Ok before I say anything, this is nothing against anyone who ships something different (within reason.) you can do whatever you want

But why does so much of the dc community hate Jade Nguyen/Cheshire?? To me a lot of it feels similar to the way people treat Talia Al Ghul

Because I want to make one thing about the both of them incredibly clear, they are not bad mothers. They had to make the impossible decision of distancing themselves from their children to keep them safe, and they did it because they love their children. And at the same time, them not being able to be around their children doesn’t mean that they aren’t mothers??

The amount of people I’ve seen who say that Jade doesn’t count as Lian’s parent or that Talia isn’t Damian’s mom anymore is fucking insane???

In the current cannon Lian is about 14-16, was she resentful of her mom when she first saw her again? Yes. Does she still love her mom? YES. She loved and missed both of her parents. And even when she was 7 years old (or younger!) she still knew who Jade was, she knew who her mom was and actively missed her.

Not to mention Jade and Roy’s relationship was so integral to both of their storylines and still is, i understand not shipping cannon I totally get it, but treating Jade like she’s getting in the way of two male characters being in a relationship isn’t okay, she is the mother of his child. Do they have an easy relationship? Absolutely fucking not, but look at nearly every dc couple.

The point of this is: stop ignoring or treating female characters like shit because they don’t fit neatly into the ship you like, and stop demonize every fucking imperfect mother in dc, because I know you guys don’t do the same to people like Oliver queen, yk the person who literally kicked his teenage son out? Or called Connor a bastard when he found out that he was his son? Or any of the countless other shitty fathers who don’t get treated anywhere near as bad as a mother would.

She comes into your room only after the others have fallen asleep. She’s holding Clive, anxiously playing with his paws as she looks down at the floor. She’s clearly uncomfortable. She hates this more than anything.

You were expecting her tonight. You told her to come after all. You greet her with a warm smile and beckoned her over to the bed. This isn’t the first time she’s come to feed off of you, but you’re still trying to figure out the best ways to make her feel less guilty and more comfortable.

She sits wordlessly on the edge of the bed, handing you her beloved bear. You asked once why she brings him to you. She shrugged. “He makes me feel better.” You wrap your right arm tightly around the bear.

“May I?” She asks, holding your left wrist to her lips. You smile and nod. She kisses it softly first, then gently sinks her teeth in.

You do your best to maintain a straight face, but the sting elicits a small grimace. Karlach’s eyes light up with fear.

“It’s okay, love” you reassure her. She closes her eyes and exhales before slowly draining your arm. You idly play with her hair with your right hand. She prefers this part be as silent and quick as possible.

She lifts her head only a moment later, allowing you to wipe away your blood from the corners of her mouth. You caress her cheek gently. “Are you sure that was enough?”

“Plenty. Thank you.” She whispers, grabbing a bandage you left prepared on the bedside table. Despite her terrible guilt, she can’t help the smile that creeps onto her face. She feels invigorated.

She wraps the bandage around your wrist, making sure it’s not too tight or too loose. She’ll be coddling you the rest of the night, making sure you’ve got more water and snacks than you could ever need. God forbid you try to stand up on your own. She’ll be carrying you anywhere you need to go until the rest of the crew gets up tomorrow morning. If you play your cards right, however, she might still agree to let you be big spoon.

My thoughts on A.I and specifically A.I art:

Since the genuine start of human conception we’ve created things, whether it be tools, art, whichever, we’ve created things. You can say that A.I is no different, that it’s just the next step in human creation; but the fundamental difference between creating A.I and everything that was made before it is the motive behind it.

When you create a piece of art or you write a book the point isn’t to instantly have whatever you wanted to create. People spend years on a painting, they learn how to make each individual stroke look exactly how they want it to. They spend years of their life learning and creating to be able to put something into the world.

Now imagine you just did that, you just spent years learning how to paint so you can make your art, and a company without your permission feeds it to their A.I. And years of your life are gone now, because what’s the point in making art if a robot can replicate it in seconds. But in just that idea therein lies the problem. It’s replication, not creation.

A.I needs to be fed these art pieces to create your prompt, something that couldn’t be done without someone dedicating their life to it first. Does it take time? Yes. But just the fact that it takes time is what makes it meaningful. Because you get to look at your years of work and see the finished product, something you truly love, and understand that even with each setback, you did that.

You made that art. You’ve done what hundreds upon thousands of other people have done before you, you created something. And A.I will never be able to understand that feeling, it will never be able to have a sense of accomplishment when looking at its actions.

And maybe all of that’s not enough for you so let’s look at it from a different angle, music. We’ve been making music for thousands of decades, every person I know has a favorite song, or album, singer, band, what have you. Humans create music because you should feel something from it.

Wether it’s a song you like that just makes you excited, something you listen to when you’re sad, something that makes you feel anything. That’s why we make music. An A.I will never be able to understand those feelings, it will never understand how to create something with a genuine human emotion behind it because it’s not human.

And it’s such a scary thought that not everyone can understand that, that they don’t understand why we need artists. Art is a fundamental part of humanity. It makes up who we are. So hearing that some people think a soulless A.I drawing is the next step of evolution is a revolting thought.
