Today is Canada day so I wish my fellow Canadians a happy Canada Day🇨🇦. So July 4 is Independence Day in America. 🍁 The maple leaf forever with the original song of Canada before we have to celebrate dominion day but we are when we got our flag I think in 1967 it’s been since then has been called Canada day. When William and Catherine visited Canada in 2011 they were here on Canada Day and she’s all she’s beautiful in red and she was wearing the Maple 🍁 leaf brooch that a HMTQ loaned to her. It was a gift from Canada. Sad news for the Wigand athletic club it’s been announced that they’ve gone into administration. They have been in the champions club and this closure administration is due to the effects of the coronavirus yet another victim of the coronavirus. The club has been given a 12 point suspension which could remove them from the current leak there in and relegate some to a lower league which should be absolutely disastrous and devastating of course for all the fans never mind the players and all the staff people in their jobs just it’s just devastating. The coronavirus has just weird we haven’t even begin to see The extreme damage which has been done and all the ripple effects of the lockdown the many deaths the illness is the lot real lockdown on the entire effectiveness of just it’s just it’s so massive that my mind at least at this point cannot even grasp.

Now we are back at Windsor Castle. Well tomorrow or in the UK it’s ready today there will be one massive as the paper says pub Mageddon to get a riff on the word Armageddon. Starting at 06:00 the pubs will be open and there will be so many people queued up and waiting to get in. There will be drinking like we have not seen probably since the end of prohibition in the United States it will be on an epic level. There will be so much alcohol consumed because people have not had their locals for so long now. I sure would not want to be anywhere near any any place near where there is the level of rage needing to be let loose.

Yesterday PM Boris Johnson was a really given the charge that they needed to get the economy going and they will start building and refurbishing and adding a lot to London for sure and the Country. Needing to get the economy going after it being stalled for so long and having the Bank of England flood more money into the market, just people need to get back to work.

Brazil is exploding with cases of COVID-19 is anyone else having COVID-19 fatigue like or is it just me? Anyhow they have decided to reopen the many businesses and they have not even hit the peak of their their cases yet. It’s it’s a dire thing for the economy and balancing lockdown and and finances and it’s just an absolute nightmare. One of the newspaper links here is saying that it’s a tragedy that is foretold is it inevitably going to happen and get my chores as things reopen the virus will spread even more. So it’s absolutely disastrous and so sad which is it just makes me so sad that this is happening.

This is a court that also prosecuted Michael Cohen, President Trump‘s I think they called him his fixer anyways he’s in jail now he’s been convicted of all sorts of things he’s in jail prison.

This is the office of which out of which Ghislaine Maxwell will be prosecuted. She was arrested in New Hampshire and she was turned over to the US Sheriffs for transport to taking her to Manhattan to the same jail where Jeffrey Epstein was kept. I certainly hope they have better security and supervision of her other than they did have Jeffrey. From the way the papers are talking it sounds like she’s going to be flipping over and cooperating and giving up all sorts of names and she knows a lot about a lot of people that they would not want known. So I was just looking up the meaning of the word testomonium and it means at the end of a contract or a clause that says in witness there of any person would he say that they were in witness of some incident and they will be signing their name. Subpoena I think we all know what that means that’s a pay for you to get from the prosecutors office or the defence that you need to come in and give testimony. I saw an interview with a Piers Morgan and the other lady on good morning Britain were interviewing John Barrowman. And he was born in Scotland but he’s was moved to the states with his family when his dad got a I think a big factory manager job I think at caterpillar anyways he was talking about the death of the theatre regarding Covid. Now if you’re not English and you’re not aware as fall approaches in winter approaches pantomime or Panto is huge and it’s a big money raiser for theatre and local theatre and They have no idea if it’s going to go on or not he said he is scheduled to be in Bristol in some I forget would play I forget anyway she scheduled to be there but he has no idea if it’s if it’s going to be going on or not and he’s not getting any word from anybody nobody knows anything. But then he he’s also been on the stage is a very well-known stage actor and he has been for years and he went on to talk about the West End in the theatre in the end if if those things don’t resume soon he said the theatre will die he said 75% of it is already gone and if the Panto season doesn’t go ahead that he said could be will be the death of the British theatre. I won’t say that too loud with my sister might hear that and that be devastating for her she likes to go to London to see several plays quite often. It really is quite devastating this whole it’s like I don’t even know it’s the whole world is changed and what we will look like on the other side of this I I just don’t know. Lone Ranger………………

