Disco Elysium Gothic and Lolita Tea Party Part 1: Klaasje and The Smoker LET'S GO BABYYYY!!!
I saw people doing EXCELLENT drawings of Harry Du Bois in lolita dresses and I'm obsessed! But why should he be the only one who partakes? What if EVERYONE gets a makeover and they have a big TEA PARTY!
My desk is now COVERED in Gothic and Lolita Bibles. No one is safe. Things are about to get FRILLY and FABULOUS. I did Klassje and The Smoker first at a request from my friend but I have sketched out many more already 3:)
More closeup pictures underneath...
#Disco Elysium Gothic and Lolita Tea Party#yes I know there's no tea depicted here#there are many tea cups in some of the other drawings I promise#my art#disco elysium#klaasje amandou#the smoker on the balcony#yes I'm still obsessed with Disco Elysium#I am having a wonderful time <3#Is it just me or is lolita fashion making a comeback? I hope so! It's so much easier to get stuff shipped from Japan than when I was a YOUT#I wanted to give Klaasje something cute and frilly but not PAGEANTY because been-there-done-that#so I drew something more gothic because it suits her and because I'm BIASED (as a goth)#Anyway they look very stylish but it is now time for me to draw big buff men in frilly dresses <3#I think my favourite sketch so far is Chester and Mack and Jules gossiping and drinking tea#So I guess I'll do that next#I just love these characters so much and this game#Everyone deserves to let loose and wear something FABULOUS!

Demoralize, Debilitate, Decimate! Is my motto for a totally cute victory
Demoralize - Step one, catch them off guard with my illogical strats and cuteness, thus totally throwing them off any morale that was built and shocking them into doubt
Debilitate - Step two, Use that momentum to further inhibit them and any sense of strength or courage they have, like a poison striking an already sick target. Prevent them from recovering and keep up the pressure!
Decimate - Step three, Go in for the finale! You’ve built enough to be able to take them down in one fell swoop and guarantee a crushing defeat! An opponent defeated in spirit and confidence is an opponent defeated in combat!
(Steps two and three do not work without step one)
(Try at your own discretion I made this up at 12:AM)

Here is my custom Create a Monster Vampire customised to look like a vampire version of Count Fabulous, Draculaura's pet.
I found this heart patterned fabric when I was in Brugge and I knew it would be fabulous for him so I ended up designing his outfit around it.
While I was tempted to just make him stereotypically Vampire in style, I actually leant more into Ouji fashion styles, a masculine subset of lolita fashion since he would be used to being dressed by Draculaura.
His cape is my attempt to replicate the 2015 Draculaura collector doll cape by me eyeballing the general shape and draping it on him. I did intend to add wrist straps too but after sewing down the lines in the wings, it kind of held its shape in a fun way.
This is an incredibly silly custom but I really had fun working on him.

Where to buy lingerie?🥀 Girlhood Tips #1 🥀
Whatever happened to wearing beautiful undergarments while prancing around our rooms? One of the staples of being youthful is now seemingly dead and gone. I love to whine down in my fabulous undies and sway to my favorite songs.
Hopefully we can bring this tradition back! To help kick start this, I’ve compiled a list of size inclusive lingerie brands from cheapest to more pricier items.
(If you guys want more options or help please let me know! I'm a chronic online shopper😭)
$
(1-20 USD per set/item)
AliExpress
Ali express stores is the absolute cheapest option for both price and size…yall already know it's fast fashion most times but some reputable brands from them are (IEUHIA, Wriufred, ChenFa Store, and Aiangelaquin official store)
Not much to elaborate here but they usually have a XXS-XXL
Cannot link the stores but just search up by the shop name.
FreetheFrillies
Handmade undergarments shop based out of the United Kingdom, features both religious and Victorian imagery on their clothing.
Sustainably at a reasonable price is one of their main concerns and they take pride in hand sewing each and every one of their items before they are shipped to you!
