume with the weird, itchy material that’s tight in all the wrong places and loose in all the wrong places and generally looks like an ugly oversized onsie, yet dick somehow still manages to pull it off. dick forces jason into cargo pants, platform boots, a shirt that says “real rednecks shoot cops,” a red baseball hat, and an old leather jacket. he’s got holsters everywhere, but the guns are the plastic kind that are painted neon green and bright orange and stuff. he’s visibly annoyed but interally laughing bc he looks like some weird mixture between indiana jones, han solo, and roy and he loves it.

they both buy adult versions of the robin suit they used to wear. jason wears one of those weird pullovers that seems either a size too big or a size too small, spends the entire night shifting uncomfortably, and uses the cape as a prop for shakespeare reenactments. and jason,,,,,,really should have seen this coming so he’s not all that surprised when dick shows up wearing a “sexy robin” suit just to see the constipated look of horror and regret on bruce’s face. he’s not even that surprised when dick doesn’t have any trouble with the costume at all. he’s a little surprised when dick decides to keep it, though, then immediately resolves to get the hell outta dodge and to never ask.

both are absolutely hilarious scenarios to imagine tho.
