well. here she is. miss Leigh Stasik.

trans woman. stubborn, incorrigible, eccentric. communist; she has leftist in-fighting with herself on the regular. a cannibal; she has no moral qualms about this, and its both a bit of a spiritual thing and a bit of a pragmatic thing. medic (not a doctor. no medical license). she knows for sure she had some kind of significant personality change from being shot in the head, but she doesn't remember what she was like exactly before it happened, it all became this kind of distant memory soup. shes originally from west new cali, but she grew very attached to the mojave. and has a lot of contempt for the ncr. She Will Serve Crack Before She Serves This Country. thank god the army discriminates against transsexuals etc. zero tolerance for the legion, obviously.

she firmly believes she is not nice, or kind, or compassionate, but instead her actions and her general sense of justice stem from her simply doing whats the most logical and objectively beneficial. it may be true to some extent, but she might also have a wee bit of ocd of the "i am a horrible person whos at all times like 2 seconds away from committing atrocities" variety.

shes a SCIENTIST. unofficially. she doesnt have a degree nor a chosen field of study. she makes her own hrt and other mysterious concoctions, including designer chems. which she claims she ingests injects etc not for recreational purposes, but to Enhance Her Powers And Possibilities. she reads old world books about psychology so she can manipulate people better. and makes weird contraptions and doohickeys while high. shes a HACKER of course and hacks terminals and systems for fun and just to see if she can.

her stats are out there due to implants and intense training, originally they were rather average. in-game she wears combat armor mk 2, but i see her having spruced it up like this. her main weapon is the ycs/186, the unique gauss rifle, but before that she used a modded plasma pistol. which she very much enjoyed the silly appearance of. because it was so small and with so much shit tacked on and she could just hold it in one hand like a mutated revolver like Hands up motherfucker bang bang bang lol. her melee weapon of choice is the machete gladius, but she's been training to be able to wield a thermic lance.

in my head the trajectory of her actions and the fate of the mojave that follows is different from what you can do with the game, because leigh could only go for The Secret Leftist Route Which Was Supposed To Be In The Game But We Were Robbed Of It.

boone was the first friend she made after leaving goodsprings and their relationship is particularly notable. they are Comrades, Siblings-In-Arms, Worsties (like besties but fucked up). theyve seen each other at their worst. they annoy each other on purpose. theyve had serious ideological clashes with each other and some ways in which boone perceives the world drive leigh absolutely nuts. they're ride or die for each other. theyre the kind of comfortable around each other where she'll be on the toilet and smoking a cig with the door open and talking to him, while he's naked sitting on the floor removing stitches from his leg. she's done surgery without anesthesia on him. he's projectile vomited blood on her from being poisoned by cazadores. she strongly encourages him to become a traitor to the ncr and to take part in the revolution and the formation of the new independent mojave alliance. somehow, it works on him in the end. shamefully they kinda like snuggling... boone bro come to bed man its nighty night man its beddy bye time.

shes in love with lily bowen. i havent decided yet whether she actually makes a move. but she thinks lily is sooooo dreamy. and shes right. if you dont think the enormous 203 year old blue mutant woman is dreamy thats your problem. outta her way

Finale Thoughts

The show stuck the ending far better than I thought it would and when compared to the preceding episodes it knocks it out of the park. That being said, I think because the bar was so low going in, that it makes this episode feel spectacular when really every episode should have done this well, at minimum.

Solo Lessons and Ares Battle

I'm so happy they included the one-on-one training sessions with Luke since its so essential to foreshadowing. I also liked the setting in the woods but why was it like autumn/fall in the flashback lol? However, I think that did unintentionally add a dreamlike quality to the scene which I did really like so whatever I'm here for it.

That being said I do wish these scenes were in episode 2/3 alongside the other chb stuff instead of being a flashback in the finale because it makes it just so on the nose that Luke's the traitor. However, the shot panning from Luke's extended sword to Percy's on the beach ate I can't lie.

Honestly it may have been interesting if they had established some of the solo lessons early on in episode 3 and then done periodic flashbacks to expand on them throughout the series. That way, its not so obvious that Luke's the traitor in the final hour and we also get cool transition shots and establishing that Percy is thinking about what he's learned from his lessons with Luke.

#Relieved that the Ares and Percy fight was not a single sword strike and then cut to black. Glad we had some action. Still think we should've pushed the limits much harder tho.

Oh but Percy's wave did go hard. They actually made the wave much bigger than what happened in the book and now I'm just sitting here wondering why we couldn't see some more of this instead of 10,000 cut to black scenes every time Percy uses his powers.

I wish we had gotten this Ares's reaction from the book when he lost: "The roar that followed made Hades’s earthquake look like a minor event. The very sea was blasted back from Ares, leaving a wet circle of sand fifty feet wide." Show Ares's reaction seemed so anticlimactic in comparison.

And no curse???? huh??

I know Ares was like "we're enemies 4 life now" but the curse and dialogue from the book goes so unbelievably hard: “You have made an enemy, godling. You have sealed your fate. Every time you raise your blade in battle, every time you hope for success, you will feel my curse. Beware, Perseus Jackson. Beware.���

Why couldn't show Ares say that??

Olympus, Zeus, & Poseidon

sorry Olympus could've should've been prettier.

Like Olympus in the book felt a lot more wondrous and lush and colorful. But in the show it seemed so dull. Idk if its cause the "war's happening" or whatever it was just bland. a wash of dull-looking cgi and then an instant cut to the Big Palace.

Lance Reddick's Zeus was amazing tho. He had that godly presence I've been waiting for.

And Toby Stephens's Poseidon? oh I loved it.

I especially loved their conversation in greek.

