okay disjointed thoughts about the wicked movie 1 day after watching it lets go

-first of all, my movie theater put speakers outside and was just blasting the entire soundtrack on repeat. we could hear it down the street as we were driving up. that's just simply insane

-the opening establishing shots of the land were great but honestly. the very clearly animated dorothy and gang really annoyed me lmfao like I'm sorry it cannot have possibly been too hard to get a few extras to stand in front of a screen for point 5 seconds lol. it was so fast that I Know I'm being dramatic about it but they looked more cartoon than the flying monkey's did

-baby elphie and baby nessa are the cutest things I've ever seen in my life...

-I kinda...like the more human/animal hybrids that the stage show and the original movie had. sorry. like I Get they were only like that bc you can't make a real life goat sing and dance but they're just more interesting to look at than normal-looking animals who happen to talk!

-jeff goldblum's face being hidden every time he had a dance number...I have a sneaking suspicion that he wasn't really dancing lmfao

-whoever decided to bleach ariana's eyebrows deserves jail time

-when jonathan bailey first showed up on screen my mother leaned over to me and whispered 'he's HANDSOME...'

-when cynthia finished the 'wizard and I' I had to actually stop myself from applauding. it felt so weird and rude for there to be dead silence after that performance my GOD.

-also omg the part where she's singing about the wizard de-green-ifying her and the colors in the suncatchers were canceling out the green so she looked normal....inspired!

-madame morrible had these HUGE crystal ball looking rings and I just want them so much lmao

-glinda's friends were really funny the bit were she was like 'I need to lie down' and they immediately picked her up like a plank of wood and carried her off while the one was screaming 'WE NEED A PASTRY!!! IT'S AN EMERGENCY WE NEED A PASTRY!!!' had me cackling

-I wish there was more time between them moving in and 'what is this feeling' starting? like I wanted more time to see them bickering and then also more time seeing them getting along after the ball??

-'dancing through life' was BEAUTIFUL however two complaints 1) why would they cut the line 'what's the most swankified place around?' I Quote That Often and 2) at the end when glinda and elphie dance together like...it's beautiful and everything but from what I remember after their solo moment fieryo joins them?? and they have a cute three way dance moment??? and I'm very pro "they're all in love with each other" so I missed that lol

-also just in general would of liked to see more of fieryo with the girls! like it felt like ball->lion cub->emerald city, in the course of a couple days, and idk I just feel like they could have slowed it down a bit?? especially since they broke it into two movies?? like I don't think that Actually all happened in the span of a week, but they didn't do a good enough job establishing how much time was passing so it Felt like it. which is dumb bc then it just doesn't seem realistic that elphie and glinda are THAT attached to each other by defying gravity like it feels like not enough time has passed for them to really know each other

-boq felt very mild tbh I know ethan can be more unhinged than that

-would've liked to see glinda in magic class!!

-I was a little underwhelmed by elphaba's costumes? like there were clearly patterns on the material but it was all the same shade of black so you couldn't make anything out. it felt a bit flat. and I love the idea behind the freckles I agree with freckles I am pro freckles HOWEVER her's looked very obviously drawn on. like, I have seen way more realistic fake freckles before. so that was a bit annoying

-other than the lunchmeat dress glinda's costumes were good! especially loved the flower shaped one she wore to the ball

-the whole trying to escape in the hot air ballon scene was cool as hell but as the flaming remains of it fell to the ground I couldn't help but be like wow...she really just killed all those guards huh!

-also lmfao the bit in the woods with the lion club and fieryo has like a scratch on his temple. genuinely thought to myself 'is that his lobotomy scar' lmfao

-still trying to get over the part in dancing through life where people were dancing on the spinning gears in the clock tower...bitch

-the flying monkeys were correctly horrifying

-when I saw the broomstick I was like 'won't that be really uncomfortable between your legs' but then she just held it next to her like they do in the stage show and I was like....okay I guess you win that one? lmfao like I don't mind it for when she's hovering but when they had her like supersonic zooming on the broom it was weird that she wasn't actually riding it

-overall I just don't understand how it's an adaptation of act 1 but it's the length of the entire stage show?? lmao like I wish they took advantage of the split and added so much more but really really it was still just such a solid great movie. 5 stars. I can't keep talking about it right now I'm gonna start screaming.

