My day job isn't usually terribly exciting, but sometimes I do get emails alerting me to the fact that someone has released a previously-thought-lost collection of erotic sea shanties. Enjoy, ye salty seamen!

On December 27th 1904 J M Barrie's play "Peter Pan" premiered at the Duke of York Theatre, London.
J.M. Barrie created his character based on his older brother, David, who died in an ice-skating accident the day before his 14th birthday. His mother and brother thought of him as forever a boy. The "boy who wouldn't grow up"
The story of free-spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mythical island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native Americans, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland.
Peter Pan has become a cultural icon symbolizing youthful innocence and escapism. In addition to two distinct works by Barrie, the character has been featured in a variety of media and merchandise, both adapting and expanding on Barrie's works. These include a 1953 animated film, a 2003 dramatic/live-action film, a television series and many other works.
J. M. Barrie first used Peter Pan 2 years before, as a character in a section of The Little White Bird, an adult novel where he appears as a seven-day-old baby in the chapter entitled Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. Following the success of the 1904 play, Barrie's publishers, Hodder and Stoughton, extracted chapters 13–18 of The Little White Bird and republished them in 1906 under the title Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, with the addition of illustrations by Arthur Rackham.
Barrie never described Peter's appearance in detail, even in his novel, leaving it to the imagination of the reader and the interpretation of anyone adapting the character. In the play, Peter's outfit is made of autumn leaves and cobwebs. His name and playing the flute or pipes suggest the mythological character Pan. Barrie mentions in Peter and Wendy that Peter Pan still had all his "first teeth".He describes him as a beautiful boy with a beautiful smile, "clad in skeleton leaves and the juices that flow from trees"
Traditionally, the character has been played on stage by a petite adult woman. In the original productions in the UK, Peter Pan's costume was a reddish tunic and dark green tights, such as that worn by Nina Boucicault in 1904. This costume is exhibited in Barrie's Birthplace museum at Kirriemuir.
In the Disney films, Peter wears an outfit that consists of a short-sleeved green tunic and tights apparently made of cloth, and a cap with a red feather in it. He has pointed elf-like ears, brown eyes and his hair is red. In Hook , the character is played as an adult by Robin Williams, with blue eyes and dark brown hair; in flashbacks to him in his youth, his hair is light brown. In this film his ears appear pointed only when he is Peter Pan, not as Peter Banning. His Pan attire resembles the Disney outfit (minus the cap). In the live-action 2003 Peter Pan film, he is portrayed by Jeremy Sumpter, who has blond hair and blue-green eyes. His outfit is made of leaves and vines.
Barrie commissioned a statue of Peter Pan by sculptor George Frampton which was erected overnight in Kensington Gardens on 30 April 1912 as a May Day surprise to the children of London. Seven statues have been cast from the original mould, they are in, Egmont Park, Brussels, Belgium, Bowring Park, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, Bowring Park, Johnson Park, Camden, New Jersey, USA, Queens Gardens, Perth, Western Australia, Sefton Park, Liverpool, and Glenn Gould Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Various other statues have appeared around the world, including three in Scotland, the first is at Mearnskirk Hospital for children in Glasgow, the first superintendent of the hospital, Dr John A Wilson, was a school friend of Barrie, the other one in Scotland is of course in Kirriemuir, one in the main town square and the other in the Peter Pan Garden by Barrie's Birthplace, now owned by the National Trust of Scotland.
The most famous of the other statues is at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, who JM Barrie gifted the rights to the play in 1929, the copyright first expired in the UK (and the rest of Europe) in 1987, 50 years after Barrie’s death, but the government of the day made an amendment to the copyright act giving Great Ormond Street Hospital the unique right to royalties from stage performances of Peter Pan (and any adaptation of the play) as well as from publications, audio books, ebooks, radio broadcasts and films of the story of Peter Pan, in perpetuity.

Once Upon a December 🖤
David/Crysta (OC)
Summary: Crysta has found true love with her darling Lost Boys. Little does she know that David in particular feels an extra special connection to her because of someone he knew long ago...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Surprise!! This is a birthday present for @hypocriticaltypwriter! Cherry, you've been such a wonderful friend, I thought you deserved something special! 🎁🎂🎉
This fic has references to the OC of @hypocriticaltypwriter, Crysta and the scrapped Lost Boys prequel script, of which there is a love interest for David. It also references the song from the animated movie/musical "Anastasia". Please enjoy!
Tumblr media
Crysta couldn't have been happier. She was living a good life with not one but four amazing, handsome, caring men. Though her lovers happened to be bloodthirsty vampires that sucked the essence from any human who crossed them, she didn't let that get in the way of her happiness.
Each of her boys was an absolute gem. So stunning and wonderful in their own unique ways. They treated her like a queen and took the best care of her. Being a human, she was seen as a more fragile, delicate being to them. The four boys would do anything to keep her safe and sound. Always making her feel loved.
Though she often had at least one of them by her side at all times, the daytime was when she was by herself. One day she'd be on the same sleep schedule as them, but for now, she could keep herself occupied during the day.
Whenever she wasn't working at the salon or running errands, Crysta’s favorite thing to do was dance. It was the perfect way for her to get in some exercise while having fun moving to the songs from her cassette collection. Today was no different. With her leotard and sheer sash around her waist, she was a dancing beauty.
Swing music was her favorite thing to dance to, but a good Prince song got her energy up too. Crysta kicked her legs up high and moved her hips to the rhythm of “When Doves Cry”. A smile was stuck on her beautiful face as she danced around the empty hideout. The music fueled her heart and soul, truly making her feel alive.
Before she knew it, the sun outside was fading. The day started to come to an end. The darkness would soon come, as would her boys. Surely they would be awoken by the sound and smell of her hot, pumping blood. They were such frisky things~
“Guess I'll pick something for a cooldown,” Crysta said to herself.
She shut off the Prince cassette and rummaged around the container for something slower to dance to. KISS, Def Leppard, Ratt, Poison, Twisted Sister. All too wild and fast for a proper cooldown to her workout. She was about to give up when something special caught her eye.
A simple cassette with a handwritten note on the cover. “1906” written in faded ink.
Crysta tilted her head in curiosity, studying the writing carefully. Was it supposed to be a year? That was when the hotel that once stood on the bluff crashed into the sea, leaving behind treasures to be lost or decayed within the cave the Lost Boys called home. If that was what it referred to, what did it have to do with a cassette?
“Only one way to find out.”
