what do the bishops do in the cult? Are they happy or plotting revenge?

At first their reactions varied from plotting revenge to escaping or overtaking the cult, I think all of them have tried to kill the Lamb at some point xD

But with enough time and the right companies, they eventually learned to like their new home! And even find themselves guilty for what theyve done in the past, each at their own pace and manner

Leshy was probably the less-management one, when he joined he'd break a lot of things and purposefully make the Lamb's life harder, like a kid throwing a tantrum It was only when he was assigned under Beau's care that he chilled out. Beau has always been good with people, so it was no problem for him to figure Leshy out and help him to eventually come to terms with his new home After the getting-used-to's, Leshy became pretty much the chillest out of all the other Bishops. He's fine with living in the cult and honestly enjoys it to an extent, but will obviously never say it aloud xD once threatening people and the Lamb, now befriending / getting acquainted with some of them! He works as a farmer or bartender most of the time

Heket was surprisingly along the same lines of chill. She was definitely unhappy with her situation, but was the most relieved one to be free from the Crowns influence Now able to genuinely experience the taste of food and feel that emptiness inside of her being filled in at last, she quickly learned to like her new home Ofc tho, she never said it, and in fact became much quieter compared to before, since she no longer had the Crowns power to easen up her throat. Now it hurts a lot more to talk, she has to take meds in order to soothe it up and tends to communicate mostly in gestures, stares or acts of service depending on her mood. She also knows sign language! :D She mostly works at the mines or lumberyards, seemingly enjoying to break things apart. The Lamb thinks its her way of "coping" with not being a Bishop anymore lol Out of all the Bishops, shes probably the loneliest, not many have the guts to approach her and Heket tends to like being by herself usually. Sometimes she can be found sulking about with Narinder, the second loneliest out of all the others

Kallamar was likely the most outraged one, since hes been stripped away from the luxuries of being a Bishop like clothings, weapons, jewelries, a nice fancy home. He thought that getting the Crowns back could bring his old life back, not for the sake of power, but the comfort and safety it gave him. Hes definitely the one who has tried scheming against the Lamb many times, still holding his knowledge of weapons and magic in general. But to no surprise, he always failed LOL Kallamar only started calming down once seeing his spouses/disciples in the cult, whom he had tried to get to work with him against the Lamb, but refused or failed still After everything, he'd become depressed, desperately missing when he was taken seriously as an authority figure, but with time his spouses will teach him to like his new life Nowadays he still misses his old life, but is more at peace with being in the cult, especially knowing those he loves and cares about the most are with him (aka his spouses and siblings). Hes the one who will break the most sweat to truly get used to the cult Sometimes he works as a tailor or at the refinery, crafting tends to calm him down and distract him from his thoughts. However, he mostly prefers to be a medic at the Healing Bay, since its one of the few things that remind him of what he once was

Shamura would likely jump from chill to disturbed depending on their mood. Although they believe to be deserving of their punishment, a part of their mind which was considerably overtaken by the Crowns' ideals will sometimes force them to look for a way out or relinquish back the eldritch power, usually against Shamura's will, like voices they'd hear from time to time telling them what to do All in all tho, theyd be the one to try their best to like their new home and even purposefully make themselves miserable out of guilt for their past mistakes, something which the Lamb is either compassionate for or allows them to do due to their own hatred for the Bishops still There'd be many times where Shamura seemed to "sleepwalk" around or found themselves outside the cult without memory of how they got there. Itd be only when they ask the Lamb to become their Disciple that the voices in their head start to quiet down, now being overpowered by the Red Crowns influence Eventually, they become an official Disciple and scribe for the Lamb. Their psychotic episodes will significantly reduce, but still happen from time to time with minor consequences The Lamb often finds themselves questioning whether Shamura is being genuine on what theyve chosen, but is very much compelled to forgive them one day

I've been following you for a bit but this is the first time I personally ever read this name from you. So naturally I am curious and would like you to yap about this character. 🔫💗

aa !!! aria beyblade beloved..!!! I've written some description stuff and added some drawings I've done of her (i need to draw her more soon !!!) (vita is also there next to her in the second photo teehee..vita's outfit is a little bit outdated here but it'sokk)

Aria Bunne is one of my Shogun Steel / ZERO-G beyblade ocs !! she's a regular member on the USA's representative team, Team Dungeon (team dungeon 2 babeyyyyy!!!! woooo!!!!). Her bey's name is undecided at the moment, but it will be a stamina type with a Jackalope motif !!

Aria is graceful and polite, she also knows her worth and holds herself highly! She prefers not to get into serious conflict or petty arguments and shrugs her shoulders and sighs whenever her teammates get into fights, knowing it will all be sorted out eventually. Her calm composure can be easily swayed when it comes to the person she likes :]

Aria wants to be a Beyblade performer! Alongside singing and dancing, she puts on shows with the sparks from her bey spirit (think similar to Dynamis' special moves!). Speaking of Dynamis, he's Aria's favorite Legendary Blader. Some other bladers she looks up to are Teru, Lera, and Hikaru!

Aria is also popular on social media in the new beyblade age! A lot of her performance work is shown on her socials, and she loves conversations about popular bladers, both old and new! You could say she's on the beyblade equivalent of stan twitter…Because of her connections and her experiences, she can help her team get info on upcoming opponents, and also prevent her team mates from sharing too much about their own skills haha

Another thing about Aria, she has both US and UK citizenship. She was originally going to be a member on the UK's team, but a falling out with the team leader made her decide otherwise. Her older brother, who is currently on the UK team encouraged her to try out for the USA team since he knows how much Aria wants to perform in front of the whole beyblade world! But, because her heart was previously set on being with the UK team, she has troubles connecting with her new team at first

For some plot introduction stuff, she first appears before the selection tournaments. She locates the Dungeon Gym and declares a challenge to the strongest blader there (bladers challenging beyblade gyms is pretty common and the dungeon gym tends to get these a lot!). Because the strongest blader isn't there at the moment (it's Vita lol), Jayce steps up and battles her. (Aria is aware that he's not the one she's looking for but accepts it anyways). Cool battle ensues and Jayce loses, but he's incredibly happy because he's met a new cool and swag blader. Vita does eventually show up and witnesses the battle, congratulating Aria on her win and asking her if she's still interested in battling against her :3 Aria says yes and places something on the line for it :3 whoever wins has to treat the other to ice cream :3 (Jayce is a little disappointed he didn't get this offer, but he didn't quite understand what was going on here....lmao...)

