It's been ten literal years.

It's about time I finish what I started.

I've been gone so long that I don't even know what Boosh fandom is like anymore. I don't know how active it is, I don't know who all is still hanging around. Really I can only hope that by posting this to AO3, anyone who is subscribed to me will see this update and be happy that the story is finally complete.

This story's incomplete status has haunted me for years. I met my best friend through Boosh fandom in the LiveJournal days (RIP--I have fully lost my login for that site) and since I moved in with her in June of 2019, she has stayed on top of my ass about finally completing this fic.

As you'll all know, I wrote and posted two chapters in 2019 (as well as two one-shots for this universe) with the harassment of my bestie and cheerleading from @cle-o-pat-ra, whom I own an apology to for falling off the face of the planet once the pandemic hit.

I had a real All Eyes On Me moment in 2020. Without getting too much into it, after years of dealing with mental health issues which led to me becoming a shut-in, I moved across country to be with my best friend. I started going out, I started making friends. I started finally living. And then Covid happened and I went off the rails a bit. Quite a bit.

It took some work, but I am doing a lot better now.

So what prompted this return?

Ironically, it was watching GBBO with Bestie over dinner each night. We subscribed to Netflix just to watch it this year. It was seeing Noel--smiley, cheeky, and only just now finally beginning to show any signs of aging--that made my heart clinch.

I found myself wondering what Gabe would be up to at Noel's current age. How Eli is doing.

I realized I missed these characters desperately.

I can only hope you did, too.

Because I have tentative plans for the future...

I'm going to tag the folks I can remember enjoying this fic back when I was more active in the fandom. And I'll be around, in case me showing up like this stirs up any big feelings.

Thank you all for showing so much patience towards me. For loving these characters and playing in this space with me for ten long years. I've missed this world and I've missed you.

Another Howince prompt fill. Sorry. Number 15: “So, I found this waterfall…”

“So, I found this waterfall and first off I was like, oh sweet, I’m well thirsty but then I thought, what would Howard do, because we’ve got a bit of a history, yeah? of drinking stuff we probably shouldn’t, and you’d be well proud of me, Howard. Howard? Howard? Howard? You’d be proud of me Howard cos I didn’t just drink it, Howard. I acted like a proper detective and all and found out it was actually the Waterfall of Youthful Regeneration TM (no affiliation with Fountain of Youth TM) and that you’re supposed to stand under it, not drink it, and I thought ‘Wow! Howard’ll be well chuffed with me for like, reading an actual instruction!’ Only you can’t tell anyone I did, Howard. It’d be the death of my god-of-ultimate-cool persona if anyone knew I’d been going around reading instructions. Howard? Howard, where’d you go?”

Vince looked up at the deserted campsite, the pot still swinging on its frame above the half-hearted fire, and grinned. He’d known Howard would take the bait, even if he’d acted like he wasn’t listening. His ears were fine tuned to hear words like Youthful Regeneration and fast track them to his brain.

The plan had been a stroke of genius, Vince congratulated himself, sauntering back through the bushes to the waterfall, and with any luck Howard would never know he had been played.

He passed the sign that declared the waterfall to be 'The Won and Ownly Waterfall of Yoothfull Regenarashon TM’ and skipped with delight at the sound of someone splashing in the water. He’d had fun making that sign. Just beyond it was a pile of sensible, brown, fabric that he recognised as the zipped down tweed utility suit mark 2 and, a few steps further, the tweed utility swim trunks were lying, also abandoned. The plan was working out even better than Vince had hoped and he pushed past the final layer of foliage to the deep pool of crystal water, the glittering quartz cliff face and the waterfall.

It really did look magical, he thought as he stripped off his own clothes and lay them carefully down away from any mud. And under the spray of the water, bare as a naked mole rat, was Howard, managing to look both ridiculous and sexy and ridiculously sexy. Vince stepped in to the water and walked toward Howard, hips rolling seductively, until he could look up at him dreamily, the water running down over both of them and making him shiver even though it wasn’t really cold.

“Wow, Howard,” he said pressing his hand to Howard’s chest and sliding it up to his shoulder, marvelling at the fact that Howard was actually letting him do it. “You look amazing.”

He didn’t have to act, and Howard, under the impression that he was being rejuvenated, was more confident than usual, his chest swelling at the praise and adoration that Vince was finally letting him see.

“Oh really?” he asking in a voice that very nearly made Vince swoon. “You like what you see, Little Man?”

Vince had thought he would have to make the first move (and really the whole situation had been his move but Vince didn’t count that) but it was Howard who initiated the kiss and Vince began to wonder whether the waterfall really did have magical youth properties because he felt just like the giddy, punch-drunk fifteen-year-old he’d been the day Howard had called him Little Man and invited him to come and work at the zoo.

“Oh, I like, Howard. Oh! Howard! Howard. Howard. Howard!”

Back at the campsite Bollo shook his head in disgust and Naboo made a face. There’d be no living with those two now, he was sure of it.

