Why does the concept of a wild kratts and pokemon crossover work so well

When I asked for suggestions the other day a lot of people asked for pokemon content but at the time I was just doing some sketches. However, I was inspired to take a crack at it a little later! And alas here is Chris' team. (He's a grass primary obviously) (... is it obvious what my favorite gen is.......?)

I feel like he wouldn't be a pokemon trainer though... more like a researcher.... so basically the same exact thing they do in Wild Kratts... except with pokemon in the place of real animals. And their pokemon are considered more of companions and teammates that can help on adventures. (Maybe occasionally helping with villain encounters?) Idk! It's not like a whole AU I wanna dive into but I thought it would be fun to draw as a one-off thing :] Not sure if I'll make it through the whole crew, but I'm definitely working on Martin next. Most of my fav pokemon are water types so I'm really excited!

okay i just realized collei and wanderer meeting would actually be so fucking funny bc wanderer would absolutely remind her of her younger self and collei HATES her younger self, refering to her as childish and even funnier implying she thinks she was CRINGEY

like she has that voiceline in which she quotes lines from an inazuman novel and then goes on to say its "too cringey" and she "cant read any more" of it

but BUT in one of her character stories it quotes the same lines from said novel and says that after reading she then couldn't sleep all night bc (its implied) it reminded her of her past self

so basically collei meeting wanderer would just be "this guy is so much like me when i was younger and i HATE it he is so fucking cringey i can't take it" like wanderer says some wanderer shit and collei is just visibly wincing behind tighnari bc of the pure unfiltered amounts of Fucking Cringe Vibes she's getting from this old man

the more i read mortal engines the more i understand why fans who grew up with the book were livid about the film. the film didn't just cut huge chunks of plot and worldbuilding, but it changed a lot of things entirely, not just the characters' ages.

although. having seen the film first, i think there are some things the film actually does a little better. personally, i think tom, despite being a little bland, is more likable and aging the characters up was a good choice. i also prefer the badges over the tattoos (i feel they'd look a bit goofy on screen) and find the handling of shrike's motivation and death a little more satisfying and emotional.

the film is a liiiittle cowardly for not totally mangling hester's face, though. it would have been cool if they committed to her lost eye, twisted mouth, and missing or badly scarred nose. i mean, letting a female character be "ugly" and "scary" but still a hero? badass. instead they just gave her 1 attractively placed scar and called it a day. and, like, it's fine since hera still kills the role and looks absolutely ferocious. but. y'know. we could've had more.

still. i like both versions. they're different but fun in their own way and set out what they're meant to do pretty well. kind of like how i feel about the uncharted games vs the uncharted film; i love them both and don't think the uncharted film is any lesser for not being a perfect match to the games because it's still enjoyable.

I'm kinda curious to know your favorite ship dynamic (or dynamics!!)

Friends to lovers for sure!

As an aroace person myself I need SOME kind of positive dynamic already in place, and if they’re friends it’s just so easy to think of them as something more, y’know? It’s about the slow realisation that the person you’ve been friends with for so long, who’s been with you through thick and thin actually means so much more to you. The realisation that brings down an intense weight upon the one who realises, the thought that if this doesn’t go right then everything could be ruined.

Emotions, feelings, they all get thrown into the balance and that’s everything to me. Especially if they’re just. Normal friends at the start of the story. Then something big happens that throws everything off, feelings are realised, and then everything is Different. That’s where it is AT.

Even in a story where a pair isn’t friends at first! As long as they become friends and build from there it’s great. There just needs to be some kind of positive buildup for it to work.

Spiralling off a bit, but for me to ship a ship they need to have positive interactions. They need to be friends. Need to bounce off each other in a way that’s not malicious. This is why enemies to lovers doesn’t work for me. I’d never be able to understand how people can ship two people who hate/are against each other because there’s just. Nothing positive to build on lol.
