I just realised like an old lady who doesn't internet, I accidentally replied to the original post you retweeted but re: Balthazar: I believe say in-game he took ‘pieces’ from BG2:ToB Balthazar to create himself. Kind of unclear why, but I guess Balthazar was a Bhaalspawn (and a super high level monk) so maybe he just had really great body parts? Also there's a crypt in Amkethran that's tied to some necromancy/lich stuff so ehhhhh Myrkul idk.

I guess he could've gone there for lich stuff that's true... It just all feels very shoehorned in which bugs me somewhat, esp when there's areas of the game that have clearly had so much thought put into them. Some of the writing quality just feels. WILDLY inconsistent

What have been the most unhinged bg3 fics you’ve come across? By unhinged I mean explicit, gory, creatively messed up, the works. I’m looking for recs specifically for Durgetash if you’ve got any, but I’d try other pairings if anything really crazy comes to mind.

HELLO ANON sorry I was so late coming to this but let's do the Durgetash recs! I was made for this ask!

So let's start with NeverwinterThistle who wrote THE most gory Durgetash which was anonymous, but has been claimed: Ten Silver Pieces. But they also have other great works and I'd recommend them all, but for SO sexy and also on the edge of disturbing I'd go for An Obedient Butcher, a Beast on a Leash which changed me.

M4rkab has two insanely good fics, one with the slayer form!!! delicious delicious.

The fabulous @lamortwrites has loads of GREAT fics here and my favourite is lose the halo, no need to resist, but I love ALL of them, truly.

@anderstrevelyan wrote the incredible The Heart, which is delicious.

@say-lene has a LOT of good fic but for the ones that are explicit and explore some interestingly morally dubious subjects, I gotta say Subjugation and the recent Apotheosis really raise some difficult subjects!

Of course of course, @popiellart's The hunt, the bargain, the council, the feast, the slaughter is my always go-to, it's not so explicit in its durgetash but it IS durgetash and it's phenomenal.

Letters by @mycolalia are subtle but a real creeping horror, I devoured them. Their Durge is so unique.

Also everything that @todderwodders and @baneschosen put out. They both TRULY have the most inventive take on durgetash of all time, exploring such brilliant things around themes like the changing body, body horror, religious iconography, Big Divorced Energy, divinity and mortality... honestly just go follow them if you don't, it's Big Brain Time over with both.

no one ever died for wanting too much by @mashamorevvna but I would ALSO STRONGLY recommend the Ketheric stuff, which goes even harder, fucking excellent stuff, and the Gortash/Orin which again goes SO hard.

If I may rec a few more things that are not durgetash but are durgetash adjacent:

Ritual Hunger is Durge/Bhaal and left my jaw on the floor.

In brutal praise where Bane and Bhaal take over their chosen's bodies

Your command is my wish, your demand is my desire which is Durge/Sceleritas and is so unique

Night Society by @loadofschist which has Gortash/Franc with a watching Durge :)

from the ones I do have, I simply must recommend the extremely long-windedly titled Eat your eyes, your visions, your goals, your hunger. (Drink your blood, your breadth, your mettle.), it's a BG3 The Dark Urge/the Elder Brain fic, and I'm very proud of writing it from the Elder Brain's POV,

and it's also received an amazing audio adaptation by @loadofschist

the ever-underappreciated The Dark Urge sleeps alone, which is a BG3 Lae'zel/Dark Urge doomed romance, and one of my favourite things I've ever written, a bit different to my usual style, I think

The hunt, the bargain, the council, the feast, the slaughter, which I regret not naming 'Unsparing' like i initially planned everytime I have to give a full title, it's a character study on the BG3 Dark Urge and the bizarre religiously psychotic relationship he's had with Gortash, Orin and Bhaal, and it's a return to form for me with regards to unbearably self-indulgent purple prose.

You ever wanted to read about Gortash opening a door and stepping through it but it takes him an entire chapter to do so? Now you can.

Also everyone should read On the last day of his childhood, Miquella made a man kill himself., an Elden Ring Miquella character study (not SOTE-compliant), and then viciously bully me about leaving it unfinished until I actually get my shit together and finish it, it haunts me

I absolutely adore the scene where he gets to eat the cookies but downs the first one out of hunger and then forces himself to relish the second one's taste.. It's so heartbreaking but oh so well written.

And yes omg the tiger fic!! It was one of the first ones I ever read and my god!! It's unbelievably good?? I constantly think about his ethnicity as Calishite to the point I've incorporated it into any roleplays I do with him lmao

Oh this is very interesting! I remember him saying about taking his ribs (I think) but iirc that's the only mention of the real Balthazar until Orin's note about him in act iii. I really wish they'd given us something more about bg3 Balth tho, it seems like a weird choice to give him the name and a couple of lines of exposition locked behind a skill check and not give us...anything else? At all? I wonder if this could be another side effect of cut content

I haven't played the ascension mod personally but I'm vaguely aware of it. I honestly had assumed that the reason real Balth wasn't in the tribunal was because they'd given his name to someone else and didn't want to confuse new players, but very interesting to consider the possibility of him getting to escape Bhaal. (It would have been VERY cool for a durge to get an int check or something to be like hey if he managed it maybe I could too)
