It's just pretend, right? (Bucky Barnes x reader) part 10

Summary: when risking it all could be the biggest gamble of her life, she is ready to put her life on the line to save the person who made her life hell and now she may be fighting to keep it

warning: violence, angst (sorry ) this is written on my phone so there will be errors ( pretend you dont see them )

The buzz of the phone , the vibration louder on the would of her bedside table making her toss and turn . still half asleep she hit answer not even looking through her barely focus vision , til she heard it , the terrified voice of her cousin screaming for her to help and save her . that made her eyes widen , any trace of sleep to evaporate completely.

“ what you mean they got you how”

“ i needed air , i saw them outside the store and i panick oh god there gonna kill me” she cried out . “ im sorry for everything ok and tell my family…”

“ hey calm down ok ill get you out of there” only for a loud thud that made her heart sink .

“ she cant talk right now but if you wanna see her again you come to this location or the next time you see you cousin will be in a grave”.

“ if you hurt her i will make you a human marshmallow” she growled.

“ come alone if i see any avengers i will shoot her” .

she knew she shouldn't agree with these people , to call the team and do it the right way and yet that part of her that couldn't risk it , couldn't risk the thought of her cousin being in such danger because of her.

“ Just give me the location , i'll be there soon” she sighed looking at the bedroom window , knowing the blindspots that would get her off this ranch. knowing the risks she stood let out a breath leaving a note on the desk and made her way out the window.

He couldn't stop smiling , couldn't stop the happiness buzzing and radiating through his skin. he finally had the girl , he finally found the peace that was in the rubble of his life . she loved him , actually loved him , scars and all. He wanted to do so much , when this was over he was going to show her in every way he could . all the places he wanted to take her , make so many new memories with the woman he loved that there would be no space for the old ones that haunted him daily . opening the bedroom it was like that happiness turned to something else , something familiar as he checked around seeing her bedroom empty. the note on the desk just said “sorry I'll make this right” . that sinking gut feeling that made him run from the room only to see everyone faces looking worried concern , the wailing of someone down the hall .

“ Emma is gone , the agent seem her dragged into a van” nat explained. now the note made sense , made it say more than what was written on the page.

“ y/n is gone too “ he threw the note on the table . “ she gone , she gone to help that ungrateful brat” he growled putting his fist through the wall before heading to the front door . everything felt too hot , everything was moving too slow. They needed to bow before it was too late , before everything that made him happy would be taken too .

Nothing could or would stop her at that moment. Not that feeling in her gut that told her to go back , not the fact that the one she was going to rescue wouldn't do the same for her. She was well aware if the tables was turned emma would of hung up the moment she heard kitty voice without a second thought. it wasnt to be the better person though , it wasnt to show her cousin that she was better than her because the truth in the reality of it all kitty loved her cousin . she hated the person she was and the vanity of her shallow mind but she loved her family. even the cruel member who made her feel less than it was hard , she loved them still and she knew that if she didn't do this it would break her mother and grandmother's heart. So despite everything that told her not to do this , she wasn't listening to that little voice not until she had her cousin out of danger even if it meant putting her in the direct fire . there it was the windowless van driving slowly towards her , the occupant that sat front and center. pulling to a stop short distance as a couple of the agents got out of the back guns drawn looking around before she felt the sharp pain hit her shoulder , the feeling making her fall back slightly holding her shoulder to feel the warm liquid coming out .

“ what the fuck “ she gritted.

“ making sure you're really alone get in the van” the agent scoffed eyes darting around high alert , they all were .

“ windowless van wow , surprised you didn't offer me candy “ she walked over one grabbing her , scanning her body with a device while another one slapped cuffs on her dragging her into the van . watching the door close and the feeling of the van move . she went to move like they anticipated a fight she felt a pinch in her neck. things in the van swaying , agents seemly doubled and when she opened her mouth no words would come out. moving was like she was held down but no one was touching her in the blurred vision they looked amused.

“ fucked .. fuckers “ slurred and drowsy the words fell and as did she everything went black .