Material includes cotton, satin and elastics.
Sizes ranges from UK8/10 to UK16/18
ShopCryBunni
Small indie early brand ran by a student in Salt Lake, Utah! Very simple designs usually solid color or floral garments with a small bow or a flower on top. Very affordable.
Shipping is quick and punctual usually taking 2-3 days on average inside of the US. Internal customers can take up to 2-3weeks.
Sizes range from xxs-L US standard and does not make custom sizing outside of that at the moment.
$$
(30-70 USD per set/item)
AKAMYDINH
Small fashion label based in Saigon, Vietnam. They repurpose factory scraps and excess to make their brand as sustainable and ethical as possible! Their lingerie is simple solid colored bikini style sets with a frill finish. Occasionally with a cherry, bow, or floral embellishment.
XXS-XXL is the sizes offered with a additional custom sizing upon request!
70% of their items are made to order while the other 30% is made by fairly paid seamstresses.
Quick and helpful customer service with an outstanding 4.8 stars. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for simple yet ethical clothing.
Besos Biquinis
Famous tik tok brand that is known for their super cute vintage day of the week panties packs!
Their other items are more expensive like the 100+ range but most of their undies are $40-70 USD
Sizining is XS to XL usually. However, only going up to L in bottoms. Biggest cup size is C-DD cup without band specifics.
Unsure about custom sizing but I’d assume not? It’s always worth it to email! :)
Cute packaging and great customers service from what I’ve hear they also send out PRs soooo….if you have a big following definitely worth checking them out
ShesArMermaidCat
An absolute classic in the coquette community! She makes Dolores haze inspired garments with bloomers and cupcake style tops. The sets are usually solid colored or gingham! Perfect for the more modest Americana girlies.
She’s a gem and has amazing communication. You can also request a custom piece or size.
Each and every set is made to order and is handmade right out of California. 10/10 definitely recommend this shop for every Lolita!
FeelingVaugeVintage
Exotic dancer style lingerie brand. This is for the girls who are secy workers or love that style of lingerie. Much more form fitting, skimpy and trashy which I love and I know there's girls who love it too!
Handmade brand based off of esty who is always running sales. Currently offer 20% off when you buy two and 30% off when you buy three! Great deal an already cheap brand.
Sizing is a standard S-L but with any handmade brand just message the seller and ask if they can make a custom size just for you ;) they are a very sweet and punctual seller and they have well over 16,000 sales and a 4.8 star! Definitely recommend!
PurrfectPineapples
Cruelty free lingerie brand based out of Chicago, Illinois. The underwear is all pinup, vintage rockefeller style. Using vintage prints and designs. The embellishments are simple and usually lace or bows. Most sets include bra, panties, and a garter belt for about 60ish USD which is amazing tbh!
This brand is handmade to order and does take custom orders/sizing. The wait time is anywhere from 2 weeks to a month at most for an order.
Great customer services and many ways to pay including klarna payment plans.
(80-100+ per set/item)
$$$
Malicious designs
Handmade sustainable brand that sells tons of babydoll and lolita style clothes. This business is ran by Sheana Hinesley and is a fairly popular place to shop both on Depop and Etsy! They use standard sizing US S - L and is open to doing custom sizing
I do own an outfit for them and well made and I do think it’s worth the price! Fair warning is that shipping takes. 3 months to a year….. And at times their communication is less than the standard.
Would mainly suggest either buying second hand or through their Etsy for the best experience possible!
International shipping plus esty allows payment plans soooooo
Buttress and snatch.
A handmade and sustainable brand that sells 60's american style lingerie with beautiful craftsmanship. Most of their items have bows, rose, or lace embellishments which are a must for any lolita! They are based in the UK with international shipping. The cup sizes goes all away up to a. 36E/40DD and the bottoms up to a size UK18!
For the more adultish sexy girls they do have see through and fully lace garments. For the girls love the environment they have a line of items that are all made out of 100% recycled cotton shirts! How cool.