I finished heartstopper season 3 yesterday and I wanted to share some of my favourite moments in no particular order:

Tao and Elle having a discussion about Elle’s dysphoria in the context of them being intimate. I think it’s really important to showcase this and start a dialogue about it. Just all of the discussions were important actually, Elle knows Tao loves her and he doesn’t care, but that doesn’t mean it’s not affecting her, especially with all the transphobia in the world and all the legislations right now.

How they adapted Charlie’s mental health struggles. From Nick asking for help from his aunt, which I think will really help people understand how they can help people that they love, to showing both Charlie and Nick’s perspective when he went away. They both struggled in their own way, and I think it was both important to showcase how Charlie wasn’t magically better after going away, and also how it’s important to not forget yourself when you’re trying to help someone else. Nick loves Charlie a lot, and he wants the best for him, but that doesn’t mean that all of his own feelings doesn’t exist as well.

Bonus points for Tara and Nick having a conversation about it. Where Tara applied her experiences with Darcy, and how although she loves them, and they were going through a lot, Tara still tried to also take care of herself.

Charlie applying the skills he learned in therapy to help Tara with her panic attack.

Imogen realising that she’s queer. Just hers and Sahara’s entire arc actually, and how they didn’t get together, because sometimes that isn’t the answer?

Isaac coming out as aroace and the characters having an important discussion about friendship and how it’s just as important as their romantic relationships. He doesn’t want a romantic relationship, but he’s constantly surrounded by people who make it seem like the most important thing in the world, and having that constantly shoved down his throat when he is reevaluating things about himself isn’t actually that easy.

Tori’s entire arc, and also her confronting Charlie about how she feels abandoned by him sometimes.

Michael was also just great. Unironically so funny. I love the little gift he found for Charlie and then all of them just meowing😭💀

Sex Ed basically being a class where you put a condom on a cucumber and then showing pictures of STIs. Some experiences are truly universal I’m afraid.

I NEED TO TALK ABOUT MY GIRLBAND DR RAAAHHHHHHH LISTEN UP FUCKERS

so first of all, my girlband is called Ultraviolet, or UV for short. our fans call us vivies, like how people call the lesserafim members "fimmies", and we call them vivies too. a little running joke between us is that the members are senior vivies and our fans are junior vivies. we debut on February 14th, 2025 with seven members; me, Sierra, Nicole, Emmy, Linh, Brooke and Annika.

me and Sierra are the moms of the group. we've been best friends since we met as trainees when we were both 12, and have been inseparable since. she's also my love interest <3

me and Emmy are like the tom and jerry of the group, always messing with each other and beating each other up (lovingly).

Linh, Brooke and Annika are the babies. as the eldest of the baby line, Linh is very protective of Brooke and Annika, even though Linh's 5'2 while Brooke is 5'5 and Annika is 5'9 😭. all of us older girls are way shorter than the youngest, but the shorter ones are very strong and baby the HELL outta the younger ones. its very much giving (see meme at bottom of post lmao)

im the oldest and the leader, while Sierra is twelve days younger than me and is my co-leader.

pretty much all of the members are queer in some regard except for Annika, who we joke is our token straight friend.

we end up becoming even more popular than bts 😼 this is my dr it can be as self indulgent as i want shush

The other day I was wondering

"If Nyxie had a weapon, what would it be ?"

So I thought hard about it (not at all, I didn't need to think about it the answer is so obvious to me)

So, if Nyxie were to have a weapon (for her job mainly, I don't think she'd use it when visiting the neighbourhood) ...

