Helaena's "Where would I go?" question. The way she looks so... interested in a way? I can't decide if it's like "Where would I go? I already know the future so I don't know where I could possibly go?" OR... maybe this is the first time someone has presented her with another option... and she is actually totally intrigued. It seems as though she receives kind of waking dreams or visions a lot and can't quite separate herself from the dreaming/real life. I think? Tell me if I'm wrong or if you have another interpretation. She tells Aemond this essentially- even if you killed me it wouldn't change anything. But maybe it would?

I have always said that I LOVE the prophecy inclusion in House of the Dragon because it brings up so many interesting questions. And I think what is the most interesting is the way people REACT to the prophecy- and that seems to be a huge thing in the asoiaf novels as well. You might have a dream or prophecy but interpret it wrong. You may have a dream or prophecy and interpret it "correctly" but go about achieving it "wrong." I'm putting it in quotes because I realize it's much more nuanced than I am describing it. I personally love the idea that the Targaryens are having "correct" dreams about the long night but are trying to solve the problem in the "wrong" way. Like yes, uniting Westeros may seem like the right idea (and I honestly can't blame them for thinking that) but it ultimately becomes a really distracting, brutal, self annihilating side quest? Maybe? Helaena, unlike most of the other dreamers or characters motivated by prophecy in asoiaf, doesn't seem to impose her own ideas or actions onto the prophetic visions she receives. She kind of just receives the visions and she doesn't say- "Oh, here is how I can help this prophecy come to fruition" (like Macbeth or Rhaenyra and now Daemon) or "here is how I can prevent this prophesy from happening" (like Oedipus and Daenys- Daenys being more successful than Oedipus of course lol.) Alicent has also seemed to travel her own "I must prevent the "prophecy" (from Otto) of my sons' death from happening- and yet everything she does to prevent it unfortunately ends up leading to her sons' death...

But Helaena doesn't seem moved to action by her prophetic visions. I think it's because she sees that as futile. It upsets her greatly that she can't prevent the tragedies (like her son's murder.) But! At the same time, she is in a culture that kind of reinforces this idea of passive acceptance. "I can't prevent the evil that I have seen is coming" pairs with Otto's non prophecy real world pragmatism of "this is the way the world is- either play the ugly game or die."

And yet, for the first time in perhaps her life, Alicent asks Helaena if she'd like to go somewhere else- to break script- to break her destined path. And I feel like Helaena seems to consider it for a moment. I think it would be an interesting exploration if Helaena is genuinely asking, "Could I? Could I do this? Could I leave the path that is laid out for me?" I also think it's interesting (and I really love) that it is Alicent that presents this possibility- who has always been such a symbol of walking the path that has been laid out for them. Helaena says later in the episode, "It's all a story. And you're but one part in it. You know your part." But can the part players improvise? Can they go off script? Can they wander off the path? Can they collaborate with the story? Can they change the story?

The finale left me with a lot of these questions. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm just really curious and wish for more exploration of these themes.

A Rant on Viserys Targaryen

His Hypocrisy

The poor dialogue and character inconsistencies in the later seasons of Game of Thrones is well talked-about, but House of the Dragon isn’t exempt.

Starting off with these two scenes here:

Viserys in these scenes could almost be a good man. Almost.

For those who may have forgotten the context, in the first scene, he confronts Daemon about the rumors of him sleeping with Rhaenyra in a brothel. Now while there are underlying issues including personal conflict with his brother, the problem that Viserys has with Daemon and Rhaenyra’s alleged affair, in his words is: She is just a girl.

In the second scene, he’s speaking to his possible bride-to-be, Laena Velaryon. The conversation between them is seemingly casual at first, as they spoke about the dragons Vhagar and Balerion. It only shifts after Laena repeats what Corlys, her father, would’ve instructed her to say. Viserys asks her afterwards what her mother told her to say to him, which was, “I wouldn’t have to bed you until I turned fourteen”.

Around the timeline of the first scene, Rhaenyra was eighteen years old. In the second scene, Laena was twelve years old.

Now according to Viserys, both of these girls are just girls.

Yet his wife, Alicent Hightower was fifteen years old when he’d married her.

I’ve seen a lot of defenses for Viserys since the airing of Season One of House of the Dragon, and most of them discards him of any blame or wrong for the grooming and abuse of Alicent Hightower.

