Senshi is the go-to vampire and has all sorts of way of preparing blood like food and staying nutritionally balanced. Turns out he thought he was a vampire the whole time but wasn’t???

Marcille isn’t a vampire but has a ? vampire curse of immortality? She is deeply invested in vampire research. she gets turned by the winged lion because she believes she can use necromantic powers of the undead to revive Falin (killed by thistle) but it doesnt really work..? Also wants to turn everyone else to make them immortal too

Verhas'alhan - To Yearn for Wilderness by RosemaryBagels - Veil came down, Lavellan hides from Solas and makes a life in a little village. Solas is in prime yearning, sad, wet cat mode here.

Memory (series) by MistressDragonFlame - pre trespasser. Pure angst, hurt no comfort. Lavellan forgets all the events of Inquisition and the anchor is killing her. Solas finds out, bad times ensue.

Love Is Not A Victory March by Myrime - post trespasser, Solas and his forces are winning. Solas and Lavellan have a meeting. Angsty. Like something that I had hoped we would've gotten in da4.

Barefaced by playwithdinos - post trespasser but also Arlathan AU. Some time travel stuff involved. Lavellan has amnesia, but Solas remembers everything. Not finished but what is there is worth the read. Lavellan is Ghilan'nain's slave. Andruil is also there.

but never doubt I love by cedarmoons - Jaws of Hakkon angst. Post Inquisition, pre trespasser but with moments during Inquisition as well. Lot of angst, hurt but with comfort this time.

the diver's wife by magesamell - Lavellan makes herself tranquil kind of Seeker-style in order to defeat Solas, then needs him to come back to herself. Angsty solavellan road trip.

Hobo Apostate by broomclosetkink - Lavellan shows up when Solas is about to tear the veil down. Points out the hilarity between hobo apostate Solas and ender-of-worlds dread wolf Solas.

It Is Not Enough by NamelessShe - This is a chonky fic but it is one of my favorite post trespasser ones. Very lore heavy, I recommend this one for anyone who laments the lost lore and story threads in da4.

sleep like this by mortaltemples - The most da4 relevant fic on this list. Lavellan is a ghost, 10/10.

I will make you whole again by amorficzna - Solas tears down the veil, kills everyone, goes back in time to the beginning of Inquisition to be with Lavellan as Solas (...as he wanted).

Between Heartbeats by houndinghell - Ameridian/Telana parallel lovers are eating so fucking good in this fic. Lavellan makes the ultimate sacrifice to stop Solas during his final veil dropping ritual. Hurts so good.

The Healer's Bloodied Hands by geekyjez - post trespasser sick-fic. Classic hurt/comfort.

i'd rather flail like a mortal (than flail like a god) by crossingwinter - post trespasser. Angsty but with a hopeful ending, more hurt/comfort, another instance of Solas coming face to face with his vhenan's mortality.

The One Where Lavellan is a Nug by Feynite - I think this is my favorite solavellan fic of all time. Just please read it if you haven't, and read it again if you have.

I usually watch constantine 2005 sometime during the last couple of months of the year. sometimes several times during the last couple of months of the year. sometimes I even get around to doing a full re read of the vertigo run and find some time to draw the man the myth the legend while I'm on a train.

i’ve been thinking about dex’s story in born again.

how, in universe, the world saw dex after the events of josies, and after his trial. how quick everyone was to believe he just snapped and went on a revenge fueled rampage at josies. and the sad thing is, that makes sense in the worst possible way. because the world is always going to be more comfortable writing someone like dex off as just another mentally ill guy who lost control. that’s the story people are used to. it’s easier, simpler, and it doesn’t require any deep thought or empathy. it doesn’t ask them to look at who failed him, who used him, who broke him down. it doesn’t ask them to understand the difference between someone being dangerous and someone being made into a weapon. and most people just don’t care enough to look closer.

and what gets me is how many people refuse to hold both truths about dex at the same time. that he’s a victim and a perpetrator. that he did horrific things and was still deeply, painfully used. i hate how often people online will reduce it to “oh you just like him because he’s hot” when you try to talk about him with nuance. like no. dex is complex. he’s the wound and the knife. he is someone who’s suffered, been manipulated, abandoned, used like a tool, but that doesn’t erase what he’s done. it doesn’t mean people weren’t hurt, or that his violence didn’t matter. you can see his pain and still hold him accountable. you can understand where it came from and still be horrified by the outcome. none of that is contradictory. it’s just real. he’s a character full of contradictions, and that’s part of what makes him so compelling. reducing him to one thing, victim, villain, psycho, it just flattens him into a version of himself that isn’t true.