He stood , anxious and almost nervous pacing . watching the dark abyss that was in front of him. Then he saw the van approaching. All the tense feelings didn't go in fact it was like they were heightened looking around the surrounding area almost waiting for something to happen. The agent pulled up , opening the van and Rumlow watched them drag her into the building. he watched them dragging her to the cell and the sounds of the brat screaming.

“what did you do to her” the word made him scoff she had some balls to play concerned now especially after what she did.

heading to his office ready to inform his bosses they got what they needed and maybe get rid of the prisoner but suddenly he had a plan if the serums worked on one woman well maybe they could have two instead of one.

the night was starting to fade into morning he could feel his chest tight like since she left , He couldn't breathe. He hated that he knew why she did it and other possibilities of why. he couldn't ask himself why she didn’t tell him because he knew the type of person she was , she knew his past he told her everything one night when everything felt too much . So he knew she wouldn't bring him with her incase he got caught . he hated that now but that was a lie , he could never hate her even if he tried but he did hate all the people in this world that could hurt her and the main one were hydra if he could activate the winter soldier he would give the man the mission to destroy anything and everything that was hydra . He wanted to protect her and now he felt he failed. the not knowing , the fact of her being out there alone capable or not there was a chance that she could be hurt and a worse chance of not seeing her again .

“ hey jerk wanna come in so we can get you dame back” steve stood although smiling it was convincing neither of them .

“ I failed her. I should have stayed in that room lest she wouldn't be alone .. i could have helped “ he finally looked up at his friend and that broken expression written all over his face . he had just gotten her , he had her and now she was gone. they took her , not directly but she was gone because of them . hydra found a way to hurt him all over again , he wasn't gonna let them get away with it this time.

“ what the plan punk” .

Everything felt slower, the groans slipping from her lips , the way her body moved but not the pain that was instant and fast . That was almost instant making her yelp as she got up, her vision taking time to adjust to her surroundings or the lack of . it was cold , almost icy cold and the smell of damp and dirt filling her nostril as she shook her head slightly trying to get her senses straight . The slight whimpered cries heard turning to see emma at her side , shirt torn and wrapped over the wounded shoulder.

“ can you not cry its what they want sick fucks feed on fear” she rasped her throat dry in her throat those water powers would be a real threat right about now that was for sure.

“ oh thank fuck do you witchy thing” emma scrabbled to her feet almost excited.

“ kinda cant with the cuffs , now wanna tell me how you really got trapped her?” she asked.

“ oh i can tell you kitty is it ?” the voice called .

“ dont listen to him , they took me and locked me in here” emma defend almost yelling offended at the man .

“ Brock rumlow dude can't you stay dead i mean the paperwork is honestly is too much” kitty stumbled to her feet.

“ you and you pathetic team can't kill me but then again when your own family sells you out i can see why you're scrounging for the avengers affection “ he laughed.

“ i don't scrounge for anyones attention and i kinda guess she would so you don't need to think you one upped me but let be real her you melt marsh mellow you scrounge and beg for that appreciation even at shield , even under hydra guise you wanted to be steves golden little agent “she laughed making his hands grip to the bars of the cell. “ don't worry you'll see him soon, and the rest of the team oh good luck because when they get me out of this cell and these cuff i will make sure you wont come back this time “ she stalked forward gripping his hand pulling it into the cell slamming his head on the bar .

“ you fucking bitch “ he spat , mouth practically foaming to get at her . the cell door flung open as he went to dive at her only for her to kick the man in the gut .

“ pick on someone your own size “ she heard looking back to see eli.

“ the hell you doing here “ she growled .

“ I got a new job look , let's talk about it after … of course you're here” he rolled his eyes at the girls . before she could talk she felt a hand on her throat pushing her against the wall squeezing tightly only she felt that surge even with the inhibitors on it was pushing through , her nail digging in the tough scared skin while her lungs fault for oxygen , tear filling her eyes in her blurred vision she could see two people sure weren’t exactly the biggest fans of her trying to get her out of his grasp. Other agents came pulling them and throwing Emma to the floor while eli was fighting back . like everything went mute and in all the chaos of it all that power was still building until it couldn't and a ripple surgence spread sending brock rumlow to the ground knocking him and the agent anyone in that cell to the ground as the vine wrapped around each agent holding them firmly in place. The broken metal fell to the ground as she fell, sucking in as much oxygen she could gather. What she did not expect in it was the burning pain in her stomach looking down to her shirt seeing the dark material spreading . the knife that still stuck in her gut as she stumbled forward feeling the two holding her up heading out the cell and loud bang followed one side feeling lighter turning to see eli hitting the floor .

