Crazy Decorator Éomer meets surly electrician Gimli - Chapter 2

Gimli arrived at precisely 7:55 AM. Punctuality was important to him, especially for this job. He wanted to finish as soon as possible, even if he knew it would take a Christmas miracle to actually finish it before the holidays. Like in one of those sappy movies.

He sighed. It would take a week and a half if everything went smoothly, but Gimli knew well enough that things never happened that way. Besides, this was an old house that had been left to itself for too long. He remembered the face of the owner, Éomer Éomundson, when he had to break the news: a complete rewiring of the house.

Gimli grabbed his toolbox and locked his truck. He paused on the front steps and looked up at the historic home with a web of wires that hadn’t been looked at in… thirty years? Maybe more? He shook his head. He wasn’t into Christmas decorations but, really, he pitied the guy.

“Hi there!”

Startled, Gimli turned towards the sound of the voice. It was the guy he had seen yesterday; the neighbor. He walked onto Éomer’s driveway, with a smile that grated on Gimli’s nerves. He knew these kinds of guys, who thought they owned everyone and everything. And, as expected, the guy came and leaned against the truck. Gimli’s truck. He felt a twinge of irritation and tightened his grip on the handle of his toolbox.

“Yes?”  The man smiled sheepishly which only aggravated Gimli even more.

“I was wondering if I could… borrow you… for a job in my house?”

“I already have an appointment.  And you’re about to make me late for it.”

“Oh. It would be after your work here.”

“Never heard anything from my boss.”  The man gaped at him, and Gimli enjoyed it immensely.

“No. It would be a… side job, you understand?”

“I don’t do side jobs.”

“It won’t take long. Just a few things to fix… here and there,” the man pressed.

“I don’t fix here and there. Make an appointment.”  He turned on his heel, but the shrill tone of the man’s voice stopped him.

“But there’s no one else available before Christmas!”

“Guess you won’t be able to add more inflatables then.”  Gimli didn’t even look to see the other guy’s reaction. He climbed the steps, ready to ring the bell when the door opened suddenly. Éomer was furious.  “Sorry I’m…”

But Gimli never finished. He realized the man’s anger was directed elsewhere.

“Neighbor.”

“Hey, neighbor. I was just leaving.”  Gimli looked back, and the smirk he saw made him hate the guy even more.  “Good luck with your lights.”

The man chuckled and left, walking through the yard and knocking over a reindeer. So, this was what a decoration war looked like. It was pathetic and ugly. Gimli shook his head, but thankfully, Éomer was too caught up in his own anger to notice.

Even though he’d never admit it out loud, Gimli did feel sorry for him. After all, his decorations weren’t that bad, and he could tell that Éomer had put a lot of work into them. Especially compared to the army of inflatables across the street. Well, there was only one thing to do: try to get through this tremendous job as quickly as possible so the neighbor would have less to smirk about.

“Ignore that chump,” he said and patted Éomer’s arm. “At Aglarond Electricians, we don’t give up on the job. Soon, this house will blind everyone in the whole neighborhood!”  To Gimli’s surprise, Éomer frowned.  Had he been too forward with the arm pat?

“The goal is not to blind everyone, it’s…” Éomer pinched his nose and sighed.  “You know what, it doesn’t matter.  Let’s just get this over with.”

But the man had been nothing but professional, minus the grumbling about the decorations. He had taken the time to explain everything in detail: the age of the house, the condition of the wiring, the signs of deterioration, what the process would involve. Then, after ordering a few parts, he gave Éomer the quote.

That had been the cherry on this dreadful morning. Éomer had been tempted to call the whole thing off, but the thought of Éowyn not coming to spend Christmas with him was unacceptable. Feeling trapped, he signed the dotted line.

Éomer looked around. He noted where Gimli was working then looked again at his watch. Soon he would have to leave to meet Éowyn for lunch. He didn’t want to miss a single minute with her, even if it meant he had to help her shop for this new boyfriend of hers.

