Patton told Roman that he shouldn’t be the one to keep Virgil away from his surprise party, he told him that he was no good at keeping secrets and that Virgil would see right through him in two seconds flat, but Roman had insisted. Roman and logan couldn’t do it because they had to set up the party — Roman in charge of the festive stuff and Logan in charge of the logistical stuff; Remus couldn’t do it because he would either tell Virgil about the party without trying to hide it, or skip the party entirely for shits and giggles; Janus couldn’t do it because Virgil would accuse him of trying to kidnap him as soon as Janus tried to get him to go to the party; Remy couldn’t do it because he would get Virgil too jacked up on caffeine; and Emile couldn’t do it because he wouldn’t get off work until right before the party. 

Besides, Patton was Virgil’s boyfriend, it would look weird if Patton was avoiding him on his birthday. 

So far keeping Virgil out of their apartment was going pretty smoothly, he’d put up a little bit of a fuss when Patton had begged to go to the mall, but he’d given in once he was assured that they’d go to Hot Topic. Normally, Patton would just follow Virgil around the store and let him look at things at his leisure, but today he pointed out every little thing he saw in the hopes of keeping them in the store longer. 

“Oh! Look at this!” Patton said, grabbing a Poké ball necklace off the wall and showing it to Virgil. He pressed a small button and the Poké ball snapped open, revealing a small pikachu inside. “It’s a pika-boo!” 

Virgil smirked at the joke. “That was bad, Pat.” 

“You’re right, I should have just kept my meowth shut!” 

That elicited a snort. 

“Are you a-mew-sed?” Patton grinned. “Did my pun tickle your cubone?” 

“Call me cubone cuz I want to c u bone,” Virgil whispered just loud enough for Patton to hear him. 

Patton was struck dumb by the pun as he felt his face heat up. 

Flirting? With puns? As if he couldn’t love Virgil more. 

Virgil, shifting uncomfortably in the ever-expanding silence, opened his mouth to apologize, but Patton cut him off. 

“Are you a ninetales? Because you’re hot and foxy.” 

Both of them lost it at that, giggling up a storm in the middle of the Hot Topic. 

“Pat, why?” Virgil wheezed, tears streaming down his face. 

“Wynaut?” Patton giggled, setting Virgil off again. 

It was a while before they left the Hot Topic. 

“What should we do now?” Patton asked once they were back in the busy walkway of the mall. He had a few more hours before the others would be ready for him to bring Virgil back, he would have to fill the time doing more birthday activities with Virgil. 

“I kinda just want to go home,” Virgil shrugged. “Maybe cuddle for a few hours.” 

Literally any other time, Patton would love nothing more than to cuddle with Virgil in their home, but today he had a job to do. 

“We’re already out,” he insisted. “We should do things!” 

“Like?” Virgil asked expectantly, the faintest traces of a smile pulling at the corner of his mouth. 

“Like… like… get lunch! We should get lunch! At that Thai place you like!” 

“We could just get takeout,” Virgil pointed out. “Eat it at home in front of the tv.” 

“But then it’s not special!” Patton pouted, hoping that would be enough to convince his boyfriend to stay out a while longer. 

“Well, what if,” Virgil started, a smirk that Patton did not trust creeping across his face. “What if we get takeout and go to Ro and Lo’s? We haven’t hung out all four of us in weeks!” 

“Well, um…” Patton floundered. “They’re– uh, they’re busy today.” 

“They are?” 

“Y-yeah, Logan has that thing today. That, uh, engineering thing.” 

“Oh, right,” Virgil laughed. “‘That engineering thing’. Maybe we should see what Remus and Janus are doing then.” 

Patton opened his mouth to stutter through another excuse when he noticed the twinkle in Virgil’s eyes. 

“You’re messing with me!” He accused, pouting. 

“Maybe a little bit,” Virgil chuckled. “I couldn’t help it, you’re cute when you’re trying to be sneaky.” 

Patton pouted even more. “I thought I was doing a good job at distracting you.” 

“You were,” Virgil assured him, kissing his pout away. “But I saw the texts on Princey’s phone when I was over there last weekend. Don’t worry, I’ll still act surprised when we get to the party.” 

