I feel like I'm missing the whole point a bit bc we're supposed to go with Mama Bridgerton's view about Passion and Thrilling Love as the apex of human connection but I REALLY WANT PENELOPE TO MARRY LORD DEBLIN. Get your bag girl! He's so NICE. He wants you to have your own passions and hobbies and will leave you to it! Colin B seems such a BOY and Deblin is a grown up!

bridgerton season 3 part 1 thoughts
hello i just finished watching bridgerton season 3 part 1 and it was SO good omg COLIN AND PENELOPE ARE FINALLY TOGETHER OH MY GOD THE WAIT WAS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT
now i have to wait until june 13th for part 2....*sighs deeply*
i am absolutely curious as to why lady danbury doesn't like her brother and i REALLY want to see violet hook up with him. it's what violet deserves tbh
lots of things happened in four episodes but the violet/marcus and colin/penelope stories are my favorites. im not really invested in francesca's storyline tbh (doesn't mean i don't like it lol)
benedict and lady arnold (?) was interesting (i can understand why ppl didnt like that storyline lol)
lady featherington is an ASTOUNDINGLY terrible mother. it's been clear from day 1 but this season really highlighted it.
i did not care for literally any scene involving cressida. i do not sympathize with her (much). she has been relentlessly cruel since episode 1 and has shown very little remorse if any. perhaps she may become a more likable character eventually but only time will tell.
eloise.....i actually appreciated that she still cares and worries for penelope. i understand completely why she drifted away from penelope tbh and i hope their friendship will return. they were one of the best parts of the series.

I didn't enjoy Bridgerton season 3 part 2 as much as I would have liked to. I hate how they just shoved Cressida to the side, gave her a horrible ending, and totally invalidated her friendship with Eloise (side note, I loved their pairing and how Jessica Madsen was a Creloise shipper; Claudia Jessie and Madsen adored each other and it really came out on screen). I adore Creloise.
I would have been okay with Eloise and Penelope continuing to not be friends because that's just life sometimes, you know? In the CBS show Mom, Christie's daughter Violet says that the damage to their relationship is irreparable and she does not want to have a relationship with her. As someone who is no-contact with my family of origin, I really appreciated that representation.
(As an aside, I know that Lady Whistledown wasn't as big of a player in the books, and I think that change really complicated a lot of elements in the series. I wouldn't have been able to forgive Penelope if I were Eloise, and if I had written it, I would have reworked that conflict to have not been as enormous. Eloise had some necessary growth and I think it would have been satisfying to explore that, particularly the Emma motif.)
The Lady Whistledown arc was batshit. I feel sad that the Polin wedding was overshadowed by the fact that Colin and Penelope were still in conflict. If they hadn't had Colin absolutely wreck Penelope's reputation (interrupting Lord Deblin's proposal and then fingering her in her carriage, as well as totally bonking her later that night), then maybe they could have had a more traditional "third-act breakup" (they realize they love each other, begin courting, and then he realizes she's Lady Whistledown and breaks it off) that culminates in the "happily ever after" at the wedding. And then you get the beautiful "perfect breasts" mirror scene.
I hate how they have Francesca immediately lovestruck by Michaela. It really cheapened and invalidated the sweet and "quiet" love that she and John had, which I loved. John should have been the genderbent casting. Then you have the infertility storyline all baked in, and then the Michael storyline continues as planned.
I would like to have seen Kate in traditional Indian garb. I know they had to have her in Bridgerton blue, but Kate had said "I want my child to know that they're a Sharma." It would be a good way for her to show that she's brought her own identity to the Bridgerton family and the viscountess role. They could have Bridgerton-type accessories and motifs in her outfits, but I think she would really shine in bright, saturated colors like orange or gold.
I don't think the Penelope makeover was dramatic enough. I'd liked to have seen her in more luxurious clothing and maybe jewelry. Nicola Coughlan looks amazing in anything, and "red hair with green outfits" is a classic combination (as well as marrying Bridgerton blue with Featherington yellow), but it feels very "florals for spring? Groundbreaking." I know the point is that her clothing was very overwrought before, but I think there could be a balance between understated/quiet luxury and a more obvious "oh, she's evolved/gotten more prosperous" kind of way.