The redheaded girl stuck the cassette into the boombox, pressing the play button to see what music would await her.
To her surprise, it was the complete opposite of the boy's style. Rather than a loud electric guitar and killer drum solo, the soft sound of chimes greeted her ears. Crysta’s eyes widened as she took in the sound. It was quite magical. Soft notes that dazzled her senses. She felt it to be similar to that of a lullaby from a music box.
Stepping backward to where her dancing space was, Crysta started to take in the melody some more. Follow the rhythm as it went on. She could work with this. Her body began to move slowly as more instruments joined in. The soft tones of a flute, clarinet, bassoon and more. All of their sounds worked beautifully together as they welcomed in the lyrics to the song.
Dancing Bears
Painted Wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December
Crysta’s senses grew fuzzy as her body took over for the dance. She gravitated to a more ballet-style dance routine, gracefully gliding across the floor and swaying her hands in rhythm. One would think she was under a spell if they were to see her moving in such a way.
Little did she know that such a thing was actually happening.
In one corner of the main lobby of the sunken hotel, a tall, platinum-blond vampire stepped into view. David had awoken just a bit earlier than usual, eager to see his beloved human. The spurs of his boots clanged with each step, yet Crysta did not notice. She was far too focused on her dance. The lyrics guided her every movement.
Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully across my memory.
David was stuck in place, overcome with shock at hearing this song. Though he had managed to find a recording of it from a modern singer, there was a time decades ago when he had heard this song live. Visions of candelabras, string quartets, and marble statues filled his mind, bringing back the memory of the resort when it still stood above the sea.
His ice blue eyes were fixated on Crysta as the faded vision of someone he knew long ago began to take over. A lovely, dark-haired lady with a shy, yet sweet nature and soft lips that he had kissed when they were hidden away from prying eyes. His long-lost love.
His legs began to move again, carrying him to where Crysta danced. He feared the memory would slip away again if he did not go to her. The graceful movements of her dance had grown stronger as the music built up more and more. A choir sang out, filling the cave with an echo of vocals that would shake a man to his very core. Crysta was so deep within her dance that she nearly jumped in surprise when she turned to see David right behind her.
“David, you scared me!” she scolded. “What are you do-”
“Dance with me.”
Crysta was shocked by such a request. Her lashes fluttered and her eyebrow raised in curiosity.
“What?”
David’s lip curled slightly, showing off a gentleness in his smile that was unfamiliar to Crysta. No sneakiness or devious expressions. Just a look of love.
“I wonder if I might have a dance with the princess?”
Crysta would be lying if she said she wasn’t charmed by such words. Her cheeks flushed a light shade of pink and she smiled warmly back at the vampire. She slipped her hand into his, allowing David to take hold of her waist with his other.
“I’d be delighted.”
Someone holds me safe and warm.
Horses prance through a silver storm.
Figures dancing gracefully across my memory.
David and Crysta moved around the lobby with sheer grace. They danced in time, creating a perfect waltz together despite it being such an unfamiliar dance to the human girl. To David, it was like riding a bike. He never truly forgot how to do it. With Crysta as his dance partner, it was even easier. All he had to do was look into her eyes, and it all came back to him.
Without any hesitation, David leaned in to kiss her. The warmth of her skin made his head spin far more than any waltz could. He remembered a similar kiss behind a ballroom pillar, hiding away from a stern chaperone. Now, with colder skin from his inhuman nature, it was all so much more intense. His heart ached deep within his chest.
Far away,
Long ago,
Glowing dim as an ember,
Things my heart
Used to know
Things it yearns to remember
“You are the beautiful something I dreamed about, Anastasia.”
The spell David and the music had over her was broken, and Crysta looked up at the blond with confusion on her face.
“Why’d you say my middle name?”
David stopped the waltz once the gravity of his mistake hit him. In the blink of an eye, the vision was gone. The memory had faded away. No longer did he have a princess in his arms dancing in a ballroom. The age and decay and quietness of the cave overwhelmed his senses, making him realize how much time had passed since he had become a vampire.
And Crysta. God, did he feel guilty for his slip of the tongue. Looking at her pretty face, he did see a familiarity of his first ever love. She looked so much like Anastasia. Even the shade of her eyes was identical, as it was something he had studied carefully each time they were together.
But she wasn’t Anastasia. She was Crysta. She was her own person, not the ghost of someone he once knew. David would forever mourn her, yet he knew how truly lucky he was to have Crysta by his side here and now. He loved her more than anything, and he wanted a life with her and his boys. It wouldn’t be fair to her to get lost in the past.
“I’m sorry, Cherri,” he cooed, taking hold of her cheek in his hand. “I think I’ve been around Max too much. I know he calls you that all of the time.”
Crysta let out a snort of laughter, amused by David.
“Oh God, don’t tell me you’re turning into a big nerd too, Davi!”
David laughed, bringing her in for an embrace and spinning her around once again. She squealed with delight as he lifted her up. The two of them were practically giddy with their playfulness.
“I’m not changin’ at all,” he promised, setting her back down on her feet. “Now let’s go wake up the others so we can grab a bite to eat.”
Crysta eagerly wrapped her hands around his arm, allowing him to lead the way to the sleeping chambers of the boys. With them out of sight, the last few words of the song played for nobody to hear.
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Dormarth - Day 105
Race: Beast
Alignment: Dark-Neutral
September 6th, 2024
Tumblr media
Many mythological dogs fall into a set of strangely similar tropes, even beyond just the idea of them having multiple heads, as observed in the Orthrus analysis. One that I find particularly interesting, though, has to be in their common connections to death. Likely stemming from how dogs were, and still are, seen as intrinsically connected to hunting, many dogs in mythology are connected to death, the spiritual realm, and many such things. We've already seen this with the Inugami analysis earlier this week, but another curious example, and a personal favorite of mine, has to be in the Celtic Wild Hunt's goodest boy, Dormarth.
While the Wild Hunt is a demon itself in SMT, its intrinsic connection to death and the afterlife makes it a very curious topic in connection to Dormarth, also known as Dormarch, a hunting hound that joins in during said hunt. Originating in Wales, Dormarth is a beast that accompanies the riders during the Welsh version of the Wild Hunt. The Wild Hunt itself is a common motif throughout many different European mythologies and cultures, with many cultures offering their own spins on the general concept. This, naturally, leads to differing figures throughout the recurring motif, and the Welsh version has its own fair share of unique ideas, with one of them being the collection of souls of warriors to join in on the hunt, and who else does that collection than Dormarth?