I still wish however they would have done effects on the gods' eyes. Like glowing with energy or something when they get emotional. I felt like I was waiting to see electricity burst from Zeus when he was yelling at Percy.

And so it turns out that the reason why they changed it to Percy missing the deadline in the show was to create a situation in which Poseidon surrenders a war for his son.

And listen, if this scene existed in a vacuum I'd be so here for it. I guess a part of me can't fathom the solstice being anything other than a hard deadline. I enjoy the scene without context, within context I have mixed feelings about it.

But the "do you dream?" convo between Percy and Poseidon. Oh my god no notes. I loved it.

Some more book dialogue that I wish made it: “You did well, Perseus. Do not misunderstand me. Whatever else you do, know that you are mine. You are a true son of the Sea God.”

Luke's Betrayal

Okay here's where we get some high highs and low lows.

Some things I sincerely liked:

The setting. Fireworks going off in the background. The lantern illuminating the side of Luke's face with the scar. So visually nice.

Luke actively trying to recruit Percy! I've always joked that if Luke was just a little smarter he would have tried to persuade Percy to join his side rather than immediately kill him. And I do like that the show went this direction.

While I do mourn the loss of the scorpion them battling via swords is a great subversion of the sword mentor/mentee dynamic they share. It makes the scene tense and fast pace.

And its all of the above that makes me wonder why we didn't have more of this throughout the show: talking while battling, visually appealing and dynamic settings, unique visuals, etc.

I love how triggered Luke was at Percy's mention of meeting Hermes. I still hate how much Hermes introduction bogged down the show but damn if it didn't lead to one singular funny moment.

Percy getting a hit in on Luke and then immediately apologizing

"I didn't think you'd give the shoes to Grover." Oh that was cold.

Walker and Charlie deserve their flowers and more they were fantastic and carried.

Now things I DIDN'T like:

I don't like how Percy pieced it together with the information he did have... which honestly isn't a lot in the show? If he was going to figure out that Luke was the traitor I would've have had Luke show more of his bitterness like he did in the book. Like the fact the show never even mentioned Luke's failed his quest loses the entire element of Percy succeeding an "impossible" quest and being celebrated while Luke only got a scar and a chip on his shoulder from his failed one.

Luke's scar shoulda been worse idc.

Percy should have been mortally wounded. That's where we run into an issue with there being no scorpion because yeah, a fatal sword injury probably would've been a bit much to depict. I also 10000% think that Luke is enough of a baby to get his daddy issues triggered and then try to off Percy for it even if his original intention was to recruit him.

Also the fact that you see Luke raise his sword for a damning blow and then the very next day you have Percy like "I don't think Luke was trying to kill me." and Chiron agreeing? asdlkfjsdlkf WRONG.

Also, sorry, I don't like that Annabeth was there.

But if you're gonna have Annabeth there, her reaction to Luke betraying her and trying to hurt Percy should've been way more severe than a solemn "I heard everything."

She shoulda been crying, questioning, yelling even if she had suspected him. It's one thing to suspect it, it's another to see the person you consider your family to actually prove it true.

(And this isn't on Leah! It's 100% on the directors cause what was the thought process here? Her brother figure betrays her and she's like :/)

And sure, in the book Annabeth isn't actually all that surprised by Luke's betrayal when Percy tells her about it... but we also never got to see her initial reaction to it. Percy was out for 2 days.

Just, if book Annabeth had been there, she would've been so emotional and that's okay!! let Leah show off her chops!

Sally

I mourn book Sally. I mourn her arc. I mourn the power of Sally unapologetically petrifying Gabe with Medusa's head.

One of the most iconic storylines from the book and it was sanitized in the show to the point that it lost all sense and meaning.

Honestly one of the biggest disappointments of the show for me.

Other

I love the fact that a flower is the searcher's license for satyrs its just so silly and sweet.

I love Annabeth sincerely hugging Percy but also using it for strategizing purposes it feels very on point for her.

Also her braids at the end!! so sweet!

I am very very bitter that Percy didn't see the fates. This + the changes made to Sally's characterization and arc... the show truly doesn't get it.

marcilazzaro1 I have been a part of this sport for 185 Grand Prix weekends (counting the COTA GP weekend that's starting today), I spent the last 123 in Rosso Corsa. I have missed only 8 race weekends during the whole eight years that I have worked in Formula 1. I've never had to take any extended leave. That's why this next months are gonna be so different, maybe difficult, but I'm ready for this next challenge.

my friend @beloveddawn-blog helpfully sent me a list of questions to help me get my creative juices flowing in this massive bout of writing struggles i got going on. ily mwah.

1. Do you prefer in-denial Lance or pining Lance? How about Keith?

basic cop-out answer but it changes from fic to fic. in a more comedic fic, i like to go for lance who is both pining AND in-denial, aka he knows he’s in love and is mad at it, or i like to make keith like so painfully oblivious to lances blatant PLEASE DATE MEs that it’s funny. generally tho i go for gooey whipped mutual pining.

2. Do you prefer Keith to be baffled by Lance's flirting or just baffled Lance is flirting with him?

baffled that lance is flirting with him. the I Do Not Deserve To Be Loved -complex is my favourite complex to give keith bc i have problems and he’s just so easy to blorbo

3. What's your favourite episode and why?

i’m gonna be so real with you voltron was so bad that once i finished s6 at like 15 yrs old i vowed never to watch it again 💀💀 six years later this vow holds true. however i remember liking the first episode, the mermaid episode, the space mall episode, and the episode where keith chases lotor in the black lion and lance is like dude you fucked up. dumbass. but he’s very obviously fond and he’s THERE and they’re gonna fix it together and that is the first time keith realises that lance fully and completely has his back. that is the moment he fell in love to me

4. What's your favourite character beat and why?

i don’t know what a character beat is BUT i am a lance stan as you may have guessed. interestingly, i used to watch voltron with my siblings and as with all character things we did together, we each picked a favourite and then only that one character was allowed to be your favourite. lance was picked before i could pick him but i got keith (and thus have the most merch of him). and honestly….keith is kind of my favourite i never stop thinking about him and also i write in his pov the most (granted, about lance lol).