The brand also has great customer services and can do custom sizing if needed. If you’re ever worried about size conversion please shoot them an email.
They also have a one cup bra for support for anyone that needs that which I think is absolutely amazing. Definitely worth a look.
Love for lemons 🍋
Extremely well known sister brand of Victoria’s Secret that has absolute gorgeous pieces. Their pieces are packed with laces, frills, and florals! Perfect for a more mature, classy coquette.
Unfortunately not as size or comfort inclusive as our last pick but they do have sizes ranging from. XXS-2X and the cups can go up to a big as 38DDD but unfortunately that’s usually for select items such as teddies :/
One the bright side items such as garters, shoes, skirts, and swimwear is available compared to other brands. International shipping is available as well as sales and discounts. P.s. there’s a sale going on for $30 USD on select items.
Good customer services with no custom sizing however you should always mail before buying if unsure! I’d still pick lemons over Victoria’s any day! Tea.

2nd Week; 5 movies for Lolitas
Hiii (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ You know, I´m something of a movie buff. However, this time I didn´t go for the best, or even the ones I enjoyed most (even if I liked all of the entries, of course) or even the objectivelly (critically) best ones. I think that those are good films for lolitas for various reasons. And spoiler - you won´t find Kamikaze Girls nor Marie Antoinette there. 1. Gypsy 83 Gypsy 83 is actually a goth film, but I feel like everyone who is a part of some subculture should see it. It´s about two friends, one who is struggling as a gay goth kid from a conservative town and one who is a plus size woman (with a lot of mommy issues) and their way to New York for Stevie Nicks night. Speaking of quality in road trip genre, it´s not another Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, but it´s about being true to yourself, even if your surroundings continue to let you down. Also, I love the soundtrack and wardrobes of our main characters! Honestly, maybe just skip it and watch Priscilla, Queen of the Desert? Less goths, but more drag queens. 2. Devil Wears Prada What does beggining of worst era for style and setting in a fashion magazine in common with EGL? Honest love for fashion. Everyone who likes to watch out for trends, or likes their history, should watch this movie about people willing to do everything for fashion. Also, Meryl Streep is really chic here. Everyone feeling too old to dress nicely should watch her.
3. Angelika Even though this might look a bit rough, the story is set in baroque and magnificent French castles. Gothic and baroque - the most lolita-sque of all historical styles. If beautiful set isn´t enough, you will still love costumes! Angelika has a big wardrobe, so everyone will find something. If you don´t know this series of films, you should read about it first. It´s quite explicit, so you might prepare for it. 4. Adéla ještě nevečeřela/Ádela Has Not Had Her Supper Yet Czech film, a period detective sci-fi comedy. We made a lot of them, it was hard to film something contemporary (and even harder to make it any good) during socialism. The influence of Edwardian era on lolita shouldn´t be underplayed, which is why I recommend Downton Abbey, but this feels closer to me. Adéla is a very funny detective comedy with great stylization, which makes it cool to watch even if you don´t enjoy the costumes. Fun fact: Robert Redford was supposed to play main character.
Honorable mention goes to Titanic. 5. Amadeus I heard it´s one of the best films around? Well, it´s not my favourite, even if I adore Miloš Forman, but it´s gorgeous. From costumes, to pre-revolution Prague (don´t let them fool you, Vienna wouldn´t be so fabulour in 1988). Since it´s about the one and only Mozart, a lot of scenes are in opera, which is fabulous. And the mascarade scene? Roccoco i sone of my favourite eras, and it´s depicted beautifully here. Dear god. Theodore Pištěk won Academy Award for this and it´s easy to see why.