Hello! I just wanted to say, I'm new to boosh and the fandom and I read your fic about Howard and Vince in the coffee shop and I fell in love so, thank you for writing that. It made me want to write my first ever fic, not sure if it'll be any good though

Just wondering do you have any fic recs of your own? Not sure where to start reading more from thjs fandom :)

I’m super touched that it made you want to write and all I can say is please, please do. Whether for Boosh (we would be so happy to have you) or another fandom creating content is a joyful thing and I hope you take a shot at it. It doesn’t matter if you are good or not, everyone starts somewhere (I used to write really bad, (like seriously embarrassing) harry potter fic way back in 2010) and you can only get better by writing!

Also, if you aren’t already aware, talk to me off anon and I can get you a link to the boosh discord server, everyone is super nice and welcoming and we would love to chat with you :D

As for other fic recs, there is so much good fic in this fandom. In no particular order, off the top of my head (please please forgive me if i have forgot anyone)

@agarlandoffreshlycuttears has superb boosh and neolian fics including Take Care (one of my favorites) and the Re-wired series.

@the-stoned-ranger (I have re-read their in My Dreams You're Dying and Cut Your Bangs more times than I care to count) and their crackwife @bob-skeleton are actual geniuses you should read all their stuff -- the recently put out a super sexy vampire fic as well.

@badbadbucky has the amazing Love Potion No. 9 which is so painful but such a good slow burn and their witch Vince captured my whole heart. (and also some recent, super sweet fluff)

@ladadee195 has the wonderful Hogwarts boosh crossover series and Electro Circus which is an amazing ride. 

Miriam_Heddy wrote Weather in Dalston which I love and reread at least once a month.

@culumacilinte one of our actual, genius fandom elders (and amazing resources if you need something boosh related) has some genius noelian and boosh works that just absolutely kill it on characterizations.

@littleredchucks is def someone you should check out. not only do they write the most amazing Nathan Barley Fic but they also have written the only fic to make me cry actual sobbing tears for not one day, not two days but a whole freaking week. Please read Lives in Abstraction, it was so good, I am so so in awe, still.

And last but certainly not least my own very talented booshwife @queen-boo who not only helped make why not wait possible but also has the wonderful fairytale fic, Keep Making Trouble (which is ruining me) and Show Me What I can't See which I left a screaming comment on at 2am.

An I particular love @agarlandoffreshlycuttears prose. Everyone is an inspiration! 6.What element of writing do you find comes easily? I’d have to say dialogue. Its always the easiest thing to get right and to write! I have a mind for voices and accents so writing it is easy in my opinion.  12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about. WELL, I’ve been saving and editing an RP me and @thatpointywitch have been doing since before Christmas. 6. What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?

In terms of fanfiction a lot of it makes me laugh tbh. All the boosh fandom are a pretty funny bunch! Honestly most things I read are so full of humour and wit that it may as well be straight out of the show! (you're all so good guys) but the last couple of things that made me really belly laugh as I read them:

Boosh De Noel - Terrantalen

Honestly everything they've written is perfect but this fic in particular has some A+ banter that never fails to make me giggle (and a good dose of BAMF Vince which I love!)

Married On The Morrow - @littlebooshmaid

Fake Dating (yes please) and all the shenanigans to go with it. Vince wants to beat Lance Dior using a relationship, absolutely. There's a line I remember where Vince, in reference to Howard's bits, says 'I heard this is just eight pairs of socks stuffed into your pants' and I howled. True Story.

7. What’s the last thing you read that made you cry?

I've been rereading a LOT of my favourite fics while in lockdown and my goodness, even after multiple reads some of them still make me sob.

If you're a Nathan Barley fan/Dan x Jones shipper. Read this. Seriously. It's a fascinating, heartfelt, beautifully angsty look into the relationship between the two both post and pre series. And it's incredible. The characters are so well written that when the angst comes at you it hits you hard and I'm a sucker for angst I love it. Brilliant.

Lost and Found - @agarlandoffreshlycuttears

No word of a lie I've read this about 6 times. Every time cried. The concept itself is heartbreaking, accidentally wishing Howard away, but the journey Vince goes on to get him back. That mixed with the other Vince's and Howard's (And Dan's and Pete's) that he meets along the way? Tears everywhere. Vinces emotional journey is one I like to go with him on time and time again.

17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.

So it's a Crossover piece - Boosh meets Nathan Barely (I love Crossovers idk why?) and its based around the concept of the Prince and the Pauper. So far I've not got passed the basic outline of the doppelgangers meeting one another and deciding to perhaps swap places and some roughly sketched out scenes and dialogue ideas. But it's something I'm SUPER excited to write. I'm not even sure if people would read it? Im personally just very find of the idea so I'll write it regardless and then see what happens!

Fic reading kind of just goes by what I’m feeling at any moment.

But! I can say that I am a slut for anything RedChucks (@littleredchucks) writes and often revisit their work. And also, shoutout to my home squeeze Kezza (@toothscratch, @wombat-knight) and his fic Alone Together, whose chapter I still need to fucking finish editing. Sorry baby boy!

