While I definitely think the mind stone had a massive effect on Loki in the first Avengers film he definitely wasn't under full control, in fact I don't even think that's how the mind stone really works, definitely not like Clint and Selvig were.

What I think happened was Thanos tortured the hell out of Loki, and here's a silly little gorey through for you, forced him to battle other beasts, and if he won, his prize would be dinner... He would be forced to eat his fallen opponent.

Anyway, this took a toll on Loki until he finally broke, and that's where Thanos stepped in with the mind stone.

See, Thanos is evil, but he's not stupid, and he knows that loyalty born from respect and admiration is stronger than that of fear, that's why people die for their loved ones as he's probably seen countess times while invading planets. So he took Loki's broken mind and twisted it, the torture, the pain, the suffering, removed everything, his entire memory of being tortured, but he kept the loyalty. He filled Loki's mind with peace, promises, and purpose because that's all Loki's ever wanted, to belong, all thanks to the glorious Thanos.

That's what the mind stone does, it grants you peace, and a purpose, it makes everything... quiet... it doesn't make you do things for the wielder, it makes you want to do things. That's why Loki never spoke up about his experiences, he doesn't know where the mind stone stops and he starts, and he doesn't remember the torture.

Whenever you disobey the influence you experience something like withdrawal, a deep sense of panic and fear, of loss, of losing yourself and your purpose. This was severely amplified with Loki as he already suffers from intrusive thoughts, hallucinations (when he's having a really bad episode) and having no sense of identity (especially after Thor 1).

Then years later on the ship after Ragnarok Bruce Banner gets the sneaking feeling that Loki wasn't behind the attack. He questions Loki, asks him things like "don't you remember throwing Clint off a building?" or "don't you remember when you held Natasha hostage?" things that never happened and Loki just agrees because it was all a blur to him. That's how Bruce finds out about Thanos sending Loki.

Asgard royal family headcanons! (Specifically about Loki and how he relates to each family member).

• I really like the headcanon that Frigga was pregnant before Odin took Loki, and she lost the baby. Mostly because it makes sense logically (that would make Loki easy to explain! He's not some random baby that spawned out of nowhere, they can just say he's the child she was pregnant with!). But also, it adds another layer to their relationship: he's an adopted rainbow baby.

• Because of this, she remembers baby Loki very fondly, romanticizing the memories a bit. I'd even dare to say she remembers Loki as an easier baby than Thor, even though, objectively speaking, that's not true at all. Loki cried more, screamed more, needed special care. Which was to be expected: he was way too young to be separeted from his mom, and the bright lights and warmer weather of Asgard (in comparisson to Jotunheim, that is) were bad for him. Odin even feared that it would be too much to Frigga, that she would beg him to take Loki back or something, but his fragile state just made Frigga want to take care of him more, and she rarely, if ever, complained.

• Odin's feelings were very different, of course. He remembers Thor as the easy baby, because Thor was predictable. Familiar. He didn’t need special lights for sensitive eyes or cold cloths pressed into his forehead to be able to sleep in hot nights. He did all the things, both cute and annoying, that an Asgardian baby is supposed to do, expected to do. Nothing more and nothing less. And of course, he wasn't a secret and a stolen child.

• The golden child vs black sheep dynamic was set from the start, is what I'm saying.

• Odin's treatment of Loki has so much layers that it probably deserves it's own post, so I won’t talk much about it here.

•Constanly comparing him to Thor. Sometimes it was subtle, but sometimes it was literally just saying "Why can't you be more like your brother?"

• I'm not sure what Asgard's stance on physical punishment would be. Like, I can definitely see some people thinking it makes kids stronger or whatever, but Idk.

• Regardless of what the common Asgardian stance on hitting your kids is, I don’t think is something Odin and Frigga would automatically jump to with young Thor and Loki. Frigga doesn't want to hurt them, and Odin prefers other forms of discipline.

• He's definitely not above hitting, though. It may not be his go-to method to actually teach them things, but a smack for talking back from time to time? It has happened, especially with Loki.