Baby's First Pride
I'm 16 and a half years old. I came out to my parents inspired by a story at my school's GSA - just walk up the stairs and call it out. I was terrified, but they were accepting, and I learnt that my brother has trans friends and that Mom even experimented with girls when she was a teen. It's 5:10 PM, so it's probably time to go to the pride event Mom has been talking about all week. She said her boss told her about it, and that it's all ages. I get dressed in my Hatsune Miku cosplay, drape my Aromantic pride flag around my shoulders, and tie the ends in a reef knot around my neck to wear it as a cape.
I go downstairs, putting my Miku wallet in my bag, and take a short video of me twirling around to send it to my friends captioned 'ARO MIKU IS GOING TO PRIDE.' When I get outside, my parents and Mom's friend coo at my outfit, saying I look nice. They say goodbye to Mom's friend and they get ready, and they stop at Walmart to buy 'pride gear' to try and match my look. They get me pins, because they know I love pins.
I listen to my playlist of Magical Mirai albums as Dad drives us to the pride event. He does an illegal U-turn, and I tell him cops aren't allowed at pride, so we're okay. We park.
When we get there, the first thing we notice is all the food trucks. We ate before we came here, because they didn't think there'd be food. The first thing we do is Mom and Dad get alcoholic canned drinks, and they later buy me a cold vanilla latte at a different booth. We start walking around.
Mom's more interested in the concert being held by a queer artist who's name I didn't catch, and she jokes about us going to mosh there. I tell her it's dangerous and that I'm wearing my binder right now, and my dad comments that he didn't even notice.
While we're standing and waiting around, Dad perplexedly exclaims that there's a bar. I tell him as a joke that of course there's a bar, this is pride. He doesn't get it, so I explain the history of gay bars and the Mafia and all of that, and tell him the original pride parade was a protest where parking meters were uprooted and bricks were thrown at cops.
We start walking around to the several booths of queer creatives selling their art, and my eyes are battling between scouting for pins and looking at all the kinds of people here. It's truly all ages, from seniors to toddlers. I see as many visibly disabled and plus-size people as I do visibly abled and skinny people. When we first started walking in to the event, we saw a person in a cutesy lolita-styled outfit with cat ears and tail in the trans colours, in front of someone embracing their trans flag.
As I look around, I see various flags: bi, pan, lesbian, trans, nonbinary, genderfluid. On a couple people's shirts I see the ace flag. But as far as I'm aware, I'm the only person here in this entire crowd wearing the Aromantic flag. It's bittersweet, to be the sole representation of your people.
I see people in all styles of clothing as well: goth, punk, alternative, grunge, trendy, cute, casual, retro. I see some people standing out in absolutely fabulous outfits with sequins everywhere. I see a dog in a gay-coloured tutu, and a person with pride-coloured butterfly wings on their arms. Half the people here have dyed hair of some kind.
We sit down and take a break. It's near the mini waterpark nearby, which makes it fresh and cool-feeling and perfect for a break. A child with endless joys in their heart ends up spraying us with water, and we get a move on. I go around to multiple booths and buy an assortment of pins, one that says "I'M SO GAY I CAN'T EVEN THINK STRAIGHT" and one with a fuzzy Aro-coloured animal on it.
When we sit for a final break, I find two dirty books on the ground as Mom hands me a progress flag pin she found. I pick up the books. One is a 'queer history tour' of Edmonton brochure that has multiple locations of down-town and their associated queer histories. The other book is a mental wellness book targeted mainly at Indigenous folk, but I decide to take it any way since a lot of it advice applies to everyone. I show my Mom the page on ableist language, that talks about replacing words like 'crazy,' 'insane,' and 'psycho' with words like 'wild,' 'bananas,' and 'ridiculous.'
When we start walking back to the car, we see a group of four dressed ridiculously. One of them has massive, bouncing balloon tits, and they stand out the most. I'm afraid of what my parent's reaction will be, and this is what I told them to be nice about before we came, because pride was and still is a protest. They laugh and move on. I'm a little surprised that they're so cool with it.