The games' recollections of Dormarth are somewhat inaccurate, from what I can tell- for the most part, they paint the dog as being a guardian of the Celtic version of hell, but most actual historical references of Dormarth seem to split that between many other concepts regarding death and the afterlife. In fact, we don't really know much about Dormarth, given that the dog only appears in one passage throughout old Welsh literature, being in The Black Book of Carmarthen. The name Dormarth is also rather controversial, as the original text is somewhat fragmented, missing a letter in the name that could be either Dormarch or Dormarth, both of which carrying wholly different meanings. To quote the only reference we actually have of Dormarth,
My hound is sleek and fair, The best of hounds; Dormach he is, who was with Maelgwn. Dormach rednose – why stare you so? Because I cannot comprehend Your wanderings in the firmament.
A lot of controversy has surrounded Dormarth for years, but that's beside the point. Dormarth, as a name, seems to roughly translate to mean an 'embodiment of death,' giving light to the idea of Dormarth being just that. Combine that with Dormarth's connection to the dead due to being in the Wild Hunt, a hunt made up entirely of spirits, and one can easily draw a connection between it and Cerberus or other such guard dogs of the underworld. On top of this, though, its connection to death may also be it guiding lost souls to the underworld, or even collecting dead warriors to join in on the Wild Hunt. Language is fun like that, no?
Given that its natural habitat is described as being 'among the clouds,' being associated with the Wild Hunt, it's commonly believed that Dormarth accompanies the Wild Hunt, and observations in the Black Book of Carmarthen by one John Gwenogvryn Evans in 1906 seem to also give a physical description of the hound as being a two-legged dog with swirling fish tails behind it. Its overall role is rather unclear, as I've gone over in extensive detail, but Dormarth does seem to play a rather interesting role in the Wild Hunt overall, whether it be a guardian of the gates of Annwn (the Welsh underworld) or a hunting dog that accompanies the Wild Hunt, to even one that collects new hunters for it. With all of that, though, how's it portrayed in SMT?
I love Dormarth's design, but given everything related to the dog, it's really hard to see where a lot of the elements came from. Like, come on, where's the fish tail? Where are the only two front legs? Why is she bipedal, and why is she a girl? As strange as it is for a Dormarth design, though, I do like how it looks. She is incredibly gender, and I like the spike collar- it plays well into the whole themes of death- and helmet, which ties her (though vaguely) to the Wild Hunt. Overall, a pretty good design, though not one I quite understand for the hound of the hunt.

hiii its @neathyingenue!! just gonna go ahead and admit i am hazy on some of harb's details. this is an au for beverley yeah? or is it him in the future
Hello my good friend MJ Neathyingenue!! Dw about it I’ve actually been meaning to make a semi-formal summary on him so!
The Scintillating Harbinger is the Sunless Skies AU of Beverley, so yeah technically it’s him in the future (the wonderful year of 1906), but also it’s not the only possibility of him in the futures. Thankfully.
In the Sunless Skies AU, Beverley’s search in London failed due to Shaw’s machinations (and boy howdy did he do some shit). He never found his Dawnlight suitcase bomb - but more importantly, he never found out that B survived the shipwreck they disappeared in. He left London assuming his life’s work and his best friend were both lost to the waves, and threw himself into his work as a means to cope. It helps up until it doesn’t, and then he gets weird about the New Sun to cope.
Fast forward a couple years, and he’s risen through the ranks enough to be working on the Clockwork Sun personally, and rises to the Skies with the rest of the New Sequence. Surprisingly (or maybe unsurprisingly) leaving his home and the only world he’s ever known Doesn’t help Beverley’s mental health. So he doubles down on his love for the sun - this is when the idea that he’s given up everything for it really becomes mission critical.
And then the Clockwork Sun starts glassing/Dazzling the senior engineers. By the time it’s Bev’s turn he’s kind of a mess. Insert the fic I just wrote here, where he manages to stall out his own death with a combination of blind faith and mastery of the Correspondance, binding bits of metal to his glassy side to make it usable. However this has horrible effects on his sanity and overall health, he’s in constant pain and isn’t even really aware of that fact anymore due to being high on that sunny supply.
In my mind, Beverley’s become to the Logoi as the Clockwork Sun is to a Judgement. He’s just stuck in a (somewhat) human body. Right now at least. That’s part of why everything on his ship is - effectively - bound to live in time with his machinery.
Now with insane levels of… everything, he doubles down into his work of making Judgement Light powered weaponry, a speciality that gets him Victoria’s attention. Bev even starts bending the trapping of Other Judgements to make his weapons of mass destruction like the Icarus looking ass he is. For stellar service during the Winchester War (read: war crimes), he was awarded both the Victoria Cross and a dubious position of importance. Legally he’s a captain (despite having way more functional power) of a research Locomotive, the Deliverance, not a war engine. He just… has permission to test the creations on board on enemies of the empire! That’s all!
He’s also still dying due to the damage to his body, but he doesn’t really care he’s got other things to worry about :)
The actual story of him involves his encounters with Shaw’s son, Everett, who he… really doesn’t like, considering his history with Shaw in this AU.
That’s the TL;DR!

Bring Me To Life (Excerpt from Chapter One)
Tumblr media
"You are Nikolai Galdin, a servant of the House of Rostov which is the current reigning house. I am Princess Anastasia Rostov, and we are currently residing at the Santa Carla Hotel and Casino. I am visiting before becoming queen, you have been working for my family since you were young, and you have a sister, Tatyana Galdin who is a young girl who I took under my wing because you asked." She spoke softly, kindly. "Has the sickness hit you, my love?"
"My love?" Nikolai? That wasn't your name, you were Y/N, just Y/N.
"We have been in a secret relationship for years, since you turned 13 and I, 14. You are now 19 and I am now 20. We cannot marry because of status-"
"Did you say Santa Carla?" Like the movies? Like The Lost Boys? Santa Carla wasn't a real place, so why was this all happening? Then you had remembered when you did a deep dive one night.
This was oddly reminding you of a certain prequel that was never made, and suddenly you had to question if you were dead.
But Anastasia leaned in and kissed you, lightly biting your bottom lip and tugging gently and that slight pain reminded you that somehow, this was all real.
"What year is it?"
"1906."
Oh shit.

