The shock and awe that some fans felt when they saw Louis flirt up a storm in the new clip is further proof of how quickly a certain fanon interpretation of characters can become mistaken for canon.

Show Louis has always been flirty. He's always been Mr. I'm sexy and I know it!

No, he's not some meek, shy virginal maiden who blushes at a mere glance thrown in his direction and lays there with his eyes closed as Lestat tenderly deflowers him.

Louis is confident, charming, charismatic, street smart, resourceful, savvy, and even overly cocky at times.

And yes, in his worst moments, he is also repressed, selfish, hypocritical, brooding and depressed to the point of being suicidal.

He is a complex character that contains multitudes and it would be nice if fans appreciated all these aspects of him instead of stripping him of most of it to try and shove him into narrow tropes.