She'd have a frying pan.

Yup yup, Nyxie would totally use a frying pan as a weapon

It can cook, it can deal great brain damage, there is no better weapon !

I thought my case was closed, but afterward I went back on the thought because now I'm thinking, Royalty AU Nyxie would probably actually need weapons since she can't do offensive magic

So there you go Nyxie with more weapons

I think she mainly use little knifes, she's supposed to be sneaky

I found the idea of the gun funny but I'm not sure they have that in the Royalty au lmao so I played around with the idea of a whip

In the end I like the whip idea a lot, so I think what would be it ! The most likely answer in the end is that Nyxie uses both knifes and whip as her main weapons, and can wield many other weapons for survival if the need arise...

My girl is ressourceful !

Tho in the end, I don't think Nyxie is much of a fighter. Even when she prevents assassinations from happening, she'd rather kill in one blow than enter a fight, or have someone take care of it for her... Well, that's what Bailey is for

Read recently (April - Sept 2023)

A Restless Truth by Freya Marske. A sequel to A Marvellous Light, but can be read as a standalone. In a Victorian era world with magic, Maud is on a ship crossing the Atlantic when a fellow passenger is murdered. Maud will team up with a beautiful stranger that kind of turns her world upside down in order to solve the mystery. I loved this book and all the characters involved, and it was a great murder mystery too.

Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Bailey. In a wild west era where all reading material is closely controlled by those in power, Esther stows away with a troupe of travelling Librarians because she needs to escape a marriage to a man who killed the girl she was in love with. Very queer and with lots of gun-slinging and books. A fun quick read.

Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. Sequel to Nevernight, picks up basically where the previous one ended but also jumps ahead in a parallel narrative. Now involving gladiatorial combat, the tangled politics of the world, and finding out more about the tragic Corvere family. Utterly ridiculous in a fun way, I like this book.

The Fiancée Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur. A queer romance with a fake dating trope. This was very cute, though the romance genre isn't usually my favourite. I wish it had been a liiiittle more slow burn, and they deserved more than just the one sex scene lmao

Station Eternity by Mur Lafferty. Mallory seems to just attract murders all her life (in that they just randomly happen near her) runs away to a remote alien space station to try and make it so humans stop dying in her immediate vicinity. But when she finds out that a whole bunch of humans are incoming to the station, she realizes what's going on it much larger than just her own weird proclivity for finding herself at the scene of the crime. Sci-fi and murder mystery combo that I quite liked, though I felt like her ally Xan was weirdly unsympathetic to like....Mallory's trauma from finding a dozen dead bodies or witnessing murders. A weird book, but I liked it.

Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Torzs. Sisters Joanna and Esther were raised to protect their family's secret library of magical books, but Joanna is left alone to her duty when Esther runs away from home and doesn't return. Nick is the last known person who can write these magical books, and it might be killing him. They're all thrown together when a dangerous book nearly falls into the wrong hands. A standalone novel that creates a very interesting magic system and very likeable characters who all grow and a mystery that kept my attention. Will be looking forward to more from this author.

A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson. This small town was rocked 5 years ago when the most popular girl at school was murdered by her boyfriend who then killed himself, and her body was never found. Now, Pip is fairly sure he was actually innocent and the real killer was never found. And she's going to prove it as part of her senior capstone project. This is a YA murder mystery done very well. Lots of twists and turns (and lots of me wishing Pip would practice better computer security, but whatever) and I'll be looking for the other books in this series.

Blood of the Chosen by Django Wexler. Picks up a few weeks after Ashes of the Sun, with siblings Maya and Gyre still on opposite sides of the fight. Gyre tries to help another rebellion while Maya is sent off to spy on a potentially traitorous rival of her mentor. Definitely a middle book in a trilogy, but a big big plus this book has over its predecessor is that the very annoying character suddenly became wayyy less annoying and in fact became quite funny. Had some twists I didn't see coming and had me reaching for the final book right away.

