Hi all, I got back from UK Games Expo on Sunday - a fantastic weekend!
So great to spend time with good friends playing games, chatting and laughing. I travelled up with close mates and we stayed together in an Airbnb apartment which proved to be ideal (and far cheaper than us all getting hotel rooms!).
Our intention on the Friday was just to scope the place out and play some board games, which we did (though I did splash out on a paint set too), and very early on reached the Fighting Fantasy stand where I bumped into my friends Dave and Chris, which was great timing! It was lovely to chat with Ian Livingstone and Jonathan Green, and also Dan at Blue Giant Studios again and talk about the upcoming Fighting Fantasy Fest in September, the special miniature I'll be painting, and see that they've put my painted Bloodbeast on the box!
Tumblr media
Ian also let me know that there will be a gallery of the FF minis I did for him in his forthcoming book, so that was an amazing surprise!
Another highlight was that I got to chat with Gav Thorpe and Andy Chambers and try out Zeo Genesis , their new sci fi skirmish game, which was a lot of fun - I got to take a free mech suit mini too!
Tumblr media
I had lovely chats also with Bad Squiddo Games, Blue Giant Studios, Cerberus-studios, Realms of Tiberium, Moonstone and Louis Downs (Louis and I have been trying to meet up at the last 4 shows!), MODIPHIUS, Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy, and finally got to meet Man O Kent Games, Mike Hutchinson (Gaslands), Jon Hodgson Illustration, Lost Haven Art (who produced my logo and business promo material) The Thornless Rose, Rolltex Texture Rollers, and my friends Gonders, Julian Sparrow and Geordie Calgar who I know through Twitter etc. On the Saturday night, some friends and I had a big game of Grimdark Future One Page Rules, with Luke pitching his Ork horde against mine and Saul's Rebel Guerrillas:
Tumblr media
A great game, very hard fought, and eventually the orks victory came down to one dice roll to see if a squig was shaken after losing a combat - it passed and so finished by contesting the objective on our side of the table!
Purchases...
I decided to mainly buy things I had been promising myself for a while, and take advantage of show discounts, so in an effort to divorce myself from Citadel paints, I got the Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl base set from Element Games, and a rechargeable lamp from Daylight, which will be so useful when I'm painting at shows! I also picked up The Art of The Miniature Painting Tutor from Warlord Games  because I had heard so many good things about it. I did get a few minis, but deliberately kept that to a minimum as I genuinely want to clear my backlog... (yeah, I know...) so I got a couple of brilliant new Halflings from Bad Squiddo Games, one of Duncan's Sir Coats minis, and after my painful experiences with those Anarchy stencils a few weeks ago, I was determined to get some diamond stencils from Steel Harpy!  Also, as well as the  Zeo Genesis mechsuit, I was given a free mini from the Onepagerules folks. And given all that, I'm actually not feeling too bad this week - I'm continuing work on the Striking Scorpions and I've finished the first five, with the others well on their way, so I would think they'll be ready to photograph later today:)

Chapter 1: Livingston Saturday Night
Summary: Eric and Jackie decide to celebrate their one-year marriage anniversary by going on vacation. A chain of events involving a sunburn, hair dye, and lots of alcohol results in both of them cheating on each other. Will they be able to keep the secrets and keep their marriage together? Probably not.
Who's the blonde stranger out there with my wife? What were they doin' in the moonlight? This side of Texas is all new to me Who are these strangers who live by the sea?