His Incompetence

This particular scene is where I started to root for Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The Small Council are having a meeting when Corlys storms into the room, upset about the loss of his ships and men, due to the attacks from the Triarchy.

Viserys and the rest of the lords that make up his small council disregard his concerns, with Otto Hightower even reminding him to watch his tongue.

Let’s take a look at this map here:

The Stepstones are the little islands that fall between Westeros and Essos. Anyone doing trade from the free cities of the southern coasts of Essos to anywhere in Westeros or even the northern part Essos, will more than likely have to pass through or near the step stones.

The wealth of House Velaryon in House of the Dragon can be accredited to one man, the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon.

Was he a bit(lol) disrespectful in that scene? Yes, he was. But his concerns weren’t petty or unimportant. He built his house’s wealth on trade. Everybody, including Viserys, would’ve faced consequences in a few years, if not months, had the Triarchy been allowed to continue their raids.

Now I mentioned that a lot of my support and empathy for Rhaenyra came from that scene, mostly because of how Viserys dismisses her after she gave a suitable solution to a problem that would’ve affected his kingdom.

If he’d started incorporating her into these meetings, allowed her to interact and become familiar with the small council, she would’ve been a force to be reckoned with.

That scene is why despite him naming her his heir afterwards, I don’t truly believe Viserys was an act done out of honor or duty, but rather him trying to fix the tension between him and the wife he’d killed, Aemma.

The relationship between Viserys and Rhaenyra is one that is glorified by a vast majority of the fandom, but he still failed her, his wives, his children, his brother, etc. (I will address this in part two).

some bullet points:

Felix becomes the sole heir to Applesoft after Ted "runs away" from the family

he and Austin get into a fight which results in Felix being home-schooled and isolated from his peers.

Felix overworks himself and is exhausted

Alice is always willing to help those even if she doesn't completely trust them

Alice meets Felix at his window on the nights where his parents are out of town, just to keep him company

Alice

she's not one to put her trust in other very easily. it takes time for her to open up and for others to understand her completely. but, once she trusts someone Alice devotes herself to helping that person in anyway she can.

think of her as Enneagram 2 to the near highest degree. she's selfless to a fault and that results in a lot of her own destructive behaviours to shine through, even if Alice isn't willing to acknowledge it.

Alice doesn't trust Felix, but she can see him struggling with a lot of internal and external feelings. she may not be good with handling her own wants, needs and feelings but damnit she can't sit by.

especially since she's known Felix for so long.

Felix

a selfish kid that never really had any good influences in his life. throughout the years Felix has stuck his nose up at the group and anyone he deemed beneath him. It seemed he had everything and nothing could go wrong.

until a heated argument with Cindy, who he dated, had resulted in her cutting ties with him. from there it started a downward spiral for Felix of trying to prove himself to everyone around him. Austin got under his skin during their sophomore year, resulting in him and Ted getting pulled from school. a few months later, Ted "ran away" and Felix was left to pick up the slack.

the stress of being perfect and keeping appearances, was getting to Felix, which resulted in him humouring Alice whenever she visited him. soon, he grew to like her company and missed being able to talk to someone his age again. it was then that Felix decided to be a better person, it's a long road, but he's going to try.

i associate Felix mostly with enneagram 3 to the highest degree possible, maybe even leaning into enneagram 5. he's very work focused and isolates himself from the world, not because he wants to but because his parents expect him to.

i'm still trying to put everything together so things are subject to change as i iron out the details lol

Okay so-

You´ll defo get a fat chance to see MC interacting with the Cullens - that includes Bella ofc. In fact, there´s a reason I put them in the tags of my story early on, even though their first appearance won´t be until much later.

The Cullens will play a rather big part in all of it, as MC meeting them will probs set some things in motion that may or may not impact the dynamic between her and her forced-found family (the Denalis). You´re absolutely correct that she has no idea another "variant" of whatever-they-are exists out there. A variant that she might even come to like because that variant seems somewhat sane, at least.

Their eyes are defo less haunting. That´s already a huge plus in her book...

MC will find out what they are for sure. She´s bound to, at some point. Tanya hasn´t taken her in just for shits and giggles. (Kate begs to differ.) Our coven leader very much plans on having MC stay with her them permanently, and there´s only one way to ensure that. You hearing bells too?

