Advice for Remy, Day 6. Walk. Every day. It might seem a little obvious to say 'walk' - it's not likely you're going to go too long without walking anywhere is it? Well, you'd be suprised. As someone who has spent the past 12 years sitting behind a desk for most of the working day it's suprising just how long you can go without moving at all, without even realising it. The time passes in a flash when you're deep into your work and staring at a computer screen, and before you know it, you realise it's been 2 hours since you last even stood up. This is such a great way to put on weight, become lethargic and generally make yourself feel pretty crap. Something as simple as forcing yourself to walk around for as little as 5 minutes every hour can make a huge difference (or get a FitBit to badger you into doing it instead). Yes, there are big health benefits in the big exercise-intensive activities like going to the gym, running etc, but doing little amounts of exercise (such as simply walking around) each day will be a huge step towards making sure you stay in shape. And staying in shape would be something I urge you to do - take my word from it as someone who hasn't. It's so dangerously easy to get out of shape without even realising it, and yet it can be one of the hardest things in the world to get back into shape again. As someone who's been trying for most of the past 20+ years I can certainly attest to this. So make sure you walk. Walk to work, walk the dog, walk to the shops instead of driving - just a little walking each day will drive away your stress, make you feel invigorated and prevent you going stale. As far as I'm concerned it's the simplest and most underrated way to improve your physical and mental wellbeing, and I certainly wish I'd done more of it more regularly during my adult life.