and even in the show, it’s like no one really wants to see the whole truth of who dex is. it’s easier for them to believe “crazy guy goes violent” than to admit that someone vulnerable was groomed and turned into a weapon by someone with more power. for example in episode 8 where matt slams dex’s head into the table, and when the guard walks in, matt lies and says dex did it to himself. and the guard doesn’t even hesitate to believe it. he just immediately goes, “you crazy asshole.” he doesn’t even question it. because that’s already the version of dex they’ve decided is true. they don’t need proof, they don’t need context. they hear “he hurt himself” and go “of course he did.” and that’s what’s so brutal about it. even matt bought into that narrative at first. even though he knew dex had worked for fisk after the events of season three. and he listened to dex’s tapes. he believed that dex was a man who woke up one day on impulse and decided to kill foggy eight years after the events of season three. because he believed dex to be a violent and disturbed psychopath. because that’s the story society already believes. many people believe that mentally ill people are inherently dangerous. quiet violence is scarier than loud chaos. so people don’t ask questions. they just assume the worst. so dex being quiet and restrained in his rage in the trial scene just confirmed what they already thought about him. and that kind of widespread erasure makes dex’s story even more tragic. not just what happened to him, but how no one really sees it. not fully.

and that invisibility messes with him too. dex already struggles with identity. he barely knows who he is when no one’s giving him a script to follow. so when the whole world reduces him to nothing but a monster, a rampage shooter, it probably confirms the worst things he already fears about himself. even if he knows deep down it’s not the whole truth, it gets in his head. like maybe they’re right. maybe he really is just broken and dangerous and beyond saving. that he is an animal and nothing more. and that’s what hurts him. because he tried. he tried to be good. he tried to follow the rules. for so many years because he genuinely wanted to be a better version of himself. he tried to be useful, to matter, to be someone. and in the end, none of it mattered. no one remembers that he tried. they only see the end result. they only see the damage.

and that weight, the failure, the guilt, the grief of never being seen clearly, that’s something he has to carry alone. it’s what makes his story so heavy to sit with. and none of this is to say that dex isn’t still responsible for what he’s done. evidently he knew what he was doing. even if he was manipulated into it. he made choices, and those choices hurt people. he’s not innocent. he’s not good. he’s a villain. that’s who he is, that’s who he’s becoming, and he’s also someone with borderline personality disorder. someone who was manipulated, used, pushed to the edge, and weaponized. those things can all exist at once. he’s not either a tragic victim or an evil monster. he’s both. and when people act like empathizing with him or understanding where he came from is the same as excusing what he did, it’s just dishonest. like no one’s out here saying “my poor baby” and pretending he didn’t kill people. it’s just acknowledging that there’s more to him than what most are willing to see. that doesn’t absolve him. it just complicates him. and if that makes people uncomfortable, maybe they should ask why it’s so much easier to believe someone like dex is just a psycho killer than to accept that he’s human. flawed, dangerous, and human.

if people are saying that about comic bullseye, then yeah, it makes sense. that version of him is literally written to be an unstable psychopath who kills people for fun. he’s meant to be scary and empty and cruel, and that’s it. that’s what makes his character so fun to read. the needless violence, the grin on his face while he commits it. but dex isn’t only that. dex is bullseye, but he’s a version with so much more nuance and humanity. he is capable of everything that comic bullseye is capable of. but he has more contradictions, more depth. he’s not just evil for the sake of it. he’s broken and angry and used and spiraling, and all of that is still his responsibility, but it’s layered. he’s not just a killer. he’s a person. comic bullseye is the foundation, but dex was built on top of that. same character, same legacy, just finally given complexity. he has all the traits of his comic self, but there’s pain behind it now. there’s grief, there’s loneliness, there’s a desperate want to be seen and loved. he’s bullseye in every way, but now he’s also human and real.

