Some silly warm-up doodles of my favs

Mikhail is one of my favourite Xenoblade 2 characters. Without the context of Torna he comes across as a pompous ass who initially doesn't have much reason to act the way he does. We learn later that he's a blade eater and his hatred for Amalthus spans from the way he killed the others with him.

However, with the context of Torna the way he acts is tragic to think about. He was a child who never knew his parents and was sold off to slave traders. He survived the destruction of Porton Village and was saved by Jin and Lora who were passing through at the time.

Jin, and especially Lora became parental figures of sorts towards him. Despite his quiet nature at the time he was happy. He opened up to Lora and became attached, she was the first person in his life who showed him the care and affection he never had growing up.

He also became close with Milton who became his closest friend. He didn't trust many others at the time due to his past but he was influenced by those around him. Especially Jin, but also Addam, his goofy, jovial nature being part of the person he created himself as later on.

Mikhail developed a hatred towards the Aegis, and Mythra specifically due to the way she was the reason behind the Destruction of Torna, and his friend Milton. After Torna's destruction he left alongside Jin, Haze and Lora, being experimented on by Amalthus alongside the other Tornan refugees.

It can be assumed Jin rescued Mikhail at a later point, sometime after Lora's death. They then, along with Malos who saved Jin from the brink of despair, then decided to form Torna as a way to fight back against Amalthus' tyranny.

Unlike how he was as a child, Mikhail is now playful and extroverted. It's interesting since it is a coping mechanism in which he distracts from his hatred and depression. His personality is like a mixture of all of those from Torna, both New and Old. It also represents the death of his old self.

I love his character so much because he is also the only person who can understand Jin's previous attachments, other than Malos who became his other half. Mikhail is loyal to Jin and would do anything he asked. They both couldn't move on past their trauma and feelings of loss until the end.

lora is such a soft yandere!

she grew up without her parents, practically raised by her own blade, so she always craved to love someone unconditionally and start her own family one day

when lora meets you, there's an immediate attraction, but she takes her time to get to know you, to find out if you are the one for her!

lora isn't the type to quickly obsess over someone she just met. she needs to really get to know you to truly love you

but once she's in love with you, she knows you are the one! you are the one she wants to spend the rest of her life with!

lora manages to win you over with her honesty and her gentleness. she doesn't need to kill her rivals or talk badly about others, like some yanderes do!

lora is convinced that you can learn to love her, just as she learned to love you! and as it turns out, she isn't wrong!

it might not happen in just a day, a week or even a month, but as time passes, you fall in love with lora too. or maybe you've loved her all along and only now dared to admit those feelings to yourself

once lora and you finally start dating, she'll spoil you with affection! she always has her hands on you, gently holding your hand, resting her hand on your back or even having an arm wrapped around you

cuddling is part of your daily routine when you date lora! she'll rest your head in her lap and play with your hair, as she reminds you how much she loves and adores you

and more than often, she'll bring up her desire to start a family with you during those cuddling sessions!

lora wants to have a big and happy family as soon as possible! but if you need more time, then she'll wait. just having you by her side and waking up next to you each day is already enough to make her happy!

What some people fail to realise is that Torna is literally a family unit

The reason I love Rex as a protagonist so much is that he has some stereotypes of typical protagonists of JRPG stories. Kind-hearted, optimistic, 'dense' and gets the girl in the end. However, beneath the surface, he's a much more interesting character that people tend to give him credit for.

He was orphaned when he was young. His father and mother died trying to save Rex, and he ended up in Fonsett raised by Corinne and his foster siblings. Rather than wallow in despair of his situation, which would be understandable to others, he decides to instead try to help others around him.

He becomes a salvager, both out of a desire to help his family but also to search for 'Elysium' which in Rex's eyes is a place that can be the start to a better world for everyone. Rex becomes fixated on this dream to a degree where he's unable to focus on anything else.

To Rex, this hope for a better world where people won't have to suffer is a coping mechanism. Without this dream, Rex would lose hope and despair in the world similar to how Jin did when he lost Lora and ended up taking by his desires of revenge.

Rex nearly lost hope a few times on his journey. First time when Pyra and Mythra were kidnapped and Nia and the rest had to snap him out of it. The other when he finally reached Elysium, and he realised that the place he dreamed over wasn't how he pictured.

If not for his friends and allies who accompanied him on his journey, Rex wouldn't be able to keep up his sense of self. However, due to everything he experienced on his journey, his desires for helping others became stronger and stronger.

Pyra and Mythra's love for Rex makes sense to me. Rex is the first person to ever see them as individuals and now 'the Aegis' a power to be used. Nia's love for Rex also came from a similar place. Rex loves the world and all the people who are different from him.

