Only adjacent to the meat of what's being asked after, but as a kid my parents would give me the paper map and let me plan our route through the zoo. Gave me a job I enjoyed so I wouldn't become a menace, giving my parents 2 less things to worry about: they could just follow me and mind my sister. I haven't been to a zoo in ages, but I'd honestly be pretty disappointed if I couldn't do the same thing still. There's something incredibly satisfying having a physically mapped route to follow.
I wouldn't pay captive audience prices, but if it's like 2 bucks to subsidise printing and recycling, and the cost is advertised in that way, I'd probably pay it. Better yet would be to have a system of reusable maps, though maybe on request if zoos are worried about people who don't care forgetting to return them and having to print more.
I’ve got some accessibility questions around zoo maps! Specifically, I’m interested in how people are impacted by the lack of paper maps / digitization of maps, especially when the ones in other languages than English are only online.
Please chime in in the replies and tell me about accessibility impacts you’ve experienced (or know someone who has experience) with:
No paper map policies
Online-only maps
QR codes to access maps
Maps available in an app only
Policies that instruct visitors to print their own maps ahead of time at home
Being told to photograph big signs with maps on them throughout the zoo in lieu of using an online map
Non-English maps being available online only
Policies that guests should use an app / Google translate to access map information / signage
I’ve got my own thoughts, but I know my perspective is limited to my personal experience. If these policies impact you in any way - not just due to disability - please tell me how. TIA!

rewatching tgp rn so i am obligated to inflict on you a harryanthe tgp au featuring tall hot condescending socialite forever maligned in comparison to her sister ianthe and intense nun of an ascetic faith who took a vow of silence harrowhark. bonus points ianthe supposedly having gotten into the "good place" by virtue of getting her records mixed in w her sister's and having to call herself coronabeth the whole damn time. surface level tahani/jason deeper level eleanor (here by mistake)/chidi (genuinely led a seemingly heaven-bound life and now stuck with a human flaming oil slick)

While i work I've been listening to an LP of the Telltale Walking Dead Games (the ones with clementine, I do not care about the others lmao). Ages ago when I played these I was well aware/amused that part of season 2 takes place in Parker's Crossroads/Parker's Run because I grew up right next to it and the detail stood out to me. But I never caught the line of "We'll head to parker's run. It's just up the road from here" until just right now. So I had a sort of "wait, where the fuck are they supposed to be right now?" (search)

ARE YOU SHITTING ME LMAO So by process of elimination, since it's the only city with anything even remotely resembling a large home supply store, that would mean they're in my literal hometown. My tiny hometown in the middle of nowhere that's never in anything that barely anyone knows of. How in the fuck lmao

I know I already talked about this a few years ago but can we again talk about the dumbass map and what it implies about Waidwen's war plans?
I mean what is going on here???
Tumblr media
So there's no way in hell that Saint's Rest isn't named for him, so he came through here, on his way to the border. Alright, so far so good. Then he decides to march south to cross a whole ass mountain range instead of just taking the normal road, which is weird, but alright, maybe that pass there at Ondra's boot was well protected and he decided it would take less fighting to get through Cold Morn, which he was right about, so I am willing to accept that. Then he got to Mercy Vale, which is also fine, that is how the road goes. A bit strange considering that his end goal was Twin Elms but whatever, fine, maybe he wanted to take over Fleetbreaker Castle to break resistence. And then... he marched back up north?? To Readceras??? Why the hell is the Godhammer Citadel so far north?? The fuck was he doing there?? Even considering Eothas already knew about the bomb and had for some reason decided this was a good idea (Eothas is unfortunately not known for his great planning or scheming skills), the Readceran army had no reason at all to go there. None. Zilch. Why did the Dyrwood think they could make him? "The fields, maybe they reminded him of his past as a farmer" look Durance, I know you're stupid but even you should be able to tell there's something up there. Also what fields, there's a giant saltwater bay right next to it, what were's you farming there, glasswort?? And while we're at it, what the fuck is Evon Dewr Bridge actually bridging?? It's clearly not the bay, it's much to tiny for that, there's no river anywhere, so why the hell is there a fancy ass bridge???
So, in order to deal with these descrepancies, I propose two things:
#1: This map is in fact diagetic, and was constructed by the in-universe equivalent of Herodot, some guy (likely Aedyran lets be real) who's writing entertainment textbooks for a living and has actually been in the Eastern Reach. He's just kinda heard things and then started drawing in landmarks where he thought they'd look nice. He also has not heard about the Bridge Part of the Godhammer, just the Citadel, explaining why it's just marked as Godhammer Citadel, and he decided to put at the admittdely most logical point of entry into the Dyrwood from Readceras, assuming that's what that was about.
#2: The actual Godhammer Bridge is somewhere southwest of Mercy Vale, crossing the river there, meaning there is a point for a bridge and a reason for Waidwen to want to cross it. Considering timeline issues we'll just assume the river placement is also off, as well as the exact locations of Cold Morn and Mercy Vale.
Thank you for coming to my increasingly unhinged ted talk about a game I love but whose maps I hate (and love).

