meet the writer: aj
(a.k.a. my writeblr intro, done properly)
heya!! i’ve had this blog for a while now, but i realised i haven’t ever actually done a proper intro on here, so here it is!! (also did i want the opportunity to make an aesthetic of myself??? absolutely. image made in canva and portrait on the left is from picrew, all other images were taken from unsplash)
Tumblr media
my name is aj (she/her pronouns pls)!! i’m 26, black, and i live in the uk. i graduated from uni 3 years ago and currently work in lab admin, but i’ve been doing creative writing for 10+ years!! i’m currently trying to get back into reading by reading a book a month (i usually share the book i’m reading in the sidebar of my main blog, which i follow back with as this blog is a sideblog: @andipxndy), and i write a variety of fanfiction and original works (both based off my own characters and those i currently/have rp’d with in the past). i also take requests for fanfiction, which you can read about below the cut or in this post (i’ve made some changes which mean the post is not relevant atm)!! but in general i love being asked questions about my WIPs and my characters and basically any characters i write, because i love delving into character thoughts and doing character development (so please send me some!!).
this blog started off as a way for me to share my fanfiction writing, which is how i got into writing in the first place and how i came to love it, but now i’m wanting to expand some more share/talk about some of my original works too!! i write ya sci-fi in my original stuff, but i’m known to drift into romance, action-comedy and crime when it comes to fanfiction works. i’m also over on ao3 as andipxndy.
my main fanfic writing fandoms are abbott elementary and alex rider, just to keep things managable, but i also enjoy watching ncis, criminal minds and lockwood & co., and sometimes dive back into old favourite animes (k-on!! is my current anime obsession). i may be slow to write or respond to stuff but i DO enjoy diving into discussing fandom stuff too!! i also like playing video games like sims 4 (ea is a money grab pass it on) and cities skylines, and enjoy dnd and rping with friends!!
before this intro gets too long, here are my main WIPs:
power play (1st draft completed, left to stew)
the first original wip i planned, the story is intended to be part of a 5-book series about a 20-year-old who accidentally gives himself powers, and ends up drawn into the science underground whilst trying to save people that he may or may not have also accidentally given powers. and all whilst trying to appear completely normal to his mum and get a summer job whilst home from university.
the crossover (still working on 1st draft, is my main/november nano project)
this is an adaptation of an old rp au i had with one of my closest friends, adjusted to have new, original characters despite the same plotline. it follows a 17-year-old girl as she’s accidentally transported into a parallel universe, where her parents aren’t her parents and she doesn’t exist. in an attempt to get home, she ends up crossing paths with the people who are meant to be her family, and finds out that they’re all superheroes. insert drama and shenanigans here.
the rich life: a modern bourgeoise au (working on 1st draft, is my camp nano project)
a passion project that i’m completing for my rp partners, this au is split into a 3-book series following the lives of our characters in the upper class, those who work for them, and eventually their children, going through the drama of their lives and how they try so hard not to have it all end up in the press. that obviously doesn’t work.
fanfiction fics and requests (ongoing but this is technically a wip)
technically counts as a wip as i have a backlog of fics in progress to write and share for requesters (and some ideas i’ve had myself), but these are mainly either alex rider or abbott elementary fanfics that have been sent in via ask. you can see extra info below the cut after the next paragraph. my requests are currently closed, and i’m working through my backlog. the request(s) active for the forseeable future are:
will you be my maybe? - an abbott elementary fanfiction (gregory x janine - injury + fake dating)
anyway, this is all i’ve got for now!! i do take part in things like nanowrimo and camp nanowrimo, so if anyone takes part in those too i look forward to writing alongside you!! other than that, that’s about it!! i’ll be sharing snippets of my work, and maybe eventually you’ll even get aesthetics eventually!! i’ve you’ve read this far, i applaud you, but thank you so much for reading!! i’d love to get to know more writers on here, both inside and outside of fandom spaces, so please feel free to jump at me and send me asks and messages and stuff!!
