Eddie Munson who gets his Lizzie McGuire moment by going to Rome with an university art program.

The only requirement is to visit museums regularly and redraw the art pieces in his style and submit his work by the end of it.

What seems to be a piece of cake for Eddie, gets a lot more complicated when the average Italian museum worker is met with his peculiar drawings style -which might include evil dragons and decapitated heads in some of Caravaggio’s Still Lives and, in worst cases, some additions to Christian art pieces that have been described as “blasphemy” as he was getting escorted out and banned from the Vatican’s Museums (and maybe the whole country, Eddie still doesn’t know so he avoids that part of the city just to be safe).

And Eddie, who will never compromise his work integrity for a few Italian bigots, ends up in one of the least known and visited museums of the city. Which still, by his standards, contains fine art he can work on.

And if this particular museum, which is one hour and a half of public transport from his house, has a really hot security guard who follows him closely and barks at every tourist that tries to take a picture of his drawings, he surely won’t complain.

I actually have seen Fantabulosa as well, which I watched in 2019 after first discovering Michael and binge-watching my way through his filmography. For some reason, though, I'd completely forgotten that that quote was said in there (within the context of the morality of casual sex, no less), so I very much appreciate you refreshing my memory.

What's really interesting is that the quote itself isn't actually originally from Fantabulosa--it's from W. Somerset Maugham, who was a closeted gay author/playwright who married a woman (Syrie Wellcome) out of obligation. Per Wikipedia:

"After the South Seas trip Maugham visited the US and was joined by Syrie. In May 1917 they married at a ceremony in New Jersey. He entered the marriage from a sense of duty rather than from personal inclination, and the two quickly began to grow apart."

So yes, I get the feeling that the "what do any of us have but our illusions" quote being featured in Fantabulosa was not an accident, and Michael saying it in that GO 2 interview last year was even less of one. To quote Douglas MacKinnon from a few years ago: "Everything is meant..."

having adhd is such a joke the way my brain cannot operate on the information that replying to anyone requires less effort than like. a letter. a Formal Missive. like the part of my brain that informs me if i have enough energy to do something is just so fucking wrong on that count. 100% convinced that to send one (1) text message requires like. the equivalent energy to composing a formal letter of introduction to the queen of genovia. i know that this is literally how the adhd brain works on many fronts, the discrepancy between “what my energy is imagining a task will take” and “the actual energy it will take” surprises me every time i discover it happening even after decades of carefully managing that EXACT discrepancy. and yet! if i owe two (2) people messages 30% of my brain becomes devoted to the shame of not having sufficient credentials to do it or something. like something is Broken broken in that wiring LOL

I don't normally express my *opinions* on Lizzie and Lizzie x Tommy here because I absolutely hate the feeling of raining on other people's parades, but I don't think that this really counts as bashing, so I'm just gonna leave it here and put it under a cut so those who don't agree can just scroll on by. This is just my opinion, guys! No hard feelings or anything if you feel differently!

I really don't want Tommy and Lizzie to get back together in the movie.

Lizzie's character went through so much development in finally accepting that Tommy can't be who she wants him to be and breaking free from him, and I feel like it would be a massive disservice to both characters, but particularly her, to force them back together. That storyline was closed pretty definitively at the end of season 6, and I honestly don't think that there's time to be reopening and focusing on it when we've only got about 3 hours max to work with as far as runtime. And there are just so many other aspects of the story that I think would be far more interesting to explore.

She was so miserable the entirety of their marriage, and deserves to be free of the Shelbys and their bullshit and to either be happy on her own with Charlie or go find that nice, normal man that she so badly wanted Tommy to be post season 4, and finally have some peace and happiness.

And Tommy deserves to not be locked in a marriage with someone who only loves the fantasy of him that she's projected onto him, or to be weighted down by feeling like he's failed her by not being able to be someone he's not. I think that they could be happy co-parenting Charlie together, but outside of that, I really feel like they should go their separate ways.

I always had the interpretation that Ruby was the only thing holding them together. And that the moment she died, so did their marriage, effectively. I do think that they cared for each other, but I don't think either of them really were in love with the other (as mentioned above, I think even Lizzie only loved her fantasy of Tommy, and not who he actually was). And by the end they both just seemed to bitter and resentful of each other. So it's really hard for me to root for them to end up together.

Anyway, I've always gotten the feeling that most people in the fandom strongly feel like they are *the* couple of the show and are passionately in love and should be together, so I shall now go hide under a rock to avoid the barrage of shouting likely to commence in my comments and inbox 🙃
