I Saw You In My Dream Ep 12 Thoughts

I have been horrendously overstimulated all day, insane things are happening at work (god bless my coworkers fr), and my voice is still iffy (though it’s slowly but surely coming back god bless) so this liveblog will likely be a mess. It will probably be awhile before I liveblog week to week again. I prefer doing this with a binge. ANYWAY. Under the cut:

I have to be really honest with you guys, I enjoyed this show. I liked it a lot. But I am also extremely happy that this is the last episode. I think this show probably should have been 10 episodes instead of 12.

The dreams are hereditary. I never would have guessed. Wait. Can you guys tell when I’m being sarcastic? Does my tone come across in my written words?

Why does every car in the world have squeaky brakes today I don’t understand. Also I bet you guys don’t know I have the world’s lamest superpower related to cars. One cookie for anyone who can guess what it is.

Has this been the OST the entire time? I don’t think this is the OST. I’ve been skipping it but this isn’t right. I dislike when shows do this. Well that’s not true. But it needs to be done well and this wasn’t. This implies either a significant tone shift in the episode from the rest of the show that is disingenuous OR it means that the episode is not going to match the new tone the OST is setting and either way it is a disservice to the show. If they wanted to shift the tone, it should have been properly building up to it since episode 1. And if there isn’t a significant tone shift, the OST should have remained the same. Way to not have faith in your theme song. This is disappointing to me on so many levels. And I want to reiterate again that I really enjoy this show. But now I’m more apprehensive that the finale is going to be a let down. I hope it won’t be.

Ai’s dad just going along with it. Do we know that he knows about the dreams? Does he know? Is he just rolling with it? My man. Love that man actually.

Okay but why did Yu park like that. Boy. Clearly you’re blocking cars. There are empty spaces. Goodness.

Idk. I feel like this could very easily be solved by just like..asking someone that’s walking around if they’ve seen Yu. There are people everywhere and we’re being sneaky about looking for Yu why? Just say you need to talk to him. I do not understand.

Ice has got to be the stupidest villain to ever villain. My guy. My dude. There are so many people and Ai isn’t even the one you want. You’re just gonna be violent in front of so many witnesses.

Now everyone just stand there and watch Ai hang on for dear life. No one try to help. No one get ready to run up to catch him or slip away to maybe go up here to help. No one do anything like that. No one pull out a phone and call the cops. Or call an ambulance to come before it’s even needed.

I am doing my best to understand the variety and severity of the injuries going on here. They all need a sling or a wheelchair or a neck brace? All of them????

Is this a fucking pillow product placement? They didn’t even TRY with this one did they?

Hahahahaha sucks to suck. Kiss when you’re better I guess. (perhaps I’m in a bit of a grumbly and mean mood tonight. I love them but I laugh at their suffering)

Okay it is going way to fast past all of these pictures of Ai. Not enough lingering time and not enough pictures to explain the speed.

There wasn’t enough actual development into Yu finding and achieving his dream for it to be this significant of a presence in the final episode.

At least there’s a reason for this Christmas carol. One of them is off key though.

The fireworks were a bit much.

Okay. So I can go into what I think the show did wrong and clearly I did mention some earlier but instead I want to talk about some of the things I think the show did right: I love how big of a role Ai’s parents had. That was a close knit family through and through and they were loving and supportive even to their adopted family. Speaking of his parents, I want to give a huge shout out to how this show handled their Christianity. I grew up in the church. My dad is a pastor. Two of my grandparents are pastors. And while I am no longer religious, it was a huge part of my childhood and the way Ai’s parents acted towards everyone was fully representative of how I was personally taught we should behave as Christians. Ai’s mom and my mom are very similar actually. Same with Ai’s dad and my dad but I genuinely can’t get into that. I think that was handled very well. I don’t know if it was purposeful or by accident but I loved how that was done.