Season 3 of Bridgerton
An analysis of part 1 and theories of part 2
To say this season has been long awaited would be an understatement and I am proud to say that from what I have seen it has met expectations with some lovely surprises.
While it was well known that this was to be Colin and Penelope’s season I did not expect to see Francesca fall in love this season let alone become the diamond. For those who read the books we never got to meet her first husband and to get this chance in the show is quite interesting and I wish to see more of this relationship as it progresses against the Queen’s wishes.
It was also a welcome sunrise to see Lady Violet potentially finding love after such a long time since her husband’s passing. She is certainly one who has seen many hardships and deserves to find love again.
Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his adventures in such a roguish fashion and while he was certainly charming I have found myself more captivated by Lord Debling. Perhaps it is his acting skills or how the writers presented him but he is truly a fascinating character when he is on screen. He is also the first suitor to treat Penelope with any sort of respect when courting her which was a welcome change. That is not to say Colin wasn’t kind to her but it was from friendship rather than romantic interest until near the end of part 1 of Season 3 when he finally faced his feelings.
Penelope had also redeemed herself this season beyond the cruel actions of Lady Whistledown which I found was handled very well. However while I found myself wishing for her to marry Lord Deblin that quickly changed when she silently admitted to not loving him. Out of all the characters Penelope is certainly one who deserves a love match this season.
But what I found most surprising was the turn around for Lady Cressida. Through her friendship with Eloise we were allowed to see a new side of her. While she does have some of her old habits of bullying Penelope (and I do wish for an explanation for that) I don’t not wish for her father to marry her off to the highest bidder. Even Lady Cressida does not deserve to be married off like cattle to the slaughter.
However, with part 2 set to release June 13th I am hoping for the best for all of our favorite characters I do wish to see Lady Cressida married to Lord Deblin. Their match seems to be the most agreeable after everything that has happened to both of them and she genuinely shows interest without another suitor she is secretly in love with.
With so many plots, romances, and much more I wonder if season four will follow the formula of season 3 and have not only Benedict finding his love in our yet to be seen Cinderella at the masquerade (much like in the books) but include Eloise and her romance with Sir Phillip Crane. However that will mean that Marina will be gone. Of course that depends if the writers chose to continue with that romance plot.
I know some fans of the show are sensitive to Marina’s situation however it is something that we should not be afraid to discuss. She is a lovely character and her actress was phenomenal in the show but for those who read the books it is heartbreaking knowing what the future may hold. One that I am unsure if the writers on the show will be comfortable working with. But we will never know until season 4.

This was what Eloise meant when she said: Colin is not like Lord Deblin. He WILL find out.
Girl literally said: he WILL STALK YOUR ASS, he already does it on a daily basis, it's bound to get worst.
And she was right. That's exactly how he found out. Because he's literally a puppy dog running after her asking for attention.

Bridgeton s3 part. 2 Sigh.
I can't be. I just can't. Colin questions whether Penelope entrapped him when it was him ruining Penelope's engagement with Lord Deblin when it was him that compromised her in the carriage when it was him that five seconds later proposed to her and could not wai for her to announce it, pisses me off!
no, Colin doesn't get respite. this is the direct result of his action, so I find him to go and sleep on the sofa ON THE WEDDING NIGHT not only childish but disrespectful.
I would rather Pen just call the wedding off, but I am petty and vengeful and obviously if she is capable of forgiving her own family, she can forgive anything.
not me though.
Also Pen apologizing, for what? do you think she was the only gossip column out there? is all the other men who run the other other gossip columns apologize to the queen?! If El, and Colin got a case of jealousy because they did not do anything yet, it's not Penelepe's problem.
Eloise knows for eight months and she is near a metal breakdown, wonder what would she have done if Penelope had share the secret with her lol.
as if.
by the way screw shonda rhymes and to be honest michaela sterling?????? WTF
this is Regency romance!
If you want woke themes, there are thousands of contemporary romances with all pairings possible! hell, there are even historical specifics to all your woke til your heart-content!!!
don't come at me with that fucking nonsense! ruining one of my favourite series! fucking hell!!!!!!!!!