“ stay there or the cousin is next “ rumlow panted gun in hand . standing forth not listening to the man hearing the bang her palm moved vine like wall thicker than concrete almost as the two girl one severely shaken .

“ im sorry” it was small , it was truthful but she was just too tired , in pain to listen .

“ Let go” was all she said, her stomach , shoulder and neck all in pain and the draining of her new power two heading out of the building . the dense and thick forest that surrounded them knowing it wasn't going to be easy but it would be easier than their grip . the fresh air hitting her skin she trudged on the tiredness filling her up but the push to continue heading to the woods she heard the whistle in the distance but she also heard the footsteps behind .

“ I need to run , keep running straight, GO NOW “ she yelled, not giving her cousin a chance before turning to see the hydra agents coming forth . “Go Emma “ she said softer before stumbling forward ready to face the agents.

“ guess talkings out of the question huh? “ the exhausted smile on her lips as they showed their weapons .

She knew she was a coward the moment she ran , but she knew y/n wouldn't have just let her run for no reason . the greenery all seemed to blur altogether , the crunch of the leaves and foliage under feet nearly causing her to fall . til she did this time arms wrapped around her causing her to scream and arm flying around trying to stop the person from catching her.

“ it ok it ok it us , it me natasha “ .

“ y/n where is she “ it wasn't comforting , it was almost venomous .

“ she back there , they came and she made me run shes hurt bad im sorry im sorry “ she began sobbing only for nat to bring her to someone else and team taking off .

“ cho on stand by” fury called into the comms as the run race to the scene , each step closer worry sank it pushed in that made them run faster it was quiet too quiet the closer they got . when they did nothing prepared them for the scene . agent of hydra tied in vines around the area and she lay on the ground covered in blood so still .

almost falling at her side coming to an abrupt stop .

“ hey doll come on , come on wake up .. hey there you go “ he smiled yet the tears fell down his cheek.

“bu-bucky , it you right , like really you?”

“ its me baby im here , teams here we came to get you but seems like we wasted our time huh you got this all covered cause of course you do “ .

“ emma ok i heard the whistle “ she smiled all though her body felt heavy and even words felt to tiring to speak . “ rumlows in side tell steve next time he thinks someones dead to check for a body “ she coughed making her face scrunch in pain , i love you all you know that and my family “ she began crying.

“ hey you can tell em that yourself … doll come on open your eyes , Y/N COME ON OPEN YOUR EYES “ .

“ barnes give her to me come on i need to get her to choi” tony voice broke , his own eyes tearing looking down he didn’t even know if they could save her. picking her up she felt cold , she felt lifeless as he flew off .

Bucky eye went straight to the building , the building with the man who done it . the first step he felt himself pulled back and the rage coursing through his vein to finish it once and for all .

“ she need you man go to y/n we got these guys take nat and yelena with you “ steve once more like always being the man of reason and sense and again was right.

in the moment of taking her in his arms and flying off he had her in the hospital within minutes on a gurney and into an operating room as doctor Choi joined . The chance was low. He had Friday check her over to say it and the look of worry on everyone's face before she was in that operating room , he was waiting for them to tell him the bad news . every minute he paced felt like hours hearing the murmurs of passing by staff and patients . he barely even registered his team approaching or her family until bruce snapped his fingers in his face.

“ She is in surgery “ he coughed hiding the worry in his tone .

“ is she .. was she awake “ her mother asked voice trembling.

“ she tough , she gonna make it through it … she is right tell them right” izzy stormed over. “ tell em “ voice a lot more quiet .

“ i dont know” tony sighed before walking off leaving the stone cold reality looming.

“ my baby, my sweet little girl “ her mother sobbed as the rest of the family stood crying or completely in shock. all eyes looking to the door fear of an unknown outcome lingering in it wake .