The Unfortunate Story of Ed Gein
Ed Gein was born in Wisconsin on August 27, 1906. He had one older brother named Harry. His parents' names were Philip and Augusta Gein. Unfortunately there was a lot of turmoil in the Gein's marriage. Philip was an alcoholic who hopped from job to job, and Augusta resented him for it.
In later years, the Gein family relocated to a 155 acre farm in Plainfield, Wisconsin. Augusta never allowed visitors to the family farm for fear that they would corrupt her sons. The boys only left the farm to attend school. Their free time was spent doing chores.
Augusta was a strongly devout Lutheran. She often preached to her children about the immorality of the world around them. She often read to the boys from the darkest parts of The Old Testament.
Ed grew into a very shy young man. His teachers and peers thought of him as weird. Any time he started to make friends, he would be punished by his mother.
Although he suffered from poor social development, he did well in school, especially in reading.
Tumblr media
Ed's father died on April 1, 1940 due to heart failure caused by his alcoholism. He was 66 years old. To help their mother with living expenses, Ed and Henry began doing odd jobs around town. Ed frequently babysat for his neighbors. He really enjoyed this because he claimed to relate more to children than adults.
Henry later began dating a divorced single mom of 2 children. The two planned to move in together. Henry soon started to worry about Ed and his attachment to their mother. He would often speak badly of her around Ed which hurt him greatly.
On May 16, 1944 the two men were burning away vegetation on their property when the fire got out of control. The fire caught the attention of local firefighters who shortly arrived to put out the flames. After the fire was sequestered, Ed reported his brother Henry missing.
A search party found Henry's body lying face down. He had been dead for some time when he was found. His initial cause of death was ruled as heart failure. He wasn't burned but had a bruise on his head.
Police initially believed that there was no foul play involved, so there was no further investigation. The coroner ultimately ruled his cause of death to be asphyxiation. Many people suspected Ed of being involved in his brother's death.
After Henry's death, Augusta suffered from a stroke, and suffered another shortly afterwards. Her health began to rapidly deteriorate, and she died on December 29, 1945. Ed was devastated. He was quoted saying that he "lost his only friend and one true love. And he was absolutely alone in the world."
Tumblr media
After his mother's death, Ed continued to work on the family farm. He boarded up the areas of the house where his mother spent the most time: upstairs, the downstairs parlor, and the living room. Those areas remained in pristine condition while he allowed the rest of the house to become trashed. Ed mostly remained in a small room next to the kitchen. He spent a lot of free time reading magazines and adventure stories about nazis and cannibals.
Ed earned extra money by continuing to work as a handyman and doing odd jobs here and there. He also received a farm subsidy from the government. However, by 1956 he had sold 80 acres of his land.
Tumblr media
On November 16, 1957 a Plainfield hardware store owner named Bernice Wooden disappeared. A witness saw her car leaving the store at around 9:30 am. Citizens found it strange that the store was closed all day. Bernice's son Frank, who happened to be the sheriff, walked into the store at around 5 pm. He walked in to find the register wide open and blood stains on the floor. He told investigators that Ed had been in the store the night before the incident. He also returned the day of the incident to get a gallon of antifreeze. The receipt for this transaction was the last transaction recorded by Bernice. Ed was arrested later that night at a local grocery store. This also gave the police enough probably cause to search Ed's farm.
A deputy discovered Bernice's decapitated body in Ed's shed. She had been hung upside down by her legs with a crossbar. She also had ropes around her wrist. Her torso was described as, "dressed out like a deer." Her cause of death was a gunshot wound. The mutilations to her body took place postmortem.
This was only the beginning of the horror that authorities uncovered on Ed's property. Police found: human bone fragments, a wastebasket made out of skin, human skin furniture coverings, skulls on his bedposts, bowls made from skulls, a corset made from skin, leggings made from skin, masks made from skin, Bernice's head in a sack, her heart in a plastic bag near the stove, nine vulvae in a shoebox, a belt made from human nipples, four noses, a pair of lips on a window's drawstring, and a lampshade made from a human face. These items were photographed at the state crime lab before they were ultimately destroyed.
Ed admitted to robbing several graveyards between 1947 and 1956 to exhume bodies that had been recently buried. He stated that he was in a trance like state during his visits, sometimes waking up in the moment and returning home empty handed. He preferred to dig up women who resembled his mother. He took the bodies home to tan their skin which he would then use to make into different household objects. Ed later led investigators to all the burial sites that he disturbed. Two of those graves were found to be empty.
Ed's ultimate goal was to make a "woman suit" out of human flesh. He wanted to literally become his late mother. One of the gruesome objects found on Ed's property was the head of tavern owner Mary Hogan. Ed admitted to shooting her but denied any further memories of her death.
A young witness reported to police that he believed Ed kept shrunken heads in his house. Ed corroborated this, but said they were ancient relics from the Philippines. Police later determined that these were human faces from Ed's victims which he used as masks.
Ed's confession was ultimately ruled as inadmissible due to him being assaulted by a police officer during his interrogation. The officer repeatedly banged Ed's head against a wall.
Tumblr media
Ed's trial began on November 21, 1957. He was arraigned on 1 count of first degree murder which he pled not guilty by reason of insanity to. Ed had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and he was hoping to use his diagnosis to his advantage. He was ultimately found mentally incompetent and was not deemed fit for trial. He was sent to the Central State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. He was later transferred to the Mendota State Hospital in Wisconsin.
It wasn't until doctors reevaluated Ed in 1968 that he was found to be able to participate in his own defense. His trial began on November 7, 1968. The trial lasted for one week. At first Ed tried to play Bernice's death off as an unmeditated accident, but couldn't remember any other details about the day in question.
Ed's defense requested that his trial not be presented to a jury, so it was only a judge there to try to convince of his innocence. Judge Robert Gollmar found Ed guilty on November 14th. There was a second trial held to try to determine Ed's sanity where the same judge ruled that Ed was not guilty by reason of insanity, again. He was admitted to a mental institution. Ed remained in mental institutions for the rest of his life.
Tumblr media
Ed's property was appraised at $4,700. This is the equivalent to over $42,000 today. His possessions were sent to auction on March 30, 1958. Due to rumors that the house would be turned into a morbid tourist attraction, it mysteriously burned down on March 20th. The fire was determined to be a "rubbish fire" that was set about 75 feet away from the house. Arson was reasonably suspected, but the potential arsonist was never uncovered. When Ed was given the news about his house, he was fairly unbothered.
Ed's car that he used to transport bodies was sold at auction for $760. This is the equivalent to over $6,700 today. The car was bought by a carnival sideshow operator. He charged the public 25 cents a pop to see it.
