reading wheel of time for the first time and i'm on lord of chaos and i simply cannot tell you how SHOCKED i was when they made egwene amyrlin?????? she's a child!!!! like hello????? i know it's some kind of power play/choosing someone who can be manipulated but was there no one else?????

I really have tears in my eyes rereading how Nynaeve performs miracles so effortlessly and in such an ordinary way. She heals Logain the next morning after being drunk, singing aloud, and making Elayne laugh a lot. She can't break the block, and she can't escape (Birgitte forbids Uno from helping her), she cleans pots all the time. She just sits there with Logain, using all 5 weaves and thinking about her own issues and, from time to time, about the hole inside him and whether she can create a bridge. Suddenly, his eyes widen. She created her miracle. Not only did she heal him, but she also shielded him by herself—even though he’s nearly as strong as Rand and usually requires six Aes Sedai to be shielded. Logain locks eyes with her, his eyes shining, he smiles. I can only imagine how he must have felt.

And then I find myself crying with Siuan.

Do you think the Aes Sedai poked holes in the Box or did they constantly have to keep channeling air in there so Rand could breathe

I know Brennan described Steel once as furious that a D&D game is happening, and it's funny on the surface, but man did he make us feel what that means this episode. She's right: over a hundred people who had no idea why the kudzu was growing out of control and were just trying to stop it from overtaking the city died unnecessarily. Port Talon has undergone the equivalent of several natural disasters while already harboring refugees from the surrounding countryside. Any one of the three PCs could have died and all nearly did. Ame is currently in a coma from fucking around with the curse. Like, yeah, actually, extremely valid of her to be exhausted and upset with the PCs, even though from the perspective of the listener, obviously the story is way better with the PCs fucking around and finding out rather than obediently waiting.

I think I get why the writers chose to make Nynaeve sort of underwhelming in the Power in the second season, but it does irritate me nonetheless that they've equated her not being able to channel unless angry to...not being able to channel at all. Something I loved in the books that I feel the show is sleeping on is that Nynaeve is angry so much of the time. She channels all over the place in the books because she just has that much residual rage in her. She learned how to break the damane collars, heal, use telekinesis, throw fire and lightning, make balefire, create whirlwinds, and reverse stilling before ever dissolving that block. And I feel like the show's writing is robbing us 😭 I wanna see my girl tugging her braid and getting pissed and kicking ass all at the same time

Rereading Lord of Chaos is SO funny when you read it knowing that RJ was writing Taim as Demandred at the time. Bashere thinks Taim looks wrong and he’s just like “oh I shaved.” Rand tells him “Taim at least you didn’t do anything as evil as Demandred, who murdered two whole cities.” Taim smirks the entire time he swears loyalty to Rand. The man’s vibes are rancid and I love it

I've had a lot of thoughts about a lot of readers finding Rand unlikable some people even say Rand is supposed to be unlikable. I have never found him unlikable, even on this reread.

I'm reminded of a post made about Moon Knight when it aired and it goes like this:

Traumatized people don't owe you likability. They put up walls because they have to.

And that's exactly how Rand reads to me
