It's been ten literal years.

It's about time I finish what I started.

I've been gone so long that I don't even know what Boosh fandom is like anymore. I don't know how active it is, I don't know who all is still hanging around. Really I can only hope that by posting this to AO3, anyone who is subscribed to me will see this update and be happy that the story is finally complete.

This story's incomplete status has haunted me for years. I met my best friend through Boosh fandom in the LiveJournal days (RIP--I have fully lost my login for that site) and since I moved in with her in June of 2019, she has stayed on top of my ass about finally completing this fic.

As you'll all know, I wrote and posted two chapters in 2019 (as well as two one-shots for this universe) with the harassment of my bestie and cheerleading from @cle-o-pat-ra, whom I own an apology to for falling off the face of the planet once the pandemic hit.

I had a real All Eyes On Me moment in 2020. Without getting too much into it, after years of dealing with mental health issues which led to me becoming a shut-in, I moved across country to be with my best friend. I started going out, I started making friends. I started finally living. And then Covid happened and I went off the rails a bit. Quite a bit.

It took some work, but I am doing a lot better now.

So what prompted this return?

Ironically, it was watching GBBO with Bestie over dinner each night. We subscribed to Netflix just to watch it this year. It was seeing Noel--smiley, cheeky, and only just now finally beginning to show any signs of aging--that made my heart clinch.

I found myself wondering what Gabe would be up to at Noel's current age. How Eli is doing.

I realized I missed these characters desperately.

I can only hope you did, too.

Because I have tentative plans for the future...

I'm going to tag the folks I can remember enjoying this fic back when I was more active in the fandom. And I'll be around, in case me showing up like this stirs up any big feelings.

Thank you all for showing so much patience towards me. For loving these characters and playing in this space with me for ten long years. I've missed this world and I've missed you.

CALLING ALL OG RAISE HELL FANS

As you may or may not know, I am currently doing my first pass edit on Raise Hell before doing a re-write and further edits (polishing it up before going the self publishing route).

There is a major change I've been thinking about making to the narrative, and I'd like the opinions of those of you who have been enjoying this story for years.

It's something that doesn't really change the plot structure, but does switch up the character development in a pretty fundamental way, which is why I'm so on the fence about it. I'd appreciate having comity of people who care as much about these characters as I do to discuss this with.

Hey guys we still doing six sentence Sundays around here? because I wanted to share a small bit from something I’ve been working on.  @littleredchucks pitched the idea a while ago and I loved it. 

Vince liked Naboo. He was smart but never made Vince feel stupid. He knew all sorts of cool secrets and had loads of neat gadgets and spells. Vince knew what he was about and he liked it. Howard was still wary of what he called bad juju but Vince suspected that Howard was jealous of Vince’s continued amazement with the shaman. That or he was just upset that Naboo routinely called him a ballbag.

“Sorry, only I’ve got this issue and I need to talk to you about it?” he asked, trying to disguise how nervous he was. He hadn’t freaked out at home but he suddenly felt like bursting into tears. Which was the most uncool thing he could think of so he held them back and clutched at his arms instead, digging his nails into his skin hard. He wasn’t used to feeling like this and he didn’t like it. And even when he did get close usually Howard would comfort him. Make him tea and give him cakes, but Howard couldn’t help him with this.  

Naboo regarded him with a critical eye, frowned, and then his eyes went sort of glassy. Like he wasn’t exactly focusing on Vince himself but rather looking through him. It was uncomfortable and Vince hugged himself tighter. “What?” he asked softly.

“I think you’d better come inside.” Naboo replied as the door to the right swung open on its own.

Vince smiled, “Cheers.

6. What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?

In terms of fanfiction a lot of it makes me laugh tbh. All the boosh fandom are a pretty funny bunch! Honestly most things I read are so full of humour and wit that it may as well be straight out of the show! (you're all so good guys) but the last couple of things that made me really belly laugh as I read them:

Boosh De Noel - Terrantalen

Honestly everything they've written is perfect but this fic in particular has some A+ banter that never fails to make me giggle (and a good dose of BAMF Vince which I love!)

Married On The Morrow - @littlebooshmaid

Fake Dating (yes please) and all the shenanigans to go with it. Vince wants to beat Lance Dior using a relationship, absolutely. There's a line I remember where Vince, in reference to Howard's bits, says 'I heard this is just eight pairs of socks stuffed into your pants' and I howled. True Story.

7. What’s the last thing you read that made you cry?

I've been rereading a LOT of my favourite fics while in lockdown and my goodness, even after multiple reads some of them still make me sob.

If you're a Nathan Barley fan/Dan x Jones shipper. Read this. Seriously. It's a fascinating, heartfelt, beautifully angsty look into the relationship between the two both post and pre series. And it's incredible. The characters are so well written that when the angst comes at you it hits you hard and I'm a sucker for angst I love it. Brilliant.

Lost and Found - @agarlandoffreshlycuttears

No word of a lie I've read this about 6 times. Every time cried. The concept itself is heartbreaking, accidentally wishing Howard away, but the journey Vince goes on to get him back. That mixed with the other Vince's and Howard's (And Dan's and Pete's) that he meets along the way? Tears everywhere. Vinces emotional journey is one I like to go with him on time and time again.

17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.

So it's a Crossover piece - Boosh meets Nathan Barely (I love Crossovers idk why?) and its based around the concept of the Prince and the Pauper. So far I've not got passed the basic outline of the doppelgangers meeting one another and deciding to perhaps swap places and some roughly sketched out scenes and dialogue ideas. But it's something I'm SUPER excited to write. I'm not even sure if people would read it? Im personally just very find of the idea so I'll write it regardless and then see what happens!