Tumblr media
Ed Gein died in the Mendola Mental Institue on July 26,1984 due to complications from lung cancer. For many years, people slowly chipped away pieces of his headstone. The entire stone was stolen in 2000. It was later found in Seattle in June 2001. It was ultimately placed in storage. His grave remains unmarked but not unknown. He is buried between his mother and his brother.
Tumblr media
Ed Gein's story has had a large influence in modern day pop culture. Many films had antagonists that were based on Ed such as: Psycho, House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, American Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Many TV shows also used Ed's likeness such as American Horror Story and Bates Motel.

You know what’s my biggest literary pet peeve?
Peter Pan was originally a play that debuted in 1904. J.M. Barrie first published a prequel to that story as a novel in 1906 called Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens. The Peter Pan story we know and love, where Wendy and her brothers fly with him to Neverland and meet the Lost Boys and Captain Hook, was first published in novel form in 1911 as Peter and Wendy.
I get that the best known Peter Pan story began as a play with that title, one that the Disney movie and subsequent live-action adaptations popularized.
But if you’re gonna keep reprinting and republishing that story as a novel, it should be published as Peter and Wendy, not Peter Pan. I had to read both Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens and Peter and Wendy for a class in college, and this has bothered me ever since.

Movies I watched this week (#172):
"May I watch you eat?"
The taste of things is the latest French 'Food-porn' movie, following the recipe of so many before it, and paying homage especially to 'Babette's Feast', with Juliette Binoche playing the simple cook Stéphane Audran in a similar style. They knew what they were doing, romanticizing the 'olde thyme' vision of culinary bliss, making it like a summertime Renoir tableaux [but without any of the dozens of assistants needed to chop the wood, peel the potatoes, pluck the geese, and do the dishes]. Food as love.
I saw it on the same day I read this article about 'The Hottest Restaurant in France', which got me in the mood.
🍿
"I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Please forgive me..."
Samsara is not Ron Flicke's film of the same name (him of the The Qatsi Trilogy). But this 2023 film too is a meditative, spiritual essay about life, death and change. It specifically tells about the Buddhist idea of re-incarnation.
Like the Italian poem 'Le quattro volte' it transforms the philosophical concept of 'Bardo' into a visual story about a bed-ridden old Laotian woman who turns into a new-born goat in Africa after her death. And like Philip Gröning's patient 'Into Great Silence', it follows the simple life in a monastery, quietly and poetically. (Photo Above).
It tells two separate stories: A young boy reads from 'The Tibetan book of the Dead' to a dying woman in a village in Laos. And exactly at midpoint, there's an unexplained, abstract 2001 "Star Gate" light show, where the (Spanish) director asks the audience to close their eyes, and get lost in the vortex with her for about 15 minutes. Long stretch of strobe lights and strange dead sounds, as her soul travels though the afterlife into new birth. Then her spirit transmutes into an another form, as a pet goat for a young Muslim girl in Zanzibar. It's a fragile, silent and unfocused vision about the circle of life.
🍿
Thoroughbreds, my second unsettling thriller by Cory Finley (after 'Bad Education'), his accomplished debut feature. It tells of two rich, psychopathic Connecticut girls who scheme to murder, a-la Raskolnikov, the mean father of the richer one. Terrific direction choices and well-made execution, but I can't stand the young, unlikable actresses (and actors!), and their emotionally-stunted upper-class coldness left me cold too.
I loved JunePictures's lovely animated logo at the beginning!
🍿
Invention for Destruction, a Jules Verne steampunk'ish adventure fable. It was made by Karel Zeman, the "Czech Méliès", in 1958, and is considered "the most successful film in the history of Czech cinema". It's a fantasy sci-fi story that includes rollerskating camels, underwater biking pirates, a giant man-eating octopus, submarines with duck-foot paddles, Etc. It mixes real-life acting with special effect Victorian engravings and animation, including traditional, cut-out, and stop-motion, along with miniature effects and matte paintings. 4/10.
🍿
2 by French feminist Germaine Dulac:
🍿 Dulac was a radical, impressionist, avant-garde film-maker who had made ground-breaking surrealist silent films even before Buñuel and Dalí made 'The Andalusian Dog'.
The Smiling Madame Beudet (1923) is a strong feminist story of an intelligent woman unhappily married who's dreaming of killing her boorish husband. It includes a literal Chekhov's gun. [*Female Director*].
🍿 The Seashell and the Clergyman is based on an experimental story by avant-garde artist Antonin Artaud. A year before 'Un Chien Andalou', it's just as opaque & untamed. Anybody interested in early Buñuel, should visit her films. It's about the "erotic hallucinations of a priest lusting after the wife of a general." Distorted images, bizarre fantasies, impolite subversions... [*Female Director*].
🍿
Another silent era classic, made by a towering pioneer, Alice Guy Blaché's 1906 The Life of Christ. [On IMDb, Alice Guy is credited with directing 464 (!) films, producing 32 and writing 18!]. Composed of 25 individual tableaux, telling of mostly his last days, and noted for her focus on his mostly women followers. The poor baby who had to play Jesus in the manger!... [*Female Director*].
🍿
Crack-up, a confusing 1946 Film Noir, made by a second-rated director, with a terrible script and bad acting all around, including the miscast Pat O'Brien. A stolen art piece, not up to 'The Maltese Falcon' levels. 2/10.
🍿
"I was drugged and left for dead in Mexico, and all I got was this stupid T shirt."
A single re-watch this week: the sophisticated mystery The Game, again♻️. Still my favorite David Fincher film, even more than 'The social Network'. With the magnificent Memory montage opening, which was also copied successfully by the show 'Succession'. Chasing a "White Rabbit", a birthday present to remember...
🍿
2 more selections from the US National Film Registry:
🍿 I am somebody is a 1970 documentary about a strike by 400 black hospital employees (all but 12 women) for better pay in Charleston, South Carolina. Racist discrimination against poor blacks in Amerika is so appalling and so deep, it's hard to watch. The fight for equality and civil rights never ended. 9/10. [*Female Director*].
🍿 Jammin' the Blues is a 1944 Warner Bros. jazz short featuring Lester Young and (new to me) singer Marie Bryant. Oscar nominated in 1944. 'Smokin'!