A part of him resented the guy. Éowyn needed to be protected. She had taken the death of their uncle the hardest, since she had been the one taking care of him. That was why Éomer had always tried to make Christmas as special as their uncle had; so that she would remember the good times they’d spent together and not the last months of his life.  But now she had chosen to spend Christmas somewhere else with a guy Éomer hadn’t even met before.

A sound brought him back to reality. Gimli was shifting from foot to foot, watching him.  How long had he been standing there?

“What?”

“I was going to ask if you wanted me to lock the basement door when I was done, if you weren’t back yet.”

“Right.” He had forgotten that a good part of the job would be there. With an irritated, Éomer went to unlock the door that would lead to the dreaded fuse box and its nest of old wires. “Uh… if I leave, are you going to be okay?”

Gimli arched an eyebrow in a way that made Éomer feel like an idiot. Who would ask this kind of thing to a rough and burly electrician like this guy? With his braided red beard and his muscular arms… and who hated Christmas.

“If you’re okay with leaving me alone in your house.”

“As long as you don’t tear down my decorations.”

“Don’t tempt me.”

Éomer froze. Was that a joke? It was difficult to read the other man’s expression. Then Gimli rolled his eyes.

“At Aglarond Electricians, we repair things that are broken, we don’t break them.” Éomer felt ashamed. Of course he would not do anything like that. But before he could apologize, Gimli added.

“Too late to fix your taste in decorations though.” Éomer clamped his mouth shut. No way he would apologize to this… Scrooge. Gimli held out his hand. “Give me what’s necessary to navigate your house and I’ll be fine.”

Éomer nodded. The sooner he left, the better. It was impossible to stay here any longer with a man like that. Besides, he was already running late, because he lost a fair amount of time trying to find his keys. He began to swear under his breath.

Gimli was beginning to feel unnerved by the increasing agitation of the other man. He was losing precious time to advance the repairs while Éomer was struggling to find which key opened what. He grabbed the key set and Éomer looked at him startled.

“I’ll figure out the keys, myself. You’re making me nervous.” Éomer looked at him, stunned.

“You’re serious?” Gimli rolled his eyes. He didn’t know why he was acting like that. It was ridiculous. But the other man’s face lit up with a smile. And something twirled in Gimli’s stomach. “It won’t cost more, right?!”

The bubbling feelings became ice.

“No. I don’t make my client pay extra when they mix up their keys.” Éomer reddened and, seeing his eyes downcast, Gimli felt a bit mollified. “So… got a date, eh?”

Eomer shook his head.

“My sister. It has been a while…”

To his surprise, Gimli felt a rush of relief. It made him angry all of a sudden.  Why would he be relieved that Éomer wasn’t going on a date?

“’kay. Go now, I’ve got work waiting for me.”

Éomer left in a hurry, not even looking back. Gimli sighed and left for the basement. He had a job to do and he couldn’t afford to get behind…

“Can you believe that? It’ll cost me an arm and a leg, and I’ll have to deal with this… Scrooge for the next two weeks!” Éomer sighed as he took a sip of his coffee.

“You’re sure it’s not just a bad string?” Éomer rolled his eyes.

“I’m not an idiot. Of course I tested them all inside before installing them.”  Éowyn hold her hands out.

“Okay! Just wanted to make sure you didn’t need to pay big bucks…”

“Mr. Scrooge already asked me. Made me feel like a fool, but at least he’s honest.”

“Why do you keep calling him that?”

Éowyn was looking at him, but Éomer noticed how she had barely eaten. Something was bothering her. Maybe his problem with the lights? Dread began gnawing at his stomach.

“He does not like Christmas. First thing he said in the house! He had not stopped grumbling about the decorations since he arrived. It’s a nightmare.”  Éowyn smiled tightly.

“Maybe he just does not like overdecorations?”