~ aj xxx
(for more info on fanfiction stuff, read below the cut:)
Tumblr media
i’ve been writing fanfiction for over 10 years, and as something so dear to my heart i can’t let it go - it’s helped me to develop my writing and character development skills!! i have, however, grown in the fandoms i write, so please see below for more info:
Tumblr media
I WRITE FOR:
alex rider
abbot elementary (more specifically, gregory x janine. i ship only those two. with my whole heart.)
fics getting to know my original characters (oneshots)
(i realise that this is significantly cut down, but i have other projects in mind that require more of my time and can no longer spend as much time on requests!! for this, i apologise!!)
GENRES WRITTEN (not completely restricted):
family/friendship
romance
hurt/comfort
action/adventure
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
MY REQUESTS ARE NOW CLOSED
all fanfics will be cross-posted to ao3
please give me up to a month to get fics written and posted - if not done within a month, feel free to message me about it [please DO NOT pester me about it] - i work and am also writing original things, so do not always have the time
i preferably write oneshots, though the occasional multi-chap will appear - a fic ends up longer, well, it happens 🤷🏾‍♀️
i am a rambler so you are almost always guaranteed a longer fic
please try not to give me word count limits or specifications on fics - they are discouraging
that being said, any writing requests/prompts fulfilled will most likely be 20k words or less (though they may be longer if the inspiration strikes, don’t hold me to it)
i do not write smut, or any nsfw other than possibly gore/torture/violence. this is a personal preference and i will not change my stance on it
if you have any triggers that you do not want included in the fic, please message me and inform me of this
i have a ko-fi! if you would like to tip/donate to me for any of my writings, check it out here
all fics may or may not include a level of humour/sarcasm - i’m not sorry for this

chaotic book ramble so I can stop spiraling into the abyss: my childhood favorite books that I've been thinking about lately
I start college in four days, where I'll be pursuing an English degree. I've been both a reader and by extension a writer my whole life. lately, I've been thinking about the books I loved when I was younger that fueled this passion and thus helped me along to where I am now <3
The Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer. I still have my old copies of these books, and when I tell you they are well-loved, I mean they are well-loved. they're sort of fairytale retellings, and take place in the Land of Stories, which exists as a parallels world to this one where fairytale characters are real and living beyond their happily ever afters. the books follow twins Alex and Connor, who find out (spoiler?? lol) that their grandmother is the fairy godmother. all sorts of stuff goes down, and honestly I only remember half of it like a fever dream, but I remember really loving it in book five (?) when they get to meet the characters from stories Connor wrote. honestly, I probably read the entire series over fifty times, and that's not an exaggeration. first read them the year the third book came out, when I was nine. waiting for the rest was, I recall, absolute torture.
the Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. this is so funny to me, because these books basically set me up for my later teen years and loving the Folk of the Air series by Holly Black - but I digress. I first read these at age eight in a high-stress time of my life, and as a result they were likely deeply formative. they follow twins Jared and Simon (more twins ??) and their older sister Mallory (thinking back, she was absolutely part of my bi awakening). they move with their mother into the old Spiderwick mansion, and soon discover a fieldguide all about faeries and different fae species that live in the woods surrounding the house. I honestly think that the plot of these books is batshit, but I still sort of love them. there's a movie, but it's terrible, and aggressively condenses the plot into something completely unrecognizable.
Harry Potter, by... Harry Potter. isn't it great that, after his time at Hogwarts, he decided to write a seven-book autobiography?? so funky of him!! anyways - I read these at the ripe age of ten, and stuck by loving them since. HP was my first fandom, and maybe the one I'm fondest of (actually, thinking on this, no), and Hogwarts in general holds a lot of nostalgia for me. this being said, I still love the books, but I have to say that I reread them last year for the first time since I was maybe 14/15 and um. wow. Mr. Potter you are?? problematic??? someone please tell me why the adult man who was allowed to abuse children in a position of power for sixteen years got a redemption arc but the literal CHILD who was born into an abusive and power-hungry family didn't. also why is Dumbedore hailed as such a bloody saint?? he's worse than fucking Voldemort. I said what I said. also it's super confusing that Harry never mentioned in his autobiography that his Sirius and Remus were happily married and living at Grimmauld place. weird storytelling choice I guess!!
all those damned Warrior cats books by Erin Hunter. I swear to god these books had crack in them I ATE THEM UP from the ages of like. eight to eleven?? maybe??? genuinely, I must've reread them a hundred times, but I could tell you NOTHING about the plots. a few vibes, maybe, but zero plots. did they even have plots?? were plots a thing in those books??? how was I so obsessed with them???? funniest part is the fact that I see people talking about them on the internet now and it's just. insane. actually insane.
Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud. full transparency: I read these for the first time at age eleven (around the time the fourth book out of five came out) and now remain an active member of the fandom. I love these books, and these characters, with my whole heart and I want nothing more than them to be happy. the Netflix show, though I have some pretty severe gripes with it, is still really amazing and absolutely deserves a second season. the books are set in London, where ghosts are real deeply dangerous, and follow the main trio of Lucy, Lockwood, and George. I reread them at the start of the year in preparation for the show, and they're genuinely just incredible works. I sobbed a lot reading them. they're absolutely comfort reads for me; 35 Portland Row is home.
wow. that was a lot. there's honestly several more I could talk about (School for Good and Evil, Percy Jackson, etc), but this is a long enough post for now, ha. love you all <3

My contribution to the Lockwood & Co x New Girl parallels (in text form because alas, I don't know how to make gifs or really any visual fandom contributions):
Lockwood's face journey while Lucy is possessed by the ghost of Annabel Ward 🤝 Nick panic yelping "Not like this!" when he's supposed to kiss Jess on a True American dare

4, 7 and 11 for the salty ask meme! Only if you want to, of course :)
Here you go <3 I sadly will talk opinions all day
Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
TVD: Kl*uroline (I mean this goes without saying for me, but like no hate to people who like it! I see the appeal, it’s just a hard pass for me) they’re THE popular ship
RNM: I mean me and Kybel are flirting with it, depending on my mood, but it’s the writings fault tbh. They’re the most popular m/f ship
The Rookie: Lucy/Nolan, it hurts me to my core. As far as I know most everyone also dislikes it, lol
Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
RNM: Kybel, though to be fair I still love them in a weird way. Like yes they’re canon. Yes! they’re snuggling. Yes! Izzy finally let someone in (I really need to make a parallel of her and those blankets). But also like… the Kyle I know and love would never guilt trip a woman into dating him. And so on and so forth.
Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
RNM: Maria and Max are my babes, and they deserve to make out a little bit cause of how much fandom dislikes them (why do I like them? Maria is steadfast and kind, she’s gentle and loving, but strong and stern. A poem come to life. Max is a pathetic wet cat. With anger issues and puppy dog eyes. All in all angsty nerd is my type.)
TVD: Tyler Lockwood (growth! Also, he’s one of the few tvd characters with Sorry in his vocabulary. Also, able to distance himself from the craziness around him.)

You know what. Not that I have interacted with you before so hi i am a fellow fan from lockwood and co fandom
Let's start with a chain to what we are looking forward to the most in Lockwood show.
I would say Lucy's sass and the grand rapier play of which we were given a glimpse of in the trailer.
You?
It's no worries!! I love people interacting with my posts + blog 'cause I care about this community a lot despite only coming here recently. Hello hello :D
I too cannot wait to see the fight scenes I wanna see the girlboss in action that little snippet we got was AWESOME
As for what I'm most looking forward to? I wanna see Lucy + the Skull's dynamic so badly I pray they don't take the skull too seriously. I want to see Lockwood be a dork, again, I cannot deal with him being taken too seriously. Oh and I hope George isn't PURELY comedy relief because he is so much more than that. And I cannot wait to see Flo because she's hardly shown in the trailers and it makes me sad because she's so good.
Also I really just want to see the details more than anything. There seems to be so much care for everything & everyone and I want to see all the book parallels. I probably won't liveblog my first thoughts but I'll probably make analysis posts after the fact calling out everything over that weekend.
(this is an open question and anyone can add on)

Artemis Entreri is not a white guy... but not for the reason you might believe
[[ Foreword: As a BIPOC, I care a lot about proper ethnic and racial representation. During my early days in this fandom, I’ve encountered people who felt that properly representing a character’s skin color was unimportant, and these people attempted to silence my views on the matter. Nonetheless, I’m the one responsible for specifying Artemis Entreri’s skin color as dusky brown in the FR Wiki (my attempted edits of his article on Wikipedia.org to include his skin color have been repeatedly deleted). I’ve written numerous posts regarding Artemis’ status as a fantasy POC, even when his own creator seems to have forgotten the fact (i.e. as seen here). I’ve worked on my art skill for the sole purpose of depicting Artemis better, and in the process of doing so I’ve studied the theory behind depicting different skin colors accurately. I still have a long way to go, but what I’ve learned has helped me to see and understand much differently from before.