As for how MC´s gonna react when the bomb drops? Good question. 🤔

I will say this though: It´s not necessarily gonna be the Denalis who will spill the beans. 🫘

And can I just say I fucking LOVE that you mentioned Rosalie specifically?? Because yes, yes, yes, my girl will play a rather important part when it comes to MC and the Denalis indeed.

It might even be something she welcomes after everything else she's been through.

Alice might be a lil weirdo who takes fashion much too seriously, but there's an undeniable joy to her that's kind of infectious. I imagine MC would much rather deal with a bit of weirdness (which probs includes serving as a Barbie for Alice to dress up) than a whole ton of...whatever it is that's not quite right with her kidnappers. 🙃

Tbh: I don't plan for MC to find out about vampires until much later. There's a few things I got in mind for how and when she finds out, and I did say it's not necessarily gonna be the Denalis who will tell the tale.

The Volturi will be involved in one way or another, I´m sure. My mind hasn´t made it that far yet though, because we gotta get MC settled in first. We also gotta tame Irina first before any other vampires (besides the Denalis) can be introduced to our girl. I need MC to be in a position where ALL members of the family are somewhat willing to go the extra mile to keep her with them safe. Whether that be for personal reasons or because your sister went all coven leader on you...

As for being involved in family affairs/meetings:

Hmm, I haven´t thought about that yet. I mean, they´re vampires. They could discuss matters with her in the next room and she would be none the wiser because they can speak at a volume that’s only audible to them due to their heightened hearing. If they don´t want her included in something, she won´t be.

On the other hand...

Seeing how Tanya has already signed the adoption papers (so to speak), I can also very much see her being adamant on MC being included in family matters from now on. She´s the leader, and while she accepts and welcomes her coven members´ opinions, she can be rather stubborn when she´s set her mind on something (or someone).

Much to the annoyance of Irina. Girl´s gonna hit her breaking point sooner rather than later. 💀

There´s tension alright but not nearly enough if you ask Tanya and there´s a reason for that:

Ofc she´s gonna be romantically involved with MC.

So will Kate.

However, and I cannot stress this enough, it´s a slow burn. Very slow. With lots of suffering for everyone involved. Why? Cause I like em working for it. 🙃

I´ve made a similar post quite a while ago where I kinda explained the main directive of The Sisters. While falling in love is ofc part of it, it´s not the focus of my story. It´s more about staying true to yourself despite the challenges you face, and about becoming the best version of yourself. Finding love can help a great deal with that, but in the end, it´s up to you to face your demons. Where there´s a will, there´s a way.

As for the Denali sisters being experienced with humans:

Yes and no, lol. They´re more experienced than most of their kind for sure, seeing how sleeping around is pretty much all they've been doing for the past century. Besides feeding, ofc. Sometimes they do both at once, and there's the catch-

Getting their fill is all they care about, really. Whether that be related to feeding or...other things. There's never been a situation for them where they felt like they had to be extra careful with their victims flings, simply because they.don't.care. If they make it out alive at the end, good for them. If not, well that's that. There's more where they came from. No biggie. 🤷‍♀️

They have exceptional control over their bloodlust, it has to be said. But that doesn't mean they're gonna overexert themselves with it. Shit happens, so to speak. 🙃

This is huge! This indicates that it’s actually Billy that keep the road in movie/tv-themes, not Wanda or any leftover of her spells. Which we also see mote of later in the episode.

@feroshgirlsims I hope you don't mind me answering this publicly but I've gotten a few new followers lately and I figure some others may also have this same question!

To explain for newcomers, Shadow Moon is actually supposed to be a gameplay legacy challenge, not a story. However, as I started playing Gen1, I got really into the storytelling aspect over the gameplay and ended up pivoting, with the gameplay rules being more guidance for the plot than anything. Because of this, though, the first ~half of Gen1 is a bit of a slog to get through as a reader because it's not really clear what's happening (and also I put dialogue in the captions instead of the pictures themselves, oops). I'm currently going back and fixing the dialogue to be in-image/adding prev+next links to ameliorate this, but it's gonna take a bit to get through and isn't a fixall.