Ooh you’re gonna love this it’s a alternate first meeting and it takes place 2 years pre canon, where Tommy and Buck meet at a book signing of their favorite author. Also the sticky note mentioned in the title is plot relevant I just don’t wanna spoil why

Here’s a snippet (unfortunately I haven’t written Buck and Tommy actually talking to eachother yet 😂) (cause you know why I have too many plot bunnies)

Tommy had been reading Chasing Starlight by Savino C. Zambrano in the bunkroom for a good chunk of his shift after getting his usual tasks done, to make up for the fact he couldn’t go to the signing event for the latest installment that was being held today. Sure he could have asked for the day off weeks ago but he’s pretty sure Captain Gerrad would have laughed in his face and deny the time off if he had, he’s pretty sure the only books his captain had read were the textbooks at his time in academy if the old man’s ability to be obtuse and a asshole were anything to go by.

The novel was the first book in the series and if he had his way he would have had the 4th book today, but for now he’ll be content to reread the book that got him into Sci-Fi in the first place, with the cracked spine and age worn, tea and coffee stained pages that are threatening to fall out. He had finally gotten to his favorite scene where the sweet but jaded bounty hunter turned hermit finally admits to the optimistic hero of the series that he sees him as a friend, when the alarm bell started to blare throughout the firehouse. He tries not to groan but he can’t help it he hates getting interrupted even though its work. He goes to hide his copy underneath the mattress of the bottom bunk that he had unintentionally claimed as his during A shift, so long ago.

Its not like he’s ashamed of his favorite series or his love for reading but he would rather not have to deal with the less than kind ribbing the team tends to do being aimed at him if they find out that he likes reading what could be seen as softer but dramatic character driven books, but its also not like he’s any better than them if him not stepping in to help Hen or Chim when they had been the targets was a sign, he’s gotten used to laying low at best and humoring the team at worst. There’s a reason Eli would rather keep to himself or take Chim under his wing when he had worked at the firehouse.

He tries not to look too interested when he hears Captain Gerrad rattle out the address for Lavender Sprig Bookstore where the signing event was taking place, he would think the universe was trying to mock him or something if it hadn’t been for the fact that Gerrad had stated that the emergency was that a bookshelf had collapsed on top of a group of civilians, hopefully it wasn’t as bad as it sounded.

When they arrive they’re greeted by a bookseller who’s hiding her worry surprisingly well for someone’s shop dealing with a pretty sizable event telling by the line at the signing table they passed that he tried not to eye to long, regular flow of customers, on top of possible several medical emergencies. “A Good Samaritan seemed to have the bookshelf handled, he’s been holding it up and when others tired to move the injured from under the shelf he told them not to and to wait until the proper medical professionals have it handled” the bookseller, Mara said as they weaved through bookshelves and people which explained why she was more calm than frantic which isn’t a reaction that’s seen very often on the job.

“Sounds like a dumb kid trying to play firefighter who’s just going to be more of a hindrance” Captain Gerrad grumbled out as they finally got to the collapsed shelves.

“More like he’s just trying to help and he clearly has look around you” he hears hen snip back as she and Chim brush past the crew. Tommy does give a quick courtesy glance at that and notices that despite how close this area of the bookstore is to the signing, the front of the store and registers it’s clearly deserted instead of being filled with the typical nosy bystanders.

He hears captain Gerrad angrily retort “Kinard, De Luca secure the shelves and make sure that kid is out of the way” he gives Gerard a nod in response as he says to Sal “you take the left side I’ll take the right” Sal gives him a thumbs up as he hands Sal the other cord to secure the shelf. As they follow Hen and chim, Tommy taps on the stranger’s shoulder to get his attention since he was clearly crouched in a way that was easier to bare the weight of the bookcase as one person instead of what should be two at minimum which was made harder since the stranger was also being careful to not be in the way of the injured civilians

Like, they´ll be torn between being worried sick because their hooman is fragile and tiny and very much breakable, and what if you´ve seriously HURT yourself with such a reckless action-

So, the first thing they´ll do is be right up in your face. And I mean it. Like, sticking their heads together as each of them fights to be the most in-your-face, their eyes scanning you from head to toe, hands squishing your face à la fishface only to run them all over you to make sure you´re not broken.

(They tend to get a smidge dramatic in such moments. Moments where there´s a possibility you´ve obtained a scratch, that is.)

It is only when they are 100% certain you´re unharmed that their fear turns into rage. And their attention turns to-

...Yeah, you better run. You whoever has dared to try and claim what has already been claimed. Trying to put your slimy hands on them, leading to this whole mess (you obtaining not a single scratch but could have, that is) in the first place.

Ohh...they´re pissed. So pissed they´re struggling not to show some actual teeth-

How the turns have tabled. Now it´s you who is all up in their faces, trying to calm them down by whispering sweet nothings, touching their faces, gently stroking their arms and chests and just anywhere you can reach. Not an easy feat, considering you have to start anew with the first one once you are through with the last, flitting back and forth the line like you´re trying to prevent pots from boiling over.

Once you´re certain this place (the club or wherever this takes place) isn´t about to become obliberated in vampiric rage, you turn around to tend to-

(Yes, it´s three of em f*ckers.)

You don´t shout. You don´t try to punch them again (mostly because you´ve just managed to calm your still very enraged mates...no need to tempt fate). You don´t even look mad or angry anymore - on the contrary.

You´re quiet, almost too quiet. Gazing at the three of them with an expression that is a dangerous mix between tediousness and vexation because all you´d wanted was a peaceful and fun night out with the ones you hold most dear. Was that really too much to ask??

In other words: You are thoroughly done with shit.

"I think it´s best you leave," you drawl, even going so far as to incline your head in the direction of the exit.

They remain rooted to the spot, uncertainty written all over their faces. You know exactly what´s running through their heads right now - you´ve been there, a long time ago. Torn between disbelief and astonishment as basic survival instincts tell them to run, and fast. As far as their feet would carry them because whatever is glaring daggers at them over your shoulders right now, something deep down their guts tells them it is not entirely human.