Recently, I saw a forum post about fan castings for a hypothetical live-action Drizzt show/movie. This kind of thing is pretty common, but I’m always perturbed when I see that most commenters suggest white actors for Artemis. Thankfully, more people these days understand the importance of proper representation and diversity in media and their suggestions come from a place of ignorance rather than bigotry. I couldn’t stop thinking about my most recent experience though, so I decided to re-check my sources and reassess everything that I thought I knew.
There’s a widespread belief that the Realms’ Calimshan is the equivalent of the real world Middle East. I subscribed to this belief until recently, and used it as a basis for arguing why Artemis is a POC. However, as it turns out, Calimshan is not the equivalent of real world Middle East. Ed Greenwood doesn’t draw direct parallels between Realmsian locations and real world locations, but Calimshan’s closest analogue is Al-Andalus: the Muslim-ruled area of the Iberian Peninsula. Due to its geographical location, that would mean that the people of Al-Andalus would look similar to modern-day Spanish and Portugese people, in other words, mostly white.
Tumblr media
That being said, it does NOT mean that Artemis and native Calishites are not people of color. They still would be, but not because Calimshan is the equivalent of the Middle East. Calishites are brown-skinned because they descend from a line of people adapted to living in a desert environment.
So then, where does the belief that Artemis is white come from? Unfortunately, it’s due to some of Todd Lockwood’s illustrations, or rather, untrained and/or unthinking examination of his illustrations. One of the few things that I agree with Salvatore about is with regards to Todd Lockwood’s illustrations as the go-to visualization of Artemis. However, it is also these depictions that seem to throw a lot of people off about Artemis’ intended skin color.
Why is it that other people see differently? I think the first reason is that in most cases, people see what they want to see, they see an affirmation of what they’ve assumed to be the case. Historically, the bulk of Salvatore’s readers have been white. However, for those readers who aren’t white, who also aren’t of a similar ethnicity to Artemis, might look at those covers and assume he’s white because they live in the US, or because they assume that he’s the same ethnicity as his creator. Most of Lockwood’s covers are on a varied palette that makes it difficult to isolate the exact skin color of the characters. A lot of people don’t know color theory, and they don’t think about skin colors from the perspective of how to illustrate it accurately. They’d look at Artemis from the cover of Servant of the Shard:
Tumblr media
And perhaps they’d think, oh, his face is in the shadow of his hood, and he’s in a cave, so dark on top of dark would mean that his actual skin color is very light. However, this line of thought is faulty, because if the above illustration was made to be accurate to the situation, then all we’d see of Artemis’ face would be a few highlights from Crenshinibon’s glow. Furthermore, the fiery breath in the throat of Hephaestus, the dragon in the background, should be so bright that it’d create a backlight so strong that Artemis’s features would be even more strongly hidden in shadow, causing an effect like this:
Tumblr media
Crenshinibon could very well illuminate his face, but it would do so by splashing it with its own greenish hue. Here’s a very rough illustration of what I mean:
Tumblr media
As you can see, that isn’t depicted in Lockwood’s painting, which leads me to believe that Lockwood’s chose to basically install an artificial white light source so that we can see Artemis’ face clearly. It looks very much like he intended it so that he could paint Artemis as though he were in natural light.
What people often don’t think about is that what sets different skin colors apart is how they react to light. Painting a very tan white person might start with the usage of the same palette as for painting a naturally brown-skinned person, but assuming proper application of the undertones, shadows and highlights, the difference becomes clear. The dusky brown skin of a desert native would be layered with a mix of darker reds and yellows, compared to the pink/lighter reds and yellows for white skin. This is the case with Artemis’ face on the cover of Servant of the Shard. Furthermore, the shadows on his face are dark, desaturated browns, flirting with gray but not quite there. If Lockwood were depicting a white character, he’d sooner use shades of blue and even orange than gray, as it is a lot easier to play with the versatility of depicting white skin. Any artist worth their salt would know that using grays to shade a color painting is very bad as it muddies the colors, so even approaching gray is to be avoided unless absolutely necessary. It isn’t necessary to tread that dangerous line to depict white skin.