Emperor of Ruin by Django Wexler. Picks up right away once again, with Maya and Gyre, uh, running for their goddamn lives? This author writes fight and battle scenes very well and I also liked the amount of research the characters have to do. Love how plot points from the first book circled back to be relevant once again. And once again the queer romance in this series is very sweet, even as the characters are attempting to not die. I really liked this series overall.

Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh. How do I even describe this book without giving too much away? Kyr is a soldier in training, one of the last remnants of the human race in the galaxy, after humanity was basically wiped out during a war about 20 years ago. But when her twin brother is assigned a suicide mission and she's assigned to just have babies forever, she strikes out with a hostage alien and her brother's strange friend to try and help keep her brother alive. And along the way, must confront the truth of everything she's ever known. I LOVED this book. Kyr's upbringing has echoes of cults and something like north korea, and she struggles with that throughout the whole book, it's not something tossed away easily once she discovers what's going on. And in her flaws, there's such a humanity, and my heart hurt to see her in pain. Highly recommended.

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. This is non-fiction, which is a bit unusual for me, but wow it's great. This tells the story of the Osage Murders, a series of killings during the 1920s where dozens of members of the Osage Nation were murdered due to their tribe's ownership of oil rights in the region, and then the investigation and cover-ups that went along with them. Leaves you feeling bereft by the sheer volume of injustices committed against the Osage nation (and still, no doubt, being committed to this day). But there are still feelings of hope and kindness and generosity and grace, as this community tries to both protect itself and heal, even as the writer discovers more and more crimes that aren't part of the official tally.

when will people realize that ariel being black isn't the "unrealistic" part of a story about a friggin mermaid who's the daughter of a deity, is able to speak to fish and birds, and makes magic deals with sea witches? you aren't mad that ariel being black is unrealistic, you're mad because you're a fucking racist and it's showing lmao

anyway i think halle bailey was a good choice. she's super talented and it's heartwarming to see so many little black girls absolutely loving this adaption with a princess who looks like them. i don't have the highest hopes for the movie but i'm excited to see how she performs in it

IDC about the movie either and i think remakes are usually shit but halle was definitely a great choice in terms of talent - her voice is something else. it's soooo gorgeous, soooo disney princess and i'm sure she'll do a great job. anyway yeah the realism argument kills me LMFAO like. it's a movie about mermaids and youve got grown adults arguing a Black lead actress is what ruins the immersion. shut the fuck up. some people really are just entitled and also bored to the core. i agree, it's plain racism. unfortunately the media does this whole circus every few years. but yeah those vids of the little kids reacting to her are so so cute!!

originally stuck at a 3-way tie between BH, sorcerer, & rogue for first place in the 16/7 update, the votes for travis have started to nice and cleanly separate. blood hunter has taken the lead, jumping to 1st place with 6 votes, with sorcerer coming in close behind in 2nd place, with 5 votes. surprise contestant druid has shot up from the bottom of the polls to reside in 3rd place, with a comfortable 4 votes; overtaking rogue, which still remains at 3 votes. people seem a lot less sure for what they think ashley will be. she’s finally gotten a defined leader (bard, with 5 votes), but everything is still a little less spread out than some of the other cast members. 2nd place is currently occupied by monk, with 4 votes. However, there’s currently a 3-way tie for 3rd place between warlock, wizard, & fighter. it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.

(if he does end up becoming a cleric, the chaos that will ensue will be... unparalleled. no one sam should have all that power)

Top 20 Songs of 2020

Okay y’all, here’s my top kpop songs of 2020 list for this year (finally, good lord this year felt like an eternity). These are the 20 songs that I felt really made an impact on me this year and why 💕

Starting from last to first, here we go!