• Every punishment happened more with Loki, actually. Odin knew he specifically hated time out, because of how it forced him to think about what he did wrong while completely alone in his room. Sometimes he'd come out ashamed of himself, sometimes he'd just be angry. Either way, he wouldn't willingly talk to Odin for the rest of the day, either completely isolating himself or clinging more to Frigga. Most of the time, Odin wouldn't even notice, and for Loki, that was the most painful part.

•Frigga genuinely loved Loki, but she also had a hand in perpetuating the racism against frost giants (either by action or by compliance) and let a lot of Odin's treatment of him slide. She also had a "defending the person who isn't in the room" approach to conflict, so in the rare occasions that Loki vented to her about Odin, though she was a good listener, she didn't really validate his feelings that much? It was always "I know your father can be difficult, but he just wants what's best for you!" or "I guess he could've been nicer about it, but is he wrong, honey? You already know he doesn't like it when you do that."

•When it came to defending Loki (or speaking up about how Odin was raising both him and Thor in general), she mostly worked in the shadows. She’d argue with Odin about it when they were alone, but never in front of others, and Loki took her silence as agreement, basically thinking "Well, if Mother doesn't speak up when Father is so harsh to me, maybe it's because she agrees. And if she, who is the kindest person I know, agrees, maybe I actually do deserve it."

•Despite all these issues, she was still the person Loki felt the safest around, and a very self indulgent hc I have for them is that they had a special place they would go to when Loki was exceptionally upset. Maybe it was a special room in the palace, or a library, or a garden, or even a little house in some woods nearby. Regardless, they'd stay there for some hours until Loki was feeling better and ready to face the world again.

•At some point Loki decided he was too old to keep needing her this way and that he needed to change that if he wanted to be taken seriously, so he stopped going to said comfort place with her and overall leaning on her too much. She was pretty heartbroken, not only because of that "Damn it, my kid is growing up and changing" feeling that leaves a lot of parents distraught, but also because, knowing Loki too well, she knew that this sudden change came from a place of insecurity and wanting to be taken more seriously by Odin, Thor and his friends, mentors, and pretty much everyone.

•Thor and Loki's relationship as kids was innocent and simple and pretty much what you'd expect from 2 kids who are royals and raised in a culture that values warriors and strenght: lots of competion and sibling rivarly, play fighting, but also a lot of teamwork.

•Thor took his big brother title very seriously as a kid. Yes, he teased Loki a lot, but he was also protective and sweet. Whenever they went on little adventures together, like exploring some place they weren't supposed to go, he'd put Loki's safety before his own.

•This might have been half fueled by Frigga saying "Take care of your brother" whenever they went out to play, or by Odin constanly saying that Thor was the strongest one between him and Loki (see 6th headcanon). Probably both.

•The real problems started in their teenage years, when the golden child vs black sheep dynamic became more obvious. Thor was the perfect stereotype of an Asgardian warrior and king, and was surrounded by friends (and potential romantic partners) who also reached some amazing standards. Meanwhile, Loki was a quieter, more fragile looking and weirder person, with an interest in magic, a different way of fighting, an aversion to most social gatherings and no friends. Most of Thor's friends just tolerated him. Some took interest in him the same way someone would take interest in an exotic animal: they'd listen to him for a while, just enough to see if he really was as weird as he looked, and then leave as soon as they got their answers and their fun.

•This, along with Odin's favoritism becoming even more obvious, really soured Thor and Loki's relationship, leading to some arguments in which pretty cruel words were said by both of them (I might write this).