🍿
I used to really like British magician Darren Brown, and saw many of his shows. Pushed to the edge (2016) is a disturbing experiment in social compliance, a-la Stanley Milgram, taken to the extreme. With dubious morality, he manipulates an unsuspecting guy to push another man from the roof of a building. But the more elaborate the set up, the more uncomfortable it is to watch it.
🍿
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, a lame, loud, shallow music mockumentary by The Lonely Island. It had only one good number, "Fucked Bin Ladin" (which came at 46:00, exactly one hour before the end, so they did follow some script writing rules after all..) and about one million celebrity cameos, including Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. 2/10.
🍿
In They're Made Out Of Meat (2005) two aliens meet in a night Diner. One of them tell the other, dressed in St. Pepper-type uniform that he discovers that all people on this planet are "made out of meat". It's a cute concept, but that's the whole thing, and there's not more to it.
RIP, Terry Bisson!
🍿
Semiotics of the Kitchen was an angry installation piece by artist Martha Rosler, at the heights of the second wave feminism years (1975). A parody of a cooking show, where the host gets more and more agitated. [*Female Director*].
🍿

Thinking random thoughts about the filmmakers’ decision not to give any of the vampires explicit backstories in The Lost Boys and the show vs. tell element of storytelling:
- They wanted the viewer to be drawn in by the vampires but to ultimately not root for them. A futle endeavour of course, but that was the intent imho. Joel Schumacher went out of his way to add the beach massacre because he thought audiences would like the vampires too much - AND HE WAS CORRECT lol
- They also wanted to keep up the mystery. The way the film is shot during the attack scenes through vampire POV is intended to keep a distance and build suspense. The vampires are meant to be something Other, and knowing too much about them would go against this.
Marko and Paul have barely any dialogue. The only reason people know Dwayne’s name is because of the credits. Joel himself points out that David has the least amount of dialogue of the three main characters (which he considered as Michael, Star and David, despite the meagre size of Star’s role). This is again, done deliberately for the cool guy mystique
- We do get glimpses of backstory and characterisation through costuming, setpieces and (less so) through dialogue. David implying that he was familiar with the hotel before the 1906 earthquake is about as subtle as a brick to the face.
So yes, deliberate storytelling decisions there. I quite like it, it gives a lot of creative freedom. But I do understand the frustration too. As I always say:
This is why we have fanfic.

A Witch’s Slumber
Chapter 3
The Lost Boys x Oc
Tumblr media
David stared at the girl struggling to stand up due to the lack of movement and glass cutting her foot. Paul stood up aiding her by helping her stand and her arm around his shoulder.
“Who are you? How long was I asleep?” Seems like reality was starting to set in with her looking at them and around herself. “That depends when did you fall asleep?” Dwayne asked not sure whether to fully reveal themselves yet, not knowing anything about her aside her affiliation with Max.
She hesitated to answer, not sure if she’d like their response but needed to know. “1905…what year is it now?”
All 4 looking at each other and looking back at her, Dwayne answered for them. “It’s 1986, you’ve been asleep for almost 81 years.”
Paul felt her hand grip his jacket,he saw the shocked and disbelief look on her face. The pained look she had as she felt everything caving, feeling her insides twist and her chest tighten. She didn’t want to believe them, no one would want to believe their life had gone on without them.
“No…no that can’t be right, if that’s true then…”A sudden thought hit her but she didn’t want to finish her sentence, david however want to know. “Then what? You’re awake now.” Without any empathy or care for the girl. She stayed quiet for a few moments before she let go of Paul to try standing on her own only to stagger and grab onto the door frame. Marko ready to catch her if she fell, a little amused at her attempt. “Might wanna be careful, colomba”
Dwayne being first to reach out incase she fell, the smell of copper from her wound was starting to get stronger. “Least bandage that up first before you put weight on it.”
“I’m fin…” Interrupted by the brunette picking her up bridal style and taking her to the bathroom to find first aid kit. David was already anxious about being there and now whoever this girl was out of her prison from Max, he would not take the fall for this.
Dwayne helped her pick out the shards of glass as Marko and Paul stood by the doorway, David not wanting anything to assist stood at the bottom of the staircase watching the window for Max’s car.
Paul held his curiosity long enough and wanted to ask so many questions but didn’t know where to start. Why was she there? Who is she?what is she? Does she know max in some way? Too many to ask except for one simple one. “What’s your name, sugar?”
She refused to answer still wary of them and their motives, looking at the three in front of them asking them a question. “Are you going to leave me here?” To which they didn’t have the answer to, they either left her risking Max finding out through her or they take her and Max going on a hunt for her leading straight back to them. For a moment they all look at each other looking for an answer til David popped his head by the bathroom door.
“Of course we’re not gonna leave you here, kitten. We love new friends, especially a blast from the past” A smirk drew across David’s face while looking at the girls face for any sign of relaxation or trust, but instead he found a tensed neutral expression.
“Is the Atlantis Hotel still around?”
“No, well not exactly it sunk in the 1906 earthquake a year after you were put to sleep. But! We can easily take ya to it.”
The boys were a little confused at David’s sudden need to help her but went along with it with sinister intentions. Finally introducing themselves give her some sense of comfort from her new strange friends Paul being the last to introduce himself and holding his hand out to her. “Do we get to know your name now, sugar?”
“It’s Nani” Taking his hand hesitantly while following them outside to their bikes, needing a few minutes of convincing to get on Paul’s bike, no option but to go along with it went into the lights of Santa Clara.
Marko driving behind Paul and Nani saw the look of amazement and shine in her eyes as she took in how almost 100 years had changed since her slumber, he thought of how cute she looked, smiling to himself. He wanted to show her more to keep that smile there, for now they would take her to their home. Something about her amazed expression made Marko feel a sense of pride so when they were getting farther from the lights and city to their cave seeing her expression fade, hiding her face into Paul’s jacket stung a bit. They stopped at the cliffs edge, Dwayne helping Nani off Paul’s bike noticing she had been staring at the sky and its full moon. “Beautiful huh?”
“Yes, I’ve spent so long in the dark I’ve almost forgotten what it looked like…”
David gently taking her hand and giving off soothing feel. “Stare all you want but you see double the stars in the ocean” he declared as he walked Nani closer the edge.
“Sorry kitten.”
“What?”
