Similarly, grafting a shoot from the LDP Petunia hybrida onto a stock of the cold-requiring biennial henbane (Hyoscyamus niger) caused the latter to flower under long days, even though it was nonvernalized (Figure 20.18).

For example, in the LDP spinach (Spinacia oleracea), the levels of gibberellins are relatively low in short days, and the plants maintain a rosette form.

I just woke up from a what’s supposed to be a 20 minutes nap but became 3 hours nap after taking my meds today 😂 can barely open my eyes as I type this
Here’s something random Price HC for you to distract you, not proof read so if it has errors my bad:
Price cared for a small plot of plant at the furthest region of the base he was stationed in. It started with one stubborn patch of green which looked half-crushed by careless boots and was barely clinging to life. Price noticed it one morning during his usual patrol. He paused, crouched down, knees cracking and he’s groaning like an old man he is and studied the struggling little plant. “Tough little bugger,” he thinks.
For some reason, he came back afterwards and poured some water on the poor shrub, and then again the next day, and again on the next next day, watching as the plant loses its yellowing green and grow new sprouts.
He could hardly consider this “farming” or “gardening”, but slowly he started getting more stuff for this routine of his. Like a broken mug as a way to scoop the dirt or picking up a random stray’s dung and pat it into the ground as fertilizer.
The men sometimes caught him lingering by the plants, but no one questioned it. They just assumed their captain was doing some sort of “tactical assessment” of the terrain. If anyone noticed the occasional frost-free patch or the odd green shoot looking a little healthier than before, they chalked it up to luck or nature, when actually it has been the Captain who’s been taking care of the plants on that place.
I don’t know where this is going, but I just think it’s funny to imagine Price walking around and going, “wait, have I watered that bugger today” or like imagining him squatting and fussing about some random plants, talking to it like he’s talking to another soldier.
Something something him being tender to the things no one cares about something something…anyways!! Hope this is enough to distract bud, I’ve yet to catch on on you and Jack’s stuff which I will do later or tomorrow myehehe
Oh this is adorable Gomz !!! Love Price talking to a plant like he's talking to his soldiers. Lots of threats. A (gentle) pat on the leaves. He's so proud when the thing starts getting bigger and stronger. Tough bugger alright. Whenever John is annoyed by his superiors or by bureaucracy, he goes outside and takes care of that plant. Beats yelling at some wide-eyed recruits some days.
Maybe this unlocks something in his brain and he starts to enjoy gardening ?? Nik notices and buys him the required tools next time they're on break together. Price has a small house somewhere in England, with a small garden but he always kept it as practical as he could, nothing fancy. Now he's thinking of growing some plants, some veggies, maybe get his own food so Nik can cook him some homemade meal with homegrown vegetable.
It's a nice little hobby he grows to enjoy, takes his mind out of the job for a few hours and makes him spend some energy (which he always has too much of whenever he's not at work.). Nik loves to sit on a garden chair outside and watch him work while enjoying some tea. It's nice to see John take some time off.

Hey long time no Trigun on here! Some pictures from this collab were recently brought up in a server I'm in and reminded me that it existed so I thought I'd list out the menu here in English for anyone who wants to try and recreate these treats :D
I did this almost a year ago for the collab that was running at that time and it was much longer bc I literally just rewrote the entire website, but this time will ONLY be the menu since this one is like way over I think this was from 2023. Transcript starts under the cut as usual, just a flat rewrite of the menu text my own notes will be in parenthesis, happy gunning trigang idk