Series Loki, Avengers Loki and the "real Loki"

Okay so, I've been wanting to write about this for a while now, I always see people talking about how much they love series Loki because that's where he's most comfortable with himself— and I agree, I love him too and I think it's great that he learned to accept more some aspects of himself and got more comfortable with showing vulnerability to others as well as allowing himself to make meaningful connections with the people around him

BUT

Saying that Avengers Loki is not the real Loki just tells me you don't really understand Loki as a character at all

I'm part of the few people who don't entirely buy into the headcanon that Loki was brutally tortured by Thanos in the 1 year gap between Thor and Avengers, I think he did went to very bad places but it doesn't make sense to me that Thanos would break physically and mentally the man he was sending to lead an army on a different planet to get him an infinity stone, I believe he had to fight for his life after his fall and Thanos probably submitted him to a very rigorous training like he did with his daughters (yes, one could argue that that was tortue but let's be fr, it's on a whole different level)

Anyway, my point is: Loki didn't attack Earth against his will, he was angry and hurt, feeling betrayed by his family and dealing with an identity crisis, he was livid, he went through hell after his fall and now he had a chance to cause some trouble for Thor and Odin and he was going to take it

I don't believe Loki really cared about Thanos' philosophy and the whole "freedom is a lie" thing, he was parroting what Thanos told him to cause some dramatic effect but I don't believe, not even for a second that he gave two fucks about it, again, he wanted to make trouble and to cause damage, he wanted to hurt Thor and Odin bc he felt hurt, he didn't care that innocent people were going to die, he didn't even think about them, he just wanted to channel his anger and to piss off his family, and ykw?

That's the real Loki

Because Loki is not some perfect little angel who was forced to do bad things against his will in order to survive, Loki is a vengeful God, a being of chaos, a master of magic and sometimes... an asshole

Sorry, he's not the little baby we all like to pretend he is sometimes, yes there's lots of pain and shame and sadness inside his heart but that doesn't erase the fact that there's some ugly parts in his personality, that's what makes him so complex in my opinion, he's not necessarily evil but he's also not necessarily an innocent baby either, he said it himself:

Avengers' Loki shows us the "ugly" parts of himself—parts many would prefer to ignore. But sorry to break it to you: that was the real Loki too.

Some might argue that the whole "God of Mischief" persona was merely a facade to hide his vulnerable, weak self, but I disagree. I believe Loki did use his title to build walls around himself and keep others at a distance to some extent. However, things aren’t just black and white—Loki is the God of Mischief, whether people like it or not and that means he thrives in chaos sometimes

I mean, he even tells Mobius, "Sometimes our emotions get the better of us," when talking about the New York attack. I know some people don't like that scene because it contradicts their headcanon of Loki being tortured and forced to go to Earth, but personally, I love it. I never liked the idea of Loki having so little agency in Avengers. And yes, I know the Mind Stone was influencing him, but that’s the key—it was influencing, not controlling

I think what I’m trying to say is this: some people don’t truly understand who Loki is. They’ve created a version of him in their minds and reject anything that contradicts it. Refusing to acknowledge the darkness within him only proves that you don’t fully appreciate him. You can love series Loki and say that it's the more mentally healthy version of the character, but please don’t claim that Avengers Loki is his worst version—or that it’s not the real him.

Maybe I'm being annoying but it just hurts every time I see posts trashing him and saying that he's the worst Loki ever, to me that's one of the most fascinating depictions of him precisely because we see how malicious, cunning and calculating he can be, he has so much range and I genuinely feel sorry for all the people who can't appreciate that

What is Loki's favourite ice cream flavour?

Instead of writing, I evidently prefer to think about facts and stuff for the story (instead of writing it🙄) and for plot purposes, I wonder what ice cream flavour our dear Loki favours?

I have my personal preferences but they're very plain and my scope in ice cream isn't very vast anyway so what does the community think?

Loki having the BIGGEST crush on you hc’s:

Scenario: In an effort to bring the nine realms together, Odin had decided to open Asgard’s gates to all. Your family saw this as an opportunity for a better life as Midgardian living caused immense struggle for your parents. And so, 20 years ago while your mother was still pregnant with you, your entire family migrated to Asgard.