We stop by the truck at the very start of the walk as Mom comments on it. It's a kink gear store. I stare in awe at the bear pride flag and leather puppy pride flag, telling my family about them. I have to ask one of them to confirm it's the leather puppy flag because I'm not wholly sure, and the people running the truck smile as they teach me about it.
We drive home, and as we walk back to the house, I think about Mom and Dad's reaction to the person with the balloon tits. I think about how they laughed kindly at one of the biggest displays of societal norm defiance I've ever seen. And then I think about the openly disabled people I saw with their pretty canes and wheelchairs, I think about the punks with fishnets and leather jackets and high boots, I think about the emo kandi kids with their black-and-rainbow stockings and vibrant kandi cuffs, I think about the booth run by African black people that stood for trans black liberation, I think about the truck run by kinksters decorated with historical flags, I think about the two feminine-presenting people I saw kissing and the transmasculine gay couple I saw holding hands.
I think about all of us, the societal outcasts that we are, proudly displaying what outcasted us in the first place, without a single person yelling that we're faggots, or trannies, or cripples, or fatasses, or freaks.
And for the first time in a long time, in all my childhood where I was ostracized from the girls for being too tomboyish from the boys for being born a girl, so badly until I started ostracizing myself, I know that I'm safe and welcome, somewhere in the world.

One of my favorite things about the Lolita 1997 adaptation is Dolores Haze many hair styles.
Here is a YouTube video of Mish showing them off. I think she did a fabulous job.
My question is. How many of you have tried any of these?
If you have, and have any pictures, please share them below so we can all see.

Can I get mercs with a pink Lolita boy? Like a pretty little guy who wears cute puffy dresses, this can also be gender neutral by a masc personality paired with Lolita fashion. I hope I'm making sense and thank you
It makes sense don't worry! (I made this platonic)
Mercs with friend who wears Lolita fashion
Scout
"You could never ever make me wear one of those!"
You convinced him to. You have pictures
Scout honestly doesn't really care what you wear unless someone else says something
If they insult you he is up in their face and defending you
Soldier
He might faint if you wear that to battle out of sheer disbelief
But outside of battle he doesn't care what you wear
I mean he's an American he's about freedom and you can do what you want
And he'll defend that belief in front of others as well
Demoman
He may have a similar outfit buried deep in his closet
It was from when he was having a gender crisis
He honestly thinks the outfits look amazing on you and will voice it
He's pretty good at fashion if you want advice
Pyro
If you have a dress in their size they'll dress up with you
They think the outfits are perfect for teaparties
They're honestly offended if anyone insults your outfits and they assure you it's just because that person is jealous of how amazing you look
Heavy
He doesn't make comments on most anyone's fashion and that includes yours
It's your choice what you wear but he will compliment you somedays
No one can insult you tho he'll glare them down until they learn to shut up
Medic
He, for one, thinks you look absolutely fabulous in your outfits
His advice is trash though I do not recommend listening to it he's a little clueless on fashion
Any insults just feal his desire to take the person to his lab for experiments so they better watch out
Sniper
He doesn't voice it but he thinks you look great
Not many mercs have fashion sense so seeing your outfits means he's going to compliment them if he has the confidence
He'll wait to see if you can handler the situation of someone insults you but if they don't stop he'll step in
Spy
He's worn an outfit like that before and he thinks you pull it off well
He's gotten you some outfits as random gifts for his best friend (that's you)
No insults dare to be aimed at your outfits because Spy will end their whole career with a smile on his face

Bunny Brunch: Easter with the Dutch Lolita Community
Reported by Liv Lotte
I myself wore the ‘Pastel a la Mode’ onepiece by Angelic Pretty and red rocking horse shoes to match the oldschool theme of the dress. To add more of a nostalgic ‘oldschool vibe’ to the left image, I edited it to look a bit like an old KERA magazine page. I had loads of fun with that!
All in all, it was a really successful day and everyone looked totally fabulous. I hope you had a lovely Easter (or other spring celebration) as well and I wish a happy spring to you all!