The words made Éomer’s stomach lurch. He looked at his half-eaten plate. They had walked a good part of the afternoon, looking for gifts for her new boyfriend, this supposedly “Mr. Perfect” and his family. Éomer was merely tagging along, just to be there with her. After all, the best gift he could give her was the house fully decorated, just like when Uncle Théoden did it.

Then, after all the gifts had been bought, they sat for a quick supper… and the sky dropped on his head. Háma had told Éowyn about his light problem. Why would Háma betray him like that?

Éowyn laid a hand on his arm. He blinked.

“What?”

“Mer. Christmas is not about decorations, or how many lights or the music? It’s about… who you spend Christmas with… the people.” She was smiling tentatively. He patted her arm.

“Thank you, but I know you’re only saying that just to be nice. Don’t worry, I’ll get this problem fixed. You will get your Christmas decorations.”

“Éomer…”

“Éowyn, I promise. It’ll be perfect, like when we were kids!” She sighed and looked away.  “Háma shouldn’t have told you about this! You’re worried for nothing!”

“Do not dare blame him! He only told me so that I could reassure you I would come, lights or no lights.”

“Why would you not come?”

“Éomer…”

“No. You’re not coming. Is that it?”

“I told you. Faramir invited me to spend Christmas with him and his family.” She touched his arm but he kept staring at his plate now. “And you are welcome to come, you know? It’s not even about where … it’s about who you’re spending it with!”

“No. No. Éowyn. Please, listen to me.” Éomer shook his head vehemently. It was his turn now to take her arm, to look into her eyes, to make her understand.

“I promise. I’ll fix everything! The house will be decorated like never before. There will be lights everywhere!” he added with a triumphal smile, “Faramir will not be able to compete against that.”

But Éowyn’s face darkened. She took her arm away from him and begin packing.

“You. Don’t. Listen.”  She stood and now Éomer felt panic rise, eating at him.

“Wyn?”

“Just…” She shook her head and sighed.  “Forget it. I still have a lot of things to do before Christmas. And clearly you do, too. I’m sure you don’t want to leave your Mr. Scrooge too long alone in the house.”

He was looking at her, unable to speak or move. She had her gift bags in her hands and gave him one last hard look.

“After all, you don’t want him to ruin your perfect lights, right?”  She turned on her heel and left.

Éomer watched her leave and then laid his hands on the table.  No. It wasn’t possible. Why was everything going so wrong?

Still shaking, he stood up and went to pay. That darn electrician had better solve his light problem, and fast.

OMG this is AMAZING! I love it! I can imagine all the coming and going of Gimli (a montage of course), with Eomer sweating profusely, looking in despair at the big clock (as if there is some countdown) and Gimli slowing down just because (he thinks at first) it is annoying Eomer but in the long run because he enjoys the guy but oh, it will never work and he will go back to his life with his glowing roomate (Legolas being Gimli best friend) that is so much better looking than him. And Eomer is asking more and more help because (he thinks) he wants everything to be perfect for his sister but in the end it's because he likes this guy and how do you say this to a surely eletrician... I love this.

Aw, I’m glad that you’re enjoying Yuletide Éomer! I wish I could take credit for it, but it was gifted to me (and others) by the wonderful @emmanuellececchi for the holiday season! And a good thing, because my own PhotoShop skills are abysmal/nonexistent!

I don’t know why, but I have a strong feeling that Éomer in the real world would be one of those guys who takes decorating his house Very Seriously. Like, he is making the kind of light display that his neighbors will find impressive but also secretly hate because it brings a lot of extra traffic to their street. He plans it out months in advance with lots of diagrams and schematics. And if anyone else on the street does anything even *close* to as good as his display, he won’t rest until he’s upgraded with some fancy new innovation to make it clear that he is, in fact, the undisputed king of Christmas. So, yeah, I think he’s a Yuletide kind of guy! 🥰

Would you say that Jace is considered the most classically beautiful out of her sisters by the court?

Ooh fun question. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I think all the Targ and Velaryon girls are considered beautiful/attractive. But they’re beautiful/attractive in different ways.