I loved that once the couples got together, they stayed together. Even when tested, Ai trusted Yu. Even when it was hard, he trusted Yu. Yo and Ing were also very cute (do I have issues with them, yes, but overall they were cute). I ended up really liking Yu’s ex. I don’t feel like the flashbacks earlier in the show worked for me because they made her seem like an entirely different person. But I’m getting into my criticisms and I said I wouldn’t. I’m glad she’s free from Ice and she needs to get her own GL I think. I would watch something with that character as a lead because she is compelling and interesting. Just please god give her a plot that the writers remember to keep up with.

so, Steins;Gate liveblog resuming right now, sadly with my annoying father pestering me about Doctor Strange sitting next to me all the time. I would like to begin this session by revising my theories.

to start off, John Titor being Daru from the future doesn't seem likely anymore. I just got really confused when Suzuha said something about Barrel Titor and I just randomly assumed that they're the same guy. I still think that Barrel is future Daru, I just don't know who John is. my best current guess is Suzuha, but it's really just a guess.

also, I don't think that all the fucky time stuff in ep 12 was just tension building anymore. I think something strange IS happening to time. what exactly... well, we'll see I suppose.

Liveblogging notes for ep. 12. I can't believe there's only two left.

Oh no, Chay, I know you're young but don't be like that.

Porsche is still in house uniform, so I guess he's still part of the security team, just not bodyguarding Kinn?

As I said last time, this eavesdropping thing never ends well. I keep forgetting that this is Porsche's first-ever relationship, which might explain some of his paranoia. Kinn's lots of things and lots of them aren't nice, but he's not gonna cheat on you. (Even if the boys miss him, or at least his wallet.) And it turns out that Kinn has gone off alone to meet with a guy about actual mob business. Kinn arranged for Porsche's uncle to lose all his money to pressure Porsche to take the job way back in episode 1 so they wouldn't lose the house?

This is not particularly surprising to me, but it surprises the hell out of Porsche.

Talking about blood types with your torturer, not on my bingo card sorry. Pete you're gonna get tazed some more aren't you. (There's no way hedgehog is even in the book. Literally no one has a pet hedgehog.)

Porsche is pissed. Why was Korn so intent on hiring Porsche as to go to all this trouble? Kinn still doesn't know, was just following dad's orders. Wants to help so much. They're both upset.

Korn is back to doing pottery, so we're doing all kinds of early-season callbacks now. He already knows what Porsche wants to ask - but first he offers to answer a question he didn't even have, about the car crash? The driver of the other car was a friend of Korn's.

Korn claims to have covered up the crash to help his friend. To have forgotten the matter until Porsche turned up that night Kinn was attacked, then made the connection and tried to make up for what he had done by giving Porsche the job, that he didn't tell the truth because Porsche would not have accepted help.

This is complete nonsense, obviously, and it feels like a diversion. Why did Korn even bring the accident into it?

I think this is the first direct criticism Kinn has ever offered Korn. "Went too far" is putting it mildly, but you have to start somewhere.

Korn was right about one thing; Porsche does not, in fact, accept his help.

Vegas' hedgehog is sick. He leaves the key. Escape attempt #2? Nope, turns out that Pete can't leave the soggiest of wet cats sitting alone on the lawn to ugly cry about his dead pet. This is officially the weirdest pair I have encountered in my journeys through fiction.

Pete looks like he doesn't know what to do with this information. Same, my guy, same. Gun, why would you have a child take care of hedgehogs? They are not even domesticated. Was the point just to get him used to everything he cares for dying? Because that is VERY messed up, I'm kinda impressed actually.

I don't know how the writers are doing this, what alchemy is going on here. I can't say I ship it, but this is compelling af.

HOLY SHIT PETE just fucking GOING for it?! Gonna fall for a monster, don't mess around I guess. Again with the dizzy camera movement, too. Remember when Pete was shy and kinda goofy?! Cause um... whew. No wonder he didn't want to kiss Porsche, boy's way too vanilla for him.

In a neck-snapping change of tone, the Kittisawats are back at home--and Kinn went with them. Good job, stand by your man. Learn to do laundry, god knows you gave the main house staff enough work. We've come a long way since episode 5, but Porsche is worried his rich boyfriend won't adjust well?