5. What's your favourite line you've ever written.

oh that’s a hard one! not to toot my own horn or anything but i’ve had some stellar lines, at least i think. i have a lot of lines that are profound or whatever but to this day i’m proudest of the “i’m anaemic” “oh i didn’t know you had an eating disorder” line like i made myself laugh out loud 💀

6. What's your favourite fic you've ever written

eighty percent of my fics are my faves bc i write to indulge myself lol. BUT i’m rly super proud of my look so good longfic, i love the applebees universe, and the beauty and the beast au is dear to me. i’m also obsessed with this fic that only exists in my head bc i have typed nothing yet. it’s a theatre school taming of the shrew au.

7. What is your favourite type of AU? Do you prefer complete AUs (like BatB) or detail AUs (that angsty thing you wrote where Lance leaves after the game show)?

i love modern aus really. i’m a fan of the mundane. as a close second i like redoing movies/songs/books that aren’t usually au’ed. and i like complete aus WAY better, i just have trouble actually completing them 😭😭

aka predicting how the grid will look for 2025:

red bull: max verstappen, daniel ricciardo

mercedes: george russell, fernando alonso (or alex albon, if fernando remains at aston martin)

ferrari: lewis hamilton(!!!), charles leclerc

mclaren: lando norris, oscar piastri

aston martin: lance stroll, yuki tsunoda (or fernando alonso, if he doesn't go to mercedes)

alpine: esteban ocon, pierre gasly

williams: kimi antonelli, alex albon (or valtteri bottas, if alex goes to mercedes)

visa cash grab rb: liam lawson, sergio perez (or yuki tsunoda, if he doesn't go to aston martin)

sauber: carlos sainz jr, nico hulkenberg

haas: ollie bearman, kevin magnussen (or zhou guanyu, if kevin retires)

thoughts, explanations (and a lot of babbling) under the cut:

red bull: maybe i'm delulu for thinking daniel to red bull will still happen lol but it makes perfect sense on paper-- daniel's already familiar with the team and works well with them, he has support from the higher ups, he's a marketing dream, he has a similar driving style and preference to max...

also i know there have been rumours about alex going to red bull again but i don't think he'll do it in the end.

mercedes: i want it to be fernando that replaces lewis bc it would bring the most chaos and drama lol, but it's also a decision that actually makes sense? swapping a world champion with another world champion, and one that isn't likely to want to stay long term (5-10 years)? i guess this is dependent on how both mercedes and aston do this year but 🙏 pls make it happen lol

alex is my second choice for the seat if fernando doesn’t take it. i started making my predictions before james confirmed that alex was signed to williams for 2025, but even with that news, i still think it's a possibility he could go to mercedes. there's been so many whispers in the press about alex wanting to either leave williams or getting offers from top teams, that i can't help but think that alex is trying to gun for a top seat.. and mercedes is his best choice for a top seat imo. not to mention that james did say that he wouldn't stop alex from leaving if he wanted to, and of course the ties with mercedes that james and williams have... it would be easy for them to do some negotiations and make it happen. also i'm sure that george would put in a good word for alex, if alex was interested.

also some honourable mentions, because there's a lot of possibilities to consider: everyone is talking about kimi antonelli and mercedes and i do think that they're going to try and push him into f1 as soon as they can.. i just don't know if they'll take the risk of putting him in the merc seat right away. i'm really interested to see how he does in f2 either way-- if he's as good as everyone says then the results will speak for themselves. i think esteban is a good option too; he's a solid driver (and underrated imo), and more importantly he has ties to merc and toto. if merc wants a more short term option then carlos is a good choice, though it's more likely he would go to sauber. as for mick, i don't think that he's merc's first (or even second or third) choice for the seat, unfortunately for him and the mick girlies. lastly, this one is a bit random but nico hulkenberg also came to mind as a solid short term option (plus, he's german).

ferrari: still can’t believe lewis is going to be driving for them.

mclaren: no notes, very solid pairing.

aston martin: i think the lineup will stay the same if fernando doesn’t want to move to mercedes. i suppose there’s a chance that the rumours about lance going to wec could be true but we will see.

if fernando does go to mercedes then yuki is probably the most obvious choice as his replacement. i also think it’s in yuki's best interest in the long term to leave the red bull family, and this would probably be the best opportunity to do so.

i was actually initially considering checo as the driver to replace fernando — they have history after all, and checo seems to love the team. however, thinking about it, 2023 really took a hit to his reputation as a driver and I don’t know if aston would want him back anyways? i think checo would absolutely reach out to them though if the seat opens up, i think he’s going to try and stay on the grid if it's possible.

alpine: i think both will stay, but if one was to leave it would probably be este (to mercedes?) rather than pierre. if he were to go then jack doohan would be the likely replacement, maybe victor martins if his results in f2 are good.

williams: like i said earlier, i think mercedes is going to try and get kimi into f1 asap, even if he doesn't win f2, and aside from merc itself, williams is the most likely option for that to happen. alex will stay if he doesn’t get the mercedes seat—the supposed red bull offer doesn't start until 2026 and i don’t think he would break his contract to go to aston or alpine.