Jace checks off the “classical beauty” boxes the most, and artists are likely to want to use her as a muse (they have to get in line behind Aegon). But the formal, proper way she conducts herself in public makes her seem unattainable, so her admirers are kept at a distance (good for Aegon’s sanity). Think Arwen from LOTR with her untouchable ethereal aura. Or Jane Bennet from P&P.

Luce is also beautiful, but she gives off more “girl next door” vibes because she’s very friendly and open, sometimes a little too much. Her admirers are more likely to think they actually have a chance with her (anything from a kiss to marriage to an illicit fling), so they flock a lot closer to her (bad for Aemond’s sanity). Luce’s comparison would be more like Elizabeth Bennet from P&P, or maybe the OG Queen Rhaenys.

Joff, when she gets older, will also be acknowledged as beautiful. But she’ll scare away most of her would-be admirers 😂. If Luce is more of a Rhaenys, Joff is definitely a Visenya. Joff probably ends up with the most Valyrian hallmarks of beauty, which can seem harsh and austere to a lot of people. But Daeron isn’t intimidated (and, unfortunately for him, neither is Tristimun Crabb lol).

the issue with this is that fundamentally I don't know any movies. i am so bad at watching visual media. so this will be more classes of movies than specifics

kris: not hugely into movies, so mostly thinks fondly of ones that came w family bonding watching together. since Asriel, that means a lot of fantasy. still really likes the lotr series. fondness for obscure anime movies too

susie: b action movies. she doesn't want a plot or coherence or more than 50 dollars spent on special effects. she wants to see 80s guys fight each other on a beach for unclear reasons and then something explodes

noelle: has a huge and curated library of horror movies. favorites tend towards classic slashers. ironically deeply hates the Hallmark Christmas movies because her big business mom moved to a small town and discovered Christmas but that did no one any good

Super freaking powerful, but everyone sees him as a pushover. Clocked Edge once and people stopped messing with him as much.

Lowkey germaphobe. Chance (a close friend of Papyrus) got sick once and wasn’t getting better no matter how many healing things he ate. So the doctor explained what germs were and how they affect the human body. And he figured out that magic can only heal so much.

Likes Roald Dahl books!

S: How much do you know about the resets?

P: Everything.

Papyrus has some unresolved issues after the resets. He doesn’t remember all of them, but after a while he starts to realize something is going on. In one of the more memorable resets Sans fesses up while drunk and it sticks with Papyrus forever.

*Red (UF)

Red owns a Butcher shop where he works sporadically, does commission-esque work for NASA (with Sans more often than not), and works part-time at an autoshop.

Red loves soft things. He’s got a LOT of pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals hidden away.

His room, like his brothers, starts off mostly devoid of personal flair. He actually keeps it decently clean. (OC specific reasons)

Germaphobe? Maybe??

Legit is the meme “AND WHAT WAS HER SISTER??? A WITCH!” He loves Labyrinth, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Wizard of Oz, and all the theories that come with it

Loves Star Trek and actively gets in debates with Sans over which is better

Holy moly this guy loves hotdogs. It seems like he’s always chowing down on one, a big happy smile on his face. Red loves to gnosh on a ‘dog, but he wants them to be loaded with extra stuff. Chili dogs? Oh yeah. New York style? He loves it. Oral fixation? Maybe. He’s just so much happier when he has food in his mouth.

Red’s a big guy. Taller than Classic and pretty wide. His ecto is on the heavier side, but it’s probably due to his affinity for eating.

*Edge (UF)

Works on his relationship with his brother after they had a particularly nasty fight

What guilty pleasure could the terrible papyrus have? Edge likes country music and devil’s food cake. Edge has a MASSIVE sweet tooth when it comes to chocolates. He likes to collect pretty wrappers and keep them stored away all nicely smoothed in a plastic container in his desk.