Monster High Reimagined.
Draculaura character bio/redesign.
Lara "Draculaura" Dracula (she/her)
The vampire child of Count Dracula (Mixed Romani-Greek)
(Unlabelled)
(transforms into a horseshoe bat)
When you think of what the child of the Dracula would be like, draculaura is probably one of the last people that'd come to your mind,an overtly emotional, empathetic and sometimes scatterbrained romantic and a vegetarian to boot. Although she's spent the last century or so attending monster high this year she's particularly excited to attend on account of it being the first time her friends and boyfriend are attending since meeting them all in the summer before term started.
Likes: Vegan and Vegetarian recipes,Lolita fashion, motorsports, cute animals and romance stories.
Dislikes: the sight of blood or raw meat, her friends fighting, sharp objects, sudden loud noises and kale.
Killer style: An avowed lover of gothic lolita fashions, there's not one part of draculauras wardrobe that isn't a shade of black and pink and decked out in frills and cute iconography,of which she often modifies to include elements of romani fashion like the sort she wore centuries ago when she was human.
Familiar: count fabulous is draculaura's Indian flying fox, although you'd never guess that considering for all intents and purposes he's basically treated as a small dog, draculauras even tried to have him registered as a service animal for her anaemia, although so far she's been unsuccessful in that endeavour…
Pet Peeve: the disproportionate lack of vegan and vegetarian options at Monster high's cafeteria, which often causes the draculaura to try and make her own food to bring to school, with…varying results.
Freaky Flaw: Draculauras scatterbrained tendencies sometimes leads her to misplace things, sometimes even forgetting her iron supplements or parasol when going out in daylight, with…predictably unfortunate circumstances for the poor vampire, although things have gotten better since she became lagoona's roommate.
Spooky Secret: Draculaura is a self-taught sorceress. However since magic is such a tightly regulated business due to it's innate destructive power, draculaura had to resort to some…less than legal means of obtaining magical prowess, namely Internet piracy. And while she often just intends on using it as a means to boost her energy throughout the day it often ends up more than she can handle.
Dream job: Whilst her family's wealth means draculaura doesn't need to enter the workforce after graduation, draculaura has plenty of hobbies and interests,as well as a burgeoning social life (and one or two things she feels she has to keep secret) to keep her on her toes.
Five Fearsome Facts:
Vampires by nature are carnivorous, and so because of her plant-based diet, draculaura is mildly anaemic. Despite taking iron supplements and doing as best she can to keep a balanced diet she often feels tired during the day (which isn't helped by her natural night-centric body clock as a vampire) and tends to nap during breaks.
Due to her acute bat-like hearing (in part amplified by the huge ears atop her head reminiscent of a hair bow) draculaura can be a little jumpy and sometimes suffers from sensory overload if her surroundings are too noisy, more so since she moved from her fathers castle in quiet, rural Romania to the student accommodation to study at monster high, although the faculty and friends help her out to the best of their abilities.
Draculaura is a big fan of racing and cars in general, with one of her prized possessions being a 1950s vintage roadster (at least it wasn't vintage when she first fell in love with it) kept at her fathers romanian estate, but despite being a deft mechanic and terrifyingly good at Mario kart she's never quite passed the drivers test needed to actually take her beloved motor out for a spin.
Sometime In the past draculaura fell in love with romance novels and with a lot of time on her hands, would sometimes try to write up her own. However after having her heart broken by another vampire she's been hesitant to read or watch much romance media since.
To satiate her desire to still write despite her soured opinion of romance media, draculaura works on the school newspaper,The Gory Gazette attempting to rebuild the students trust after it's previous writer, spectra vondergeist, turned it into a rumour mill in the year before. As a result of all these factors, draculaura's writing style, although not without its authors nigh-infectious charm, is initially a bit too matter of fact for some of the students' taste.