as for who would replace alex if he does go to mercedes, i would love for it to be valtteri. i stole this idea from @velvetsainz actually, but the more i think about it, the more i like it... the idea of valtteri and james on the same team again tickles me and valtteri is a fantastic mentor (as evidenced by his relationship with guanyu). also i'm fairly certain that toto is back on valtteri's management team again so i can see toto mentioning valtteri as an option for williams in their negotations for the hypothetical alex to mercedes move. is this likely this is to happen, idk, because valtteri did pick sauber over williams in 2021 for a reason but a girl can dream lol

visa cash grab rb: this one was the one i probably struggled with the most ngl.. i think liam is definitely going to be in f1 in 2025 (and deservedly so) but the question of who's going to be in the other seat.. the three main options would be yuki, checo and daniel (if daniel remains at visa instead of moving up, either checo stays at red bull or yuki is the one getting promoted). i originally had the lineup as yuki and liam (and checo at aston martin) but ended up switching yuki and checo around in the end. if checo does end up retiring at the end of this year and yuki goes off to aston then i'm not sure who would replace him..maybe ayumu iwasa? i looked at their list of juniors and am not really familiar with anyone besides him tbh

sauber: this one pains me because i'm a huge fan of both valtteri and guanyu, and they're actually my favorite pairing, in terms of overall vibes and personality... but i would be (very pleasantly) surprised if they both manage to stay at sauber next year. i think it's a given that carlos is going to go to sauber now that he isn't with ferrari, especially with his ties his dad has to audi. i also think sauber/audi would want to start preparing for 2026 and they would also want a german driver to drive for them, hence nico hulkenberg (plus the rumours that they were interested in hulkenberg last year, but ended up renewing guanyu instead).

there's a chance that one of the current drivers could stay, which in that case it would likely be valtteri (with carlos as his teammate, rather than nico). they could also promote theo pourchaire to f1, but i think it's likely they would stick to established drivers, especially during the first couple of years that audi settle in.

haas: the new haas tp has spoken very highly of ollie and with the amount of free practice sessions they have scheduled for ollie this year, it wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to get him on the grid. i know some people think that kevin might retire after this year, but i think they would like to keep one of the current drivers since the last time they had two new drivers didn't go well 😬. on the chance that kevin does end up retiring, i think guanyu is a good shout for a replacement. it might seem a bit random but he's a consistent driver who rarely crashes and more importantly, brings a lot of money and sponsorship, which haas needs.

I fully agree that Cass and Kiera would love the slasher films. Cass likes the more modern ones because quite a few of them have a feminist vibe, whereas Kiera likes the classics because 1) they’re cooler and 2) they were probably the ones Lance showed her first.

Lance and Rapunzel both like the less spooky and more vibey Halloween movies. Like you said, a lot of Tim Burton and Halloween specials. I think Raps would like Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride in particular. I think Lance likes Beetlejuice (in his opinion the musical is much better.) Rapunzel probably loves The Great Pumpkin Peanuts special and all the Phineas And Ferb Halloween specials.

I think Eugene probably also likes the classic slasher films. And like you said, Cat likes the classic Universal Monster films.

Quirin probably watches Halloween movies like the Universal Monster movies, along with some of my ultimate faves- Arsenic and Old Lace and I Married A Witch. Basically Quirin watches a lot of older Halloween movies and I think Varian ended up with those as his favorites. Tbh I don’t think Varian watches a lot of fictional things to scare himself (or at all.) When spooky season comes around, he watches things like Blameitonjorge, Nexpo, Nick Crowley, etc. True scary stories. He probably also loves the internet rabbit holes because they’re kind of like puzzles. (I’m really projecting onto him ngl but it fits okay!)

I feel like Hugo likes “bad” Halloween movies. Failures. Movies that fail so badly at being scary they’re funny. Think Velocipastor (please think about Velocipastor it’s the greatest movie in existence) but I can also see him enjoying Found Footage and along with Varian, “True” scary stories.

I think Hugo, Varian, and the girls watch obviously fake ghost hunting videos and make fun of them. They watch a lot of John Wolfe. I can also see Varigo + Eugene, Lance, and the girls really liking Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost/Mystery Files, along with Too Many Spirits. Which Varigo reenact at one point.

I think Lance, Eugene, and the girls watch the Conjuring series and other paranormal movies together. I can’t see Cass and Hugo enjoying them a whole lot, and Varian and Rapunzel are super afraid of them. I can see Varian and Rapunzel watching The Twilight Zone together. And also those Halloweentown movies on Disney (I’ve not seen them but they seem like Disney Channel fans) Varian, Raps, and Eugene watched the Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina but deemed it not nearly as good as the original sitcom. Eugene and Hugo hate-watch Twilight. Raps watches Halloween baking shows. Lance and Hugo like Rocky Horror Picture Show. Lance and Eugene like Young Frankenstein.

Spanish media have been saying that for a few weeks now…look, I could be wrong, but it’s a weird way to leak the news. Because it will have come directly from Sainz, and if it’s true then Toto yapping about wanting Max is pretty bad form if the ink is drying on a contract with Carlos. So, if it is true, that’s a messy way to have it out there.

But I kinda don’t buy it. Because Carlos would be a bit dumb to sign on for one year. Unless he genuinely thinks he can push George out. Which is…a concept. And honestly Carlos would be that confident. But still, that level of uncertainty at this time in his career is very risky. Then again, there are rumours that he doesn’t have faith in the Audi project yet.

I don’t know what Audi’s plan is, and I think that’s what we’d need to know to know what Carlos wants to do. Because how they’re going to fix the structural issues in the team is the key. I don’t think Carlos is going to be want to be in a team that’s on a 5 year rebuild plan like Williams. So unless Audi has some concrete plans to just inject cash and new personnel immediately, I’m not sure I see Carlos signing on for 2025.

