One thing I’ll never forgive the Kaito Files for is replacing Yagami with a fruit basket. Like they shoulda done that differently. Like I dunno, just not telling him that Kaito nearly died until he gets home, and have him getting home well after the fact. And then like Higashi spills the beans or something and tells him what really happened. Like it could have been a yeah he got hurt but he’s okay kinda deal until way later when Yagami’s back and all seems right with the world, and then it’s like yeah we almost fucking lost him (all off camera because of course). Because there’s no FUCKING way he would have reacted to Kaito’s latest brush with death by giving him a fucking FRUIT BASKET. What the fuck? Like look back at how he has historically reacted to trauma, how he gets near fucking suicidal all these other times, and then tell me he wouldn’t have been full scale panicking. I mean, look at how he reacted to Kaito getting stabbed in the base game. He went off the fucking rails. He kidnapped a whole ass woman and used her to flush out Kuwana, then went and confronted the dangerous serial killer who is virtually his equal on his own. But yeah no sure he reacted in a perfectly reasonable manner and got the most important person in his life a get well soon fruit basket and fucked off to god knows where. That’s totally believable

We need a Judgement 3 because I need to simultaneously see Amasawa working as the intern at Yagami Detective Agency… causing trouble for everyone, while Jun keeps coming in to see his Dad like he owns the place, shadowing Kaito and Yagami…. And causing trouble for everyone 😂

I tried to work in some symbols, too. The dragon on his pec for protection and strength, a dagger stretching across his forearm and bicep for his gang, and a bat below his belly button.

Honestly, giving him a bat tattoo does have a lot of irony in it since they normally represent long life and good luck since….y’know. Apparently they can also represent darkness and fear, so ig it could be up for interpretation here lol.

Anyway I thought Akutsu was pretty interesting and I kinda wanted more of him :/

Today is Kuwana day for kind of a dark reason. 9-17 is the day Mitsuru Kusumoto jumped off the roof. Kuwana's chosen name is an allusion to this date. I'm not familiar enough with the Japanese language or Japanese names to go more in depth, but that's how it was explained to me. Hope this helps!

If I do remember correctly, Kuwana (depending on the Kanji) tends to mean something along the lines of accomplishment or success and honour.

However, his in particular (桑名) is like "given name" or family name. Which definitely makes sense in terms abt it being his alias.

So I wonder if it's like a double reference. Since he's honouring Mitsuru and it's his Alias.

I did, in fact, entirely forget the Japanese number system and didn't realise the link between pronunciation and the date 🙃

now for spoilies

i spent the last, like, 1/3rd of this game saying "but he's a serial killer" at my tv at every interaction with kuwana, like fym we "formed a truce" with him??? he killed 7 people???? but yagami couldnt give a fuck about any of those murders, he's literally only mad sawa died. genuinely wild that yagami's motivation for stopping kuwana is exclusively "his bullshit got sawa killed" and he only mentions the whole "serial killer" thing in passing a few times.

like kuwana has ostensibly sympathetic motives and obviously im not above liking characters that have done awful things, i guess i was put off by a combination of me finding him intensely unlikable + the contrast between yagami bringing up sawa's death at every opportunity and being borderline feral about it while not giving a flying fuck about the 7 people kuwana killed + yagami also being a lawyer and effectively on the side of the justice system, even if he admits its imperfect, and under that system, kuwana's murders are just as much a crime as soma killing sawa, a fact that he only brings up a handful of times.

anyway, the fact that i very much disliked kuwana and was wondering why tf we were trying so hard to protect/save him when he was, again, a SERIAL KILLER, really took me out of the back part of the game. still had a good time overall. also, the faces in the fully mocap'd cutscenes (i.e. the ones where you cant advance the text manually) looked fucking great, holy shit, they really jumped out at me in this one vs gaiden & y8, maybe because of the lighting choices
