how so much of her life and her sense of self is twisted up with elliot and the job. m saying with elliot around there was no room for another man. because elliot made sure of that (dean porter you’re nothing) and because their mutual dedication to their job is as much about their partnership as it is svu but for elliot to vanish from both- if the job is also the partnership then who’s flying the eo and elliot can just put his papers in? liv can’t give up on svu anymore than she could have stopped loving him right then. and suddenly all of this love and family is seemingly at her fingertips, presumably with elliot “out of the way” allowing her a chance at the real happiness and intimacy lindstrom is still floating ten years later, and there’s not the same incentive to spend every night at her desk and she hates half her team now and everything even the air reminds her of elliot so she can go out with haden and reconnect with simon and spend time with calvin without elliot telling her every other guy in the world is an asshole or that she wants a family too much or that she’s getting too close to the cases (“it was always temporary” and she wonders if that was true for them too) but nothing sticks and no one is him and even if they were they’d still have to leave eventually and “this never happened”
