Happy 35th Anniversary to the film, and the mermaid, that impacted the entire course of my life.

Ever since I could talk, I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid, and especially Ariel. She was quite literally everything I wanted to be and more.

Often times, when discussing the popularity of Frozen and the way children would listen to ‘Let It Go’ on repeat, my mum has been caught saying ‘Part of that World was our Let It Go’.

There was so much I could relate to in Ariel as a character: from holding such an immense passion and yearn for knowledge about something that interests you, beyond any other interest, to the experience of feeling like a literal fish out of water. I was made to feel voiceless and had to navigate a world I never quite understood.

While far from the same story, I always found comfort in Ariel in someone I could relate to. Her curiosity, her yearn for adventure, her absolute love of her interest and immense collection of trinkets, her playful spirit and her love of music.

Growing up, I wanted to be her.

It’s amazing to think that today: I made that happen.

Today I am a professional mermaid, and a party princess- and I have gotten to play Ariel on multiple occasions.

I remember when the new film was released last year, and I had the honour of playing Ariel at the cinema, where I met so many children who were like me, dressed in their Ariel shirts and showing me their Ariel dolls, the delight towards meeting their favourite character.

The children at Ariel birthday parties are some of the ones I feel the most connected with, because I know that when I was their age, I would have reacted the exact same way. It’s like looking in a mirror to my past self.

(Even my newest tail in my mermaiding career is one inspired by the live action film!)

It is incredible to see how timeless this fiery haired mermaid is, and how after 35 years, her story and legacy remain strong, continuing to inspire generations of dreamers.

Thank you, Ariel, for making me who I am today, for inspiring me to live my dreams and to keep pushing when all seems impossible.

Happy 35th anniversary, little fishy.

This was my very first cosplay EVER after literally 24 years of wanting to, but not doing it because I was afraid to be mocked due to my weight. But not only people were incredibly nice to me at Comic Con? I had a BLAST! Can't wait for next year, and am already planning what to wear!

My only regret?? Not finding a karaoke place to try and BELT "Poor Unfortunate Souls"! :D

My roommates just got back from a con in Philadelphia! Callie has always adored The Little Mermaid, and she got the chance to meet Jodi Benson, voice of the animated Ariel! @spark-of-jenius made her an entire costume. She got the sewing pattern, started putting it together, and realized that the pattern was sized wrong and the waist size was TWENTY INCHES off what it was supposed to be! But she’s such a good costumer that she managed to remake the pattern to make it all work and look amazing.

The Mermaid Princess (CC List)

I was super excited for the new live action 'The Little Mermaid', and I decided to make some cc inspired by it when I couldn't find much out there (especially for base game - the mermaid outfit is a dress, no Island Living needed). I started on most of these before seeing the film, but I tried to make adjustments after watching it.

This is the first time that I've made cc for The Sims 4, so I did the best I could with recoloring existing meshes (a HUGE thanks to those creators!). I made a few cc items way back when for The Sims 2 or 3, but it's been a while. I really enjoyed the process, so hopefully you'll see more creations from me in the future!

The meshes for the recolors are linked below, and the recolor files are attached on Patreon for free (no subscription needed). You'll need both the mesh and recolor for them to work.