It is most clear on the cover of Promise of the Witch-King that Artemis is not white. In this rendition of that cover art, while the background is lightened more than the foreground, the foreground is nonetheless lightened. As such, we are basically looking at Artemis in bright light:
Tumblr media
Even here, in my opinion, he is clearly not white. A white man in bright light would not have shadows in shades of dark desaturated browns. His highlights are also more yellowish than pinkish, which is what is done for depicting dusky brown skin:
Tumblr media
Although what has been discussed holds true to Entreri’s depiction on the cover of Road of the Patriarch, yet again it’s something that can fall to the misconception of, “Oh, it’s sunset, which means it’s dark, and he looks dark, so he would not look dark if it weren’t sunset.”
Tumblr media
WRONG. Consider this video of an actual brown-skinned man at sunset, and note how the shadows on his face are unsaturated dark browns, and the highlights yellowish (the picture is a preview if you don’t want to look at the video):
Tumblr media
What I’ve covered also applies to Artemis’ depiction on the cover of Starless Night, so I won’t repeat it again.
Some might believe that Artemis is painted with desaturated shadows (grays) because of the absorption of the shade turning him grayish. However, I don’t believe Lockwood chose to depict that, as Artemis’ skin is too vivid even with the grayish-brown shadows. Salvatore specifically wrote:
Tumblr media
Lockwood was at that time no stranger to illustrating supernatural skin types, he certainly could’ve made Artemis’ skin look like that of a corpse’s if he wanted to. It looks very likely however that there was a conscious decision was made not to.
What I haven’t discussed is that some will pick up what looks like a very dark red on Artemis’ cheeks and nose on the Servant of the Shard cover. He could be flushed from exertion, anger, heat from the breath of Hephaestus, or perhaps it’s just a color choice to make his features pop more. However, even there, he’s no white guy with his face flushed, which if we look closely, would actually be more of a pink despite the phrase, “red-faced with anger”:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Artemis’ “red” is more of a brown:

TVD for the ask game, bc I know you prob want to do it anyway shsjjssj
You know I wasn't actually thinking about tvd! my love for that is constant but unobtrusive now I'm not watching it. But for sure I want to do it NOW! Now that you've said!!!
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Damon is the ultimate blorbo if you have a different blorbo you're wrong his blorbo energy is off the charts.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Ok this isn't one character, this is whenever Bonnie and Damon are being friends in like the later seasons, they are So Shaped together they have such stupid faces and he makes her dump vampire pancakes and she regains her magic solely because she doesn't want him to die they are So Much and for sure my babys together.
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
Loved Caroline from the second she came on screen, was unappreciated by her friends, and said something awkward. People do love her, so she's not really underappreciated, but I think she is because she should be the MOST appreciated.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
Ok so like this is super obscure but in the final season, there's this dude, Dorian, and Stefan killed his entire family when he was an Evil Vampire and then compelled Dorian to forget. (just realised I don't know how much if any you've seen of this show, but if I'm just Sharing Information You Know skip over my boring explanation). But then the compulsion ended because (spoilers) Stefan became human and so Dorian took him out to an obscure place, had him dig his own grave, and shot him as revenge.
BUT Stefan's bleeding out and Dorian doesn't have to do anything! but he realises he can't just kill someone like that! especially not someone repentant! so he saves Stefan's life, he calls an ambulence, he carries Stefan out of the woods!
This is especially important because earlier in the season a young doctor was used as a test to see if people could be good under a very similar situation, she was compelled to think Damon killed her parents as a drunk driver accidentally, and so she tried to kill him so he would never do the same to anyone else, and because that whole season is about forgiveness it's a major thematic parallel, this doctor was willing to kill a man for accidentally killing someone at a point in the season where it looks like the point of the season is veering towards "people are unsalvageable." But!!! then! we are reminded that there can be forgiveness and growth and redemption! and Dorian represents that!!! It's so important to me! So yes I won't shut up about him.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
Half the fandom would say Stefan but they're wrong. It's actually Tyler Lockwood do with that what you will (he grows up so much actually and it's very important to me).
