The Food Issue

This post is all about food. These are photos from our most recent roll, and instead of making 3 boring food posts, I decided it would be easier to just combine them all to really take in their glory. (Also, the order has nothing to do with how good any of them are)

1. The Boiling Crab

What an absolute shit show (I mean this in the best possible way), being first timers we didn't know exactly what to expect. I was certain Stryder had eaten crab before, and my last time eating it someone helped me the whole way through. First off we weren't guaranteed seats at the restaurant, but they had given us another option of taking it "To-Go" and sitting at the Home Cafe across the way. So we said okay and ordered a snow crab and a bucket of shrimp. As we are waiting I find out Stryder has no idea how to eat crab either so we spent 10 minutes watching YouTube videos on how to crack open crab legs. 

Eating at this place can get a little messy. If you don't know how to eat crab just google it while you wait for your table, it's not that difficult. The price is reasonable and it's a really fun experience on a date, just not a first date, this is a good 4th or 7th date kind of a place. 

So we go to this cafe filled with many other "To-Go"ers and open the menu and are required to order 1 drink they even had shellers. It must look awfully funny to people who are just coming here to get a coffee... surrounded by the many eaters of seafood. So we get the food, struggle to eat it, the shrimp still had heads and I felt a little squeamish ripping their heads off.. so Stryder so nicely took care of that part for me. I also didn't dress appropriately either. I should have gone in something a little less delicate. 

Another really awesome thing about this place is that they had board games. So afterward we played Jenga, and I won. Then we played Uno, and I won. Then we played chess, and I mistakenly won..... Stryder later woke me up in the middle of the night and said I didn't win that we could have kept playing... 

2. Taco Zone 

Arguably one of the best tacos here in LA. Located in a Vons parking lot in Echo Park. They even have makeshift tables they set up on cement poles. My favorite thing to get here is the tacos, I could eat 100 of them, I only ordered 3 this time, but I could realistically eat at least 10. You handpick your toppings and sauces, and it's really effing good.  Also they have BRISKET, which a lot of trucks don't offer. 

These tacos are pretty good, nothing to get too worked up over. The last time I went to taco zone some guy in plaid shorts was yelling at a french girl for cutting in line. By the time I got my taco everyone at taco zone was yelling at each other. It was entertaining watching people argue while I ate my taco. But, honestly, don't fight with people at a late night taco truck, just have a little patience. 

3. Philippe's 

A Los Angeles Relic, Philippe's, has the best french dip sandwiches ever. I don't like french dip sandwiches, but I like these ones. Also, there is this Dijon mustard they have on the tables and I don't even like mustard, but this Dijon mustard is okay with me.  Oh, and they have pickled eggs in a jar at the counter. 

This is a great place to have lunch if you're on a date, or a cop, or on a date with a cop. But seriously, every time I go here there are cop cars out front, maybe french dip sandwiches are the new donuts. Regardless of who's eating here these sandwiches are worth waiting in long lines that sometimes form in this 100+ year old establishment. 

Next, the not so food part. 

The Natural History Museum's Rose Garden. We laid next to the roses and took a nap. We smelled red roses, white roses, lavender roses, yellow roses and orange roses. Ever since I met Stryder I've had an affinity for flowers. He used to pick me flowers and give them to me every time he'd visit me. Then we started to press flowers together, then we decided to make things with these pressed flowers....... well we just never actually did. Anyways, the gardens are beautiful and free to visit.