Hey so it's been a while...
I've been working on a bunch of these bit by bit since the frankie one in December, I'm currently planning on posting the profiles for clawdeen, lagoona or jackson/holt next since they consist of the rest of the initial main cast, with the profiles for the other eventual members of the main cast (duece, cleo, ghoulia and clawd) to follow after them, followed by the other kids in their school year and so on and so forth.
Hopefully inspiration strikes and those won't take as long as this one did.
Also as an aside bit of trivia,in this universe Vampires keep a few of the features of the specific bat species they can transform into, draculauras is this guy,a lesser horseshoe bat:
Hence why I mentioned her ears are on top of her head and look a bit like a hair bow
Anyways, hopefully I'll be back soon with another one of these.

I love your work! Do you happen to have any tips for artists looking to get into digital art using procreate?
Sure! I absolutely love using procreate. For whatever reason it’s considered a lowbrow art tool by major studios and companies??? But I can do pretty much anything I’d want to do in Photoshop in Procreate at a fraction of the cost. Plus working on an iPad means portability— If I want to draw in the car, on a plane, in a cafe, etc. I totally can. Glad to see more people are getting into using it! 💖 Alright, onto some tips.
The best way I can think to give tips is leading by example and offering points of reference through my own work and process. If you have follow up questions or are looking for something specific definitely send them my way. ✨😊✨
1. Know Yourself; Know Your Art Style
Whether you’re a long time digital artist or a traditional artist porting over to the digital medium it’s very important to know your work, your strengths, and your personal style. For example, I was very much a traditional artist who delved into digital artwork to keep up with career demands. For a LONG time there was stylistic dissonance between how I drew on paper and how I drew on SAI (the desktop paint tool where I got my start) because what I was subconsciously doing was keeping my style to myself traditionally and just mimicking the artwork I saw online when trying to make digital art.
Here are two pieces I made back in 2018, one traditional and one digital. They're both nice pieces, but if someone was asked which one was definitively one of my pieces they're much more likely to say the traditional piece because it's consistent with my style: limited colors, lineart heavy, etc. I kept trying to divorce from my traditional style when what I should have been doing was taking the extra time to learn how to do what I could already do traditionally in a digital program.
It's especially important to know your style and practice maintaining it regardless of media because the next tip is
2. Invest Time In Watching Others
In nearly every hobby, profession, skill, or interest one of the best ways to hone your craft is to see how other people do it. Hozier said in a recent interview when he's not writing or performing his music he's listening to someone else's music. It's very important to our ability to learn to see how a task can be done to help influence how we ultimately do it. I of course do not mean try to copy someone else's work, which was something I had to learn the hard way when I was starting out in digital art. One of the things I frequently did early on was tried to copy someone's painting technique as closely as I could which resulted in some less-than-inspiring artwork that didn't look much like my usual body of work.
Which is again, something that is easily prevented by just knowing your style.
Some places I go when looking to see how other people draw are YouTube, Tiktok, Artbooks, and Pinterest. Youtube and Tiktok are fabulous sharing platforms usually dealing in quick media where a single search for "procreate" or "speedpaint" yields THOUSANDS of results. Artbooks require a little more financial dedication, but they're great visual references that frequently come with some kind of tutorial in them. Some in my personal collection are Gothic Lolita Punk, Japanese Comickers, and The Complete Masters of The Poster. And Pinterest is frequently painted as a digital piracy war zone, but searching "art tutorial" or "digital art techniques" yields lots and lots of valuable information.
I've been professionally illustrating since 2017 and I STILL go back to these points of reference to see how other people are drawing, painting, etc. Who knows? I may learn something new that takes my art one step further.
3. Explore Brushes!
There are literally Tens of Thousands of brushes that are available all across the internet and I highly recommend taking the time to search google for packs of them. For the first year or so of working with procreate I ONLY used the default brushes that came with the program and while the art was decent I definitely could have used more experimentation to make more cohesive pieces.