I love how Xenoblade 2 portrays Rex's growth from a young, immature child who wanted a world where suffering didn't exist, to a man who became a pillar of hope for many and helped the world change in the way he wanted, with the help of those who helped him change.

Anyway moving on…

Pour one out for Vex and her Driver who loves chocolate as much as I do. I gave her to Morag because that’s going to be her and Brigid in 50 years.

Torna’s grievances to how Blades get their memories wiped are valid. Wanting to destroy all living beings? Not so much. And they seem to be two steps ahead of Shulk and Co because they’ve already got their sights on killing the Architect.

Seriously Amalthus you sus af. I just KNOW all that pretending to be sorry about Malos is an act. Plus the sheer irony my Desi ass sees in the sus character being BLUE.

Jin used to be a good guy but sided with Malos. It can’t be because of Lora because he adopted her before Malos showed up (although how she was adopted probably did NOT help). And everyone is also pointing out “he convinced me” isn’t the whole story. I did say that the only one missing is a gay couple before. And Malos from what I see has shown no interest in women. So MAYBE…

(Diversity win? The rogue blade trying to destroy humanity is gay?)

The most interesting part of XC2 is the geopolitics. XC1’s world didn’t feel fleshed out at all. I know the Mechon destroyed most of it, but you don’t get a sense of where every place is and how they relate together. I also love how each titan has its own type of people.

Nia why the ever loving fuck did you not work your magic with Vandame?! Also I was very VERY right to wonder if there’s more to Nia than meets the eye considering she used to be with Torna.

And now it looks like I’m starting to change my mind about Zeke. In fact I’m beginning to feel very sorry for the guy. Especially now that we’re visiting his Daddy Dearest…

dating lora & haze

a/n: lora & haze are the two sunshine girls of torna (& honestly, xenoblade in general) so i had to write a 'what if' scenario for dating them! spoiler: it's super cute and wholesome!

the three of you are clearly meant for each other, as you make each other so visibly happy that nobody else can compare to it!

lora and haze have so much love to give and they aren't afraid to be affectionate with you and each other!

haze always clings to lora and you, her arms wrapped around your arm wherever you go and she's always ready to cuddle!

whenever you go anywhere, haze insists on holding hands with lora and you! and you often do, unless you need a weapon in your hand instead, due to the path you're taking being dangerous

lora is the protective one in the relationship, fighting alongside jin to keep haze and you safe!

meanwhile, haze patches you up after battle, should you have ended up taking some hits

jin is around the three of you a lot and he's always the third wheel! he's happy for you three, but it's rather awkward for him to be around you, so he always keeps a bit of a distance when going anywhere

there's no genuine jealousy in the relationship, but haze does pout and complain when she notices you kissing lora, playfully demanding a kiss from you as well!

when the three of you are together, you're always smiling and having fun! you make each other happier than anything else and it's clear that your relationship is one that'll last forever!

Torna - The Golden Country: Thoughts

-All unique monsters besides the gold ones defeated, full community, all affinity charts completed, full pouch item completion.

-Game looks and sounds great, though there's definitely signs of age nowadays due to pop-in and texture loading

-Gameplay is top notch, despite my complaining about certain things. Driver, Blade and Fusion combos combined with XC2's version of the Chain Attack is candy for the brain. A streamlined XC2 experience that's perfect for Torna's shorter campaign. However, I wouldn't want the same systems in the main game tbh, even the easier elemental orb stacking. I feel both systems fit their respective games just fine.

-Exploration is fun! Collection points as a whole are better than XC1's item orbs IMO, though I imagine I'll have less of a grand time with base XC2's version since there's nothing marking them there as minerals, vegetables, etc. Same thing with Field Skills, as since there's only six Blades required for the adventure, there's less to manage, but XC2 is bigger and more varied, with many more field skills to lock chests and locations behind.

-I know that the Community aspect of the game is divisive, as it locks main story progress behind it, but... honestly I don't mind. The game without its quests is extremely short, and the Community honestly adds another emotional kick to the gut by the time you get to the end. Besides, there's so few quests anyway that it's not that much of a time sink/waste.

-Story and characters made me cryyyyyy. Knowing the futures of all the Blades in the party makes a turbulence of emotions in my stomach, and Lora, Addam, and Hugo were all splendid protagonists to follow. Seeing just how great and grand Torna was (again, thanks to story, characters, and quests) really sets up the main game of XC2 well, as you'd definitely feel its presence lost.

-Gonna take a break before starting main game XC2, I need a nap to stop the tears