Stretch and Edge watch Christmas Hallmark movies together and have a pact so that neither can use it as blackmail.

*Blue (US):

Enjoys well crafted jokes and tells riddles (unlike normal HCs). Prefers not to curse, but still occasionally swears. Loves his sports bike, and works as a police officer- And streams his gaming with that gimmick in his free time. Not as hyper all the time, and is actually a half decent chef.

Underswap had the least amount of monsters to be merged into the world… it’s… a tragedy. (AU specific)

He likes to workout in the mornings when humans are normally still asleep so he can just enjoy the sounds of nature.

While he is loud and enthusiastic, secretly he really values his alone time. His guilty pleasure? A strawberry daiquiri and a true crime podcast while he games.

Knows SO MANY embarrassing stories about Stretch and would love to tell you. He has baby photos in his wallet and coos about his “adorable baby brother” to anyone who will listen.

Likes to tease Stretch about his Emo phase. He’ll play the first note of “welcome to the black parade” and watch Stretch snap to attention and frantically look around. He also likes to jokingly mock the edgy things Stretch would say to him like, “You’d never understand!!”, and his favorite “it’s not a phase, sans!!!! this is who I really am!!!!” And even though Stretch tried to throw out his old Emo gear when he eventually moved on, Blue held on to some of it for him.

Once dressed up as Sheldon Cooper for Halloween. Stretch dressed as Leonard.

Blue LOVES sitcoms

*Stretch (Orange) (US):

Both he and his brother love puzzles (as is standard with Swap! Universes). Orange swears a bit more than Blue, and also sounds more like Papyrus. Orange is an author under a pseudonym for a decently popular mystery series, builds computers to commission, and does a lot of design to commission. (Starving artist lookin ahh)

Listens to things like California Girls, Hot & Cold, and Party in the USA unironically

Little brother energy! Little brother energy! LITT- you get the point. Stretch does anything and EVERYTHING he can to annoy his big brother. Malicious compliance? No problem. Low hanging fruit jokes? You know it. The only problem is when Blue turns it around on Stretch!

He keeps a stash of lollipops in his room! Oral fixation anyone? If Stretch doesn’t have something in his mouth, he will resort to chewing on his sleeves, the cords of his hoodie, his fingers, or he won’t be able to think. To cope with this, Stretch owns high grade silicon jewelry and normally always has a drink in his hands. A lot of Stretch’s money, actually, goes to local coffee shops (namely Muffets or Starbucks) or whatever energy drink he can get his hands on. When Blue intervened, worrying his baby brother may become dependent on caffeine, helped to supply Stretch with bottles of water, lemonade, or even vitamin water. Luckily, his computer job pays well enough.

Has an allowance. Being a starving artist means his expensive habits have to be kept in check. Blue supplies him with drinks and lollipops, but limits how much Stretch can purchase in one week.

Much like his twin, Stretch stress shops.

Rus, Stretch, and Syrup will literally NEVER admit it, but they’re all huge musical dorks. Stretch loves Legally Blonde.

This dork is a HUGE comic book nerd and movie goer. He sees a new movie every Thursday night at the same theater. He can gush about Marvel, rant about DC, and info dump about a brand new Manga like he’s a main character in Big Bang Theory.

He can do a SCARILY GOOD Ryan Renolds impression… like really good. Loves Deadpool if ONLY because of Ryan, and thinks that Ryan is the hottest man in the multiverse. By proxy he LOVES Spirited. Musical? Check. Ryan Renolds? Check. Crude Christmas humor? Check check and check!

*Wine (FS)

Wine, true to his name, likes to have a glass of wine to relax. Secretly, though, he really loves drinking OJ in his pajamas and watching Steven Universe and other such cartoons when he feels sick.

*Syrup (FS)

Syrup is a really popular streamer, but he’s actually going to MIT to get his degree in computer science. Coded most of the property’s security system and helped stabilize the machine (™). Is also a writer, and has done a “book swap” with Orange.