Way back I think in the 1950s there was a show called the lone ranger a hero riding his horse wearing a mask and a side kick Tonto. Well given the fact that title is Native American and with the half way the world is now I’m sure that show will be banned and will never be allowed to be played again. But it’s interesting that Trump is not wanting to wear a mask for a while but you change your mind on that I guess he’s looking for staff and who do you like to joke so silly he says he looks like the Lone Ranger when he wears a mask that’s so funny you know we need to laugh months all of this sadness right so he gave me a laugh anyways I thought that was pretty funny.

Mt, Rushmore …………

Tomorrow’s July 4 in the United States it’s called their lndependence Day and it’s usually filled with fun and barbeques in fireworks and people getting together watching parades and that’s her thing. A lot of places it’s all been cancelled due to the Covid. President Trump and his family will be going to Mount Rushmore and having a celebration there and fireworks. This is somewhat controversial as other places it’s been cancelled but he feels it’s very important that this go on. There has been talk of getting rid of some of the faces on mount Rushmore if you’re not familiar mount Rushmore is a massive Massive not statue but it’s carved into the side of the mountain four presidents I’m going to go from memory here I think it’s Teddy Roosevelt George Washington oh dear I’m not American I think those are two of them and there’s two more I can look it up if you’re interested in. There has been talk with all these statues being pulled down and destroyed there has been talk of some talk about getting rid of the part of Mount Rushmore because somebody doesn’t like the face of one of the presidents I am not sure the logic but that would be one major task to get up there and deface that so I hope they don’t do that. I hope everything goes well tomorrow I hope it’s televised at least people will get to see the fireworks which is so important I remember as a kid we always drove down my parents always drove us down across the border and we would go to different places and watch the fireworks and have hotdogs in and we would enjoy the day even though we were Canadian we would always drive down there and we always had loads of fun it was awesome. I just think it’s so sad somethings so sacred it is destroyed for so many millions of people after all the work over the last couple of hundred years of developing this beautiful country I just think it’s so sad. And I’m sure there will be protests tomorrow and even though all they can’t get together for parades and all this other stuff to celebrate they could certainly will be allowed their first amendment right to protest and possibly would very likely burn the flag we seen that quite often at these protests so anyways from my American friends my heart aches for you it really does I’ve been praying for you and I I just it it’s my heart just aches it really does.

I don’t know, that whole video from start of my couldn’t even watch the whole thing to be honest with you! staff redundancy at HMTQ ……………

Was announced, today is Wednesday it was announced late Monday l think, that there would be layoffs will you it is called redundancies in the UK. These redundancies are to be within within the staff of the royal household. This is very very sad news on top of many other people losing their employment I’m sure it’s in credibly difficult for her Majesty to kind of pick and choose who goes and I’m sure that’s left up to other people but it must be just incredibly heartbreaking to see people of been given is giving their work and service to the crown and I’ll being made redundant my heart really truly breaks for both her Majesty and and those being made redundant!

Again due to this whole Covid thing there does set her Majesty will return to Buckingham palace at all she’ll remain at Windsor and maybe Balmoral. As a result sadly it sounding like 250 staff are going to be made redundant I am in tears reading talking to I’m not typing what I’m tears telling you telling you this. What does means for the royal family going forward I don’t know that’s just complete unknown I think another part of the riddle says that it’s Balmoral but not like we do it and that is the truth.

There’s been talk a couple of weeks now I’ve been hearing and reading bags of it about both George and Charlotte being sent off to boarding school as they are arriving at that age when children historically were sent away. The concern about George is “” sensitive nature at least in the media is is giving his parents pause as to what’s best for him however charlottes outgoing nature according to the media think she would do very well at boarding school. I’m doing believe that we should leave this decision up to William and Catherine they are the ones who are the parents and this is A whole New World. A world with tear a world with pandemic Covid a world with riots in the world just full of security concerns and I truly do not know how in 2020 security could be safely manage for those children studying away from home I’m sure I’m sure the boys and gray could do it I have no doubt I have no doubt at all but I think it would just be so invasive and so pervasive that it would just be so, too much too much. Again that’s my opinion the world has change so much in 2020 I never thought in my short lifetime 53 years that things things would ever go this direction and I was just chatting with a friend that was here she came to visit I had a visitor I had a visitor I’m so happy oh is it so long since I’ve had a visitor is commenting on how glad I am my parents have past and they’re not here to see what’s happening to the world.