One of them opens his mouth regardless, no doubt to tell you that you can shove it with a bravado that´s more show than substance. Anything to appear bigger than he is, in that moment. You don´t know whether to feel pity or admiration for his bravery. Perhaps a bit of both.

Granted, this is a public establishment and they have every right to be here just like you do. But, at this point, you really fear for what might happen if they were to stay. You are doing them a favor, they just don´t realize it.

"...Now," you cut him off before he can get started, raising your eyebrows as your gaze darts between them, hoping your tone and expression - hidden from the shadows looming behind you - are enough to get the message across:

Turns out, it is enough.

They nearly trip over each other on their way out, drawing the curious gazes of other partygoers.

Good riddance...hopefully.

You turn back around to face your wives with a sigh, hoping you can all just pick up where you left off before those three buffoons made lewd advances towards your women, almost getting themselves extinguished in the process, those idiots-

...Only to find them already looking at you, their expressions quite...odd. They strangely resemble the very trio that just fled the establishment, saving their sorry asses from meeting a rather grim fate, no doubt. There is this mixture of disbelief and astonishment on their faces, sprinkled with...something else.

This feels like your very first meeting all over again.

"...What?" you ask when they simply continue to stare at you. You know vampires don´t have the same need for movement as humans do, unless it´s to catch their prey. But this is getting...awkward.

Then, finally-

Kate is the first to recover, her flabberghasted expression slowly morphing into a, quite literally, wolfish grin as she breaks formation and nearly floats over to you.

"Well, well, well," she drawls, her hands settling on her favorite spot to pull you closer, kneading the flesh she finds there. "Look at our little spitfire, making them all run with their tails between their legs like kicked puppies..."

You release a good-natured scoff at your wife´s silliness, about to correct her by pointing out it had very likely been their looming presence behind you that sent the trio running for the hills.

However, her lips press against yours in a wet kiss before you can do so.

Not that you´re complaining.

A sigh escapes you as you wholeheartedly return it, your hands coming to rest against her chest before wandering up to cradle her face as your embrace deepens in passion.

Things are about to spiral out of control, you can feel it. Kate always has that effect on you. Her daring nature is infectious, making you feel as if the rules and expectations of society apply to everyone but you, and if she were to take you right here, right on this floor, you would gladly-

Hands on your chest yank you away then, breaking the kiss you and Kate shared. Your back collides with a wall, the hands on your chest firmly pushing you against it before a different pair of lips finds your neck. They´re running up and down at a leisure pace, only stopping to press even closer - you feel something wet - before they continue. Then, the pressure of teeth clamping down-

"Now, now, sestra..." Kate´s voice grumbles through the haze, barely a whisper to you, before you feel hands settling on your backside again, squeezing as they try to pull you closer. "Sharing is caring..."

The other side of your neck is being attacked then, and all you´re able to do is crane your head back, offering yourself up like a sacrifice to the gods as each of them devours you in a way that is far from holy-

"Tsk..." Ice envelops your hand then, the chill touch chasing away most of the dense fog that had settled just about everywhere. "Trust the wolves not to leave a single crumb..."

It´s you who is floating now as Irina pulls you close, handling you with an urgency that is so different from her sisters´ as she demands her share. Hands come to rest against your backside again, but they don´t squeeze. Instead, they simply hold on, only tightening their grip to pull you closer before lifting you up until the only thing that remains grounded are the tips of your toes.

"What a delight you are, maličký..." A flowery fragrance wraps around you as your mate´s forehead comes to rest against yours. "Defending the honor of three poor maidens in distress..."

Nothing about your wives is even remotely maidenlike.

The thought makes you snort, which earns you a rather firm clap! on your bum before her lips silence the squeak that wanted to slip out just then.

"Hm...she was quite the sight, was she not?" Tanya´s hand runs up and down your back in a near soothing manner, a stark contrast to the forcefulness she displayed just moments before.

"I think some gratitude is in order..." Kate purrs from somewhere behind you as she draws closer, her heeled boots click-clacking on the hardwood floor. "What do you say, sisters? Shall we show our savior just how grateful we are...?"

After that, everything seems to blur together. You don´t know how you got there, but you´re home before you realize it. The bedroom door closes behind you, clothes fall, and you come to the conclusion that-

The touch of Lark’s hand was cold on Nick’s face, methodical in the way it moved, but lingering every so often, causing Nick’s breath to catch in his throat.

They were quiet, Lark focused on his task, Nick focused on trying not to wince.

Were the circumstances different, they’d probably be screaming at each other until their throats were torn raw. But Lark was apparently concussed – how he’d managed to achieve that he had refused to disclose – and Nick’s sympathetic nervous system still hadn’t completely calmed down after a full minute of believing his son was dead and then reliving multiple traumas at the same time.

Neither of them were at their best right now, and wanted to prevent getting into a fight that was sure to dredge up painful memories they’d both rather leave locked away alongside the skeletons in their closets. There was plenty of time for fighting later. Right now, the soft, tentative silence between them was being held in place with a mixture of bone-aching tiredness, the desire to keep their children safe, and an all-consuming hatred for Willy Stampler which made their personal feuds pale in comparison.

Willy was still out there. In their fight, Nick had wounded the bastard enough that afterward his semi-light-hearted ‘you should see the other guy’ hadn’t fallen flat. Lark, bleeding from his face and about as talkative as a gravestone, got stuck on demon-sitting duty while the others were chasing Willy, trying to make sure he didn’t get away.

Lark had gruffly asked if Nick was okay with him treating the wounds Willy’s magic knife had caused, seeing how Nick wouldn’t do a great job at it in his armless state. Why he’d offered, Nick couldn’t fathom. Why Nick had accepted was even more of a mystery.

Now, after his arm had been reattached and he’d regained a bit of agency, Nick’s gaze trailed over Lark’s toned arms which were so steadily tending to his face, to the look in his eyes that was too concentrated to be tender, but nevertheless devoid of the burning tenacity that used to always be present there.

Okay. So maybe it wasn’t that much of a mystery.