20. Dr. Bebe, Pentagon - this song deserved so much better tbh the music video was everything, their acting was excellent and the vocals were *chefs kiss* i also loved the dark, creepy vixx -reminiscent vibes

19. Back Door, Stray Kids - Ok like objectively i know that God’s Menu was like their piece de resistance this year, but Back Door was just so fun and had a great bass line and the choreo was SO good

18. Cry For Me, Twice - this literally JUST came out like two seconds ago but let me tell you cry for me has legit been stuck in my head from the SECOND i heard it just ask my sister she’s this close to killing me next time i sing the chorus

17. Red Sun, Dreamcatcher - Let’s be real, dreamcatcher’s entire studio album was perfect from start to finish, and red sun was a standout among that perfection for me like from the magical mystical instrumental to dami’s absolutely earth-shattering rap line, just absolute gold my dude

16. Kick It, NCT 127 - This was a very polarizing song for a lot of people i feel, but for me the concept was literally executed to perfection. It had so much potential to be cheesy and gimmicky, but it totally wasn’t and i think it’s because nct 127 committed SO wholeheartedly to the concept

15. So Bad, StayC - THIS song. I actually already had my list all written out when i discovered so bad by stayc and i literally had to reconsider my ENTIRE existence. They are so so good with such a talented production team backing them and they’ve literally just debuted.

14. Dun Dun, Everglow - A lot of people really hated this song, and don’t get me wrong i had my own issues with the line and screen time distribution for sure, but you can’t deny it’s a total banger

13. Nonstop, Oh My Girl - This is the kind of song that i never really expected to fall in love with. It’s bubbly and cute and quite like youthful, but oh my girl honestly pull that concept off so well and they had me immediately hypnotized

12. Be In Love, Itzy - 2020 was the year of bailey eating her own words aka the year of me falling in love with itzy. when itzy debuted i seriously thought if they stuck with their concept i probably wouldn’t ever be into their music but lmao. they showed me. anyway this b side is seriously underrated and it really shows the girls vocal talents off, especially lia and yuna

11. Love Killa, Monsta X - hyungwon. that’s it that’s the post . . . jk but for real, visuals popped off. love killa was exactly what i’ve been wanting from mx for the past year or so. they hit the nail right on the head with the this one.

10. Secret Story of the Swan, izone - my relationship with izone is basically like my relationship with itzy part 2. I always appreciated them for their talents and having a very recognizeable sound but i could never get into their music. then SSOTS happened, and to be honest it STILL gets stuck in my head at random times

9. Phobia, Stray Kids - i LOVE this b side. for a while i thought it might replace Voices as my favourite skz track, but it just didn’t have the longevity that voices does. that said, it’s still such a good song with an important message did i mention that i love stray kids

8. La Di Da, Everglow - i have said it before and i’ll say it again: no one is doing it like everglow. this song came so out of the blue and blindsided so many people with how unexpectedly different it was, all while being a certified banger. the line distribution is aMAZING, you get to hear each member’s unique flavor, the straight 80’s vibe is immaculate, the styling is God-tier, just . . . everything. i LOVE this comeback

7. Eternally, TXT - if you know me, you know i love a good beat switch-up (i mean, my ult group is stray kids for crying out loud) and ladies. this song is the switch up to end all switch ups. txt somehow managed to combine two completely different tracks, each of which would have been A+ songs all on their own, and somehow make something a million times better. listening to eternally is a whole experience in and of itself and i haven’t heard anything that could compare to it to this day

6. Girls, Nature - UGH. WHAT an underappreciated masterpiece. girls by nature does everything that other companies are so afraid to do with their girl groups: a strictly dark, horror concept, a haunting melodic line with no need for a rap breakdown because it stands on its own as is, a visual concept that does not sexualize the girls in any way but instead tells a story of a person at the mercy of the one they love. it’s e v e r y t h i n g. Not to mention the song has one of the best pre choruses i’ve EVER heard.