What he really needs is the Aston seat. Daddy Stroll needs to give his son a hug, release whatever trust fund he’s holding over Lance’s head, and let the kid go snowboard or something. A Sainz/Alonso line up at Aston would be incredible. Upper midfield team on the rise that will be all his when Alonso retires is exactly what Carlos needs. Ughhhhh can we just have one nice thing goddammit!!!!

I do think some kind of deal with Merc is looking the most likely because there doesn’t seem to be a lot of options for him, but if he does go to Merc I think he will move in 1/2 years.

i personally think you are 100% correct.

Keith isn't good with words. but he has his moments where he says the right things. although people always act like Keith is a badass or an asshole (he is at times lol), he is also extremely awkward and struggles with interaction.

he means well, a lot of the time, but he just sometimes tends to say things that are either unintentionally rude in context, like how you pointed out here

the pep-talk he gave Lance was inadequate because he didn't realize that Lance isn't as secure (in himself and his abilities) as he makes himself out to be. part of this falls on Lance too, as he should communicate that he is insecure, but while others might offer comforting words, Keith struggles with it.

the most interesting thing to note here is that Keith tried to be light-hearted, and it made Lance seemingly more insecure. Keith is also dealing with his own insecurities in his position and that shows here too. he tries to hide it with aloofness, but you can just feel him hestating in his small confirmation to being leader.

Lance: I've been doing some math. With Shiro back, that makes six paladins, but there are only five lions. And if I'm right, that's one paladin too many.

Keith: Solid math.

Lance: Look, when Shiro takes over the Black Lion, you're going to want your Red Lion back. If I get a lion, I'd have to take Blue from Allura. But she's progressed a lot faster than any of us did. She might even be able to unlock powers we don't know of.

Keith: That's true.

Keith is being logical, and honest, but i don't blame Lance for him being upset at this. it is upsetting to hear someone agree with you when you're insecure already. that is basically what Keith did here, even if it wasn't his intention to.

Lance: So maybe the best thing I can do for the team is step aside.

Keith: What are you talking about?

Lance: This isn't a participation game. This is war. And you want your best soldiers on the front lines.

Keith: Stop worrying about who flies what and just focus on your missions. Things will work themselves out.

Keith, in this moment, is literally blind-sided by this statement from Lance. his expression shifted from neutral to shock. he was genuinely confused about the fact Lance even thought about stepping aside. even his reaction to Lance's comment "you want your best soldiers on the front lines" is logical, and therefore comes over as rude. he is telling Lance to stop worrying about wether he is good enough or not, because he thinks he shouldn't have to tell him that he is a valued member, as literally his right-hand.

Lance: Okay. Thanks.

Keith: And, Lance...leave the math to Pidge.

Lance thanks Keith but it isn't really sincere, mostly because Keith didn't really help. Lance needed validation and comfort, but instead he got logic and misplaced light-heartedness.

neither did anything wrong, but the communication didn't land. Keith didn't really realize Lance was feeling insecure and Lance went to the wrong person for this conversation lol.

i wasn't going to keep cluttering people's dashes up with my ffxiv stream-of-consciousness posts. but after a chance run-in with @arcanistvysoren in the dusk vigil one night, i was encouraged to make more. so, hey! heavensward! that was a lot!

one thing you can always count on final fantasy to do is give you leitmotifs. sad scene? leitmotif. climactic battle? leitmotif. quest accepted? leitmotif. hey, dragonsong is nice. why not?

it's difficult to overstate how habitually this game throws beautiful atmosphere at you and makes it look effortless. i know i keep repeating myself, but it keeps being true. the quiet desolation of riding through the coerthas western highlands at night with a blizzard battering you and fog obscuring the horizon. ough

i was looking forward to royce's role as a self-exiled ishgardian in this part of the story, and i was very much not let down. heavensward spends a lot of time emphasizing what an irreplaceable asset the warrior of light becomes to ishgard, so the bitter taste that she would have experienced during the early coerthas ARR quests rises to a nauseating pitch. oh, now the ishgardian authorities care. now they want her around. now they want to heap praise on her for pulling them out of the fire. when they did nothing to help save her squad five years ago and went damnatio memoriae on her when she vanished. they're lucky she's too heroic to let them burn.

i'm not exactly sure how she works through her feelings by the end. i'll have to think about it. write about it, maybe. we'll see.

the dragon plot is fine. it works! it's cool! it's all very mythic in scale and appropriately tragic. i'm just more drawn to the expansion's mundane side. it's easy for final fantasy to get carried away with itself when it's got aether and primals and multiverses flying around, so we need the periods where we deal with interpersonal conflict to keep it grounded and speak to lived human experience.

i mean, the windows into how ignorant ishgardian citizens are and how deep their religious indoctrination actually goes? that's meaty. a church covering up everything from their archbishop's love child to the history their core theology was founded on? that's the good stuff

god, it's hilarious how much estinien and aymeric were engineered in a lab for fans to fall in love with them. they're elves, they're tall, they have deep voices and piercing eyes and swooshy hair, they're brooding, they're burdened with great and terrible responsibility. estinien is beat-for-beat the "character 1" archetype of otome games: mysterious and mean, but defrosts over his story arc. you have dinner at aymeric's house! the dev team had to know that these fellows were going to have a following and leaned into it.