“You promise it wasn’t me who gave it away?” 

“I promise. Now, if I'm not mistaken, someone promised me Thai food, and I’m guessing we’ve got a few more hours to fill.” 

“Anything for the birthday boy!” Patton grinned, dragging Virgil out towards the Thai place.

#5 A Story Idea I've Had But Will Never Write

I hesitate to say never write, but I have some very tragic ideas about the Happily Ever After Universe. There is one where Joy, Remus, and Janus are the only survivors of the extended family after a major apocalypse. I've actually written a bit of it (it's eight-year-old Joy's POV and she can't figure out why only Uncle Remus can see and hear Uncle Lo, or why Papa cried when Uncle Remus shaved his mustache.)

Writing is how I get the ideas out of my head so they stop haunting me.

#13 How Much Planning Do I Do Before Writing?

The most planning I did was for Side by Side in the Mindscape which culminated in my Do Us Any Harm 2021 Big Bang and the conclusion, A Little Bit of Love. It incorporated Shackled and Curiosity Freed plus Analogical Week stories, The Serpent and His Muse (Dukeceit Week), Servatis a Curiositas (Loceit Week), and Overture, written for @tsspromptmonth's May Flowers event.

It's my most complicated universe and one of my only canonverse stories.

This varies immensely. A lot of stories just start flowing out, but I will write outlines for Big Bang stories (mainly so I have something to give the artist as I'm still writing.) I typically plan out the theme of the chapters and name them ahead of time.

I almost always have the ending in mind and then I write toward that, but exactly how we get there (the early Intruloceit in Overruled was a surprise) can change as I write.

For the stories that are based on prompts for events like Revisions (New Year, Old Tropes), Matchr (Intrulogical Week 2021), Variation on a Sin (Seven Deadly Sins Intrulogical Week 2022), Beside Me (Dukexiety Week 2021), Dee (Anxceit Week 2021), Overruled (Loceit Week 2023), I plan the major events by chapter and then just write.

I had that same plan for The Uses of Adversity (originally planned as a seven-chapter Logince Week 2022 story but Roman and Logan had other ideas and pushed it to 21 chapters over a year and a half.)

“Roman!” I heard someone call out to me, while I was leaving after the video. I turned around, looking down, at my smart, dorky boyfriend.

“Yeah Teach?” I asked him, smiling at him.

“I, er…” He began, collecting himself before trying again. “I would like it ask you on a date. For tonight. The same place where our first date was.”

“Oh,” I stared, feeling my face heat up slightly. Logan has never really asked me on a proper date before. He’s not the most romantic person, but he’s trying his best. And… I usually go overboard with romantic gestures, so I’ve had to tome that down to not overwhelm him.

“Roman?”

“Huh? Oh, sorry,” I chuckled softly, “But, yes, I will go on that date with you.”

It a coolish afternoon, the sky already turning a pinky, orange colour, and I was in my room looking for a perfect outfit. He told me to dress business casual, so I had to and wanted to fit that theme. So, I got a nice white button up, with an amazing red jacket and black slacks. I looked in my mirror, adding some concealer, some nude lipstick, and some mascara, just to make myself more confident. I fixed my hair up, making sure if was styled neatly, securing it with hairspray, smiling at my reflection.

I went to the spot of our first day all those years ago. It was so perfect, and he was so cute and awkward. He still is absolutely adorable, though less awkward now. I took a deep breath, continuing, not wanting to make him wait for me. And once I got there, I stared in awe, my mouth slightly open, and my eyes wide.

“I, er, I do hope you like it,” Logan spoke softly.

“I love it,” I spoke softly, smiling at him, as I went over to him. I kept looking around, the area outlined with fairy lights, hung by poles in each corner, and a nicely decorated picnic table, which I assumed had dinner on it for us. I then looked at Logan, my star, and he took my breath away.

“I have dinner prepared for us. Though there is something I wish to do first.”

I smiled at him, wondering what he was doing, before I gasped, seeing him down on one knee.

“When I first met you, I thought you were arrogant, loud and annoying.”