Porsche, remember that Kinn was miserable until you came along? That he would literally rather have stayed lost in the forest with you than go home? You can only get through so many days by means of functional alcoholism and rented sex; he'll be fine. And you were right, he is cute when he smiles.

Teh and Time came to visit? Oh my word, suddenly I am Concerned. Domestic shenanigans are ruined by Korn's arrival, with a picture of the other driver from the accident -- and the guy's address. Innnteresting play, Korn, very interesting. You are down to very few pieces now; what's the idea?

So they go to the address, and Porsche has a gun, and Kinn is offering to go with him because your first murder is a very emotional time for anybody I guess and he's willing to step up. (How many times has Kinn been given a photo and an address and a totally unspoken expectation by his father?). However, the guy's granddaughter is right there so... nah, not doing that.

Super-interesting use of mirrors in this bit? Like it's almost stepping the camera back from the sheer intimacy of it while Porsche breaks down crying.

Back to the bar, where it all started, for a fresh start. Porsche is smiling again, so that worked, and their song is playing. I'm a little worried about all the red light in that scene though.

Kim finally shows up at school and finds out that Chay ditched the whole thing, and is perturbed. Yeah, your actions have consequences, idiot. Chay meanwhile has read the manual: He is dying his hair blue and going out with friends to a bar he's too young for. (At least those friends know that Porsche will kill them if he finds out, although they might not realize that should be taken literally.)

Chay you are gonna get SO sick. Kid's already drunk for the first time, now you want to give him drugs? Not to worry, Kim materializes out of nowhere to slap the guy down. You two already broke up, how are you having a breakup fight now?

More food. That's right Kinn, tell him he's pretty. He is.

Deadbeat Uncle shows up out of nowhere? What the hell? Wants to send his regards to Korn and tell Porsche not to trust any of them, give Porsche a photo of his family that HAS KORN IN IT and ask for money?

That's an awesome tattoo but also it sounds like literally every tattoo. apparently this individual messed up their lines, it was supposed to be "howling at THE moon" but he said "It was pretty spectacular. If speeding tickets are on your criminal record then these detectives should get A Lot more "no record except for speeding tickets" rather than "no record"

VG: Silencing the only witnesses to their crime. KB: nods. RC: When Cam found out, he couldn’t live with that. PAUL: He tried to save us both, but they caught him. So he grabbed Benny and ran. Overall Impression: I do like going into shows and movies knowing very little, so every twist was fun for me; none of it blew my mind but I was still surprised nearly every time because I wasn't trying to predict the twists or anything. Im Siwan is just really good at these sorts of roles I guess, his situation, dynamic with the other male lead, and ending had similarities to Strangers From Hell for sure (or I should say it the other way around because this came first). I wish so much of the movie wasn't in such darkness though, I can't fucking see rip. I wasn't that into the bromance aspect but did like how intertwined they were and how willing to trust the other and how that trust got betrayed.

I'm gonna raise my rating to 7.5 because I really liked this show :> and my favourite ep is 3. Overall Impression: I liked the first half with the artifacts and side stories more than the second half where they tried to do too much for a short runtime, not too much budget, and mediocre writing skills. I couldn't make myself care about Khatha or Dome and also it was funny how they kept emphasizing phi-nong with words but so romantic in action. I wish the fantasy and magic and parallel universes and time travel and cult and God and whatever else made more sense together.

Agh, I have barely been watching anything this month.

I think after focusing on less romantic shows the first few months of the year, I’m just craving some regular old familiar cheesy low-stakes BL but I also don’t really wanna start a new show (and Bed Friend seems a little too stressful). Wasn’t sure what I wanted to even rewatch, so I rewatched Gifted S1 via ReactionsWithJavi reactions and on April 16, watched ep 9-11 of Love In The Air SkyPai story. 

Can’t wait for Our Skyy to start so that I can at least have that to fulfill my romance BLs but with familiar characters but also not rewatch a whole show; wanted something new with the familiar and Our Skyy really is made for that.