The last pandemic that the world so I was a 1918 and that was indeed the Spanish flu that killed millions and millions and millions of people. Are we questioning hear that COVID-19 is going to also result in that? Seems every day on the news there’s a different story or explanation. Yesterday I read Covid has been found in old soil from way back when in parts of Europe…… who’s doing that research? I also read that Covid will be with us forever and that wearing masks will become the new normal. I also think this might be a reference to the fact that your bridges air border air bubbles whatever people from England when they go to Spain and come back they don’t have to quarantine but people from Scotland when they come back they have to self isolate for 14 days so I think there’s a lot of people quite unhappy about that.

Don't Touch Me

His day had been pretty miserable. He had a pop quiz in Spanish that he wasn't entirely sure he passed, he had to keep Harley out of a couple of fights, and on their way home from school...it started raining. Heavily. He and Harley were soaked the first minute they got off the subway and headed to the tower. Except this time there was no cat to rescue. Tibbs would probably think they looked like drowned rats when they got home and Peter wouldn't blame him. He felt like one at the very least and if Harley's grumbling was anything to go by, he did too.

"Think someone will make us hot chocolate?" Harley asks and Peter shrugs.

"If they haven't already."

Once they arrive at the tower and enter, they make their way into the private elevator and Peter once again apologizes to the receptionist for the watery mess they leave behind. He always apologized and she always waved him off with a smile, but he was raised to have manners. If he wasn't polite, he was afraid Ben and May woukd be rolling in their graves and quite possibly come to haunt him. Ever since meeting Stephen and listening to his stories of whatever he encountered, ghosts didn't seem as far fetched as he used to think.

When they reach the penthouse and the elevator doors open, both boys grin when they find Wanda in the kitchen and holding two steaming mugs out in their direction. They throw their backpacks toward the stairs and rush over to each take a mug of hot chocolate in enthusiastic gratitude, and Peter sniffs his suspiciously. Wanda smiles softly at the action.

"No mint. Marshmallows are on the counter." She adds and walks toward the elevator.

"Thanks again Wanda!" Peter says and she waves over her shoulder before disappearing onto the elevator.

He turns toward the bag of marshmallows on the counter and cackles when he finds Harley's cheeks stuffed full like a hamster as he actually adds some marshmallows to his hot chocolate. It was probably only because he couldn't fit anymore into his mouth.

"Hey! I want some too!" Peter gives Harley an unimpressed look when the older teen grabs a single marshmallow and drops it into Peter's mug. "How generous of you."

Harley ignores him to munch happily on the fluffy sugar currently in his mouth and Peter steals a few more from the bag to put in his mug before chugging it down. Seconds after he drains the last few drops, a portal opens up near the living room and Peter sets his empty mug in the sink so he can go greet the sorcerer that steps into the room. Peter doesn't even make it three feet from Stephen though before the man throws out his hand to stop the teens approach.

"DON'T!"

Peter freezes at the tone and even Harley was on alert at the uncharacteristic shout. They both study the doctor curiously and notice him practically curling in on himself, his hands shaking violently, and if Peter listened carefully, Stephen's thundering heartbeat. He even had a wild look in his eyes that looked both pained, tired, and frightened all at the same time and it had both boys worried.

"Mom?" Peter asks carefully and Stephen flinches when he tries to move closer.

"Don't touch me." The man whispers and immediately breaks Peter's heart as Harley asks FRIDAY to get Tony.

Did he do something wrong? His spider senses weren't going off like they had with the evil version of Stephen, so Peter knew that this was the right one, but he was keeping Peter away. The sorcerer just mumbled to himself and flinched away whenever the teen tried to get closer and it hurt. The hurt got even worse when his father showed up and was able to get much closer to Stephen, and only made him wonder if maybe he was the cause of Stephen's...pain. That was what this all looked like at least.

"Honey?" Tony soothes as he slowly reaches out. "What happened baby?"