Nick was holding a bloodied cloth rag he’d previously used to keep pressure on the cut, gripping it tight like a stress ball, betraying how tense he was. He was shirtless and vulnerable, and he shouldn’t trust the man who’d loved him and betrayed him, but for some reason, he did.

Lark had cleaned the long cut running diagonally over Nick’s left cheek, and was now gently applying a layer of antiseptic cream that smelled vaguely like cranberries.

“‘S probably gonna scar,��� Lark mumbled, sounding as tired as Nick felt.

“Figures,” Nick said, trying to make his tone light. “Fate’s really trying to turn me into a full-on action hero.”

“Fate’s a bitch.”

“Yeah.”

Lark pulled his shoulders back a bit when he seemed done with the scream, but not his hand. His fingers lingered on the line of Nick’s jaw and he applied a tiny bit of pressure, like a barber moving his head to see the final result. His thumb brushed over Nick’s lips – accidentally? On purpose?

Whatever the intention, Nick’s breath went shallow. Every inch of his bare skin felt hyper-exposed.

Lark’s focus was still on the lower side of Nick’s face, specifically on his lips, as though those also needed his soft-touched care– nope. Cut that thought, Nicky, bad idea. Don’t go there.

The thing was, Nick was pretty sure he could.

He could lean in. He could lean in and close his eyes and pretend that they had both forgotten the past ten years, ignoring how those lonely years had fundamentally changed them as people. He could throw caution and sensibility to the wind, just to feel that spark again.

He wouldn’t. But he could.

He wanted to.

Lark looked up at him, finally. Hesitance and regret swirled in those dark-brown pools, or maybe that was just Nick’s hopeful imagination. He didn’t remove his hand. His thumb stilled on the corner of Nick’s mouth, while his other fingers had trailed down to his neck. His heartbeat pulsed against Lark’s pinkie, betraying the way his body was reacting to their closeness much in the same way as how Lark had seemed to stop breathing altogether.

“Nicky, I…” Lark started.

The door of the med bay slammed open, startling both of them.

Brains worms demand information about the Chris, Mia and Ethan.

The king was paranoid and his children were narcissistic and just wanting to take the throne. The king ordered the execution of the second line, the Winters to avoid usurpers, Chris (alpha) and Claire are part of this line.

Albert(alpha) convinced his father to keep Chris alive and in exchange Chris will hunt and kill all the illegitimate children that could try to dethrone him. This wasn't done because of mercy, Albert is obsessed with Chris, they being distant cousins not affect him he wanted to keep him for himself forever.

His father tell him to kill Claire, but he fakes her death and send her away to maintain his control over Chris ( try to escape she is dead, try to kill him she is dead, looks at someone else she is dead) he is just wanting, making Chris do all the hard work of dealing with the threats to his future reign.

Chris do it, he kills and kills and kills ( man, woman, teenagers, children, babies) until Claire gets information back to him about an rebellion. Then he starts making preparations.

Mia and Ethan (as the dimitrescu sisters) are illegitimate children but of a member of the second line, they are half siblings actually, their mothers planned keep them around until they were olds enough to be of use about 8 year old normally as for that time they features and scent start showing and that can be used as a form of familiarity.

Mia is a wild little shit ( similar to her resident lover version) as she was the one that have zero support or care giving.

When Ethan was born she did her best for him, so he is a lot more calm but still is ready to do whatever he needs to do to save what he loves. Ethan was pretty much the only good thing in her life, so when Chris show up asking(demanding) support to take the throne she makes a deal, she will be the perfect spy/assassin as long as Ethan is safe.

She kills both of their mothers, fake her death and Ethan is send to a trustworthy family allied, the Bakers. He grows to love them just to watch all of them be killed by Miranda orders because Lucas was in deep shit and his family pay the price, Ethan was spared because he was part of the second line.

He is angry at Mia when the reveal happens but still accept her back in his life (their relationship take long to heal) , he accept to marry Karl because he doesn't want more bloodshed (and to be away from the place that brings so painful memories) he tries to be a good husband and alpha as he knows Karl is very hurt too. Ethan is the one doing the heavy lifting of the relationship.

Ethan fall first, because Karl is hard working and loves with savagery, he puts a show of not caring at all but he does, he feels things very deeply and through stubbornness and patience breaks the barriers that Karl put, one by one.

The heat and rut periods are deeply emotional and exhausting, is not all about reproduction and lust, is also about connection, trust and vulnerability.

Emotional needs come first, physical after and emotional again at the end. Both dynamics are protective and territorial when they are in heat/rut and both are dangerous and should be treated with caution.

Things get more rocky with the unexpected pregnancy and subsequent birth of Rose as Karl haven't mourn properly the family he lost so he keeps his daughter and husband at arm length but Ethan is determination incarnate he will never accept defeat ( because he knows that Karl loves them he can see it, he can feel it, he can smell it so he can wait for it)

Mia not likes alcina at all for starters because she remind her of all the haughty nobles that made her existence miserable. But she has a soft spot for the daughters because they have similar background, the daughters hate her but they can't help to go to her when they have bad days were everything feels wrong (alcina tries to understand but there is much she can do) because Mia was a feral child too, she understand them better than anybody.

Acting for so long in instinct alone Is very damaging to the psyche, worst when is done in the childhood. They get better but they will be always living in the edge of human and beast.

So the alcina falls in love first thanks to care and patience that Mia showed to her daughters. She will let them go feral at her when they needed to vent (play fight, biting, growling, scratching, etc), will teach to be proud of this side of them and to use it as weapon also will listen attentively when they have fights with alcina.

Mia falls in love with alcina after seeing the ferocity of her love and the depth of her dedication to her family, because alcina tries to hide how much she actually cares but Mia is expert in reading people, alcina can't hide shit from her ( funny/sad fact Mia is oblivious to the fact that alcina is in love with her but this is because she believes that she is unworthy of being loved)

I came up with their actual name on the spot, just one of the many names I had been considering. Not much attached to it other than it's unique and I like it

Their callsign on the other hand-

They're called "Anchor" because they're very calm, steady, and level-headed. They're a constant that you can rely on, thus being an "anchor". They get whats asked of them done, no exceptions. They're incredibly determined, one might even say stubborn (that's what their callsign was gonna be originally :3)

Some basic facts/info-

Their gender is unknown to the people around them since they're incredibly secretive. People only know them by their callsign, and that's most of what anyone could tell you about them other than they're a hard worker.