Any tropical islands on theia??
Yes!! There's many across Theia, and maybe one day I'll have a full world map to elaborate on, but for now I can tell you about the ones localized around Stolla.
Also I hope you're ready for lore beyond their climates heehee.
Tumblr media
There's a lot of islands littered around Stolla but the ones with tropical-like climates hang out on the south-eastern half of Stolla, which harbors the warmest and most humid climate out of the 5 vertices of the continent.
Tumblr media
This cluster of eyots by the mouth of the Splitriver are the truest of tropical islands within Stolla. A couple are accessible via a local port, which mainly host small, low-denisty villages. Many of these eyots however are nautically inaccessible due to sheer cliff faces, or are too thick with growth & inhospitable to most humanoids of the region.
During cooler times of the year these islands are nearly always shrouded in a dense and humid fog kept in place by the cooler ocean waters below.
The sands surrounding the lower and more accessible islands are a glittery cyan color, a noteable feature almost exclusively seen along the coasts of the Irrandiant Gulf, so they're quite the spectacle for western & mid Stolla inhabitants!
Tumblr media
Speaking of the Irradiant Gulf, all other tropical like islands sit in this gulf's surrounding waters. These very large islands are more sub-tropic, a little further away from the equator. They are still just as humid, and despite how I lazily colored in the vegetation on this map, much of the jungle within these islands actually glow and glitter vibrantly in a range of cool colors from sea-green to indigo.
The two largest islands are populated heavily along their coasts, but very few people live far inland. The largest of the islands exports many unique and unusual magical goods and ingredients to the rest of Stolla.
Tumblr media
And finally these two small islands in the outer center of the gulf have a somewhat sub-tropical climate, but are notably less rainy and have colder winters. Any island more northern than these in this area begins to reach more temperate climates.
These islands are home to chiefdoms of Payans and Garbeators that reject trade and much contact with the rest of Stolla. Though nobody knows how they exist, these islands happen to be right on top of an ancient meteor impact site, the same one that created the gulf, and caused the great flooding of it's surrounding provinces. Also the one that brought all that glittery magic to the world in the first place ^_^.
The islands sport several sheer rock formations of varying heights laced with colorful crystals that influence the growth and behaviors of all life within their surrounding area. Many living things from these islands beyond Payans and Garbeators have more than two eyes, for reasons yet to be understood.
~☆~☆~☆~
As I mentioned previously, there are many more tropical and sub-tropical islands in the world of Theia, these are just the more relevant ones to the story-focused part of the world.

getting to see the panel with David Tennant amd Catherine Tate was so incredibly amazing. Can't express in words how much being able to see it meant to me. Getting to hear David talking about how as a kid he was just as a big of a nerd as we are and now he can be the person who is able to make people tear up getting to see him (me) the same way he teared up meeting Tom Baker.
Also him talking about his feet for a good 5+ minutes and that pears give him the shits. Also that part. I suppose.