He stops for a moment when Stephen flinches again but reaches out again until he's gently cupping the other's cheek. Stephen whimpers at the touch and it turns into a sob as he continues to mumble almost incoherently as Tony tries to make out the words. Even Peter was having trouble figuring out what Stephen was saying and he had enhanced senses. Words sounded like 'door room' and 'dorm mom' was all Peter could put together and when he told Tony, his father's eyes widen.

"Stephen? Did Dormammu come back?" Tony ask gently and winces when he gets a single sharp nod as an answer. "Was is just like last time?" Another sharp nod. "Okay. Okay. I'm going to touch you a little bit more so we can get you up to bed alright?"

Peter and Harley watch Tony lead their trembling mother up the stairs to the master bedroom, and Peter climbs the stairs himself minutes after to go up to his own room. Watching Tony be able to touch Stephen with little problem and hardly any protest or repercussions was a bit of a blow for him. It made Peter think that Stephen didn't trust him at all. He knew that was a stupid thought, but the relationship he had with the sorcerer was important to him. Just like his relationship with Tony. They were his parents, and he really wanted to do whatever he could to help them and prevent the possibility of losing them.

From what Tony said downstairs, he lost Stephen several times again and didn't even know it. He and Harley were griping about the rain when Stephen was fighting off a powerful deity by putting it through a time loop again and dying endlessly. Each death more horrendous than the previous one. Deaths he only knew as little detail about as Stephen could possibly give him when he told the family about his first encounter with Dormammu.

"Pete?" Tony raps on the door with his knuckles. "Can I come in?"

"...sure." Peter responds quietly and his bedroom door opens. Tony walks in and closes it behind him before sitting on the bed next to Peter and putting an arm around him to pull him into his side.

"I know what you're thinking. Mom doesn't hate you or anything like that."

"He wouldn't let me touch him."

Tony exhales through his nose. "He's a little touch averse right now and he didn't want to accidently lash out at you. He'd much rather take that risk with me than with you or Harley. If he hurt either of you--"

"He would never forgive himself." Peter finishes softly. "Is he going to be okay?"

Tony stares ahead at the Star Wars poster on the teen's wall. "Eventually. It might take a day or two of TLC on my part, but yes."

"...okay."

Tony pats his back and tells him and Harley to order pizza when they get hungry, and then kisses the top of his head before he leaves Peter's room. Access to the family floor was cut off to everybody who didn't live on it for the rest of the evening so Stephen could rest quietly. It didn't matter that the room was sound proof. The fewer problems they had to deal with, the better. Harley only left the floor once to get the pizza when it arrived, and he and Peter binged watched a tv show while they polished off the pizza. Thankfully Tony went down to get some for himself and Stephen before they dug in, and they went up to bed when they both started to nod off in the middle of one of their episodes.

Peter didn't rest well that night, and he only knew that because when he woke up in the middle of the night, he found himself standing in the middle of the living room. He knew for a fact that he had fallen asleep in bed, so that and finding Harley standing nearby and watching him closely was proof enough that he had been sleepwalking again. It very rarely happened.

"What are you doing down here?" Peter asks and Harley sighs.

"Making sure you didn't hurt yourself. I didn't know you sleep walk. You scared the crap out if me." He admits.

"It uh...only happens when I'm stressed or upset...or both."

Harley nods and picks up Tibbs from one of the couches and hands him to Peter. "Here. Take your cat and go back up to bed. Don't fall on the way up."

That was as nice as Harley was going to get and Peter wasn't about to make fun of him for it right now. Harley could have left him to bump into furniture or hurt himself, but he stayed and watched Peter just so that wouldn't happen. He may act aloof and like he didn't care, but Harley had a big heart. Nothing like Peter's of course, but he was nice in his own way. He cared about his family, and like Peter, would do anything to keep them.

True to Tony's word, Stephen was more amiable to touch and mingle when a couple of days had passed, and the first thing he did was crawl into Peter's bed. All of the stress and anxiety that the teen didn't even realize he was feeling or had went away after he exhaled from a deep inhale. Tea leaves and incense calmed his nerves as well as the slightly trembling fingers that weaved gently through his hair. Tony had tried to spend some time cuddling with Peter over the past couple of days, and it helped a little bit, but there were just some things that only Stephen could do. Everything about his embraces and cuddles were firm but gentle. Tony's were more...secure than soothing.

"I'm sorry for pushing you away." Stephen says quietly into the top of the teen's head. "I imagine what I was feeling was what you feel during a sensory overload times one hundred...if I had to explain it."