Round 3 - Chondrichthyes - Carcharhiniformes

Carcharhiniformes, commonly known as “Ground Sharks”, are the largest order of sharks. They include the families Scyliorhinidae (“catsharks”), Atelomycteridae (“coloured catsharks”), Pentanchidae (“deepwater catsharks”), Dichichthyidae (“bristle sharks”), Pseudotriakidae (“false catsharks”), Proscylliidae (“finback catsharks”), Leptochariidae (“Barbeled Houndshark”), Triakidae (“houndsharks”), Hemigaleidae (“weasel sharks”), Carcharhinidae (“requiem sharks”), Galeocerdonidae (“Tiger Shark”), and Sphyrnidae (“hammerhead sharks”).

Due to being such a large order, Carcharhiniformes are very diverse. Scyliorhinid catsharks (image 4) are distinguished by their elongated, cat-like eyes and two small dorsal fins set far back. They are usually small, with a patterned appearance, ranging from stripes to patches to spots. Carcharhinids are migratory, live-bearing sharks of warm seas (sometimes of brackish or fresh water) and include some of the most familiar species, such as the Bull Shark, Lemon Shark, Blacktip Shark (image 2), and Whitetip Reef Shark. The large-bodied, striped Tiger Sharks (image 3) are the only living members of their family Galeocerdonidae. The most distinctive family in this order is possibly the Sphyrnids, the Hammerhead Sharks, which range from the omnivorous Bonnethead Shark to the bizarre Winghead Shark to the giant Great Hammerhead (gif below).

The Carcharhiniformes arose in the Middle Jurassic, and were morphologically similar to living catsharks. They did not attain their modern diversity of forms until the Late Cretaceous, and didn’t reach medium and large body sizes until the Cenozoic.

The Bonnethead Shark (Sphyrna tiburo), a small species of hammerhead, is the only shark known to be omnivorous. While it feeds on crustaceans, molluscs, and small fish, it also ingests large amounts of seagrass, which has been found to make up around 62% of gut content mass.

The "Swell Sharks" of the genus Cephaloscyllium have the curious ability to fill their stomachs with water or air when threatened, increasing their girth by a factor of one to three.

Some catsharks, such as the Chain Catshark (Scyliorhinus retifer), are biofluorescent.

The Slender Smooth-hound (Gollum attenuatus), is the only ground shark species known to exhibit intrauterine oophagy, in which developing fetuses are nourished by eggs produced by their mother. They will form egg capsules which contain 30-80 ova, within which only one ovum develops; the remaining ova are ingested and their yolks stored in its external yolk sac. The embryo then proceeds to develop normally, without ingesting further eggs.

The oddly shaped head of hammerhead sharks is called a cephalofoil, and is used for hunting. Numerous electroreceptory organs are located on the underside of the cephalofoil. The hammerhead will swing their head in broad angles over the sea floor to pick up the electrical signatures of stingrays buried in the sand. The cephalofoil also serves as a hydrofoil that allows the shark to quickly turn around and strike at a ray once detected. It may also pin it down with its head while pivoting to take a large bite from each side of the ray's pectoral fin disc.

The Tiger Shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) is one of the biggest predatory sharks, with exceptionally large females reaching over 5 m (16 ft 5 in). Males are much smaller, with only the largest getting up to 4 m (13 ft 1 in). They are apex predators and scavengers, with a reputation for eating almost anything. They are eaten by orcas and humans, also apex predators with a reputation for eating almost anything.

Tiger Sharks possess unique significance as ‘aumākua, revered as family guardians in Hawaiian culture. The tiger shark, regarded as an intelligent and highly perceptive spiritual entity, assumes the role of a messenger bridging the gap between humans and the divine.

During a 2015 expedition, an international team found two species of Carcharhiniform shark, along with microbial communities, living within the underwater crater of the active volcano Rejo te Kvachi, now informally dubbed “Sharkcano”. Using a baited drop camera, an international team observed Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrna lewini) and Silky Sharks (Carcharhinus falciformis) living in the hot, acidic water.

Many of the sharks in this order are endangered due to overfishing, both as bycatch and purposefully for shark fin soup. Critically endangered species include the Pondicherry Shark, Daggernose Shark, Great Hammerhead, Scalloped Hammerhead, Scalloped Bonnethead, Ganges Shark, Striped Smooth-hound, Oceanic Whitetip Shark, Borneo Shark, Whitefin Swellshark, and Whitefin Topeshark. The Lost Shark may already be extinct.