5. Wannabe, Itzy - Let’s be honest, you knew this was going to be here. Everyone and their grandma was learning ryujins shoulder move. this was literally the summer of itzy’s wannabe. This is actually the comeback that got me onboard the itzy train and now i’m barreling down the mountain going 200mph and can’t find the breaks

4. I Can’t Stop Me, Twice - I think onces really had no idea where this comeback was gonna go. after more and more got such mixed responses from fans, we all weren’t really sure what direction the company was going to take twice in next. personally, i’m SO happy they went for the retro synth 80’s vibe concept. it was current enough to fish in non fans and keep new onces engaged but they also added their own unique twice spice to it, and i’ve been playing it on repeat for weeks also stan risky risky wiggy wiggi

3. Oh My God, G Idle - Ahhhh, yes. another polarizing song from gidle. omg for me was exactly what i needed from gidle. They’d been playing around with the darker concepts but had never fully committed to the potential that i saw in their music, but with omg we finally got the see them go full out with it, and i don’t think ANYONE could have done it better. The drop while empty was somehow so satisfying, the visials in the mv were visceral and witchy and to think that soyeon wrote and produced such a masterpiece. all i can say is bravo

2. Daisy, Pentagon - if this song doesn’t hold a very special place in your universe heart then buddy i think it’s time to throw the whole heart away. daisy, on top of being the first song to earn pentagon a well deserved music show win, was so emotionally moving from the lyrics to the mv to the choreo. you don’t need to know korean to feel exactly what the writer is feeling when hui sings that chorus, and that my friend is true artistry.

1. Answer, Ateez - Bet you were expecting a stray kids song. answer though has had my whole entire heart body and soul from the second it came out all the way back in january. for it to last a whole year as my favourite song of 2020 really speaks volumes as to how incredibly talented ateez and their production team are. Over the course of this absolute shit year, this song really inspired me to push forward, to keep working toward my goals and to keep believing in myself, and i think that’s a pretty amazing feat for one single song.

Anyway y’all sorry for the unnecessarily long post. I’ve just been compiling this list for months and was really excited to share. If any of my followers or just anyone who reads through this wants to share their own list, id love to see what songs impacted you this year! Happy New Years’ yall!

his sense of humor is lighthearted and genuine. you know that kid who unabashedly laughs at their own jokes/puns? that would be gilbert. that kid that laughs too hard while telling a story, so much that they can’t even finish it? that would also be gilbert.

he’s self-proclaimed king of the forbidden forest, but he also doesn’t like going out in them too much anymore ever since becoming a prefect because he doesn’t want to get in trouble if caught.

absolutely adores gobstones!!!! has been playing since he was a little kid!!! what a nerd, bless his heart. he’s even captain of the hogwarts team. :’’) he’s a quidditch beater too!! joined in his third year.

baby boi is bi bi bi, but he only.....kissed one (1) girl and that’s it kjdbcfdjsnd he’s? not shy or anything, but like...hey sometimes life happens and/or he’s hyperfocused on something else. he probably gets rly flustered when thinking ab other guys like that though bc he’s!! not used to it.

ALRIGHT!

the fawley family was never one for fanatic blood purity, despite maintaining their own place among the sacred twenty-eight throughout generations. from former minister for magic hector fawley, to his son and daughter-in-law, to little gilbert. however they were quickly labeled blood traitors as years progressed. hector jr. and his wife, grace, taught their son the importance of acceptance. after all, they adopted a muggleborn witch and raised her as their own. these ideals and actions heavily clashed with the traditional pureblood beliefs, but the fawley’s paid no attention to the sneers and disapproving looks. they were happy and that was all that mattered.

with his sister being muggleborn, mr and mrs fawley thought it would be beneficial for both children to be acquainted in that world as well. a local playground in the muggle area, he and his sister would spend hours upon hours running around. often, he would pick nearby flowers and bring them to his mother with that bright smile of his. to this day, those moments are some of his favorite.