Overall Impression: continuing on my can’t-watch-anything-new-that-i-have-high-hopes-for. I’ve been kinda craving like a very typical school BL that doesn’t have much going on outside of the ship dynamic and this delivers. Repressed and insane Pete who does stupid shit like get together with Mint again bc he thinks he’s jealous of Kao and then crash Kao and Sun’s dinner is so funny. Also the background music in this is jarring. Pete’s father continues to be great.

Overall Impression: Personally worth watching just to see the plethora of the gendered terms used with Night in drag/pretending to be kathoey (esp with Momey). Also liked the ending with “but who’s gonna direct?” [look into the camera] [screen with Directed by Jojo’s name] This was really fun and kept my attention well. I’ve seen people say that the humour didn’t work for them but it did for me. Also fun to see actors like Nanon, Film, Pond in these roles.

Rewatched SOTUS eps 9-13 and the second half of 15 lol I think I’m just maybe in a typical uni BL mood. rewatching is so fun though, I get to lament that there were so many girls in this engineering friend group and even a lesbian unlike these days where there are 0 to 1 female friends. One of the things that makes me love Pete even harder is how we see the way he struggles with himself to be what he considers a good person. It’s not an effortless thing. I already adore that whole little face journey he goes through when he doubles back and watches Vegas mourn Buddy the Hedgehog, just before he commits to going back to Vegas - this isn’t an easy decision for him, but he does it anyway. But maybe even more, I am fucking fascinated by the way the show allows Pete’s full range of response later, back in the bedroom, when Vegas lays out his whole list of miseries, tries to literally beat himself up, and then says “But you think I deserve it, right?” Because Pete’s FACE. Oh my lord, his face says that, YES. YES, VEGAS ABSOLUTELY DOES. Clearly he thinks Vegas deserves it. I mean, come on. Let’s review Pete’s experience of 5/6ths of Ep 11. I don’t think it’s out of line for Pete to think that Vegas deserves whatever misery he gets. And yet, he’s struggling SO HARD not to say it. Because that’s not what Pete does. That’s not the way he interacts with the world. That’s not the kind of person he wants to see himself as. And so he visibly works his way through all that without actually saying any of it, and he focuses on what he can manage about the situation, and he sidesteps Vegas’s question, because that’s not the point, the issue is that Vegas needs to stop causing damage, to HIMSELF just as much as to others, and you know what? THAT is what we’re going to deal with right now.

I love him, y’all. He’s so human and complex and layered.

And I’m so grateful to the writers and to the directors and to Build, for making him that way.

Last Twilight ภาพนายไม่เคยลืม Ep 9

This episode was a LOT. I found myself thinking "wait, if this is episode nine, what's going to happen in episode 11?!" but then I thought, well, if we compare the structure of Last Twilight to Bad Buddy (which I invariably do because those are the two 12-ep-shows of P'Aof's that I've watched), this is the … hit a snag, get past it, hit a LARGER snag part of the story arc, isn't it. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

so due to my carelessness and nosiness, i know that this episode is when Shit Hits the Fan. i’m liveblogging on twitter and will compile + add on to my reactions of this ep under the cut. rn i’m still in the middle of it, so i’ll keep updating it until the episode is over!

oh boy what a title! surely everything will be just fine, and Yuujin’s glowing red eyes way back in ep 1 is totally innocuous! (just let me stay in denial for a bit longer...)

okay, it’s interesting that Rei didn’t tell Hajime of his suspicions about Yuujin—if he really thinks Yuujin is a threat, having Yuujin play such a vital role in the operation seems dangerous. That said, he has no convincing reason to not let Yuujin take point on the mission (due to his familiarity with the terrain), and at least Yuujin’s partner is someone who he confided to about his suspicions.