The 7th Anniversary of Raise Hell happens on the 20th of this month.

That is...insane to me. When I look back on writing this fic, my memory is jumbled and makes it seem like I wrote chapters 0-19 over the course of a few months. A year at most.

Crazy.

At any rate, does anyone want to do something to commemorate on/around the 20th? Like, I could answer any/all questions you have about the story/characters/process of writing it, I could fill prompts for mini fics, like...I dunno. Any ideas? Any takers?

For the fic writer questions: I, S, T, U!

I. Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing?): ahhhhh oh god, that’s tough you know because how much information is too much information?? Also what could I possibly say that constitutes as guilty pleasure? I guess anything with characters being animals? I’ve gotten used to anthro’s and  furries that I wouldn’t mind that.  S. Any Fandom tropes you can’t resist?: Geee! gosh. Hurt/Comfort, Mutual pinning is a big one. Size difference!? this is all shipping stuff LOL  T. Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?: dark fics, to much violence, When people go out of their way to hurt characters to much? like once is enough, don’t keep doing it. And suicides, that also rubs me the wrong way cause I feel like its an easy out for drama. U. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much: pffft I’m gonna make this real easy, here we go *cracks knuckles* I love @littleredchucks because everything they write is basically perfect?? They way they write narrative is just ....*kisses fingers* muah!  I also love @agarlandoffreshlycuttears  stuff simple because they were the first author I read for the Boosh so you know their fics hold a special place in my heart. I can read their fics multiple times and never get bored. plus they way descriptions and feelings are written is just spot on and I can FEEL it!!!  and I gotta shout out to @littlebooshmaid  cause they were the first author to comment on my fics and really give me a sense of encouragement and plus their fics are funny, and well thought out, and bring light to the fandom.  yo this was fun!!!

“If you keep looking at me in such a fashion we shan’t make it to a bed.”Howard blinked and tried to hide the grin that was spreading across his face by bringing his hand to his top lip, smoothing out the already perfectly combed moustache as he attempted, valiantly, to maintain some level of decorum. Vince seemed to have no such qualms as he had been the one to sidle up beside his partner to whisper such a thing in his ear, his voice breathy and deep and too seductive for the polite society they currently found themselves in.“I am sure I have absolutely no idea what you mean,” Howard replied huskily, his own voice affected by the sensuousness of the other’s. “Oh, truly?” Vince asked him, moving from his side to stand before him, the very image of the fashionable town gentleman in his tailored cream trousers, gold waistcoat and green coat. He stood just so as to block Howard’s face from the room at large and any who might chance to turn in their direction and Howard was grateful for it, for the man was a tease and had been in the most infuriating (and flirtatious) mood all evening. It had all been causing Howard some discomfort, to see the man he loved so dearly dancing with every young lady at the assembly and showing off his fine form in such a fetching way. Surely a man could not be blamed for having thoughts. And, besides that, Vince was his one and only, was he not? His lifelong companion and bed fellow? He was within his rights to appreciate the man’s beauty and grace as he danced, he was sure. But in any case, he reminded himself, he most certainly had not been staring in a way that would justify Vince’s forward remark, he was sure of it.“You are doing it again,” Vince whispered to him. “You are gazing upon my person as if you would eat me whole, fine clothes and all. Mr Darcy.”Howard had been about to respond that he certainly had not, in a light and civil tone, but his name, spoken in such a way, by such lips, disrupted the very function of his brain and he knew that he was indeed (now at least) gazing at Vince in just the way he had been accused of. “My most sincere apologies,” he said, raising his voice to a level that might be comfortably overheard. “But I fear I have partaken too freely of the wine. My dear Mr Bennet. Would you be so kind as to give me your assistance on the journey home. I feel you are quite correct. I shan’t make it to my bed without you, in the state I am in now.”It was Vince’s turn to blush now, his cheeks turning a pretty shade of pink as he fought to keep his smile from escaping his pursed lips. Several of the young ladies overheard and expressed how miserable it would be for the party to lose Vince when the hour was still relatively early but Vince assured them all that they could go along quite marvellously without him, kissing hands and charming them as he led Howard from the assembly and out to their waiting carriage. Once within the privacy of the carriage however, the measured calm vanished and he climbed in to Howard’s waiting lap, straddling his legs and pressing the man’s head back against the seat as he kissed them with such passion that Howard’s head began to spin. “You are such a thoroughly, delightfully, wicked man,” he moaned as Howard grasped his thighs and began to move against him. “Me?” Howard breathed between kisses, smiling in to the other man’s mouth as their carriage moved so inconspicuously through the London streets. “I am not the one who danced so prettily it was impossible not to imagine him doing so sans clothes.”Vince groaned in to his mouth at such words and kissed him until he was absolute forced, by the need of his burning lungs, to stop for a moment to draw breath.“Oh my dear Mr Darcy,” he purred. “We are definitely not going to make it to a bed.”