LORNE: It'll be fabulous. Believe me, Jerry. Yes. It's Grapes of Wrath in outer space. Uh-huh. Oh, it's got heart. Yes, it's got laser battles. (takes off his sunglasses) It's got a timely message of interstellar poverty. Uh-huh. Listen, have your assistant call my assistant. We'll set something up. Good enough. Yeah, intrigued, but wants to know who's playin' Tom Joad. Uh-huh. Well, I'm pretty sure that Henry Fonda's dead, sweetie. Yeah. Bring him back to life? Let me talk to my science people. 7,8,15,18 for fanfiction writer ask!
The wonderful @mangotortoise always indulges me on these FanFiction Writer Asks 🥰 Thank you for being an enabler (and curious about my process lol)!
7. When is your preferred time to write?
I don't really have one! Because I'm so scatterbrained, I write the moment an idea strikes if I can, even if it's just texting myself a few lines of dialogue I don't want to forget. Being a working mom doesn't leave much time aside from evenings/ late nights/ weekends, but when I get those Saturdays that I can wake up, park myself at my computer, and just go all day between switching laundry and loading the dishwasher, I love those days. I'm also really excited to write after I write loose scenes/ notes in my notebook because I end up expanding on them so much in the Word document effortlessly!
8. Where do you take your inspiration from?
Obviously, as fanfic writers, we're inspired by the source material, but my motivations beyond that vary by story. I'll stick to my BttF ones here.
For the Time Circuits Series, it wasn't born out of "I want to make a quality MartyOC across the trilogy" (even though that was ultimately my goal). I watched these films growing up with my dad a lot, and the idea of giving Doc a daughter and exploring that father-daughter relationship was my initial motivation before I even realized I wanted to rewrite the series years later.
Once Upon a Time in the West was at first a "stuck in 1885" AU for Cowboyvember, but after years of working on the T-rated trilogy rewrite, I wanted to try my hand at branching out into topics I'd never written about (depression, sexuality, etc). I was motivated to get a little grittier, and as someone who you could easily call modest, I wanted to see what I was capable of beyond the T rating. And I feel like I finally have enough life experience to give an accurate voice to these topics.
15. If you write OCs, how do you decide on their names?
Well, that depends! I enjoy the repetition and echoing in the BttF trilogy a lot, so it made sense that Doc's daughter is Emma (since he's Emmett). She just never had another name to me. Her middle name is "Jean", and at the time I decided that, I think I'd just reread Harry Potter, and "Jean" is Hermione's middle name. It's also an 80s nod to "Billie Jean".
Emma's mother is Dolores - because "DeLorean". And I think that plays a bit of a personal role in Doc choosing the DeLorean aside from all the science hoo-ha.
Clarence Livingston in There Are No Roads was the son of the cabinet maker in 1885. The cabinet maker's sign says "T. Livingston", and as Clarence was sort of the love interest in that story for Emma, his name became the male version of "Clara." So we have "Emmett and Clara" and "Emma and Clarence", and it makes me happy lol.
Other OCs I've created, it's a matter of making sure they're period-appropriate and a lot of "screen testing" -- saying the name out loud in dialogue, seeing how it fits against the canon names, etc. It's just like naming a child, honestly! It has to sound right and feel right. How do the canon characters feel meeting someone with this name? What nicknames/ pet names come out of it? Does the OC LIKE their name?
18. Do you have any abandoned WIPs? What made you abandon them?
Boy, I'm glad I'm being asked this now as opposed to two years ago! For the last ten years, I always wanted to come back and finish my stories, and I'm happy to say that I've completed two since I returned to writing in 2021: Principles of Compromise I left hanging for eight years, and Where You're Going (Time Circuits #1) I left hanging for three years.
I still have one I know I want to finish for the National Treasure fandom. I wrote a successful RileyOC story there in high school titled Another Clue, and I burned out halfway through writing the sequel to it titled One More Clue (but I still have all the notes to continue and finish it)! Perhaps now, with the new National Treasure TV show coming out on Disney+, it's a good time to hunker down and finish One More Clue (even though I'm totally going to have to spruce up Another Clue first because I've grown too much as a writer to leave it as-is before posting it to AO3).
I loathe getting so invested in an unfinished story, so I've tried to make it my mission to have the story finished/ an ending decided when I commit to posting a story. I don't want to make people disappointed like that. It's frustrating. So I'm trying to make good on it by finishing all my WIPs now!
Thanks again for the ask! I'm always open to more!! Have a great day!

THE SINGLES # 4 -1958-
Today we review the single As I Love You with Kiss Me Honey Honey Kiss Me on the B-side or Hands Across The Sea. Shirley Bassey liked As I Love You more than Kiss Me Honey Honey Kiss Me. As I Love You Written by Raymond B. Evans / Jay Livingston. Released 1958 on a single. The selling started slow, but a chance appearance as a last minute substitute on “Saturday Night At The London Palladium”…

A Message from Dr. Greenhill?
Evidence suggests that the spirit of UW A former president Noble Franklin Greenhill haunts not only the corridors of Bibb Graves Hall but his former office as well. Here, writer Alan Brown explains why.
"On the evening of April 23, 2005, I conducted a ghost tour of the town of Livingston as part of the Sucarnochee Folk and Heritage Festival. The tour ended on the front steps of Bibb Graves Hall, where I pointed out that the office now occupied by teacher certification officer Nancy Taylor used to be President Greenhill's office.
"That Monday, I received the following e-mail message from Ms. Taylor, who had participated in the tour along with her daughter.
"'I think you got the ghosts stirring in Bibb Graves after the tour Saturday night. When I got in my office this morning, I noticed that some books on the shelf had fallen over-they never done this before-and the book facing up is title Ghost Fox! Coincidence??' One can only wonder."

STUDIO CITY, CA – November 28, 2022 – Torrey DeVitto (“Rip in Time,” “The Rite”) and Zane Holtz (“NCIS,” “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”) star in “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, December 17 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel, as part of the network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming event. Inspired by Troy, New York’s beloved annual tradition, “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” is based on the play The Trial Before Christmas, written by Duncan Crary and Jack Casey.
Madison (DeVitto) is an actress who, despite working for decades, is best known for an an early catch phrase she’d rather forget. Looking to broaden her career, she sees the opportunity to direct a play in Troy, New York as the perfect chance to prove her skills. Part play, part mock trial, the show features two lawyers debating whether “A Visit from Saint Nick” was authored by Clement Clark Moore or Henry Livingston Jr. and has the audience decide as the jury. Madison casts an old costar, Connor (Holtz), who is struggling to balance time for acting and his young daughter, Josie (Morgan Saunders, “Aww Shucks”). Despite feeling a spark with Connor, Madison has a rule to never date an actor. Also joining the show are two of the town’s overzealous Moore and Livingston cosplayers. They are remarkably convincing – when they can be found. Less convincing is Madison’s lead actress, Lena (Sophie Bastelle, “The Clue to Love”), whose sole qualifications seem to be hand modeling and the fact that she’s the producer’s girlfriend. Soon, Madison worries that her first foray into directing will be a flop. Perhaps however, with determination, support from the town and from Connor, Madison just might find a way to make it all work.
“’Twas the Night Before Christmas” is from Muse Entertainment. Jesse Prupas and Jonas Prupas are executive producers. Shane Boucher and Caitlin Delaney are producers. Gary Yates directed from a script by C. Jay Cox & Gary Yates, based on the play The Trial Before Christmas, written by Duncan Crary and Jack Casey.