They're mute and pretty stealthy, and they don't tend to stay in one place for too long. They have questionable morals considering their line of work, but they try to be kind and helpful to the beings around them.

Appearance wise I have no clue what they look like other than their uniform. They either wear full camo gear and a mask, or all black with a mask/headscarf.

They used to be a soldier, part of the shadow company, but it didn't last long. They then became a mercenary. They're not really into that either, so they try to keep ties with the military still. They occasionally work with the 141 since they're somewhat friendly with Laswell, but the 141 isn't a huge fan of them. They tolerate each other and that's about it.

Another random fun fact is that they own a motorcycle. Just thought I'd throw that in there lmao

uncanny avengers overall thoughts

First, my fave:

my worst prediction for this series was, going off the covers, that Monet was going to be in Penance the entire time in this series, and it would just double down on the worst of all of that. On this front I was pleasantly surprised.

Monet was mostly in character, she broadly speaking felt like herself and looked liked herself. The art in this series was pretty mid in my opinion, but there were a few moments where she looked very much like she did in the bulk of Generation X which I appreciated

I think I've already said that her behaviour in this series is not very in tune with how she would act if all her friends were just murdered. In this series she's briefly violent and vengeance-y, and then just chipper and flirty. Neither really works that well for her (her reaction would more realistically be depressive and inward facing, which would be in keeping with past characterisation). However, given that I don't think duggan would write anything serious for her other than "revenge stabby", I'm glad we got levity instead.

I did not need to see her and kwannon join the line up of characters featured in duggan's "step on me mommy" fantasy series, but at least it was brief.

While I am glad that she's protrayed here almost entirely using her orginal power set and not just the penance thing, it's worth saying that she's nerfed to hell and back in this. She is portrayed as flying sort of once, but in a panel where natasha is doing the same thing so... yeah i'd say that duggan forgot she can do that. She's portrayed as less strong than steve, and as vulnerable to pretty basic injuries. Like... no... she's "lift a car over her head" strong and invulnerable to most injuries. Get it right. Also, every time she uses her telepathy, kwannon inexplicably "helps" her with it. Weird. Bad.

Second, my nemesis:

the fact that this was planned as a 5 issue limited run probably did duggan a lot of favours. His worst habits are curbed by having a set end point in sight and no time to meander about. We didn't get countless dropped threads and subplots that disappear as quickly as they're introduced.

We do see his thing for including a fave of his for no clear reason and with no obvious plan for what do actually do with them (natasha in this case), and that general sense of a lack of point. In general, we also get his hero-worshippy/fanfic esque tendencies in how he treats certain characters.

Maybe it's mean of me to bitch and moan about this guy when it comes to a series that is overall pretty average and hardly rage-inducing. But I do have a point here (if perhaps an unkind one)

Every time a new title is announced with his name attached, some people with be excited and some will roll their eyes. And the excited ones will say "why are you so pessimistic, he wrote xyz and they were fine?". And the eye-rollers will say "No. they weren't. Either they're the first comics you've read so you're not comparing them to anything, or they just didn't do anything with any of your serious faves so you didn't notice."

And that's condescending, but it's fucking true. Every few months another batch of fans start to hate this guy, and it's because he's done something dumb with characters/ideas they care about. But it's never just that thing. It's what he does with nearly everything, and it's just taking forever to people to notice that he's a hack.

and this isn't just fandomy "my fave got a bad shake", although that is how the salt tends to start. With duggan, the technical skill is not there. He can't structure a story to save his life. He loses focus, consistently imparts the opposite of his intentions, and wouldn't know a theme if it slapped him in the face.. and then stepped on him... in high heels.

ok that's unfair. But I am bored with him. I'm bored of this. The same repetative character beats and endless hero worship. In the 70s cap comics, they're not afraid to portray him negatively. Like, they know you'll root for him anyway, so let him be a mixed bag at times, let the story not flatter him at all times. But they've stopped doing that. It's weird.

Evil Stevil could be used as a beat to explore flaws in steve's actual personality, you know? A dark mirror. Or, he could be used to hash out Sam's complicated feelings about his ex-partner (a concept explored more interestingly in fan discussions than in the text so far imo). But no. Here, it's "wow isn't real steve so great compared to blond hitler!". And like, yeah. Whatever.

Stars on Mars: Episode 2

Well, friends. Since Adam was found too hot to be voted off of “Mars” last week, we find ourselves back here for episode two of Stars on Mars. I wish I could tell you that it has gotten less dumb, but I am not here to lie to you.

We open with another Shatner intro, breaking down the concept for us: twelve celebrities, twenty-four days, on a mission to find out if they can “survive on Mars.” Unfortunately for Ariel, this intro includes her calling Lance Armstrong “a real astronaut” and this poor woman is going to be saddled with that for the rest of this show’s run, I’m afraid. Shatner also doubles down on his “Starssssss on Marssssss” line delivery, which I respect.

It’s morning in the hab on “Sol Day 3” and BOY did this show’s production team really love the movie The Martian. Our celebrities begin waking up and wandering around the hab. Schwartz and Adam are in the kitchen, Schwartz apparently washing dishes while Adam pokes around for some food. “Hopefully it’s a nice calm day today, with no emergencies,” Schwartz says, which is an incredibly naive thing for a guy who makes his living on reality tv to say.

“I would BEG for that to happen,” Adam replies, the huge grin on his face demonstrating that he knows there is not a chance that they will have a nice, calm day on this reality show about celebrities pretending to live on Mars. “But we’re going to do something today though, for sure.”

Schwartz VOs that everyone is tired from their satellite repair mission the day before. The Hab AI lets the crew know that they need to keep the hab clean and reminds them again that rations are limited.

Ronda is in the bio-dome tending to the plants and “making a compost.” It appears that they have a pretty robust supply of carrots and a bunch of other greens. Richard wanders in to give her a hand, explaining in a talking head that he is nervous about the food situation, but that also it’s pretty cool that they are growing stuff, adding that “I’ve never done that in my life.”