As of right now I use a Frankenstein pack of lining and painting brushes that are a mess of brushes I made myself, brushes I got in art packs I found on itch.io or etsy, and some default brushes I've heavily modified to match my style.
I highly recommend playing with brush settings, searching for new brushes, and trying literally every brush you come across to see if you can find a use for it.
I've mentioned it several times throughout but it deserves its own bullet point, so my final tip is
4. Don't Ever Be Afraid To Google It
No artist knows everything. No one who claims to be an expert on Procreate knows absolutely every function, every application, and every trick all on their own--- but between all of us you can find practically anything just by googling it.
I have found super specific pattern brushes, youtube tutorials for pattern creation, configurations for pressure sensitivity, ideas for color palette building, templates for sticker making-- whenever I personally can't figure out someone else likely knows what to do. That's what community is all about!
You are not beholden only to your personal knowledge, so remember google is your friend!
I hope this helped! I tried to pair down the tips as much as I could but I just love getting asked about how I draw. 💖 If you or anyone else reading this has any specific questions you're more than welcome to DM me or send another ask. 😊 Have fun! Good luck drawing!!!

I finally saw the Barbie movie!! Let's talk about the reclamation of pink as a feminist movement.
First, let's start with some history of the color pink! Some may know that pink used to be associated with boys because it's such a bright and bold color. Blue was for girls, since it's much more muted and demure. Then, the Holocaust happened, and pink triangles were used to identify gay men like the star of David for Jews. Pink became associated with homosexuality, just after the Great Depression turned the people's suffering around to attack queer people as a scapegoat. (Fun fact, the word "scapegoat" comes from Jewish history!) Men were suddenly afraid to wear pink, for fear of being seen as effeminate, and it passed to women from there.
Fast forward a few decades, and everything for girls is coded in pink. The "pink tax" is coined in the mid-90s as a way to call out the markup of regular items as they turned into pink-splattered items "for women." Little girls are sold toys covered in pink, and hardly see anything in another color. The idea is that girls love pink, and sparkles, and pretty things. This era of Pink is where Barbie's signature colors really started to solidify. She's pink, and sparkly, and pretty - a little girl's dream!
Then, the little girls grow up, and they realize their performative femininity is distasteful in the grown-up world. They're not allowed to be pink and sparkly, just pretty, but only in a modestly sexual way. Adult women who partake in Pink are less mature, less demure. They don the blues of the past. They're not allowed to be feminine in the way they learned how to be as a child, because they learn that femininity is looked down on. Women are looked down on.
Then, young women grow up, and realize that no matter what they do, they're going to be looked down. The Barbie movie calls this out explicitly- you can't be too pretty, but not ugly either, you have to be maternal but can't talk about your kids too much, you have to have money but not more than your husband and you can't ask for it... the list goes on. Young women realize that femininity is a performance anyway, and you know what? They do fucking like pink! And sparkles! Fashion is fun! These "girly" things can exist in the same realm as intellectual pursuits, meaningful contributions, and a well-lived life. Pink was reclaimed as a force of positivity.
This is also where Lolita fashion comes from! Japanese women became to reclaim "cutesy" styles because it was seen as too childish. Pink is for children, of course, and women who wear it are immature and not ready for marriage (/sarc). So women who were uninterested in marriage leaned into the style as a way to repel unwanted bachelors. It's misunderstood in the West as hyperfeministic, but it's a countercultural movement in Japan.
So, now pink is back on the market. For both women who reclaim the color and for designers who still buy into the 'women will buy anything pink' myth, the revival of Pink is exploding into a trend that we call Barbiecore. In the culture of fast fashion, trends tend to be short lived. Barbiecore was approaching the end of its shelf life, but the introduction of the Barbie movie will revive it to novelty. I've already seen women pull the pink out of their closets (or put it back in) to dress up for the movie. Everyone looks fabulous, too.