Syrup has an apathetic disorder, so he has a very hard time expressing/understanding/recognizing emotions.

Super touch starved.

His favorite musicals are: Dear Evan Hansen, Hades Town, Phantom of the Opera (and Love Never Dies), and Rent

Southern accent, slightly?!?

Puppy/Coffee (FS gold)

Got pulled through the machine alone, leaving him miserable and incredibly depressed. Wine immediately claims him as his brother, and is fiercely protective.

He’s a hermit, but also very popular on “Snitch” for his excellent gaming skills. He likes espresso.

Is actually really good with money. Puppy has a hard time sitting still, being alone, or reading- But is incredibly good with numbers and science. According to Puppy, when things are applied to math and science, they are forced to make sense. This is due to the fact that while language is regional and temporary, Math and Science are universal languages with “strict” rules. It “just makes sense”.

Talks in a smaller font than the others, is lowercase, and also mostly mute (as said before).

Doesn’t like feeling like a burden, and wants people to believe in him. He loves Wine and his new family, but he feels tired of the others treating him like an incompetent child.

Goes to college online!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES!!!! TE- yeah he’s a fan. He loves all of the incarnations equally (except the live action ones… those one took a second for him to come around on)

Nox (SF)

Is incredibly prideful over his prize winning tomato plants.

Owns an incredibly high end fashion boutique and becomes a very famous designer.

Guilty pleasure: Nox likes having a glass of wine while lounging in a bubble bath while reading a saucy romance novel.

Speaks fluent Korean and will not admit it but he LOVES k-pop (which is why he learned Korean)

Rus (SF)

Where’d all the hot sauce go? Damn it Rus, not again!

This mofo is smug to the max, and a total chain smoker (like most swapped paps are). Runs a monster smoke/weed shop. Rus is a bit of an asshole. (OC specific HC removed)

(AU specific HC removed)

Rus has a decent sense of humor, mainly reaching for low hanging fruit. He’s really chill, has a mediocre sense of fashion, but can apply makeup like a pro. Spends a lot of time holed up in his room gaming. He gets along really well with Coffee/Puppy, and likes Stardew Valley.

Chaos twins with Stretch

Stress shops to deal with things. Despite his high intelligence, and namesake, Cash/Rus is really bad with money. Rus is notoriously bad for blowing entire paychecks in a few days, leaving Nox to limit his spending via a daily transaction limit that can only be raised with Nox’s approval.

LOVES Hamilton. Like L O V E S. He knows every word to every song.

Knows K-pop choreo

Comic (HandPlates)

Comic learns incredibly quickly, and is widely regarded as a kid genius. His brother is his first and only priority. He’s great with people, but will drop all his plans if Solaris needs him.

Definitely plays D&D

Comic is both a hypersomniac and an insomniac, finding himself unable to sleep at night (at least without his brother) but too tired to do much during the day.

Comic likes to read, and takes online college courses despite his young age.

Comic adores his brother, but is slowly feeling worse and worse.

Comic develops a soul sickness due to only having half a soul and very little HoPe. This disease leads to him being wheelchair bound with something similar to an oxygen tank (which is a magic gas meant to keep him stable).

Comic is rather lethargic, never really having the energy to do much of anything. He takes up things like piano, gaming, and reading.

Much like his older self, Comic loves LOTR and The Hobbit. He likes it when his brother wheels him to the pier over their lake in the grotto so he can just sunbathe and read.

Cuddly.

Solaris (HandPlates)

A child. Has a few learning disabilities and needs glasses (tiny eye-lights, always squinting). Both him and Comic have dyslexia, Comic just less so. Solaris, because he grows up with strong people, learns insane control over his magic and is insanely powerful (to no one’s surprise because he’s literally Papyrus)

Gravity Falls and Owl House make up a lot of his Sunday mornings!

Creator of Comic and Solaris, being held in the basement. No one likes him. WD is quiet and shows basic level regret, but is mostly apathetic and stands by his views on doing what he needed to. Slowly starts to break down due to the isolation.

