This sheep dog is covered in his own blood after fighting off wolves protecting his flock, while the sheep gently comforts him. Regardless of how physically strong or emotionally tough someone is, showing them how much you appreciate their efforts goes a long way. The dog is willing to die for his sheep, and the gesture of the sheep comforting him is all he needs. Never take someone for granted who is willing to fight for you or stand by you in your time of need. Appreciate their efforts and show them that you are grateful!

Meet Mikhail, the Caucasian Shepherd, or as I call him, FLUFFY XL. This friendly looking fella is only four months old, yet he weighs 60 lbs! Caucasian Shepherd‘s are from the Caucasus region of the former Soviet Union. This livestock guardian breed is known to be solitary, steadfast and obviously, very protective. If you don’t have livestock to guard, you have two options: be an informed, good natured, yet unyielding leader, or get a farm with sheep and goats! Without either of those, your Fluffy XL will begin to guard food, your home and everything in it, including you! I’ve seen some cases where livestock guardian breed dogs have guarded children from parents. It’s important, however, that we realize this is not the dog’s fault. This is an instinctive behavior and it is often inadvertently initiated and rewarded by people. Put a Caucasian Shepherd or Great Pyrenees in bed with you or your child and the dog will treat you like a helpless lamb! It will keep you or your child safe at all costs and will not let you leave its side. Until of course, a MORE qualified decision maker arrives. I applaud Mikhail’s owner, @katherine_gracheva, for returning to us after having worked with her other dogs featured here two years ago. Remember, no matter how fluffy your Fluffy may be, dogs need decision making. To a dog, it’s kindness.