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Elijah because he tricked me when he was first introduced into thinking that he was the best original but he's actually the WORST he's hypocritical.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
Their MOM WHAT'S HER FACE LILY SALVATORE I HATE HER SO SO SO MUCH SHE'S SUCH A TERRIBLE MOM AND WE'RE MEANT TO BE SYMPATHETIC TOWARDS HER LOATH! DISPISE! HATRED!!!

They be the best and softest superhero girlfriends. They're both so sunshiny and hopeful about the world. Already so supportive of eachother. Remember when Nia calmed Kara before she had to debate with Ben Lockwood? Kara's face was so intense when Nia was holding her and easing her worry. Started shipping them that instant.
Okay anon you’ve got me LET ME EXPLAIN TO YOU WHY KARA AND NIA ARE THE MOST PERFECT COUPLE EVER because I agree with all of this.
Like first of all they’re both REALLY PRETTY and they’d look good kissing each other, really that’s the whole premise for most TV ships let’s be honest with ourselves but ALSO:
Look there is nothing like a good double-mentorship to be my absolute catnip and Kara and Nia’s is perfect.
Like on the one hand, Kara is very much Nia’s professional role mentor in terms of like - showing her how to navigate the world of Catco and being a journalist and being confident enough to share her ideas in an environment where they can be criticized! Giving Nia superhero advice and like - encouraging her but also not sugarcoating the fact that it’s a hard, dangerous thing to do and wanting her to be read.
But then also like - look I love Kara the very most but she has so many feelings and she’s so bad at dealing with all of them?? The Space Queen Of Smushing Feelings Into Her Feelings Cave Until They Bubble Over And She Has To Punch A Car Into The Sun like I love her so much but she’s never been great at being vulnerable with other people or processing her emotions in real time. Like even with Alex, there’s this dynamic of wanting to feel her feelings but only as far as they don’t hurt her and wanting to protect Alex from the darkest, toughest parts of herself. And then Nia comes along and Kara just - takes this leap like I’m never getting over that scene on the highway I’m just NOT I’ll be in the fandom nursing home with my blanket over my knees cooing over what a perfect character moment it is.
Kara just VIBRATING because here is this person who feels feelings so CLOSE to hers and they’re feelings she hasn’t been able to share with ANYONE before - especially not Alex because they’re ABOUT Alex and they’re TOP SECRET - and her whole being is just screaming !!! SAME HAT !!! (context)
(And it’s not quite the same - like I say this absolutely not wanting to minimize the elements of Nia’s journey that are specific to her gender and her journey with that because those are important and unique. But there are parallels that are so strong and tie them together so closely!!)
Nia who is - like I don’t think she’s mentoring Kara explicitly, but she’s such a good role model for expressing and processing and naming her own feelings thoughtfully. She’s so empathetic and so in touch with the way that she is and you can see Kara learning from her, watching her thoughtfully when she gave that pep talk at the studio or when Nia needed more time to process her grief and asked for space for that.
They’re just such - two halves of the same something, and they compliment each other so perfectly as mentors and friends and teammates and colleagues, it’s beautiful. This is everything I think the show wanted Mike to be; that other half that dovetails so nicely; full all the places that Kara is hollow and vice versa.
So anyway they’re soulmates.
And then like
They’re soulmates and Nia knows everything and it gives them this closeness - especially because all of Kara’s other allies don’t know her for the time being - that’s just like nothing else.
(Nia who for sure for sure had a Supergirl scrapbook in journalism school like she just wanted to change the world so badly, she wanted to be a hero and report on superheroes like Supergirl; she wanted to be the next person to get an exclusive with a hero like that. It takes her like a week to just be fucking chill, like her dumb dork boss colleague friend who sings showtunes in the car and wears flower skirts also defeated the queen of an alien world in hand to hand combat and saved the entire earth what the fuckkk.)
But also Kara who I think - I don’t know that she has the words for this but she knows how isolating it can be, to have powers and want to do something with them but feel like they’re a part of her that she has to hide.