when his fifth year of hogwarts came around, gilbert was entrusted with a prefect badge. he still isn’t entirely sure how or why they chose him, because he thought there were better candidates, but that didn’t stop him from treating it with newfound pride. he also began working even harder in his classes, despite the occasional exploding cauldron in potions.......oops???? HE TRIES OK IT JUST.....DOESN’T ALWAYS WORK OUT. slug’s pretty patient with him, but like, also you can tell he’s #overit because c’mon gilbert goddamn you’re in sixth year now you can’t keep making silly first year mistakes sometimes :///

ESPECIALLY if you wanna be a healer??? get it together!!!

okay so like --- all in all, gilbert is ambivalent about the other timelines. on one hand, he thinks it’s interesting, but on the other it’s terrifying. he wouldn’t have minded getting the first timeline admittedly, though the mere thought of the second timeline gives him chills. with the war approaching in his original reality, who knew what could become of them? it worries him greatly.

but i mean again overall he.....doesn’t really care? it’s like eh....he’s the same, so is his sister & their family.......he’s kinda weirded out if his friends aren’t the friends he knows but.,,,, water off a duck’s back with this one lmao

TIMELINE ONE --- everything is pretty much the same??? he’s happy????? the happiest ball of sunshine???? still in hufflepuff, still a prefect, still a geek ass nerd who is president of the gobstones team...,,, it’s just gilbert minus the worry of a dumb war tbh

TIMELINE TWO --- it starts off exactly the same but when the war tipped in favor of the death eaters and they won?? hahahaha PAL. OH MAN. BUDDY. HE WAS SSSSSHAKING. not like oh my god i’m scared ( well, yeah maybe that too ) but like..............HECKA MAD. he’s never been really much of a fighter, and he’s the first to admit it, but he’s also not the type to sit back and watch shit like that? very >:(  ,,,,,,,with his family being blood traitors, it wasn’t much of a good time regardless that he’s pureblood lol

buT!! gil definitely 100000% snuck as many assignments back to selina as he could since it was recommended that muggleborns didn’t attend school for, uh, obvious reasons. and you KNOW mcgonagall helped him do it!! 

and....it’s ...,,, 1:40am, so. i should..........go to bed....or something. probably. idk this is a mess as per usual when it comes to me dsjjs but i love him a whole ton

Voices of War panel

Josh Keaton has played since vanilla, started as a night elf hunter, then switched to Horde to play tauren druid.  He has since switched to a worgen druid (as our king should, after all!)  :P  lol 

Josh re: getting cast to play Anduin in Cataclysm:  “It was hilarious because I remember when I had my first Horde character I’d always try to attack Anduin in the castle ... and then I would die, and it was fun.”

Re: growing into ”manduin”:  “His trinkets have dropped.”  LMAO

Josh’s father is alive and he hasn’t experience that serious kind of loss IRL, so he doesn’t have that to draw from when acting, but it helps to be so deeply familiar with the characters and the lore.

“I’m so glad our Little Lion decided to play Horde,” Patty purred, putting a hand on Josh’s back.  He replied that he “saw the error of his ways.”

They did improv in the studio to get into the right headspace for the Sylvanas Warbringer cinematic, and Patty says she got carried away.  She ended up throwing Delaryn’s VA’s soda across the studio.  (SOMEONE DRAW THAT WITH THEIR CHARACTERS!!)

Senior Narrative Designer Steve Danuser said they better not have a bow and arrow in the studio for that reason!  LOL

Patty says she survived domestic abuse in her childhood, and that rage can be channeled into kickboxing (which she also does) or voicing a character like Sylvanas.

Laura says her body posture in the studio is a big part of how she gets Jaina’s voice.  She laughed about how long she’s been with this character, how Jaina started as a “bright-eyed” young girl “in a crop top.”

She was in tears by the end of the recording sessions for “Daughter of the Sea.”  And not just because she’s terrified of singing in front of people.  She says that actually helped her channel the vulnerability Jaina felt upon realizing what the people of her homeland thought of her. 