Posting the scene again but with some thoughts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a presentation of both characters and it's a good comparison.
Colin, in the background, he can read the real intentions of Cressida like we do. Maybe, because he knows both well enough. But, it's his reaction what's really important here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He finds an elegant way to make Cressida feel uncomfortable. He has an heroic gesture (speaks of his character) but more than anything he makes Pen feel better, because Penelope feeling sad is something that Colin can't deal very well.
So, this scene is presented to us to make us understand the dinamic between them. It's easy like Colin after that. He's being kind when she was bullied, and in the end they danced together.
Tumblr media
Pen is happy. We're happy. Cressida lost.
Tumblr media
Cressida does the same thing here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Deblin can't see what's really happening here. He's kind. And in the surface does everything right, but Pen still doesn't look happy.
And he leaves, giving us to us the impression that Cressida won this time.
Tumblr media
And in the end is a description of his character: he's okay, but he's not the right one for Penelope. He doesn't stay. He would never be, specially because we saw the right thing to do first. The situation is familiar to us, and is easy to feel that something was missing.
It was Colin.

I think it's because of Portia. She did the better she could to make her daughters have husbands that she could control. She wasn't going to accept otherwise.
Portia didn't want her kids having cruel husbands, she wanted to know they were still being close.
Because even when they're hard to each other, their love eachother. Maybe been harsh even was a way of love.
That's why Lord Deblin sounded so good to her. He even wasn't going to be around. She never wanted to lose her daughters. She wasn't sure with Colin. But when he said to her that he loved Pen, she knew she was going to be okay. So, she tried to be more nice with the family to them not casting her out.
Can someone deep in the bridgerton fandom explain why even tho Penelopes sisters are both married, they seem to still be part of thr featherington family? Wouldn't they each have joined their husbands families? Why are the husband's walking around with the featheringtons?

Black Swan Green by David Mitchell
Black Swan Green A year in the life of Jason Taylor: thirteen, British, equally naïve and gifted with insight, and a stammerer. Love this book! Honest. Well-crafted. Full of popular culture references from the early eighties. On page 211, Holly Deblin (who later becomes Jason’s first kiss), gives him some advice that sums up what the step Jason must ultimately take to grow beyond what he struggles with in this book, “You’re not a maggot. Don’t let dickheads decide what you are” (211). The novel is told from Jason’s point of view with lots of interior monologue that demonstrates his naivete (he’s only 13!), his keen power of observation and insight into life and relationships, and his common struggle to be the person he most wants to be. The book is funny, poignant, and full of delightful comparisons that lift the words off the page, creating powerful images and associations. There is a fitting allusion to Lord of the Flies in which Jason has to read aloud, thus exposing his stammer to all and humiliating him. The author does not shy from just how cruel children can be to each other without unrealistically demonizing the bully. The story seeks to empower the individual against society, a theme that is clearly laid out by the poem Jason finds on his English teacher’s desk when going to retrieve his whistle,”Don’t laugh at what you don’t find funny./ Don’t support and opinion you don’t hold./ The independent befriend the independent./ Adolescence dies in its fourth year. You live to be eighty” (213). I am awed by how well this book is written, how real Jason Taylor felt to me. As a parent of a bright, sometimes shy thirteen-year-old boy, my question now is: How can I get him to read this book? I want to buy copies by the dozens and pass them out in the hallway at the high school where I teach. There are lots of stories about bullies. This is the most intelligent, real, and empowering treatment of the subject I’ve ever come across.
A few good lines:
“It’s easier to change your eyeballs than to change your nickname” (16). “Who decides which defects are funny and which ones tragic? Nobody laughs at blind people or makes iron lung jokes” (36). “A cow of an awkward pause mooed” (52). “Hate smells of burnt dead fireworks” (74). “Stewy air stroked Dawn Madden’s white chocolate throat” (83). “The earth’s a door, if you press your ear against it” (91). “The last days of freedom rattle like a nearly empty box of Tic Tacs” (191).
So many more…

Ah shit Mama Featherington just said what I said and it's clearly the villain's attitude to have. Why does this keep happening to me.