“David!” Dwayne called out as David shoved Nani off the side the cliff without a second thought. “That’s that.” David said with full confidence turn around to his vampire companions. “If her body’s still there well toss it somewhere max can’t lead it back to….” Interrupted by a gust of wind and loud thud that shook the ground behind David, heavy breathing of a beast accompanied with a large shadow hovering over him. This creature stood at a 8ft tall compare to the boys, large dark feathered wings and a body to match, its legs shaped as an owl’s talons. A clawed hand grabbed David by the collar, ready to fight David showed his vampiric face to greet this feathered beast’s eyes. The face of Nani, feathers meeting the boarder of her face with smaller feathers across her under eyes, eyes now black with only the moon light to show any shine.
“My suspicions were right about you. I knew I recognized that stench, you’re Max’s underlings.” Nani spat with venom and tossed David to the sandy ground, looking at the rest of the boys who were ready to pounce but still in shock of what stood before them.“However you’re not what I’m after nor that bastard old man.”
David let out a sinister laugh while lying on the ground slowly levitating upwards. “So this is why he kept you alive! I fucken knew there just had to be somethin about you kitten!or should I call you something else, bird brains?”
Nani ignored his mocking as she turned to the entrance only for David to land in front of her denying her exit. “What’s in the cave that we don’t know about? I mean it is our home so think we should know first, right boys?” Flashing a smug smirk as the rest laughed
“Come on please, sugar?” Paul joined in on the mocking, still Nani didn’t waver.
She looked at them, eyeing each as she decided her next move until suddenly grabbing Marko and tossing him off the side of the cliff and flew after him. Marko out of shock screamed trying to fly again hearing his brother scream his name only to be caught by a soft body, looking up to see Nani and began to struggle.
“ oh stop that.” Forcing him to wrap his legs around her waist and arms around her and gave a final look at the curly blond “Hold on.”
Marko confused and now annoyed tried to take a bite only for her to cover his mouth and she flew upwards to the starry sky. David and the others gave chase only to lose them in the clouds, pausing for a minute to look around. Marko tried to scream only to be muffed by Nani’s hand, looking down at him and back at the clouds at the rest of the boys spotting her, she gave him an apologetic look. She let go of markos mouth to cover his right ear and using her chest to cover his left as she lets out a finger whistle. It was alarmingly loud to the point their ears were ringing not only that it caused some distance between her and the rest of the boys as if a force slammed them mid air away from her. David just about had enough of this bird woman and rushed behind her as she flew close to the ocean surface. Paul catching up on her right and Dwayne on her left, laughing and mocking her until she flew under the water with Marko. Turning back up behind them whipping Marko at them causing them to crash into the dark waters.
“…that’s that.” Repeating David’s word as she flies back to the cave and began her search for what she had came there for.
The four resurfaced from the waters levitating back into the air. David feeling a rush of energy, wanting to get rid of her painfully in the funnest way possible “So what should we do with our feathered friend.” Paul answered “I kinda wanna keep her! Marko how’d the ride fee…” Marko punched his shoulder before he could finish and laughed “I don’t mind having another pigeon.” while Dwayne smirked. David once again annoyed by his brothers, his word’s misunderstood. With that they flew home finding Nani running her hand across the walls caves and what’s left of the hotel while looking all round.
“Find anything interesting yet?” David shouted as they climbed into their cave trying to mock the bird woman only to be ignored. They watched her curiously and quietly chuckling at her strange behavior. Nani stopped feeling for walls to look at the lay out of the cave, she preceded to do another finger whistle while keeping her distance from the boys. Her attention snapping to a craw space that led to the boy’s resting area, without any hesitation crawled threw and the four vampires following her behind. There they find her standing at a dead end feeling the wall until taking a strike at it causing the end to reveal a cavern of the rest of the sunken hotel. The building had been destroyed but by some miracle half of it still stood with most of its rooms left untouched.
“Well would ya look at that.” David looking amazed at the structure that was left behind, they had suspicions about what was left but didn’t want the cave to sink in on its self so left it be. Marko immediately ran into their new cavern resort wooing Paul later joking and laughing with him and Dwayne looking at Nani still in shock of the power strike she inflicted.
“Haven’t seen this place since it went to hell!”Marko yelled out while running all over the place. “This what you were after?” Paul messing with items left behind by guest years ago.
“No.” Her answer was simple and she stared at the area until she found a room with the numbers 64 ,opening it without hesitation. The room was no different from the rest aside from being the least damaged. “I used to buy this room out when I wanted to get away from Max, least for a limited time.” Nani pulled out a trunk from the closet, opening it to reveal clothing, trinkets, books and a single wood carving of a mouse, which Marko took interest too very quickly.
“Oh! Can I have that?!” He nearly lunged at the feathered woman but was stopped when she stood and lifted her arm up to keep the carving away from the curly blonde even if she was taller in her bird form.
“No you can not just have it!”She scolded as she pricked her thumb and rubbed her drop of blood across the mouse’s forehead. “Klaus awaken I need your assistance.” The boys watched in awe as the carving started to slowly move and turn into a real jumping mouse in her hand. “Aww I’ve missed you my friend.” Nani planted a kiss on Klaus’s head and apologized for being gone so long.
“So what are you? A witch?”David asked watching her closely.
“Yes, I supposed I am or close to one.” Nani answered not really sure with her answer as she slowly shifted back into her normal self.
David wanted answers to the few lingering questions and thought it was time to get them. “Alright then miss witch, time you start answering our questions, you say we helped you out of that coffin least you could do is answer us.”
“Alright that seems reasonable.”Keeping Klaus away from Marko and walking the boys back to their part of the cave to sit and talk.
Across town Max had come home from closing shop to hear the heart monitor flat and smell of blood, upstairs finding glass across the floor and the photo that started this mess.
“Seems my little owl is out. Let’s find out for how long Nani.” Crushing the photo in his hand.

Marie Curie (1867-1934) Noble Prize in both Physics and Chemistry, Discovered Polonium & Radium
Tumblr media
Maria Salomea Sklodowska was born in Warsaw, Poland on November 7th, 1867. Being the youngest of 5 children and her parents both being teachers, their living circumstances were rough due to the family losing their money and land during the Polish national uprisings, specifically the January Uprising of 1863. Despite these shortcomings, Maria and her family did their best to survive and peruse academics. Her father Wladyslaw taught physics and math, but due to the Russians eliminating laboratory schools he taught Maria and the others at their home. Wladyslaw lost his job, and bad investing left the family no choice but to house lodging boys for an income. Her mother Bronislawa died of Tuberculosis in 1878, Maria was just 10 years old. She started attending a boarding school shortly after, and once she left the school her oldest sibling died of typhus. She became a governess as her father could not support her anymore, and due to her being a woman she could not peruse a higher education in Poland.  Her sister Bronislawa married a Polish physician and they offered Maria to come to Paris with them. She agreed but did not have the funds to pursue an education there, so she continued working as a governess and tutor into she finally managed to move to Paris in 1891.