"Yikes. Remind me not to complain next time I have a sensory attack." Peter half jokes and Stephen chuckles quietly.

"You're allowed to complain. It may not be as severe as that...or maybe it is...but you experience it more often."

"Are you sure you're okay now?"

"...I'm much better than I was." Stephen admits. "Your father was a big help and incredibly patient."

They lay there quietly for a few minutes, the only sounds Peter heard being Stephen's calmer heartbeat and Tibbs purring at the end of his bed. The calm atmosphere was only temporarily interrupted when Harley came into the room to lay on the bed on Stephen's other side, forcing the eldest of the three to lay on his back so both teens could curl into his sides. The peace lasted for another few minutes as they both enjoyed being able to cuddle Mama Bear again until Harley eventually opened his mouth.

"Mom hog."

Peter grabs a loose pillow and whaps the other teen with it, and Stephen sighs.

"It's a miracle the quiet lasted as long as it did."

A/N: Hey, glad you enjoyed my other stuff! And thanks for the prompt, this was loads of fun. Also uuh... I have no idea where this is set in the Defenders-verse. Like, early Iron Fist season 2 and Daredevil season 3? Don’t know if that lines up in canon, but whatever, it was fun. (also I’m only about halfway through DD s3, no spoilers please!)

He was bleeding, bruised and beginning to get worried when someone dropped from the buildings to join the fray. Matt wasn’t sure where the newcomer had come from, distracted as he was by the gang of criminals putting up more of a fight than he had expected. The newcomer had bounded down from the rooftops, entering the fight with a swift kick to the head of one of Matt’s opponents - downing him instantly.

Matt recognised him immediately, inwardly cursing. Danny Rand. Grateful as he was for the assist, he would have preferred it had been anyone but Rand. The kid was probably the member of the small group of heroes he had found it most difficult to get on with, and beyond that, he didn’t want anyone to know he was alive.

He didn’t let his annoyance show, glad for the darkness of the night and his crude mask, nodding in Rand’s direction. The kid glanced in his direction, giving Matt a look that he assumed was a quick grin. Somehow, that didn’t make his mood any better.

With the extra help, it didn’t take long to regain the upper hand. Despite himself, Matt found himself enjoying fighting alongside someone as competent as he was. He quickly reminded himself he couldn’t get used to this. He was striking out alone now, if anyone else got involved they would only get hurt.

It wasn’t long until the group of men were either out for the count on the ground or had vanished into the night. Rand was slightly out of breath, his adrenalin-fueled heart thumping quickly. But Matt noticed that he seemed more settled - calmer - than when they had last met.

“Thanks for the help,” he said, as though he hadn’t been the one who had leapt into the fight to help Matt. Matt stared in his direction. “I’ve been keeping an eye on them for a while - I’m pretty sure they’re part of a drug run between China Town and Hell’s Kitchen.

Matt nodded, not really wanting to talk in case he was recognised. The kid didn’t seem to care, continuing talking. He liked to talk, Matt noted.

“Honestly I’m surprised they came this far - I thought it was just a China Town thing.” He seemed to consider for a moment, then muttered under his breath in a voice he probably didn’t know Matt could hear, “Wonder how far they spread. Maybe Luke knows something.”

He was about to leave when he heard a sound - a second before Rand, a second too late to do anything. He darted forward, a warning on his lips, but he was too slow - the gun exploded with sound and Rand went down.

Matt leapt over his motionless body, dodging another bullet and slamming a fist into the shooter’s face. Finishing him with a spinning kick, he listened closely for anyone else. The only sound he could hear was Rand’s breathing.

Satisfied Rand would live, he was halfway up the building before he paused. He could still make out Rand’s heartbeat, distant, but loud enough to be worrying. It was stuttering, uneven - blood escaping through the bullet wound.

He hesitated for a long moment, considering what he should do. If he went back, there was a higher chance of being recognised. And knowing Rand, the kid wouldn’t let him just vanish back into obscurity again, he would likely be revealed to the rest of their wannabe Avengers group.

The sirens growing closer decided him - Danny was a vigilante as well, sirens were never a good sign for vigilantes. So, with a curse, Matt dropped back to the road.

Getting Rand a few rooftops away to safety was harder than he had expected - that kid was heavier than he had thought. Eventually, he lowered Rand to the roof of a building a few blocks away from the scene.