I would personally suggest, especially if you want the full context/setup for things that happen in Gen2, that you start from HERE (link is to a specific page of the SM story in chrono order, so you can just click and scroll on - works best on desktop but should behave on mobile too). The only info you'd be missing is that Eddy Nash, my founder, was Turned into a vampire by Vlad and is bf/gf with Lilith Vatore/has two twin girls with her, while Caleb has been magically turned back into a mortal so he can be a Spellcaster with his partner, Morgyn Ember. Everything else is much more clear from this point in the story (I do change how the dialogue is shown partway through lol).

If you don't care about the setup from Gen1 and just want to read from a good starting point, I recommend you pick up from the beginning of Gen2 HERE, but you might be missing some context. For people who prefer this, I will put the necessary details from Gen1 under the cut (to avoid spoilers) below.

As mentioned, Eddy was Turned into a vampire by Vlad and is currently in a relationship with Lilith, having two kids with her (baby Annabelle and Alice). He plans to propose to her, but with the looming threat of Vlad at all times, Caleb (upon finding out Lilith is pregnant again) becomes overprotective and asks her to leave Eddy and stay with him and Morgyn. Eddy overhears this argument and vows to deal with Vlad then and there despite protests from the others.

Upon barging into Vlad's mansion, Vlad offers to leave Eddy's gf and kids alone if he agrees to be Vlad's heir. Eddy, having issues with negative father figures, rejects this deal, and promptly gets his ass handed to him in a battle. Dying and with no chance of escape, he tries to take the deal now, but Vlad is having none of it. Instead, he comes up with a new deal - Eddy's firstborn son in exchange for his life and his family's safety. Eddy protests, but realizing that he's on death's door and with him gone no one will be there to stand between Vlad and Lilith/the girls, he begrudgingly agrees to the terms despite how awful he feels. Vlad spares him, bringing him inside to heal before sending him back home. Eddy lies and claims he beat Vlad and thus he won't bother the family anymore, earning the respect of Caleb. Much to his relief, the ultrasound Lilith gets later reveals her upcoming baby is a girl.

Unfortunately, things go wrong (for reasons we shall reveal later), and Lilith miscarries the baby. Obviously everyone is devastated, and after some time, Eddy gently proposes to Lilith, bringing her spirits up. They get married, but Vlad subtly reminds Eddy the deal isn't off. As his daughters grow older into teens, Lilith eventually becomes pregnant yet again much to Eddy's horror, and this time she doesn't want to know the gender until it's born. Eddy still can't bring himself to tell her the truth, and thus doesn't mention the deal. During this, a now teenage Annabelle starts hitting on a teenage Sofia Bjergsen, while teenage Alice gets with teenage Lucas Munch. Annabelle's relationship with her parents is already tense due to her unserious, sarcastic nature, while Alice is seen as the golden child.

After Lilith has the baby, it's revealed it's a boy. She names it Adrian, while Eddy continues not to tell her that Vlad will come knocking soon. One night, when both Alice and Annabelle are supposed to be home watching the baby while their parents go out, Annabelle instead sneaks off to the Bluffs with Sofia to piss around, while Alice brings Lucas home and the two get frisky. Lilith and Eddy come back early from their date unexpectedly, finding Adrian crying and Alice busy making out with Lucas. Not long after this, Annabelle also comes back, after having given Sofia a promise ring and telling her to meet back at the Bluffs the next night. A huge fight breaks out between the three women, each one blaming the other while Eddy panics - only for Vlad to finally show up looking for his heir.

Vlad tells Lilith the truth about Eddy's deal much to her horror, and then throws her against a wall when she tries to prevent him from taking her son. Vlad whisks Adrian away, leaving Lilith heartbroken and her daughters horrified at what their father has done. Lilith is furious, ignoring Eddy's desperate explanations, and packs up her belongings/kids and leaves to Caleb and Morgyn's. Eddy is left alone in the Vatore house, Adrian is now growing up believing he's Vlad's son, and Sofia was left abandoned at the Bluffs waiting for Annabelle who never came back (hence the anger we see from her in Gen2).

The rest of the story follows from the start of Gen2!

I have already listed so many things against all these thoughts in the past year alone. You can't beat good ol'e misogyny coupled with bad literacy skills. 🤷🏿‍♂️

I'm so excited to get to work on my own, but first I made this for you!