Adam and Ronda are working out when Marshawn wanders out of his special Base Commander suite, wearing a fluffy white robe and brushing his teeth. Schwartz tells that camera that being Base Commander is a “status symbol”: “It’s like having a Rolls-Royce on Mars. It’s cool.” Lance takes this moment to use Marshawn’s private bathroom, which last week Marshawn explicitly told him not to do. He thinks this is hilarious; Marshawn is less amused.

The group is starting to jockey for position for who is going to be the next Base Commander, since Marshawn’s 48 hours are up. Ronda is interested - she says she always wanted to be an astronaut. Schwartz, on the other hand, says there is no chance he will ever be Base Commander and that he likes doing grunt work and not being in charge. He adds in a talking head that he may be “too passive.” 

Lady AI Voice instructs the crew to pick a new base commander, and as they all gather around the monitor to listen to their instructions Porsha throws her arm around Adam, which is cute. Marshawn says that he will wrestle someone for the position. Most of the cast looks flummoxed, but Ronda Rousey is like, you want to do what? And promptly pins him to the ground. Because she’s Ronda Fucking Rousey.

However, the cast agrees that the actual best way to choose the next Base Commander is to vote. Tinashe throws her hat in the ring. Marshawn says he wants to stay Base Commander and Ariel immediately tells him that he is not going to be Base Commander a second time.

Meanwhile Tallulah (whose chyron this week says she is an “entrepreneur”) is suggesting to Adam and Schwartz that SHE should be Base Commander - a promotion after she was a successful Mission Specialist last week. They are buying what she’s selling - and so is Ronda, who says that Tallulah was great on the coms during the mission: “I heard every word of her encouraging haikus.” Ronda then follows up her supportive words by saying that she’s worried that Tallulah might wander off after a butterfly if she’s out in the field. 

Porsha has the role of talking-head-explaining-reality-tv-basics this week, and she tells us that in this game you have to build social bonds, but at the same time you are all competing against each other. 

Tallulah wins the vote and Tinashe doesn’t seem thrilled. Tallulah says, “I don’t know what prepared me for this, but I’ve waited my whole life to show up for it” which is sweet but also girl it’s a reality show where you are pretending to be an astronaut and so I hope there are other things you are also waiting for. She adds that she’s holding them all in her “heart chakra.”

Adam’s take: “Tallulah is somebody so authentically themselves, and so unapologetically quirky and lovely . . . yeah, this could go horribly wrong.” Cut to commercial.

(Oh, Tallulah also says she’s not going to move into the Base Commander Suite which of course THRILLS Marshawn.) 

Natasha is in the kitchen “getting to know her fellow teammates” which in this case means Schwartz. She tells him she’s never seen Vanderpump but her friend watches every episode. This leads Schwartz to explain Scandoval to the people in America who have somehow managed to avoid coverage of it over the last three months and if this is you, please teach me your ways. I’ve seen five minutes of the show in my life and can still tell you about Ariana and Raquel and that apparently Tom Sandoval has ruined white nail polish for us all.

Also Schwartz says he is recently divorced, and Natasha says, “yeah the pandemic was kind of rough,” to which Schwartz strangely muses, “It was good for our marriage I think.” And Natasha, confused as the rest of us, says, “Why, it ended in divorce.” And I laughed.

Tallulah assigns base duties - notably sending Schwartz and Ariel outside to squeegee the solar panels and assigning Porsha and Lance to conduct health and wellness checks. These health checks appear to include blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and a “wellness” survey.

During Adam’s wellness check, Lance asks him how he’d rate his happiness on a scale of one to ten. Adam replies, “Ten. I’ve never been happier.” Natasha immediately calls him out: “You’ve never been happier? That’s so good to know" and they both laugh because clearly this not the happiest any of them have ever been. Porsha tells Adam that his temperature is . . . good. I am not convinced she knows how to use a thermometer.

Schwartz and Ariel clean the solar panels and complain about doing physical labor; they decide to dump the excess water because “I guess we don’t need it.” This, my friends, is what we call “foreshadowing.” They plod back to the hab as Schwartz talks about how desperately he wants a shower.

Then, a cut to the command room where the screen lights up with a warning: Water Pressure Critical. Then a cut to a water tank outside, which explodes. Then a second tank explodes. Then a third. 

Inside, the crew discovers they have no running water. You know what that means: an emergency dispatch from Shatner. He explains that there is no water! (Duh.) But guess what: there is a bunch of FROZEN WATER UNDER THE SURFACE OF MARS. Amazing that they know that and also exactly where it is! Important Shatner note: if the mission fails, the Base Commander will be up for extraction, but the Mission Commander is going to be safe from extraction success or failure.

Oh my god this episode isn’t even half over why am I explaining all this in so much detail! Jesus. Okay, blah blah blah they have to send the crew out to get the water. Natasha volunteers to be Mission Specialist, primarily because she doesn’t want to go out to Mars and also because as she tells the rest of the group, that she’ll be able to translate Tallulah’s “woo-woo” instructions as needed.

So everyone except for Tallulah and Natasha dons their spacesuits and head out to the surface. The mission is going to involve rappelling down a cliff and then using a tarp to direct the water to a hose that will bring the water back up top. They have thirty minutes to fill four barrels with water.

Tallulah and Natasha have assigned Adam and Ariel to stay at the surface and fill the barrels. Immediately Marshawn says that he doesn’t want rappel down because he does not want to go into a cave “where I don’t know if there are snakes or spiders.” Tallulah sighs and switches Marshawn with Adam.

Porsha rappels first, confronting her fear of heights with encouragement from Richard, Adam, and Lance. Adam goes next, saying he looks “like a gay Buzz Lightyear.” Everyone makes it down and it’s only Schwartz left when Ariel suddenly decides SHE wants to go down into the cave, not stay up top. This causes a crisis in mission command, and Schwartz volunteers to stay because Ariel is clearly “experiencing a little FOMO.” Tallulah sighs and says fine, Ariel can go down, despite that fact that the mission guidelines say that physical strength is needed in the cave and they’ve already lost Marshawn. It is clear that literally everyone except for Ariel thinks this is a bad idea.