Since atla is again having an extra surge of popularity, I'm shooting my shot:
Tumblr media
[ID: (Rest of image description in alt). At the bottom of the image sits the text: "Zuko: Okay. Well, I can't remember how it starts, but the punchline is "leaf me alone, I'm bushed."" ID end].
Did we ever find out what the setup for this joke was? I feel kinda haunted by it. If not- anyone wanna make their best or worst guesses?
edit: I now know what "I'm bushed" mean, but go ahead anyway 👍
haunted thoughts in tags ↓
#atla#the way I was early out for this next surge in popularity 🤗 I was in a different phase by 2020#it's not like it haunts me day and night but it does bother me thinking back on it. please tell me I'm not the only one 🧍‍♂️#I'll have to reblog the 'closure is a myth' post jk#what kind... of joke is it? leaf pun on leave i get. I'm bushed however I dont get. it implies the punchline sayer is a bush at least I#think. but what prompts the 'i am bushed' I dont get. is it not contextual? is it a phrase ive not connected like 'leaf me alone'?#is there anotger layer between leaf and bush? again what kind of joke (social:joke purpose. what is funny? only pun?) + (in-joke set up)?#is it about the kind of bush it is? is it between two plants? the plant & someone picking on the plant like a teamaker collecting?#is it about a plant that has grown into bush and thus (somethingsomething)?? is it not a plant at all? other elements? iroh *what*.#if the creators actually had a setup in mind- I fear it will be lame. but yet I am haunted#it must have cracked someone up for him to try relay it. (set in term of endearment here) 🧍‍♂️👈 *poking him*#either way. me 🤝 zuko @ being bad at remembering & relaying jokes 😁👍#at least in that instance anyway#I mainly stick to irony & sarcasm. running along with an mistaken assumption or replying w something silly & blowing it out of proportions.#puns if I'm lucky. ect. fun when I can reference it later tho I try not to overdo it. not like I'll likely remember it for too long anyway#now to lay in wajt see if anything happens....#avatar the last airbender#zuko#atla zuko#a:tla#my rambles#its lie and not lay is it not.....

my immortal bamboo plant
^yes I am fully aware that sounds like a bad webtoon title
One of my hyperfixations a couple years back was plants. So, for my birthday, I got 5 lucky bamboo stalks, to which I was very excited and very enthusiastic. I named the bamboo こんにちは (Konnichiwa) and put her on my windowsill. And she refuses to die. So I’m gonna talk about her because I am in awe and slight terror of what this plant is fine with. (And I mentioned her in a previous post so why not)
Yes, I did name my plant the Japanese word for hello. I was (and still am) a weird kid. It was also 2020 at the time, and my judgement was not the best. Here’s a picture of her:
Tumblr media
“I thought you said she had 5 stalks?” She did, but four of them dropped one by one. It’s been a couple years since a stalk has turned yellow, which is good because she only has the one left. But she’s still alive and well, in her perpetually unchanged water and underground sunlight. No clue how or why she just. Stopped dying. She’s still here, bright green and beautiful and probably magical. It’s been a while since I did a lot of things you’re supposed to do with plants:
4< years since I changed that water/added fertilizer
3< years since I pruned her/removed a stalk
and very infrequently getting the dust off her leaves.
This plant was given to a mentally odd little girl in the middle of a pandemic. There was no way she would live past a few years. And yet, she made it the COVID-19 pandemic pass. Survived multiple presidential changes. Witnessed over 20 seasons. Heard the grief when my grandfather died. Watched birds fight for seeds under the porch and my dog running after the tennis ball. Been headbutted countless times by my cat. Tolerated being draped with a necklace. Lived through it all, and is still living on.
I’m proud of her, honestly. She’s a testament to life’s ability to be anywhere, to be able to grow when the world is dark. Because each winter, the sun ducks below the horizon, and she presses her leaves again the glass of my window, with conditions that should in no way allowed her to survive. And each spring, the snow melts, the frost dies back, and the sun shines again. Every single time, she’s there, taking in the light she’s been deprived of, challenging the gods, saying “I am here and I am not going down without a fight.” Thankfully, the gods have not fought her for this, and she still sits here, next to me as I write this.
This is not an obituary. This is not a memorial. This is a celebration of the soldier who does not fall in battle. This is a tribute to life and its audacity. This is a letter of gratitude.
So thank you, こんにちは, for being here with me. Thank you for the time we’ve spent together. Thank you for being the light that shines when the world is dark and hopeless. In 24 days, we will have made it five whole years. Half a decade of work and play and joy and sadness. 60 months that changed more than I thought possible. Several times around the sun. A handful of parties for a kid who keeps on growing. Countless memories.
Five years that we’ve had with each other. Five years that I’d never want to forget.
So raise a glass of whatever you’d like, dear reader, and toast with me-
To five years, to the many more that come after, and most of all, to the immortal bamboo. Thank you, こんにちは. Thank you for being part of my life. And thank you, the one reading this, for making it this far. We’re glad you came.