What are the conditions that would make shelter mountain lose interest in a human besides defiance and resistance to training? What would make them kill a pack human who is otherwise obedient and not threatening to the pack's harmony?

for the most part, it all boils down to those two things. just about anything a human could do to lose favor falls under defiance (or is at least considered “defiance,” even if it’s done out of fear). combative behavior, silent treatment, hiding, not showing proper deference or submission, not referring to the alpha by title, refusing direct orders…honestly the shelter mountain reader does a lot of things that would normally be a problem, but lance is obsessed (and so is blake) and more importantly, they’re trainable.

shelter mountain can forgive just about anything as long as max is noticeably having an effect on the human's behavior. no progress whatsoever for weeks would be enough for even lance and blake to start reconsidering, it’s that big of a deal. for any other human, it would be a death sentence. they’re not going to kill someone who’s obedient not bothering the pack harmony, they're not quite that bad yet lol (if you meant "otherwise obedient" as in "not responsive to training but keeps their head down," they don't consider that true obedience. either max can break you and you'll stay, or he can't and you won't.)

He crouches down, towel draped over his shoulders, clean shirt already a little damp around the collar from the heat. “No, Su-Hyun, you’re not bothering anyone. Lexi has just had a lot of plans this week, and it’s teenager stuff, nothing you’d be interested in. We didn’t want you to have to tag along and feel left out.” It’s not entirely true, but if they’re little white lies to save a child’s feelings, Darcey figures it’s all right. Lexi does have plans, and Su-Hyun would be bored. And Su-Hyun and Jin need to stay together so Su-Hyun can help translate when Darcey isn’t at home. Su-Hyun looks down and scuffs a blue-socked heel against the carpet. Darcey gently puts a hand on her shoulder and says, “Hey, hey. You’re not a bother or a problem, all right? This is a weird situation for everyone. I’m sure it’s hard for you to be away from your friends and your home for so long. What city do you and your mom live in, now?” Su-Hyun nods. She sniffles and wipes at her eyes with the heels of her hands. “We live in Goyang,” she murmurs. “So yeah,” Darcey says sympathetically. “You’re used to a way bigger city with much more to do. Much better transport. You probably feel pretty trapped here, huh?” Everything is suburbs spread far apart.” Su-Hyun nods.

Kawashima introduced himself as "the rumored yabai guy of Reiwa", while Hanae was introduced as "the rumored yabai guy of Heisei", the latter definitely met the description immediately.

The Aniplex Booth is very crowded and lively!

Kobayashi: Our guests right now are these two (referring to Kawashima and Hanae)! ; Ishikawa: *enters the stage suddenly, using his baby Lance voice* BABU BABUBU!! ; Everyone, including the audience: *is surprised and shocked* ; Kobayashi: Babu? Babu---EHH?????

Kobayashi: WHY?! ; Ishikawa, still using his baby Lance voice: Babu. Babu. Babu. ; Kawashima: Um, Kevin-san! (possibly calling a staff here?) There's a baby wandering on stage here!

Kobayashi was wondering why Ishikawa suddenly arrived, he thought Ishikawa was at another series' stage, but Ishikawa said he wasn't. He said he was free, noticed Kobayashi was on stage, and asked the staff if he could join on the stage as well. Ishikawa was allowed, and that's how he ended up there. Kobayashi was in disbelief at how easy that was.

Kobayashi: "Anyway, somehow, Ishikawa Kaito is here too!" and Ishikawa introduced himself. The seiyuus and the audiences were so surprised at his appearance!

Even though this talk happened live, the seiyuus did end up saying A LOT of NG words that had to be censored in this archive lol.

Kobayashi, reading the fan letter: "Chiaki-kun, Reiji-kun, Hanae-san, good afternoon!" Oh, Kaito-san is here too, you know!

The fan letter was about how excited and anxious the writer was knowing there were two yabai people meeting up on stage and live, because in this condition there wouldn't be any Power SE to immediately censor the NG words. Ishikawa: Wow, feeling anxious too?!

Kawashima: Kaito-san is here but the mail didn't acknowledge him? How rude! ; Ishikawa: No no that's not true, I AM the rude one here! I am stealing you three's spotlights here!

The next fan letter didn't acknowledge Ishikawa's appearance either lol, it seemed like the letter was already received in advance so no one was prepared for a sudden Ishikawa's appearance.

Kobayashi, after reading the fan letter: Kaito-san is here too, you know! How rude! Is his existence not acknowledged?

Since the fan letter talked about how the writer was about to go through an exam and was motivated by their favorites, the seiyuus proceeded to talk about their motivations to go through difficult things. Kobayashi went to ask Hanae about his motivation when he lost in an audition. Hanae: Recently, I lost against Chiaki ; Kobayashi: What??

They talked about the part where Ishikawa had to do the baby talk as Lance. Hanae noted how difficult that was, and Ishikawa expressed again that he really had a hard time (in the previous radio session with Kobayashi he said that it was the most difficult time he had as a seiyuu), but Ishikawa also added that Eguchi managed to do all the baby talk in just one try and he was so shocked.

Ishikawa: There's a possibility that (the reason why Eguchi did the baby Dot so well was because) Eguchi did that kind of talk in real life?!

Kobayashi and Kawashima praised at the amazing gap between Ueda's roles and her actual personality at work.

Kobayashi notes how the dance in the opening of the second season (referring to BBBB dance) is so popular, and the seiyuus are all impressed at how it creates so much buzz, so many mails are talking about the opening. And then Kobayashi says that they got a mail from Creepy Nuts themselves for the seiyuus, the staffs, and the audience! They were grateful to be able to perform the song at the recent concert, and thanked the anime staffs who created the amazing opening sequence. They hope that fans will continue to enjoy the series alongside the opening as well.

Kobayashi adds that while the series itself is already pretty great, the opening's impact is really huge for this series' huge spike of popularity as of late, to the point that a lot of people, and a lot of the Mashle seiyuus including the current ones on stage danced to it.