With Asgard becoming a new home for many, more rules and changes were done in the lands…and luckily these changes brought nothing but wealth and happiness to both the royal family of Asgard and its citizens…thus as you stepped into your newly rented shop…you had only one goal:

To be one of the most prestigious restaurants in all of Asgard and the nine realms…which you did,

with the help of one Asgardian prince

Loki was simply looking for Midgardian food when he saw you running a small shop by the market

Since then he would stroll by every other day

He would always find an excuse to stay longer and have a chat with you

Loki would send you letters, talking about what he thinks about your hobbies and complimenting your food

Soon he found himself coming back almost everyday, and even decided to study sometimes just so he would stay longer

He blushes at the sight of you

He loves the way you say his name when getting his attention

He’s secretly written poems about you and kept them in a drawer in his chambers

He would tell Frigga about you and how you are the most amazing woman he’s met

Even on days when there wasn’t a single customer…he was there, and on one of those days was when the realisation hit that he was madly in love with you

As the restaurant grew, more and more people started pouring in, which meant Loki saw less of you…and so he asked if he could accompany you to the market when buying ingredients, which you happily said yes to

The first time he went, it took everything in him not to drop the basket, he was getting all flustered and red just from the sight of you in your sunday market outfit

He loves and admires the way you pick the freshest greens and veggies while also making fun and great conversation with the vendors

Soon you were both market shopping every weekend…but Loki was sad on the days he didn’t see you

He would stop himself from leaving his chambers because he feels like he’s pushing boundaries

He was so stupidly deeply in love with you…but he couldn’t tell you or anyone besides his mother

He often cried because he felt like you didn’t like him the same way, or that you could never accept him for who he is and who he really was

Nevertheless…he kept making his poems of you, sending letters and tiny gifts of chocolates and sweets and hoping to the gods above that he could be yours

With the restaurant growing, it was time to expand, which meant leaving Asgard for awhile, when you told this to Loki…he wasn’t too happy about it, but tried to burry that feeling

You still needed help back on Asgard and he agreed to manage the branches there…but even then he couldn’t say “I love you…I have loved you for so long”

The crying became worse, but he always stayed happy for you

The day you left, Loki was there, trying not to confess or cry…but he couldn’t help himself…

“I…I love you…I’m in love with you” he chokingly sobs out

“what?!” you say but before you could say anything, the bifrost opens and you’re sent down to Midgard

Loki was in shocked and followed you immediately

“I…i’ve been in love with you since the first moment i saw you wearing that green apron and making desserts…I…I love our sunday market trips and I love the way you say my name and i just…i just love everything about you and i want to help you and be part of your dreams…yo-your future! i want to be yours…”

A confused and contorted look painted your face “w-who are you?”

“what?!” Loki was in disbelief! how could that even be possible?! you were both just saying goodbye a second ago? how the fu-*click*

“Loki!” A voice booms…it’s Odin… “You have been too distracted by this woman! Ignoring your princely duties! Your studies! I expect better from you!” Loki starts to tear up “and so you make her forget me?!” Odin moves closer “She has a dream ahead of her that i know will be successful, you not being in her life will make that possible…and as for you…we will talk further…let’s go”

That’s how the prince of Asgard helped you become one of the most prestigious restaurants in all the nine realms…He still is deeply in love with you…but he can only love you from a distance

Definitely not thinking about Loki getting frustrated trying to learn physics on his own during those century long time frame so he timeslipped to the present time a little bit earlier before the temporal loom blew up just to pull Mobius aside from everyone to vent incoherent scientific nonsense pacing back and forth while Mobius just watched him.

"Are you done?" asked Mobius after Loki finally stopped pacing, heaving a deep sigh.

Loki glared dagger, but Mobius easily shrugged it off. "Why yes, yes I am," he snapped, arms crossed over his chest. He picked on the dull brown fabric of his jacket and second guessed his choice to vent to Mobius instead of OB.

"I don't even know why am I even talking to you about this, clearly you have zero idea about what I'm taking about," Loki was losing steam, and his tone came out whinier than he'd like it to. It reminded him a lot of the time he sulked over Thor looking confused when Loki showed him his art when they were kids, not understanding his artistic choice.

"Not that I'm blaming you for not knowing about it, I too would be annoyed if someone were to word vomit about electromagnetism and relativistic physics while trying to make sense out of the quantum ones. Magic is so much easier than this, you know? I could just -- I don't know -- snap my fingers, or, or wave my hands and things just happen instead of getting down to the molecular level of shit trying to unders-"

A pair of strong arms wrapping itself around Loki's shoulders stopped him in his track. It was Mobius reaching out and hugging him, but they hugged in an awkward position, because Loki was taller than Mobius and had his arms crossed over his chest. It didn't stop Mobius at all. He continued to run his fingers through Loki's hair, gently pushing Loki's head against his shoulder. "There, there."

