well this was bound to be brought up at some point.

Team fortress 2 released in 2007 by Valve was a trailblazer of the multi class shooter and possibly remains one of the longest lasting online games to ever exist with the game having an active community 16 years on from it’s initial launch in the orange box.

the story of the game is a surprisingly in depth one despite the games reputation of being the “ha ha funny” FPS with all of it’s over the top characters and quirky weapon concepts.

A rich Englishman known as Zephaniah Mann was convinced by his two Idiot sons Blutarch and Redmond to buy a large sum of land over in new medico, not only was the land comedically useless but the trip over somehow managed to get him every disease known to man-kind, on the will and testiment he had made using his own skin (yes I’m not joking there) he left his company Mann Co to his aide and ancestor to a character who will be very important later on Barnibus Hale, to his two sons still bitter as hell that there stupidity resulted in him buying a useless wasteland and knowing how much the two brothers hated each other left shared ownership of the wasteland they had convinced him to buy fully knowing they’d fight over it until the day they died, he was completely right.

As the years went one of the brothers hired mercenaries to take the land from the other only to later realise the other had done the exact same thing starting up the start of what would become known as “The gravel wars”

Zephaniah’s theory that his sons would fight over the worthless dustbowl till the day of there deaths was about to proven correct as the two were at this point very close to death, that was until the intervention of Radigan Conagher who was hired to make a machine to extend the lifespan of Blutarch to ensure he’d outlive his brother and fully inherit the land upon his brothers death, only problem was that Bradigan had been bribed to make a life extender for Redmond as well, through bribery of a character known as Elizabeth in trade for 100 pounds of a substance known as Australium, seemingly able to grant those who have extended exposure to it heightened intellect or even the ability to extend there lives, after all was said and done Blutarchs plan to outlive his brother had been foiled and resulted in yet another stalemate over once again, the useless pile of dirt they were fighting over.

the war of there’s ended up lasting so long that another group of mercernaries were brought in to continue fighting over the land, the group here are actually the characters from the first team fortress or Team fortress classic, a nice piece of history to acknowledge 

and at last cut to the current events of gravel wars in which the group of 9 mercenaries we know and love from the game get hired to continue the fight over this completely useless wasteland, with weapons being sent in and provided by Barnibus’s grandson Saxton Hale with the war being coordinated by The administrator as well as here Assistant Mrs Pauling who work for both sides but keep this a secret from both the red and blu brothers as well as the mercs themselves, likely to prolong out the fight.

and that, was the basic summary of in universe pre game history and lore of team fortress 2 you’d think that’d be all to the story but nope there’s still a lot I missed out for the sake of this blog not turning into an autobiography, as well as that were breaking this up into multiple parts, with this going over basic history and other upcoming posts going over the designs of the Mercenaries and other characters as well as the idea of classes and characters with different roles on a team, and finally an extra part of the story that I left out for another time, this posts creation took scouring wiki pages and several comics so those will all be linked down here with how helpful they were to summarise this pre game history.