The next fan letter that Kobayashi reads requests all four of the seiyuus on stage to do a live BBBB dance, along with the audience! Kobayashi follows the request, everyone is going to dance!

Kawashima, Ishikawa, and Kobayashi are concerned about Hanae being very close to the monitor. Kobayashi: Don't ever destroy the monitor, Hanae-san! ; Hanae: I won't! ; Kobayashi instructed the audience to dance carefully and not forcing themselves to move a lot since the space was very limited, make sure they wouldn't bother people around them, a little dance was fine!

Kobayashi, panicking at Hanae's extremely wild dance: OI! HANAE-SAN!!

Kawashima danced just like he did for the Youtube/Tiktok video, including how he fell out of frame!

Kobayashi and Ishikawa wondered if it hurt, falling down like that, and Kawashima said yes that did hurt.

Kobayashi: And it's time for the ending! ; Kawashima: Wait, already?! I haven't talked a lot of yabai things yet... ; Hanae: Me neither...

Hanae suddenly shouted Inorin's name, saying that he already did the Mash Radio session! It's censored here because Inorin wasn't part of the cast but in the LIVE version he did shout for Inorin's name. Hanae: Ueda-san is nearby, riiight?!

Kobayashi: Please don't suddenly shout women seiyuu's name out of the blue like that!

At the end of the LIVE radio, Kobayashi asked the seiyuus and the audience to shout: "Shuu Cream (Cream Puff)!!" together! With a small Ishikawa's "Graviole" voice at the very end, that's it for the Mash Radio LIVE!

she has a really strong relationship with may and angelique because she saw them more than her own parents

she genuinely loved romeo, and he made her feel really seen - romeo was someone in the same place she was, who understood how she was trapped

juliet fakes her death as she does in r&j, but her parents catch the friar and he reveals the poison is fake. the capulets use this as an opportunity to threaten romeo into disappearing. when juliet wakes up, they tell her he killed himself

the marriage to francois is arranged by the capulets as a way to get a foot in the door in french politics

after her parents take may, juliet loses a lot of her optimism/hope

she and romeo have a wedding in a casino in vegas

may's parents traded them to pay off their debt to the capulets

an excellent shot, may doesn't miss unless they intend to

hey!! love your fanfics, you're such a great writer and it never ceases to impress me whenever i reread your works !!! (your jevil characterization is delicious. i know you get praised to high heavens for the adds and spam, but i think jevil is a bit underrated and you do him such justice!)

i was wondering if you would consider it feasible in your fic for spamton to get some sort of antipsychotics/mood stabilizers. (I've seen you talk about him potentially getting medical help for his glitching, to help lessen the severity just a bit, which i quite like the idea of)

i think the main hang up i have with this is that i have no idea what darkner therapy/psychiatry would look like. what the mechanics of such a system would entail, what the meds would look like, etc. or if it would even work, considering spamton's. everything. and i sincerely doubt spamton would ever talk to someone about his mental health. ever. for like. a lot of reasons.

honestly i've thought long and hard about him getting some stabilizers of some kind because it wouldn't be impossible, considering he's some sort of malware that, albeit different than virovirokuns, still obviously harbors viruses. It's just getting him that tender loving care that's difficult but he'll get to it with some help from his buds. They drag him to see an ambyu-lance (or even ralsei in his nurse getup lol) and from there, he sees the true extent of how messed up he is on the computer-malware-scale. Lots of emotions with that :')

i agree with you on the last part. Though i think physically he'd be down for alleviating the glitching as much as possible, it's unlikely that he talks to someone about everything going on with him mentally. He has Jevil that understands what he's gone through, to a degree, but he's stubborn and also he physically can't admit a lot of it due to the aftermaths of his time being puppeted.

(though i had this idea of swatch kind of persuading him to talk to one of their swatchlings that has had an interest in acting like a therapist. sort of like a 'give it a shot' thing. Spamton is not happy about this but reluctantly goes along with it. Spamton-esc chaos ensues?)

I think this is obvious. I just love Alex too much. Sadly this weekend wasn't great for Williams and it stressed me so much that Valtteri was on a mission to snatch P11 from my boy, but Albono's defending is so good, still sadly no points😭😭

2. Sergio Perez

This was a very hard decision, but I thought it's true for me right now and I can still change it back later so now Checo is on second for now.

I'm so obsessed with this man, I even wrote a Chestappen fic. It rarely happens that I'm so inspired that I actually put my ideas on paper.

FP1 made me want to cry and the German commentator couldn't stop hating (it wasn't really hating, just stating facts with a negative untertone, but it annoyed me) and I'm really starting to dislike Ralf Schumacher, he's always acting like he's so much better than every other driver lol (easy to say those things when you're not driving anymore, yes I'm looking at both of you, Ralf and Nico). But honestly I'm exaggerating, they're not that bad.

Also all the memes about Checo's crash. I was desperatly looking for posts that empathize with him and only found memes😭

The race today was great tho. I would've loved to see him get P2 and I believe it would've been possibly, but I don't know anything so whatever. And I'm super happy for Lando and podium is podium. And driver of the day is well deserved. Checo knows how to gain positions. Now he just needs to start performing in Quali again :D

3. Charles Leclerc

Not the best weekend for Ferrari. The race today was a mess for them. Charles' first pit stop made me want to cry. It did seem like the team was trying to fuck Charles specificly over, with the water problem and that pit stop. I just want to see Ferrari back in the front.😭

Honerable mentions:

Nyck and Daniel. I just have to talk about that. I can't really be happy for Daniel. I really started to like Nyck and I think there is a reason he got into F1 in the first place. He's a good driver and I really believe that he just needed more time. I understand that the team felt like they needed to do something, but to Nyck it's unfair. I just hope he gets over the pain quickly.