And instead of retaliating, Loki allowed himself to be held.

"What are you doing, Mobius?" said Loki, unfolding his arms. His hands were clenching and unclenching by his sides as he hesitated to reciprocate the hug. He was still a little bit mad because Mobius broke his train of thoughts and not getting him at all, though that was slowly melting away as moments passed. Being held felt nice.

"I'm a Loki expert. I don't know jack shit about physics and all the things that just came out of your mouth, but I do know you're frustrated," whispered Mobius in his soothing voice, his hand moved down the center of Loki's back as he rubbed comforting circles. "So we're going to stay this way until you feel better. Got it?"

All the fight left Loki's body. Whatever that confused him during his quest to understand physics was simply forgotten now, and for the love of Odin he couldn't remember why it even bothered him so much. Slowly he wrapped his arms around Mobius' waist and buried his face on the crook of the older man's neck, inhaling deeply the scent of sandalwood cologne and coffee for breakfast they had together close to a century ago, still fresh on the fabric of his clothes.

Once again, Loki was reminded of why he was doing this.

"Got it."

How do we think Loki sleeps. I could definitely imagine him in the fanciest silk pyjamas, black or green button up with an "L" embroidered in gold. And his bed is definitely covered in furs of all kinds. He loves furs, as soon as he gets his hands on a fur blanket he wraps himself up in it so only his face is barely visible. I also like to think he's very cuddly in his sleep. You're on opposite sides of the bed with him when you go to sleep only to wake up with him wrapped around you because he craves touch.

AU idea: Crossever!AU. Just listen! I love crossovers and right now Epic is taking my brain. Why not take the Epic characters and make them meet my favorite characters from other fandoms?

See some sketches i did with this AU in mind:

For example: Odysseus in some ways remind me of Tony Stark, from the MCU. Tony has the mind to match Ody for sure and i can totally see him comparing Pepper to Penelope. Actually, i can see Ody and Tony spending time just hyping their wives to each other 😅

Other characters that i would like to imagine interacting are Loki (specifically after season 2 of the series) and Poseidon. Why? Well, they have thunder brothers and death siblings (in the MCU Loki has Hela as a sister). It would be funny to see them interacting.

Now, why would these crossovers and others happen? Well, multiverse and time travel is the reasoning behind this AU. I can flesh out more how each character would get to meet, but for now i just have ideas of possible interactions.

Anyways... Would anyone be interested in hearing more about this possible AU?

I must admit that Sometimes I feel like a wretched wench for sexualizing Loki because so many people OVER sexualize him and that’s all they love him for 😔 he feels inadequate and he likes reading… he’s mischievous and sarcastic… he has amazing sense of style and is so serious… he is in touch with his emotions and has the coolest way of speaking ever… his Shakespearean way of speaking and his poetic nature… he’s fierce and regal.. he’s so intelligent and ambitious…

He probably enjoys the simplistic elegance of drinking a cup of tea and reading a book… he’s probably one of the most pretentious people ever… I wonder what his favorite fruit is… I just know that a hot cheeto would kill him… How does he feel about being a runt… I wonder what his favorite flower is… I wonder if there’s any Midgardian music that he’d like… I want to see what his closet looks like… I want to see how his bedroom is decorated… I feel like he takes cold showers (if they even have showers on Asgard who knows) but occasionally likes a warm bath… I wonder how he feels about Norse Mythology and how it represents him… How would living in a NYC apartment for a few weeks affect him like would he learn to like some things about Midgard or would he still hate it… I can’t help but wonder about his experiences with love… I kind of feel like he wouldn’t like sweets at all and is a bit pretentious about what he eats (or what he doesn’t eat) being a prince and all… I wonder what his horse is named…

I had to reconnect with reality for a moment