Goes to therapy afterwords, starts finding normalcy again.

LOVES Harry Potter, knows none of the controversies. He also rewrote the whole series to make better sense and made his own version, both are available to read on several websites and are incredibly popular.

When Comic gets sick… it hurts. He felt like a failure, like it was his fault (it is) and that he should be able to fix him. Wingdings starts to work hard to find a cure, often skipping sleep and meals.

Is normally seen baking or wood working.

Loves doing things with his hands, and is learning to play the guitar.

Is a bit absent minded, and keeps a lot of journals to keep himself up to date.

Eventually calms down about food, still uses it as a love language, but still won’t tolerate waste. Every bit of food is used, up to but not limited to being used as fertilizer.

It takes a while, but he gets over his violent tendencies, but still struggles with new people or trespassers on the property.

Bear is really close with the woodland creatures, and seems to understand the harmony in their woods. The skeleton family owns a considerable portion of the woods for “conservation” reasons. Animals don’t take it personally when he hunts, mainly because he does it in intense moderation.

Actually finds joy in fishing, he can sit still and be quiet for hours. Fishing is a form of meditation.

Likes soft music and dark humor from time to time.

There is going to be an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility with an all-Black cast - so cue the racist whining from fans of the very, very white 1995 S&S. I love Austen, but the fandom on the whole rivals the Tolkien one in terms of racism. What do you think it will take to change this?

Wow. I knew vaguely that Hallmark was doing something Austen-inspired, but I just Googled about it and that S&S sounds really cool (probably the coolest of the productions, in fact). So I haven't seen any discussion of this adaptation beyond what my two minutes of scanning "sense and sensibility 2024" results turned up.

That said, I have absolutely no difficulty believing that Austen fans (esp fans of extremely white adaptations) would pitch fits about it. Despite the differences between Austen and Tolkien fandoms, I think both fandoms tend (broadly) to use the racism and overwhelming whiteness of their canons—and the even whiter and more racist adaptations of those canons—to veil their own racism. And they'll try and pass this off as simply a concern with fidelity (though they're less concerned with fidelity when it comes to basically any other consideration, mysteriously).

To be honest, I don't know what would change this in either fandom in any kind of conclusive way. I mean, I'm a random white blogger on Tumblr dot com, not an expert on racism. My personal feeling is that ... I guess both fandoms used to be even worse (as far as I saw), so positive change has happened, but racism is still huge in fandom culture and I don't know what would make it go away.

I do think that, much as I love Austen's and Tolkien's work, that there are reasons that they have often attracted particularly racist audiences even for fandom (e.g. the cloistered whiteness of Austen, the overt racism in LOTR and the world-building of Middle-earth). I suspect that those elements will always draw in particularly racist fans unless fandom is made inhospitable to them. And I think it's incumbent on us to do our part in that process. Beyond that, other people probably know better than I do.

2) A ship that might surprise others: I kinda ship Link x Mipha from BOTW. I like Zelda x Link too, but something about Link x Mipha is just so sweet and tragic. I like that they knew each other for a lot longer than Zelda and Link knew each other.

I honestly do not remember...Probably, Love letter to the man you've never got to be.

Very hard to say because I don't finish too many of my long fics lol. I'd want to say Sticks and stones (Christmas Hallmark story)...it's just that kind of story.

My TRSBs are usually "Happy End given the circumstances" rather than all-out Happy End...lol

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Thus far, no.

I am not relevant or known enough to attract that kind of attention!

Me? No...(There have been spicy scenes in long fics, spicy fics, outrageous ficlets, Kinktober, Dead Dove December, MSV...Ok yeah, I do...and I do all of it. M/F, F/F, M/M, M/F/M...from vanilla to whips. You choose, I write)

I am an AU bitch. I've done a HP drabble once...Les Mis/LOTR for last year's Christmas event...it happens...