“Not the proposal I was hoping for,” I joked, smiling brightly, tears lining my eyes.

“Anyway, after I got to know you, I found that I love those things about you, and that I can be wrong in my judgement. I love you; I love that you’re in my life, and don’t want you to leave my life. Will you marry me?”

“Yes,” I cried out, getting on the floor and hugging him. I heard him laugh slightly, as he put the ring on my finger.

I’m excited for Logince week! Here’s a little taste of what’s coming your way:

Roman knocked on the door. He had called Logan five minutes before, informing his boyfriend that he was coming over.

Logan quickly answered, letting him in.

“Hey, love,” Roman greeted, pressing a chaste kiss to Logan’s lips.

Logan blushed. “Salutations, Roman. Why did you come over so abruptly?”

“Can’t I come visit my beautiful, smart, wonderful boyfriend?” Roman fluttered his eyelashes innocently.

“Apparently not,” Logan replied, rolling his eyes at the compliments. “You rarely do without an ulterior motive.”

Roman gasped and placed a hand on his chest, a mock offended expression on his face. “You wound me. I never have any sort of ulterior motive!”

“Falsehood,” Logan responded.

HAPPY LOGINCE WEEK DAY FOUR (free choice) @loginceweek2022

Prompt I choose: Lipgloss stains

Pairing: Logan and Roman

Roman gazed into his mirror, puffing his lips out as he slowly applied lipgloss onto them. He ran the gloss over his lips gently, before popping them and glancing behind him at his boyfriend, Logan. He licked his lips a bit, before he sighed "Nerd? Does this look good on me?" he asked, tilting his head a bit. Roman fidgeted with the cap in his hands, twisting it on and off as he waited for an answer.

Logan gentle placed his book down, giving Roman his full attention. Logan hummed, gazing down at Roman's lips. "I like it, it is uhm...shiny? I suppose, I'm not very good with fashion advice," he admitted sheepishly. "I don't understand fashion much."

Roman rolled his eyes in response, "well I know that Specs, but does it look good on me is what I'm asking- well as good as I can look." He watched as Logan nodded.

"Yes Roman, I like the color. You look wonderful," Logan replied softly, before he chuckled a bit, "prep." He had to add the nickname in response ; Roman had already used two against him. His eyes darted back down to Roman's lips for a moment, he felt a figurative5 tug at his heart.

Oh. Oh no.

Logan watched Roman pop his lips again, and he felt a soft blush creep onto his cheeks. He shook his head a bit, trying to get rid of his thoughts. "It looks great," he promised him.

Roman blinked, tilting his head as he tried to figure out why Logan had shook his head. He slowly noticed the blush on his face, putting two and two together. The corners of his lips twitched into a small smile, almost like a smirk. 'Awh cute' he thought. "Hey Nerd, do you want to try some?" he asked holding the lipgloss up, twirling it between his fingers.

Logan shook his head, gazing away from Roman, "ah No, I do not wear any makeup."

Roman walked closer to Logan, playing with his tie before cuping his face, "I didn't mean it literally Mi Amor," he clarified glancing down at his lips for a moment.

"O-Oh! Well I uhm still no- well yes- I you can do that if thats what your asking but I'm still not interested in makeup-" Logan stammered nervously, his heart beat racing.

Roman leaned closer and closed the gap between them, interrupting his rambling. He loved the feeling of Logan's lips against his, even if they'd kissed a lot before he could never seem to get over it.

Logan's eyes widened, "mmfg!" he tried to get some words out but that wasn't exactly possible. After about a moment he gently closed his eyes, leaning into the kiss and kissing back. He placed his arms around Roman's shoulders. After a few more minutes his lungs started to ache, he reluctantly pulled back for air.

Roman placed a few gently kisses around Logan's face, lipgloss smeered all over his boyfriend. "Oops"

"Oh! Wow I uhm-uh-" Logan stuttered, stumbling on his words.

Roman tilted his head with a smirk, "awh! I somehow got all serious Logic tounge tied! Wanna try some more?" he asked, holding up the lipgloss again, to which Logan nodded.