It’s also interesting hat Haru does take Rei’s warning seriously, also suspecting Yuujin (though he probably feels guilty about it)—personally i think Yuujin’s behavior at the meteor shower had put Haru on alert, and he wouldn’t have taken Rei’s words so seriously if he hadn’t seen Yuujin break character (as a cool, calm, confident person) in front of him the previous episode.

again, I know the narrative justifies Rei violating Yuujin’s privacy, but without knowing WHY he was suspicious of Yuujin in the first place it just makes me so uncomfortable? with the context of Yuujin being an artificial human, there’s the implication that it’s okay for Rei to indulge in his curiosity and walk all over Yuujin’s personal records, because he’s just a thing—the fact that this behavior is justified by the narrative because Yuujin really is a(n unknowing) traitor, and it’s a good thing that Rei violated those boundaries to gain useful information, makes me really... sad, i guess? Yuujin’s ‘human’ persona doesn’t seem aware of his nature as an android on Leviathan’s side. it’s not hard to realize those subtle alterations are probably Leviathan or his handler manipulating his memories, so that Yuujin’s human persona can continue to function without gaining awareness of what he is.

(i understand my strong reaction is due to my own biases: i really hate mind-manipulation and mind-control in fiction; to me, it’s a serious and unforgivable violation of someone’s autonomy—it makes people into tools, or as a means to an end. It’s dehumanizing and objectifying. The combination of the implication of Yuujin’s memories being manipulated AND Rei’s violation of his privacy—which is validated by the narrative—just makes my hackles rise in a way that’s probably not intended by the creators? idk)

you tell him, Haru! (OW OW OW OW OW)

it’s cool that Haru is clearly angry with Rei in the first pic, but his default reaction is to smile at him and try to explain it in a way that Rei could understand. Haru’s greatest strength is his gentleness/kindness, and it shows. (also? bringing Hajime into the conversation is a masterstroke. Rei will be hard-pressed to make objections now, because Haru was willing to hear him out way back in ep 12, and his bond with Hajime is something he understands on a visceral level.)

Haru’s argument is so effective that Rei doesn’t attempt to stop Yuujin from being part of the team to capture Bootmon—it’s the only reason why he’d allow this to happen, given how suspicious he is of Yuujin before. Regardless of his distrust of Yuujin, Rei has decided to trust Haru’s conviction in his best friend (which is the ‘wrong’ choice in this case), due to his own bond with Hajime.

more talks about the future! it’s increasingly obvious that Yuujin has no thoughts about it, because he’s not designed to exist beyond the fight with Leviathan—Leviathan (and Minerva, given her demand of “laying down his life to save a friend”) clearly meant for Yuujin-the-human to disappear once his function is over.

(also, i just want to say having camera follow their feet during the conversation is so eerie? good use of camera angles to create atmosphere)

...i do admire the show for casting doubts as to whether Yuujin is aware of his non-human nature. Previous behavior indicates he’s unaware, but these last few eps throws that into doubt. My belief at this time is that his Yuujin-the-human persona is genuinely unaware (but is understandably freaked out by the fact that he can’t think of any future plans or things he wants to do), and there’s a ‘master program’ that is able to take control (but is usually dormant when the ‘human’ persona is active).

and then, in a scene that exists purely to TWIST THE KNIFE and MAKE ME CRY LATER, Yuujin reaffirms their bond with each other:

it’s important that Yuujin is the one to initiate this interaction: Haru has always seen Yuujin as the confident friend who’s warm, friendly, popular, and reliable—he’s the guy who has his shit together and helps his friends out. For the most part, Yuujin caters to the image Haru has of him: in the present time he tends to hide his insecurities in front of Haru, choosing to put on a brave face or try to deal with problems alone. The fact that he’s reaffirming their friendship right now, on the heels of their talk about the future, indicates he’s seeking comfort from Haru—in light of his unsettling inability to have concrete plans about the future, he needs reassurance from Haru that he can rely on Haru’s friendship and kindness (which is something he specifically admires about Haru).

there’s also the fact that the writers are trying really hard to make the audience (me) doubt Yuujin’s sincerity/innocence of his involvement with Leviathan, so this scene could arguably be seen as Yuujin trying to manipulate Haru in order to break him further later on.