I am fast, I am versatile, and I am willing to write almost any character, dynamic, ship, and genre. From tooth-rotting fluff to noncon. From very vanilla M/F meet-cute to kinky sex.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I am bad at punctuation. I rarely have an outline, I just write. I do not plan, I do not come up with complicated worldbuilding, I have exactly 0 HC documents.

I just write whatever comes to mind.

Moreover, I have a real problem with posting. I write A LOT more than I post...because I just can't motivate myself to reread LOL

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I avoid even Tolkien's languages for fear of getting something wrong. I am fluent in at least 3 other languages, but I am not entirely sure whether there would ever be a place for them.

If I did that, I am afraid that it would become incomprehensible as the only one I wouldn't use is my mother tongue. It would sound a bit...magniloquent...

So, has anyone else been having this issue with their queued posts lately? This has been happening semi-regularly for a bit and I don’t understand why.

Also, when I did the most recent app update it now largely won’t let me re-schedule queued posts, telling me to do it on my computer instead. Which is weird & new; was that on purpose (why though?) or is it a bug that slipped through in the current update?

I’m still greatly enjoying Leverage and I liked seeing Richard Kind in the last The Librarians episode I saw. Recently I read The Con Job, which has a few hiccups mostly relating to being set in early 2010s geek culture, although there is a moment where Hardison acknowledges the amount of whiteness present. Interestingly, a notable part of the book’s premise is that Nate is giving Hardison opportunities to step up as the mastermind, with one at San Diego Comic-Con being perfect for that purpose, whereas I have gathered the actual shows make Parker the next leader. It’s unclear if the author wasn’t read in on that, was oblivious to that (whether due to preferring Hardison or due to sexism), or if there’s an aspect of Hardison wanting to be mastermind before shifting gears that’ll pop up in the later seasons that I haven’t seen yet. Cha0s appears and Wil Wheaton is mentioned, but the fourth wall is maintained. Overall, it was a decent read but not especially memorable. Up next is either The Librarians And The Mother Goose Chase or The Book of Earth. Which is the 1st book in The Dragon Quartet, not an ATLA novelization.

Speaking of Wheaton, I have reached some of his voice work on Star Trek Prodigy. It’s definitely interesting to see a grown Wesley being the caretaker of the timeline, what with his character’s origins as a partial (?) expy for Roddenberry on a Doylist level.

Last week I obtained Hallmark’s Sense & Sensibility as well as The Slipper & the Rose. Yes, I’ve been reblogging posts on the former without seeing it; in my defense, I ordered it as soon as I found out it had been released on DVD.

This is mostly why I’ve been ‘eh okay’ about the queue not letting itself be modified on the app. I want to take screenshots & make posts on these movies. That needs to happen on my laptop, not the app (unlike this one). Hopefully I’ll ease back into doing posts for tv shows. Like Star Trek DS9, for example.

There are probably going to be just one or two posts about “Replay” before I move onto Static Shock’s 1st season finale.

I’m still behind on TROP, but I do want to catch up so I can justify reblogging the great posts I’ve seen from later in the season. Hopefully one of the changes will be Tar Miriel surviving. She could end up like BBC Merlin’s Queen Guinevere, ruling alone at the end, given Elendil’s predetermined fate as the LOTR books are the canon used by the show. Huh, there’s a thought: will the final season end on Isildur’s death or will there be episodes showing what happened afterwards? Or will TROP also get cut short? I hope not, but the recent cancellations mean it’s definitely a risk. :/

Uh, I want to end on a happier note than that. Let’s see. I’m probably going to keep the current daily posts through November, but I’ll probably do BATB (1991 & 2022) posts in December again, replacing either The Librarians or TROP. Leverage & BBC Merlin’s Gwen/Queen Guinevere will likely switch over to being in the mornings for 2025. Star Trek DS9 might slow down or not, depending on if I resume my re-watch. This might change as I actually approach 2025, but this is my plan at the moment.