And Danny deserves better than Alpha Tauri. Like what is he supposed to prove in that shit box. Also I am so obsessed with Checo that I'm still so scared that they might drop him if Danny does really good and I keep thinking what would that mean for Yuki? etc

Now after the weekend, I still don't know how to feel about the whole situation and I actually started avoiding Danny content, which is stupid and sad. Danny deserves a seat and it's not his fault that the circumstances suck.

the Haas boys. Never thought I would say that, but I kinda dig their dynamic.

George. I've been thinking about George a lot lately and I really like him, but somehow he is super weird to me. Idek what exactly, somehow everything about him is weird, but lovable. From his stupid big eyes and his ridiculously long legs, to his strange laugh and his accent. I really don't know anything about the differences in british accents but his accent is the weirdest to me. I like it and I understand it perfectly, but it's just weird (I'm sorry, I'm not trying to offend anyone😭)

Also his PR stuff is so cringy. I love how he's just embracing it all, but it sometimes feels like he is an old man, who doesn't understand the internet but loves learning about it😭

And his race was impressive af. He really knows how to drive.

Fun fact: my brother thinks he should be Mercedes' first driver.

Lance. I've grown extremely fond of him. He's just a sweetheart and getting dangerously close to my top three. I might have to take him into consideration soon.

He's a cat. I love cats.

Initially I disliked him for the dumbest reason (being a rich kid), but even then I knew (or I was expecting) that the day would come that I start liking him and here we are. He's the kind of person I would want to be friends with.

Logan. Through Alex I've become somewhat of a Williams fan. And I really like it when Logan has a good day. The FPs were great for him. The race sucked tho (whatever happened there), but he didn't seem too mad about it.

Lewis. I couldn't believe my eyes when he took pole. I was so happy, but then the race start was so bad😭😭

And I feel incredibly bad that I didn't want him to get P3😭

He was just so close to Checo in the last few laps and I really wanted Checo on the podium. Please don't get me wrong, I would have loved to see Lewis on the podium. I would've loved to see him win, but with Max, Lando and Checo in front, I just couldn't cheer for him😭😭😭😭

Lando. I love this man and I just want him to finally get a win. But it seems like he takes P2 as some kind of win, knowing that Max is just unbeatable.

Max. His hair.

Also I just need to say how much I love it when Max speaks German. The Dutch accent when speaking German is like the cutest thing ever and I'm really impressed of how confident he is in the language.

And there's my internal Red Bull dilemma. I drink a Red Bull for every Quali and for every race. I don't want Red Bull and Max to keep dominating, but I want Checo in front and Max deserves to win because he is that good. Do I support Checo or the Red Bull domination by drinking too much Red Bull?😭😭😭

Either way, I love Red Bull and I will keep on drinking it lol. Also I might be a RB fan at heart. Still Ferrari all the way, but I came into F1 being a RB fan, because of rallye sport and almost every driver I like there, is driving for RB. And then there's what they did to Alex and Pierre and now Nyck.

It's a love-hate relationship.

Valtteri. I don't think I ever said anything about him here. I love this man! He is such a vibe. Just doing whatever the fuck he wants and slaying every second of his life. He's not at the top of my favorites, but generally speaking, he might be one of the coolest drivers on the grid.

In terms of race positions, I like to see him doing good, but I like to see my favs in front more. Alex > Valtteri, I had to cheer for Alex there.

Zhou. I'm positively neutral about Zhou,  I don't know much about him, but from what I've seen so far there's not much to dislike. But here I just wanted to say that I loved seeing him slay Quali. Alfa Romeo in general. It's good to see them in better positions every now and then. The start today was just unfortunate.

Carlos. I was surprised by how Ferrari was treating Carlos today. It seemed like the team was actually listening to him. I hope they sorted themselves out and they keep being nice to my man Carlito😭

But the German commentators kept saying that Carlos Sr. is already looking around for a seat in a different team for his son😭

I love him in Ferrari, but I would totally understand if he wanted to leave. But I also saw something about the possibility of him joining Audi and I gotta say, as much as I love Ferrari Carlos, seeing him in an Audi would be so cool! Might be because Carlos Sr. is driving for Audi, but that doesn't matter. It'd just be cool.

Pierre. I'm starting to find my love for Pierre again. It's not nearly as strong as it used to be (obviously, as he's not first anymore lol) For some reason I didn't really care about him for a few weeks, but it's coming back now. Also bad day for Alpine. Must be devastating, a DNF for both cars and it not even being their fault. I hope they're okay and don't kill Zhou.

Esteban. I'm starting to dig the whole Alpine dynamic. They might not be the best of friends but they make it work and I love that.

And still, I'm obsessed with Este's accent and I keep coming back to the squirrel clip. I just can't with him.

Also he gives me young Jeff Goldblum vibes, idk why, but I love it.

Might be the hair. Or the sunglasses.

Oscar. It's frustrating to watch Oscar almost get on the podium. He deserves a podium, he's an incredible driver and I'm happy that the car is finally good enough for him and Lando.

Yuki. Now that I named 18 drivers, I can just say some things to the last two as well. Yuki is such a cool person. I wish he was higher on my list (the honerable mentions are in no particular order). And like I said before, I'm a little scared of what Danny's performance means for him.

Fernando. I like him a lot. I like his laugh and his accent. He's serious but silly and he treats Lance well. I like to believe that he has no evil master plan and just actually likes Lance lol

Sometimes it seems that Aston is the only team that works together and just like Lance said, it's romantic.

Also Strollonso might actually be my favorite ship currently. They're so unlikely, but they just work and it's cute. Thay might not be a Lestappen or a Carlando, but they have my heart just as much and I need more content.