I did everything in bullet points so it’s easier to comb through :3

Also I've included some mentions of how the character interacts with the reader, but if adding a reader/insert isn’t your style, feel free to ignore it.

KingOfHearts!Eclipse:

Colour scheme is Red, white, and black.

He wears an expensive, but not crazy-looking suit. He has a minimalistic vibe to him.

His rays are sharp, with smaller ones in between. Red that tapers off into bold white at the ends.

The crescent part is red. The shadowed part of his face is still shadowed though it holds a navy hue— or dark red if that looks better (if it is art. Colour theory is my enemy lol)

He has white eyeliner under his eye to make it pop. He has white littered around his design to make him stand out so he’s not just red and black.

He has hearts littered around his design (I don’t have placement ideas yet)

Personality wise he’s very full of himself. Thinks he’s above everyone else— and to a degree, he is. Ready to behead someone for glancing at him.

Everyone fears him and his dark grin.

He loves his tarts. So much so he won’t let anyone else eat them

He enjoys the reader, though he refuses to call them anything but Alice— which the reader isn’t a fan of. He will flatter the reader in the midst of screaming at a guard for sneezing. The reader can do nothing but distract him so he doesn’t behead any poor fool.

MadHatter!Sun:

Colour scheme is yellow, red, and green. 

Everything about him is uneven from his lopsided smile to his bent hat. Any holes in his clothing were sewn up by cloth patches that clearly don’t match the original material.

He has a big bow tie and large hat! 

For the rest of his design, I’ve included the mad hatter picture for the Alice in wonderland live-action movie! I think it suits him decently

He more or less looks like Sun but in mad hatter cosplay lol.

He is goofy, and according to the King!Eclipse, an idiot.

But he is far from stupid. He loves playing tricks and asking riddles. He enjoys baking and is quite the inventor of new foods for his parties.

He is delighted to have the reader join him for tea! So much so he doesn’t want them to leave!

He is definitely off the wall.

Cheshire!Moon:

Colour scheme is purple, blue, and silver.

Sometimes he’s just eyes and a sharp-toothed grin. Other times he’s a robot, somehow lounging in a tree that shouldn’t support his weight.

His grin is too wide, stretching just past his cheeks. Due to this, his mouth can unhinge.

His pupils are cat-like, full of mischievousness.

He has ears and a tail. Striped to match the Cheshire cat. His ears poke out of holes in his hat.

He lacks his shirt but has goofy, fluffy pyjama pants.

His face is mostly the same outside of the cat stuff. The colour is all the same, save for more purple shades and purple accents.

I found a picture that encapsulated the creepiness of the characters! You may also use it as a colour ref if it's helpful!

He is a trickster like his brother, but more of a mean one. He loves temping people down the wrong path in the woods, making jokes and comments that make ones skin crawl— or thats the spider he dropped on you.

He loves to play, and always takes it too far.

He visits both of his brothers— when Eclipse will let him. And enjoys company.

He has made it his sole purpose in life to taunt and bother the reader while secretly keeping them from the dangers of wonderland.

A note about the last donation message ("Ezra keeps noticing me." --> "Ezra keeps paying attention to you"): so aside from incorrect subject ('me' vs 'you'), which happens a lot in korean tl because korean usually leaves the subject contextual, it has this tricky verb which my dictionary explained as "figuring out what someone else is thinking/feeling based on the situation at that time". So another possible translation would be something like "Ezra keeps trying to get a read on you" - but it felt way too clunky, and I went for a simpler option.

hello alice! it’s miya here & yes it’s been a hot minute since i’ve been in your ask box! i recently just had 3 surgeries that were basically two in my nose & then i had to get my tonsils out again so i’ve essentially been recovering from that & not in the mood to talk mostly. I do however hope all has been well with you.

since the finale is right around the corner, I wanted to talk to you about buck’s growth this season. we know in the beginning that buck was upset about not getting picked as interim captain despite the fact that he was not clearly ready, the couch theory & how actually death experiences can reset all the progress you’ve made.