Again, Matt felt the urge to vanish into the night. He shouldn’t be here - the longer he stayed the more likely it was that Rand would wake up and recognise him. But he was still bleeding, and Matt could tell he needed help.

This would be the point where he would dump the kid outside Claire’s window and vanish again, confident Rand would survive and no one would know he was still alive. Unfortunately, he didn’t know where she was.

He swore under his breath again, rolling Danny over to get an idea of what the wound was like. It didn’t seem bad - a bandage should suffice. He was rather surprised a single bullet had downed Danny, though Matt suspected he had been running on fumes for a while.

He unwound one of the bandages wrapped around his hand - it was slightly bloody, but that wouldn’t matter - and used it to staunch the blood Rand was losing. He was just finishing it when the younger man shifted, opening his eyes with a groan.

Matt sat back, closely monitoring Danny’s condition as he struggled to a sitting position, hiding his frustration. He shouldn’t be here.

Rand pressed a hand to his side, looking down at the bandage as he crossed his legs in front of him. He noticed Matt with a slight increase in his heartbeat, his breath catching for a second. The heartbeat settled a moment later, but Danny was still wary.

“What happened?” he asked, his head moving in a way that suggested he was looking around. Matt shrugged, his voice low as he answered, hoping Rand wouldn’t recognise him.

“One of ‘em doubled back. Didn’t see him.”

Rand nodded, slowly struggling to his feet. Matt stood as well, hearing the way his breath came quickly, smelling the blood, sweat and adrenalin on him.

“Take the night off,” he said as Rand swayed slightly. Matt could tell he was exhausted - could tell he had been out all night and most of the night before, and probably many other nights before that.

“No, I’m - I’m fine,” he muttered. “Gotta keep going.”

Matt cocked his head to one side, sensing the quaver in his voice. Sirens rang in the distance and he resisted the growing urge to chase after them.

Rand took a step away, stumbled, and Matt darted forward to catch him before he faceplanted into the roof.

“Easy,” he said quietly. Danny groaned, letting out a long breath as Matt stepped back, making sure he stayed upright this time.

“I’m okay,” he muttered, “Just reorientating myself.”

Matt wasn’t convinced, but the kid didn’t seem to have any trouble walking to the edge of the building. He listened, hearing the footsteps and heartbeat of the other man, analysing him for any lasting problems. Satisfied he should survive the trip home, he stepped back, moving towards the other side of the building, following the sirens.

“Go home,” he said softly as he moved.

“Wait,” Rand said, causing Matt to pause. He didn’t turn, hearing Rand face him, step towards him. “Do I know you?”

A barrage of curses flashed through Matt’s mind at the question. This was exactly what he had wanted to avoid. This was why he had wanted to leave in the first place. People couldn’t know he was alive - people couldn’t know Matt Murdock was still around.

“No,” he said stiffly, starting to move again. Danny was disappointed.

“Oh. You just… I guess you remind me of a friend. But he’s…” the kid trailed off, but Matt heard the unfinished ending. “He’s gone. He’s dead. He’s not here anymore.”

“Good,” he thought firmly. He shrugged in response to Danny.

“Sorry to disappointed,” he said sharply, then leapt off the building.

Despite himself, he didn’t go far, only a few buildings away, where he ducked behind the door leading downstairs. There, he listened.

Rand was looking in the direction he had left. Finally, he turned to leave, one hand pressed over his wound, vanishing into the night - in the direction of China Town.

Matt felt a strange urge to go after him. It reminded him of the urge to reveal himself to Karen and Foggy, to tell the world he hadn’t died. It reminded him of smiles and laughter and happiness. Friends.

“Danny called me a friend,” he suddenly realised. He had barely known the kid for a few days, had fought him, betrayed his trust, tied him up. But he had called Matt a friend.

“Hindsight,” Matt told himself. “He’s making our relationship seem more than it was because I’m not around to correct him.”

Satisfied with that answer, he pulled himself away to find the next crime.

But he couldn’t stop thinking about Rand, couldn’t stop thinking about the others in that group. Jessica, Luke. Of Karen and Foggy, grieving for him.

What would life be like if he had allowed himself to be loved?

“It’s too late for that now,” he told himself. That part of him had died in the rubble of Midland Circle. He was the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. That was all he needed to be.

The Devil didn’t have friends.