(It’s weird to see Indira in civilian garb when I’m so used to seeing her in her Dornish finery from Game of Thrones.)

She nailed the audition.  As soon as they heard her, they knew she was Katherine Proudmoore.  She says she’s not a gamer, but she immediately felt at home among the folks at Blizzcon.  All her lines were recorded in London. 

Indira loves the contradictions within Katherine, how much loss she’s suffered, how much pride she has, but how she has to get past that and welcome her daughter back.  She says she’s a mother, herself, so that helped her get into that mindset.

Indira loves doing voice work because it’s not about your looks, ethnicity, weight, or anything but your voice.  It’s a pure kind of acting that she enjoys.

Once they knew Kul Tiras was the setting of the next expansion, the reunion of Jaina and her family (especially her mother) was the first thing they seized on as the heart of the story.  Katherine is the face of the nation, not just as its political leader, but as the embodiment of their feelings of betrayal and eventual forgiveness toward Jaina.

Susan is demonstrating what it’s like when Talanji gets loopy on too much caffeine.  ;)  (Jet lag from London isn’t fun, I’m sure.)  She’s done a Netflix show with Tracer’s VA, so she had a peek at the Blizzard magic before and wanted to be part of it when the role came around.

She’s adorably freaking out over a Talanji cosplayer.  Pure joy on both sides.  They even hugged!  OMG!  Love it!

She says having massive story arcs is difficult on TV, especially for a woman of color who doesn’t have a model’s figure (as she put it, although she’s gorgeous if you ask me).  Her characters tend to get killed off early on, so having Talanji be around for the long haul is a treat.  She loved how Talanji has a full background, is part of an established world, and feels fully fleshed out.

She says they recorded in London in the evening, when it was early morning in California, which actually worked well for her, because “stuff has happened” by that time of the day, so she had a fuller range of emotions to draw from, instead of starting fresh in the morning.

On to Rokhan’s VA, Abubakar Salim, who says he’s overwhelmed by the love and support he’s felt from the Blizzcon crowd.  He does play WoW himself, starting as a human paladin (boos from the crowd) but now with the Horde (cheers).

Steve said he also plays Horde, and Laura protested (tongue in cheek) that the panel is biased.

Abu enjoys playing Rokhan because even though the Darkspear have suffered so, so much, he’s still undaunted, still working so hard to bring the trolls together.  He’s a practical and “earthy” character.  They joked about Rokhan writing haiku in his spare time.  But the word “badass” still is the best way to describe him.

Alex is up next, starting off with an eerie Bwonsamdi laugh.  “The Harder They Come” is an old Jamaican movie, and one of the characters in there was the inspiration for Bwonsamdi’s voice, although he got funnier and more mischievous as the character developed.  Alex joked that purple reading glasses help him get in character.  He says Bwonsamdi “wants love.”

Alex’s parents are from Haiti, so the lore of that place informed his performance, too.

And last but not least, Scrollsage Nola!  She thanked everyone for all the love the player base has given her.  She says she “loves helping people...turtles...  I’m in for it.”

The actors then went through and read some of their dialog.  Josh and Patty doing Anduin and Sylvanas’ dialog from the throne room in the Battle for Lordaeron was hilarious, the looks they gave each other.

Laura and Indira did a bit of Jaina and Katherine’s reunion.

Susan got a big cheer for shouting “Zandalar forever!”

The crowd also loved Abu screaming “Nothing gonna stop de Horde!”

Plenty of creepiness from Alex.

And the grand finale:  “A TURTLE MADE IT TO THE WATER!”  Everyone was holding their breath when it came time, and then the cheers erupted.  Heehee...

That’s the end of the main panel.  It was so cool to put (real) faces to the voices.  I’m always fascinated by the voice actors who bring the game to life.

AND LAURA BAILEY IS SINGING “DAUGHTER OF THE SEA”!  LIVE!  EEEEE!!!! 

A well-deserved standing ovation after that!