And she doesn’t want to be weird but she just wants to make sure that Nia knows that she doesn’t have to - Kara doesn’t want Nia to feel as alone as she felt, that’s all.
So they end up with this initimacy and it’s based in vulnerability and trust and genuine deep caring.
And Kara doesn’t push Nia; she’s learned to not make this about what she needs and to let Nia have her space and time.
But then Nia has this dream and Supergirl’s in trouble and she doesn’t think Supergirl she thinks Kara and she has to - she just has to
She puts on her grandmother’s suit for the first time, swearing a little and like p r a y i n g that it fits and she runs down to that hotel ballroom and rushes headlong like she just has to do something.
Because they care and it’s a deep kind of caring, it’s not just hey I love when you’re nice to me or hey you’re fun to hang out with. It’s Nia understanding why Kara has to put herself into the thick of things, because she can’t stand to see the people she cares about get hurt and Kara cares about everyone.
It’s Nia’s same hat moment, she doesn’t know what she’s doing but it’s gonna be something it’s gonna be helpful it’s gonna be headfirst and a little impulsive and that’s kind of not like her but it’s Kara so she needs to.
And it’s just such a short leap to these two going even deeper into that connection.
Nia curling up and taking a nap on Kara’s couch because she can’t quite tell if she’s tired because of Premonition Narcolepsy or because she was up most of the night trying to make a deadline and it feels kind of okay?
Kara sneaking away and waking Nia with breakfast and coffee and a soft hand on her forehead and it’s so much nicer than waking up scared.
Nia being there when Kara’s having a bad day, when she misses her sister and she doesn’t feel like enough and she’s so mad at herself for not being stronger.
These two having just the tenderest most giggly intimate sighing makeouts, they’re gonna kiss for two straight hours minimum they deserve it they’re both so tender.
Just SUPERHERO GIRLFRIENDS, anon. That’s all I want.

I am not sure if I saw this on your blog but I once saw a post that said that everyone who ships Klaroline but thinks Bonkai doesn't make sense is racist and/or hypocritical. And while I agree I wonder what it says about a person if they ship Bonkai but hate Klaroline. I am geneuinly curious because it seems that you are one of the BK shippers that dislike KC. Please take this in good fate (because on Tumblr usually you have to be either 100% pro or 100% con, and I hate this mentallity)
Structurally, Klaroline and Bonkai are the same - the Big Bad Boy meets Girl Who Is Not Elena, Boy Bites (or Stabs) Girl, Boy Likes Girl, Fandom Loves Ship. There are even a bunch of gifsets that parallel them.
Now I don’t dislike KC because of shipping. I’d have to be invested in Caroline and/or Klaus do like/dislike any of their ships and I’m not. However I am very fond of Tyler Lockwood’s character and since Klaroline was used as a vehicle to destroy his character, I dislike Klaroline for this reason. Or in other words, my reasons for disliking KC have nothing to do with either K or C, but what KC represents to T. And this - using KC to do destroy Tyler - it was done for racist reasons (it’s not a coincidence that KC became a thing in the season that JP, notorious racist took over the show) and it was embraced by fans for a lot of racist reasons. (I’m not saying that every single KC is a racist btw but that’s neither here nor there).

Thanks @good-beans for taggin me! I'm going to go with chapters from my fics because I don't even have three stories posted yet xD
My first posted Linked Universe fic. Basically it's about Warriors and his scarf and the damage it suffered over the journey. Although I like the idea of Warriors being very careful about his scarf I don't think its going to stay spotless over time. I had a lot of fun coming up with the different "scarf injuries"!
Chapter 6 of my FE Fates collection. It is a crossover chapter where Felix (3H) and Takumi (Fates) meet each other and have a sparring match. I was suprised there weren't any fics about this constellation, because they may seem very different but once you look closer I think they have many parallels. I did a lot of research about the differences between japanese and european bows and I still have no idea if I got it right xD
(If anyone else is writing something about the two of them, tell me please!)
I just love the dynamic between Hinata and Takumi and in general think Hinata deserves some more attention. My favorite sentence is ""A bodyguard I can replace" [...] "A friend I cannot.""