i’ve see a lot of folks saying buck has regressed back into old habits & i’d say that’s not true. Buck agreeing to be a donor in the beginning was something he did because he’s buck but the influence around him saying yes was mainly what connor said to him about him being such a good person & what not. now after he dies buck realized he can’t live based off of how others see him & make decisions solely off of that which is why things quickly ended with natalia. i thought it was funny how she said she needed a minute to think & not 10 seconds later she left 😭. Buck didn’t necessarily chase after her for the sake of getting her back but i think he wanted her so badly to understand & it’s like there is already someone in his life who understands & sees him for who he really is and that’s eddie. it’s hard to see someone who buck may feel like kinda has to accept him for all he is cause that’s his best friend as a potential partner but i think there is a possibility we might see that in the finale.

we know the entire 118 is in danger, now granted we have no idea what that means & since we logically only have 45 minutes to tell this story, there is a possibility of things not being completely wrapped up. i wanted to also point out that the only two people (technically 3 if you count chris) who know that buck does not have a couch is Bobby & Eddie. two important people in his life who buck would quite literally lay his life down for. Buck told eddie that “maybe he does not want to pick the wrong couch again” & then he later on told bobby that “im afraid im gonna keep on making the same mistakes” it’s clear buck wants to go about things differently but it’s a matter of how?

i think he was on his way there but then he died and suddenly life got confusing for him. sometimes i think people downplay the fact that buck’s heart stopped & how he genuinely felt like he got away with something when he woke up in the hospital. of course he is going to go around making the most of life. now the way he goes about it may not be the way we want it to happen but it does make sense for bucks character. he wants to treat every waking moment as a gift & that’s things are a sign cause he feels like he’ll never get that lucky again & that’s ultimately very sad.

i think we’ll definitely see buck in s more bigger leadership position next monday however the biggest difference is that his team will be a witness. his team doesn’t know how buck took charge when the tsunami happened or how he saved eddie’s life during the shooting & i’m still on the fence of if eddie knows that. i hope they see what he’s capable of but I hope buck see’s that he’s already had these skills in him it was just a matter of tapping into them.

the couch theory idk.. they have been making it a point to show buck, chris on the couch & then chris and eddie with a space open for one more as if we wouldn’t notice but idk we will see. maybe buck takes eddie home after everything & he falls asleep on the couch after putting chris to bed & everything kinds of falls into place

anyways sorry for my rambling. i have had all of this on my mind for a while lol but again I hope all is well with yous and that life has been treating you good. ❤️

TBH, I'm not sure what I think. I do expect the finale not to wrap everything up, because they have so many balls they've been juggling up in the air, the bridge collapse will take up a huge part of the ep, so I really don't know how much they can condense into this and address all of the threads that they opened this season. I do absolutely expect that there will be circles that they'll be closing, like Buck moving from feeling dejected over not being considered for the position of interim captain in 601, to acting as captain in the field when the 118 (with Bobby) goes down. And since 601 linked Buck figuring his own life out enough to be able to take this position by linking to the metaphor of the couch, I very much expect to see some return to that, although all may not be resolved in 618. Kind of like how 414 gave us the talk between Buddie to resolve Buck's immediate sense of guilt over seeing Eddie getting shot in front of his very eyes, but it didn't resolve the "make sure you follow your heart" thread that was opened in 413. Eddie still needed to go through it at the beginning of s5 in order to choose himself and be able to break up with Ana in 503. Similarly, Buck was just starting things out with Taylor in 414, and he needed all of s5 to break up with her, even though it was clear they were wrong for each other from the start, and especially as their first kiss was born from Buck's distress over Eddie getting shot in front of his own eyes.

Well I think Ryan just misunderstood what grey morally truly means because judging his words about Viserys/Daemon/Aegon he thinks he has created the the greyst characters to ever grey, especially Aegon who is in the show has two things about him ( women abuse + child abuse) and these are not really personality traits lol. Maybe he wanted his Aegon to be like Book!Tyrion + Theon but he didn't get what truly makes these two grey and complex characters.

Sorry I know that you don't want any Ryan asks anymore but I wanted to be the last anon to rant over his dumb writing lmao

hehe it's okay and yeah probably. But again, he really seems to be wanting to create two sides that the viewer will feel conflicted about whom to root for. And as interested as I was in the idea to developing the characters they stance in the storyline is clear. Feeling sympathy is one thing, wanting ppl to support them is another. They're clearly the antagonist in the dance. That's not even a debate i think. But Ryan wants it to be

The problem isn't only in the male character but also in the female ones. Alicent was clearly an ambitious character with agenda, Rhaenyra was an emotional woman who constantly dared to follow her heart and was rightfully unapologetic about. They had agency and complexity and that was stripped from them.

