Once again thinking about(watching) tiny heist - the moment in ep 5 when Ti sets the flame thrower off and Brennan is about to move on, but Justin stops him with a "hey!" And there's silence at the table for a second before he leans forward and says "That didn't set off the bomb?" AND BRENNAN. JUST STARES AT THE CAMERA. AND GRINS.

ok anyway now i’m going to watch THE ITALIAN JOB (2003) which i have seen before and may even have on dvd. from the time when you would just go into a blockbuster and buy a million dvds that even looked vaguely recognizable bc they were all on sale because blockbuster was going out of business. do you guys remember that. anyway i think ive only seen this once and it was at least ten years ago. i’m not looking forward to watching mark wahlberg do anything but its funny that mos def is in this too. unintentional mos def marathon

i would love to share my watchlist for heist week!! all are films before 1970, because i wanted to watch heists new to me, but i'll also include some modern heist movies i love at the bottom!

The Asphalt Jungle (1950) — the granddaddy of the heist genre. it's really good! and it has every aspect of the heist (the planning, the execution, and the fallout), which i love.

The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) — so goofy and fun. features fantastic Alec Guinness performance and some great screwball elements (one of the final sequences reminded me a lot of the climax of What's Up, Doc.)

Ocean's Eleven (1960) — eh. I felt the problems were threefold: 1) took forever just to get to the heist, 2) all the guys looked the same and most did not have a defining role in the heist, and 3) Hay's Code ending. It's not terrible, but not worth watching when there is a far superior remake.

The League of Gentlemen (1960) — i can often be found on letterboxd bemoaning the fact there is probably an alternate universe where monty python made a heist movie and we're not in that universe. but! this film is definitely the closest we're gonna get. similar to the lavender hill mob in that they're both very british and very, very funny. really loved the level of shenanigans going here.

Gambit (1966) — my favorite of the week! it's a smaller heist (three person crew), but the film really plays with the idea of expectation vs. actual execution, and the assumptions white british guys make about, among other things, everyone who is not also a white british guy. bonus: shirley maclaine and michael caine have incredible chemistry. a great watch! highly recommend!

The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) — love when hot people commit crimes and other hot people try to stop them. the pacing here is a bit wonky, but it has a slick, sexy opening sequence and i'll never say no to a cat and mouse game. the heisting is definitely secondary though, just so you know that going in.

there’s a theory around that peter b stalled miles on purpose to help miguel capture him, which i find kind of funny despite being antithetical to their entire relationship and also not making much sense, because it generously ascribes three things to peter: 1. active maliciousness, 2. the ability to act, and 3. the ability to plan ahead, all traits we have two movies’ worth of proof that peter categorically does not possess

thinking about cognac and whiskey. imagine being stabbed in the eye by this guy who has a crush on you and then having to practice sewing his chest back together for like several hundred years straight... such a complex dynamic. what even are they. why was "get married and have limbo children" even a possible outcome for them.

me too tbh 😭 i want an hbo series! or a baz luhrmann movie asjkashg i just wanna see timothee chalamet be an art heist mastermind (which is one of the reasons why i wrote the fic lmaoo) but it would be cool if someone else got with the vision!!

I’m already 27 chapters in and it’s sooo good!! I love when characters get conversational with the readers. Is it weird that I find it relaxing to read despite the intense situation? I think it’s probably the writing style. I love Nora. I can’t wait to read more!