Sibling dynamics - something I like but is a challenge to write. But I personally think I did pretty well with the hoshidian siblings here. All sides have some of my own "agruing experiences" poured in.
(Also we need more stuffed animals in (fantasy) fanfiction. Give me children/people running around with plushie griffons and stuff and beds filled with giant stuffed dragons!)
Chapter 3 of my Lockwood & Co story. It was the first fic I posted and will always have a special place in my heart. I'm usually not into romance but these two sometimes are an exception. I like this chapter the most, because it has a calmer atmosphere, funnier moments and still friendship. The two chapters after that are still cute but some sentence/scenes do make me cringe there xD
(Still waiting for news of the Netflix series 🥲)
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love!
Ahhh thank you @fayesdiary for tagging me!! What a sweet tag game ;-;
Point of No Return - (fe echoes, 19k words)
This one is an au in which Lukas goes crazy goes stupid after selling his soul to Duma and becoming a witch. It was a ton of fun to write, and I’m so proud of the project as a whole. It involved some interesting character analysis and it’s my longest fic (both in its word count and the amount of time I planned, brainstormed, wrote, and edited)!
Don’t Leave Me - (mp100, 3k words)
This is a shimamine story focusing on what happened to Minegishi after the Mogami incident on WD day, and their complex feelings for Shimazaki while being saved/let down by him. I was always real happy with how it turned out! As much as I love Claw Minegishi, I always struggle with their characterization (especially when catching feelings in the middle of everything) so I’m always excited when I’m this satisfied with an end result.
Seeing Red - (fe echoes 4k words)
This is about Lukas reuniting with that jerk brother he mentions in the game after everything’s gone down. It was nice to write, and despite still being focused on Lukas, it was my first time writing anything for Mathilda – and jumping right into her pov was fun. I also enjoyed incorporating several of my own headcanons for Lukas’s family/post-canon events.
How to Grow a Plant From Scratch… - (mp100, 900 words)
This one’s a humorous how-to loosely from Minegishi’s pov, reflecting their life after changing their ways. I know this is just a short and silly thing, but it was so much fun to write in a different style/format that my traditional fics! I’d written it in class after a long period of writer’s block, and it felt so good to revisit my emotions on healing Minegishi…
What Lies at the End - (fe echoes, 7k words)
And this one’s about Forsyth’s knighting ceremony. This is old writing for me (definitely had me cringing rereading some parts, haha), but it was a big writing milestone for me and so always holds a special place in my heart. At the time, it was my longest story written both in word count and process time. Unlike my previous stuff, it involved getting input from others, actual research, and outlining. It also gave me a huge boost in confidence right when I started posting art/writing to the public – if you look at the dates, it’s part of the set of the very first writing I ever shared!
Aahh trying to remember mutuals who write – I’m gonna tag @chinchillasinunison, @windywhispers, @annalyticall, @ging-ler, @nie7027, @jannede, @thepatchycat

The thing that's been really fun about writing Not Even a Doorknob Between You is all the effort I've been putting into themes and parallels and such, even as short as it is. That's something I really want to get better at, and this is really good practice - and Lockwood & Co is a great fandom to write for in that way, because so much of it is already built in with the source material, ya know? Each of these chapters may feel small - they range from 500-750 words, they're not exactly beasts - but so much love and intentionality is going into the small details, and that kind of writing makes me feel so alive. Maybe after I'm done, I'll be able to explain more of it. I can say there are a lot of lil nuggets in there that I hope people notice or ask about, but even if they don't, I know it adds to the bigger picture of the whole story, and I am learning and becoming a better writer by thinking through how it all fits together, and that makes it all worthwhile.

1 and 2?
1. What is your most popular fic?
Answered here, but if I go by comments, the top 5 would be: Those Binary Stars (Endeavour), A Shifting Cadence (Endeavour), Prismatic (Stargate Atlantis), Not Even a Doorknob Between You (Lockwood & Co), Permutations About an Axis (Endeavour).
2. What fanfic do you wish you got more response on?
All of my Fringe fics, tbh. It's a small fandom now, even with a minor revival, and most of the interest is in Polivia (understandably! One of the great ships of sci-fi, tbh), so red!verse stuff like Parallel to Mine has a pretty small audience.