Mysaria has an underlined tragedy; her early fate affects her actions. The loss of her child makes daemon resent his brother and never forgives him for it. Again. Complicated stuff for complicated people. Ryan scrapped all this off.

idk if he just misunderstands morally gray character because there are so many things he has gotten wrong... And I remind this man has only worked on 4 projects if you include hotd. I have no idea why they'd take someone such a lack experience

ok for the sake of summarizing: unpopular opinion that peter is underrated

so like....i agree with this but idk if it is in the way i sometimes see people agreeing with it. like i have seen people who go "omg peter was actually a great fantastic guy!!! he was amazing i love him!!" in an effort to combat him sort of getting left to the side and. well. i do not think peter was a great guy lol. and of course u can do whatever u want with him in an au but i personally do not usually take an interest in characters unless there is at least a few threads or connections to their canon characterization, bc that's what gets me interested in the first place, y'know?

i actually have talked about peter somewhere on this blog before so maybe i will go and hunt down that post bc i kinda put like. a bunch of my takes in there. (found it here u go!) but basically in the context of a canon universe i think peter's betrayal is incredibly interesting and can be read in a variety of different ways all of which can be fun to explore. i've written two canon-compliant fics where in each of them i took a slightly different route for what i did with his character, but both times peter was one of the characters whose motivations and interiority felt the most complicated to me and i had to spend a long time like....sending voice notes to my sister to work through how i wanted to portray him.

however that being said as with characters like regulus or barty or bellatrix or whoever i am not a fan of people trying to rehabilitate peter's character by erasing his canon flaws. he was a villain in canon for a reason and i think his betrayal + the flaws that go along with it are crucial to his character, so i just find it boring when someone tries to pull a 180 and make him this super-duper nice guy who's never done anything wrong.

i also don't blame people writing aus or whatnot who just....don't really care much about peter and don't want to spend a bunch of time writing him. i think that's valid! the same way that i don't really blame anyone who just isn't interested in certain side characters and doesn't really care about taking the time to write them. HOWEVER. i do agree that there is an interesting bit of discontinuity in the way people sidestepped peter as a villain + death eater + instead became obsessed with characters like barty + evan, and i do think part of that....may come from the fact that peter is portrayed in canon as unattractive (which...jkr's fatphobia is a conversation for another post lol) and the ways i have seen many people engaging with other death eater characters involves making them ummmm. very conventionally attractive. which! idk. i hesitate to generalize abt this issue bc i don't necessarily think it's like a driving force so much as one slightly suspicious variable in a whole host of variables for why anyone might be interested in barty crouch jr. but not in peter--like some people obviously are not gonna care about alice + frank as much as james + lily + will be happier to redeem the longbottoms' villain than the potters', etc etc. overall i think that is just a whole can of worms that i need 2 think abt more before opening lol

Also, a lot of these new actors who keep being announced by leaks sites such as Redanian Intelligence will end up playing very minor roles, but I guess this doesn't stop fans from overreacting every single time lol... For all we know, whoever plays Daeron may have already finished filming (or hasn't even started yet!!) but we can't and don't know this because his scenes were filmed in the studio and guess what, random people won't get paparazzi pictures of that unless they get very very lucky like last week when someone managed to fly a drone over a built-in set and spotted Aemond executing some people inside the Red Keep's courtyard, but even that was, at first, wildly misinterpreted by the Redanian and by the fandom at large who all believed that he was executing the Strongs at Harrenhal, only to later change their story and say the scene most likely took place at the Red Keep since they used the exact same set in S1 for the castle so of course it couldn't have been Harrenhal considering the different architecture…anyway people should just take a break I guess and stop going crazy over unconfirmed filming stuff and even worse, leaks made up by random trolls on Reddit.