Okay. So it takes a bit of time for this crew to figure out how the tarp works, to Lance’s annoyance and look Lance is clearly an asshole but I would be annoyed here too. But they figure it out and start filling the barrels. Everything is going smoothly and Schwartz reports that they have three and a half barrels full and there are still six minutes left. Everyone celebrates! 

Then the hose falls apart, and Ariel can’t hook it back in because it’s too heavy for her. Adam rushes over to help. We cut to a talking head where Ariel says that “maybe” if she “knew how physical” the task was going to be, she would have stayed up top. And . . . girl. 

The pipe gets fixed and the team loses maybe a minute of time. And up top, Schwartz has bad news: actually, when he said they had three and half barrels filled before? He “misspoke.” There were only two and half barrels done.

Natasha and Tallulah are in disbelief. “You said we had three and a half.”

“I misspoke,” Schwartz says again. There are two minutes left.

They keep trying but obviously there is no way they are going to fill another bucket and a half in this amount of time. The mission fails.

Tallulah is directed to go up to the airlock and join the rest of the crew up for elimination. Natasha is left alone in the hab to start selecting people to stay. She chooses Ariel as mission critical first which would not be MY choice seeing as her insistence on switching jobs is the reason Schwartz was up top to begin with, but, whatever.

Anyway, this episode’s bottom three: Schwartz, Tallulah, and Marshawn. The group decides that Marshawn should stick around given that his strength will probably be useful on Mars, and also, he’s not the one who miscounted barrels. 

To me, this choice between Tallulah and Schwartz is clear: it is not hard to count to four even for a man who stars on Vanderpump Rules, and Schwartz should be out of here. Tinashe agrees with me. However, the rest of the crew thinks that Tallulah should have been more forceful as commander and not let people switch jobs willy-nilly. So they say goodbye to Tallulah.

Tallulah says that on Mars she found “joy and deep connections with people" and that she is very proud of herself.

This is a bad elimination!!! Why do I care?? This show is so dumb.

Next week: fire in the biolab! A robot dog! And Marshawn refusing to give up the base commander suite.

probably the way that Jay forces Jason and Tim to re-examine not only each other, but themselves? Like, of course Jay was going to make Jason take a closer look at himself. Of course Jay was going to make Tim take a closer look at Jason. But I really like the way that Jason also re-evaluates his idea of Tim and Tim also takes a closer look at who he is. also, the way Jason and Tim are slowly, slowly breaking down each other's walls and getting closer, the way it's messy and not easy but they keep trying to do it anyways because they both just need each other so badly, even if they don't want to admit it yet. I love making them messy and totally unable to resist each other 💖 and making them in denial about their feelings in totally different ways is also so much fun 😂

look, I just love giving them a good argument born from the fear that they're going to lose each other. I love when Tim gets a chance to cry, and I love that seeing him cry totally snaps Jason out of being angry because he realizes that Tim isn't just mad, he's afraid. But my favorite thing probably has to be that Jason just sort of traps himself into admitting that he considered them to be dating, and then he doubles down on it. He's like, "You know what? Yeah. We're dating. I love you." and as much as I love when Jason runs from the things he's afraid of and refuses to talk about things, I really enjoyed that in this, the thing he was the most afraid of was losing Tim, and instead of running he let himself be vulnerable.

oh, bestie. I am ALSO feral about this one. I am currently at 34k words on it and I'm just trying to resist the urge to upload all of it because I'm doing something I've never done before, which is just let myself write without worrying too much about the exact details of the plot, so I want the padding of the extra chapters just in case I get stuck. This is a chokehold fic, like. I can't write ANYTHING else right now because every time I try to think about writing I just get stuck on this one. Okay, my favorite thing about it. I'm really, really loving writing in Damian's headspace. There's something about writing from his perspective that activates literal poetry in me, and I'm really loving it. I feel like when I write Tim, he tends to be very deadpan and guarded, and Jason is always pretty honest and casual in his own head, but Damian? Damian is so dramatic and conflicted and sad and angry. I love making his anger this calm thing that he just lives with, because he's always lived with it. He's falling apart and writing him so deeply unwell is making some of my favorite lines I've ever written fall out of me. Also, every time I think that I've made him as deeply unwell as I could possibly make him, I find a new way to make him worse 😂 Don't worry, you'll see 💖

As far as I know there’s only one mention of Mush Meyers in actual strike things. The New York Sun reported on a boy named Young Mush who had bet his freedom on outrunning a cop so that other newsies could soak a scab

Newsies Mush:

Nick “Mush” Meyers has been a newsies pretty much his whole life. He doesn’t really remember life before being on. He was old enough to have been in fights (though that wasn’t hard seeing as this was the streets of NYC)

Mush Meyers: He used to have a super cool or funny channel name, but he recently rebranded and just realized he was enough as is. He didn’t have to be Tumblingthroughlife, he was Nick Meyers. And that was enough. Though, he does prefer to have an online name of Mush, so he can kind of separate his online presence from his real life. He always gets someone to film his routines, and that’s mainly what he posts to YouTube

He’s also done some streams that’ll have the names of all the tricks he can do on screen, and the first 15-20 people to donate x amount of money get to make a routine for him.

He also does charity live streams, people donate and they get a hint as to where he is, and he’ll hide in a place around town. The first person to find him gets to donate whatever he’s earned to the charity of their choice. He personally doubles whatever’s been earned. It usually takes at least an hour for someone to find him. If it takes them longer than that, he’ll triple the earnings instead.

🍷[Food Rituals; Mochiie] Mochi’s peeve is food made for the sake of making ‘pretty/aesthetic/art’ food (things like, you get a plate of one bite. He wants food to be filling and nourishing and shareable lmao.) His other peeve is making food spicy just for the sake of it being spicy, disregarding flavor (Zero makes him so nuts. The fact that the smell alone of her preferred curry makes him physically Ill doesn’t help, lmao)

🍻 [Comfort Rituals; Levraut ] depends on if it’s been a STRESSFUL day or a SAD day, lmao. He’s been adventuring now for at least a year and hasn’t done ANYTHING like other adventurers beside sleep on the hard ass ground and take down an empire and have a rivalry turned friendship with tension and nonsense with Kizuna (the main WoL) (his first kiss with Kizuna I thiiink doesn’t occur for quite some time after…. Not one they’d both qualify as a First Kiss. I think it’s Late-Shadowbringers….)