She enrolled at Sorbonne University studying mathematics and physics, and meet her husband Pierre Curie a physics professor in 1894, they got married and Maria adopted the French localization of her name Marie, her name now being Marie Curie. The two shared a deep passion for learning, the both of them became researchers at the School of Chemistry and Physics in Paris. Together they researched uranium's invisible rays, which lead Marie to become interested in radioactivity. She found that Pitchblende, a mineral with uranium in it was more radioactive than uranium itself, which lead to her discovering a completely new chemical element. Using this mineral and dissolving it in acid allowed the different elements to separate, which is how she found the element Polonium. Besides polonium, she also discovered a liquid that separated from the Pitchblende, another new element. Pierre and Marie published their findings and called this new element radium. Due to the both of them working with chemicals, they both fell ill from radiation sickness, despite this Marie went on to get her Doctorate in Science in 1903. She also was awarded a Noble Prize in Physics the same year for her discoveries and later another Noble Prize in Chemistry for her work with radium in 1911. With Pierre passing in 1906, she took his position of Professor of General Physics, being the first woman in the position. She also was appointed to Director of the Curie Laboratory of the University of Paris in 1914.
Her work with radiation helped develop X-ray technology which helped soldiers in WW1, and her work caused U.S. President Hoover to donate $50k to help keep radium available. After WW1 ended, she went back to lab work and sadly passed away from Aplastic anemia due to radiation exposure on July 4th, 1934. She gained a plethora of awards and achievements throughout her life. Although I only covered a few, here are all the awards she won.
1903: Noble Prize in Physics & Davy Medal
1904: Matteucci Medal
1907: Actonian Prize
1909: Elliot Cresson Medal
1910: Albert Medal
1911: Noble Prize in Chemistry
1921: John Scott Legacy Medal & Premium, Willard Gibbs Award, and the Benjamin Franklin Medal

Okay, as the person writing a book where all fictional works coexist in one reality, let me just lay out some things about how these places would actually coexist.
1. I don’t know a single thing about Krull.
2. Oz is a place on Earth. It’s a physical country in the middle of a continent called Nonestica somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Dorothy ends up there again after a ship to Australia she’s on crashes and another time after wandering through a subterranean world (under the ocean) that opened up in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
3. Narnia is in a different realm from Earth. Aslan is literally (not metaphorically) this other reality’s incarnation of Jesus Christ, meaning that whatever other lands are in this realm have a talking Lion as the Christian messiah.
4. In Peter Pan, London is referred to as the mainland, implying Neverland to be in the same realm as Earth. It is also said to sit among the stars of the Milky Way. This is all to say that the Disney depiction of it floating on a disc of water in space is accurate.
5. Hobbits are implied to have gone extinct (or at least into hiding) by the time Tolkien is translating Bilbo’s writings, so I have to imagine that a lineage managed to survive to modern day (circa 1900) in Oz by giving in and wearing shoes.
6. Wonderland should border a place called Looking-Glass Land. Wonderland is under London, and also Looking-Glass Land is the reflection in a mirror, and also both are dreams. Because of this, I really like the idea of them being near Kadath.
7. We know the geographical coordinates of Lilliput, so putting it on a hodgepodge fantasy map is a particularly odd choice. It’s just southeast of Sumatra. Where is Blefuscu? Why is Lilliput so big?
8. I don’t know anything about Westeros but it seems fine to be in a shared realm if the cosmologies get along.
9. The Wild Things definitely live in Lovecraft’s Dreamlands. I would move them to the bottom of the map.
10. Whoville is on a speck of dust. The implications.
11. Utopia is in the Americas and was (fictionally) charted on a map by Amerigo Vespucci himself. I don’t know how he missed Westeros if it’s supposed to be right there next to it.
12. Dinotopia broke off from Asia due to continental drift and the dinosaurs on it survived extinction by hiding in a massive underground cavern. The dinosaurs have their own gods. They deserve their own Jesus and shouldn’t be stuck with the Lion one.
13. Moomin Valley is in the Arctic. That’s where they were when the Westfold fell.
14. Terabithia is an imaginary place even within the context of the book. Physically, it’s in Virginia, but it definitely fits in the Dreamlands.
15. The Isle of Sodor bridges the distance between England and the Isle of Man. Thomas could drive on the tracks and reach London without having to take a ferry or anything.
16. The Living Island (from H.R. Pufnstuf) should be further out to sea so the boy can’t just swim to Sodor then take one of the many public transportation options home. The intro was shot in Big Bear Lake, California, and it definitely looks more like a lake than a bay, so the lyrics say bay to make it seem like the island is far out at sea. Despite this, Pufnstuf saw the boat attack, which happened before the boat left the bay.
17. Lidsville is also on Earth. The kid wants to steal the villain’s flying top hat to physically fly home in it. It had a crossover with Pufnstuf with Witchiepoo flying between the Living Island and Lidsville on her broom. The villains of the two shows went on a blind date.
18. Hyrule is nowhere near Earth. I can’t even comprehend a world where it borders Lidsville.
19. The Land of the Lost isn’t underground like I assumed before watching the show. It’s another realm, with three moons visible in the sky. Most of these other places only have one moon each.
20. Fantasia (presumably the one from Neverending Story) is not a physical place with geography and things. It is inside of a book. It is a manifestation of the words in the book and the memories real people have of its story.
21. Thra does not exist in a realm where anything human-like exists. I could see it being on the same speck as Whoville.
22. I don’t think Jareth’s kingdom is called Labyrinth. Of all the places that could bridge Hyrule and Earth, this is probably the only one that makes a bit of sense.
23. Earthsea is a planet with no continents, just islands. It doesn’t make any sense to put it next to these large landmasses.
24. Nehwon tracks, but it’s odd to grab it and not Erewhon.
25. The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath holds that dreams are actually the mind astral projecting to an ever-shifting realm they have control over. This could unretcon any “it was all just a dream” twist you want.
26. Avalon is an island in a lake in England. Camelot is not in Avalon.
27. Florin is also in a book. You can’t brush aside the best framing device any movie has ever had.
This was fun.
One of my favorite hobbies is thinking about the fucked up implications of this fantasy world map my parents got me for christmas