don't get me wrong, i don't want to stamp on anyone's fun, so to each their own. i know that accounts that keep track of leaks and filming always pop-up in any fandom and they have followers certainly bc there is demand for this type of content. but sometimes these rumours are just not based on anything substantial, which is why i prefer to focus my energies elsewhere. personally i'd just end up feeling tired chasing fireflies like this

a female daeron would indeed have been a cool idea (seeing a dragon-riding warrior targaryen maid) but it needed to be introduced from the very beginning - now it would just look goofy. why isn't she betrothed to aemond? if aegon did not want to marry helaena, perhaps he would have been more amenable to waiting until daerea was of age? why is she even sent to oldtown? warding for girls is rare in westeros. off the top of my head i can only name rhaena (and she was sent to the eyrie only for her safety during wartime)

The point you bring up about Gaius’ personality taking a dive when Alice comes into the picture, emotion usually only reserved for Merlin (or Uther?!), is really interesting!!

Gaius is, if anything, very methodical on the show, only second to Uther really, and by ‘biding his time’ he’s survived the greatest tragedy of his lifetime, and lived long enough to see the next one occur.

To break that deliberation, for someone who’s seen and endured just about everything, a Camelot citizen (never mind a physician!), is pretty insane- so it’s only fair that Alice, his first love, would be the one to surprise him.

It’s also funny to see Gaius slip into his lying/ gaslighting habit to protect Alice.

I don’t think he’s ever dropped the habit tbh, it’s instinctual for him to lie, like it’s Uther’s second to cast suspicions. It’s out of self preservation up until the moment Merlin walks into his chambers, and then it’s for the good of Merlin. Alice being added under the umbrella is really sweet, but Merlin is made less of a priority to her in this episode.

Whether that’s right or wrong could be debated- he’s already sacrificed so much for the sake the kingdom and his own basic preservation at this point. Would it be wrong of him favor a 'nostalgic fantasy' over carrying a burden he never asked to take on?

Merlin’s existence is shining beacon of hope for the kingdom, but Alice's presence is a different, and more secret hope. The hope that she'll wait up for him in some foreseeable future and the enjoyment of getting to know each other all over again is very tempting… and Gaius 'turns a blind eye' on Merlin’s disagreement for those very reasons.

Good point about Uther! I also think there's no real reason for Gaius to lie to Uther about anything else. He has a (relatively) stable job at the King's side, and enjoys all the benefits of a freeman and high regard in the rest of the Kingdom. Gaius doesn't do much for himself, but he isn't particullarly active in changing the state of the kingdom either, until Merin comes along.

He does always put Merlin’s life above his own, but not necessarily Merlin’s wishes. Gaius grew up in a very different Camelot, and Merlin’s setting could almost be seen as idyllic, compared to the politcal intrigue + backstabbing that mustve been going on shortly after Uther reconquering thr throne.

I have sympathy for him, for this, that lying to Merlin is the same as loving him, in the same way Alice and him have an innate understanding of the Old Court Merlin has a hard time grasping…

His place is in Camelot.

That is a sweet moment, I agree! :) Your comment about Gaius weighing the decision again (of leaving with Alice) twice in a lifetime and still deciding to stay put, makes me really wonder at Gaius’ loyalty to the Kingdom anyway…

It’s not necessarily a love for his King, but more a love for the entire

A deep respect lodged between the flagstones and turrets, and in every laborious step he takes to make his way up to the West Tower. An appreciation for his patients, for the little faces that used to sit by his knee blurring into grownups who’s bedsides he now sits by.

It’s a time-honored respect for traditions, tyrannical as they may be, that keep crowns on the heads of Pendragons and blades in noblemen’s hands.

And that’s something Merlin, and oursider who has much more love for Camelot’s people, doesn’t understand about him.

Breaking Alice out of prison was such a POWER MOVE btw. (Interestingly, we’re not shown or told how he did it, lol. That might have come handy in a few other occasions…)

Don’t you think he’s very proficient in breaking people out, considering how many times he must’ve done the same for Merlin? (I think the second time in ‘A Dragon’s Call’ wasn’t approved by Uther by the way)

And the scene you’re referring to is so funny in canon. There’s so many other occasions where Gaius does the same, just blatantly lying for no reason. As a physician, he could he used to reporting better outcomes than he actually believes, but I still think lying is just one of Gaius’ characteristics (like loyalty is one of Merlin’s), and he’s grown so used it, that white lies are just another tool for him to use everyday, than a conscious effort to falsify the truth.

Gaius is so interesting as a character :)