🎂 [Contradictory/Surprising Interest/Trait; Chuusday] Chuu’s first impression on people is usually less than hinged woman who will become scarce the moment the situation no longer interest her; I.E. there’s no more allagan/Garlean tech to look at.. her surprising trait would likely be intense love for Carbuncles. Since she disregards most other Organic Creatures (her Chocobo, Friday is cared for by Tuesday or the stablehands, they have a very Professional relationship and it’s tailored towards combat rather than Transport) she’s not even a proper summoner; her skills extend as far as being able to summon a Carbuncle because they’re the ideal creature. No need for food or water and when you’re busy they can be dissipated into the aether… (but you CAN feed them table scraps… most excellent creature) (Talia and Cid might be the only people to KNOW this, though)

🍰 [Unforgivable Action; Tuesday] it’s hard to find the morality line for him the earlier in his lifetime you get. A lot of his lines had to be programmed or Taught through experiences- but by the time Shadowbringers comes around an unforgivable action ends up being an action that violates someone’s Self (G’Raha was on thin ice for a while because of the soul snatching, the thing Lahabrea did to Thancred in ARR would also fall under this but obviously happened before he was alive lol. The way Minfilia’s were trained and made to do one specific thing, the, being a chosen hero shaped into a Hero’s image, it hits a gray area, but Ranjit firmly placed himself in the red zone through his use of force against Ryne… this was an interesting thing to think about 🥰)

The problem with keeping Obi-Wan alive and using his POTENTIAL death as bait is that Anakin doesn't seem particularly inclined to go apeshit just because Obi-Wan's life is on the line. He's actually MORE inclined to toe the line and act like a Jedi, ESPECIALLY if it's just a possibility. The other example I forgot to add was in AOTC when Anakin gets the message from Obi-Wan that ends in Obi-Wan being shot and captured by the Geonosians. It's PADME who decides to go save him while Anakin is planning on just obeying the Council's orders and staying on Tatooine. So while it's POSSIBLE that Palpatine would've tried using this tactic with Obi-Wan instead of Padme, I don't think it would've WORKED very well because while Obi-Wan is still alive, he tends to be something of a calming influence on Anakin's worst impulses, even when he isn't there in person.

In contrast, we do see what Palpatine is capable of doing when Anakin believes Obi-Wan is DEAD via the Rako Hardeen arc. He is able to use Anakin's pain to send Anakin after Obi-Wan's KILLER. If Palpatine played his cards right, he could easily have worked it so that Anakin fell in order to gain the power to have VENGEANCE for Obi-Wan rather than to SAVE Obi-Wan, and this neatly side-steps the issue of Obi-Wan's continued influence managing to turn Anakin back before he agrees to become a Sith. Palpatine can also promise the power to never lose anyone ELSE he loves ever again, which would likely still be pretty tempting even with Obi-Wan and Shmi both dead and Padme presumably not in the picture.

And what ultimately keeps Anakin under Palpatine's thumb is pushing Anakin so far past the point of no return that he feels like he HAS to remain a Sith in order to make what he's done feel worth it. He loses Padme in canon and remains a Sith afterwards, despite saving Padme being his primary motivation. The reason is because he knows that he murdered all of the Jedi, betrayed the clones, destroyed the Republic, and caused Padme's death. If he stops now, all of that was for nothing. But if he keeps going, if he continues to serve Palpatine, he can tell himself that he did it to save the Republic, that he did it for peace, and it's EVERYONE ELSE who's just continuing to cause problems. You can have the same thing happen with Obi-Wan's death. Palpatine just has to push him far enough for his vengeance, convince him that the only way to avenge Obi-Wan is to kill all of the Jedi in order to learn the power it would take to kill Dooku, and bada bing bada boom, he's ready to become a Sith.

This is why I said in my original post that it might look different if he'd had to use someone like Obi-Wan. He can't necessarily use the EXACT SAME tactics or motivations to get Anakin to fall, but I firmly believe that he could do so. He's got Anakin basically eating out of the palm of his hand by AOTC, all Anakin needs is a few more nudges to get him to fall over that cliff. And just because the nudge that works in canon is the ability to save someone from dying doesn't mean that that's the ONLY nudge that would work.

Yes, I do. I think that Palpatine spends probably most of the ten year gap between AOTC and ROTS working to poison Anakin against the Jedi, encouraging Anakin's belief in his own superiority, and worsening Anakin's emotional instability. When the opportunity to throw Padme back into the mix comes up, he obviously takes it and then continues to take advantage of how that relationship developed, but I don't think he's COUNTING on that as a way to turn Anakin totally dark. Palpatine doesn't work that way all the time. SOME of his plans involve thinking ten steps ahead, making plans that will be years in the making, but many of them involve just being able to switch tactics on a dime to take advantage of a situation that presents itself.

Before Padme comes back into the equation, I think the two most obvious people that Palpatine would've been planning to use would be Shmi and Obi-Wan. He's clearly trying to drive a wedge between Anakin and Obi-Wan, but he's smart enough to be able to tell how much Anakin does care about Obi-Wan and know that that's something he could use to push Anakin closer to darkness. And he DOES take advantage of what happens to Shmi. If you take the rumor about an early draft of the script for ROTS as canon, then Palpatine was actually behind the Tuskens capturing and killing Shmi, so he actually DOES use Shmi to push Anakin closer to darkness. We also see Palpatine intentionally using the war itself to push Anakin into darkness.

Padme is a really convenient tool for him to use when she comes along, but he would never have planned to use her against Anakin until he had the opportunity to throw them back in each others' paths and see what happened. He couldn't have guaranteed that Padme would actually enter into a relationship with Anakin and he has exactly nothing to do with Padme's eventual choice, she makes that bad decision all on her own.

So yes, I think Anakin would absolutely still have turned against the Jedi if Padme weren't in the picture. I don't think it would've looked EXACTLY the same, he probably would've had to use some different strategies to get Anakin to agree to join the Sith, but it would've happened. Palpatine is too good at manipulating situations to his advantage on the fly and he has his hooks too far into Anakin already by AOTC for him not to be able to ensure that result regardless of whether he could use Padme or not.
