the idea came to me in a migraine induced dream but now im obsessed with the concept of a mu qingfang who knew the abuse bunhe was going through at the hands of og!shen qingqiu/shen jiu and did his best to treat the kid whenever he could (and bring his concerns to zhangmen shixiong, which were obviously very much ignored) and his constant worry over the situation means that when the qi deviation happens he is suspicious of shen qingqiu’s changes for all different reasons and very much protective of luo binghe -who is a sweet child and an earnest disciple who seems to always find the most incredible medicinal herbs to bring to his mu shishu as thanks for the care bestowed upon him- which means that when the whole shen qingqiu dying thing happens instead of bad mouthing luo binghe or fighting him at every chance he does his best to come over and keep an eye on things to try and help him and make sure luo binghe won’t kill himself trying to bring shen qingqiu back because he remembers that earnest kid and he’s witnessed luo binghe’s devotion to this shen qingqiu first hand and knows there is no way that the kid who cried when ning yingying found a bird with a broken wing and begged mu qingfang to fix it and the kid that would always borrow medical texts and try to find new herb combinations as if it was a game between him and qian cao disciples is actually doing anything nefarious to shen qingqiu’s corpse.
anyways in this essay i will-

ONCE AGAIN REMINDING YALL THAT DOM AND SUB ARE NOT SYNONYMS FOR TOP AND BOTTOM
TOP/BOTTOM ARE POSITIONS AND JUST DESCRIBE WHO GETS PENETRATED/DOES THE PENETRATING
DOM/SUB ARE TERMS INHERENTLY ASSOCIATED WITH KINK. IF YOU ARE A SUB OR DOM YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN KINK AND YOU CAN ACTUALLY BE A SUBMISSIVE TOP OR A DOMINANT BOTTOM
STOP CALLING CHARACTERS DOMS AND SUBS WHEN YOU REALLY MEAN TOP AND BOTTOM

feel like a broken record sometimes about this, but...
i am not nostalgic for many things, but i am sad that breakcore and associated genres have become quite defanged. there's a level of irreverent edginess that can sometimes veer too far for my sensibilities (where do "ironic" sentiments become legitimate and so on) but feels really formative to the genre and its sound.
i sometimes feel like trying to recapture that energy is just trying to resurrect a long-dead corpse. that type of music was already here and gone by the time i was a teenager and discovered it for the first time, but i also don't feel satisfied with the present outlets available to me
when i expressed this to my roommate though they did note that it seems the tides are shifting again on a lot of the... uptight, paranoid approaches to art that i think coincided with the reining-in of the scene. crass flirtations aren't strictly relegated to, like, channers any more. so perhaps something new will be born from it all

I remember back when The Mountain Goats No Children was a meme on here seeing a post that went “I hope you live, i hope we both live,” and it making me SO angry…
And this was before I had ever even listened to the song (or anything by TMG for that matter), but now, knowing that John wrote the song, and specifically the line “I hope you die, I hope we both die” in response to radio overplay of the sugary sweet I Hope You Dance, I feel even more vindicated, because like.
Yes. Ultimately my overall life philosophy is that I hope we all live… I would hope that goes without saying. But No Children isn’t a life philosophy. It’s about how sometimes everything sucks and you feel like shit and trapped and hopeless and angry and I HOPE YOU DIE, I HOPE WE BOTH DIE!!!!!!!!! And who can’t relate to that? Who has NEVER felt like that in their lives??????
I feel a little silly accusing what was ultimately just a joke meme post of Toxic Positivity, but that was the vibe I was getting from it, which is why it made me mad. As though it was sticking up its nose at a song it clearly had no understanding of and going “well I hope we both LIVE 😇😇” and like. Fuck you lol. It’s okay to feel negative emotions. It’s okay to be angry.

something that is so compelling to me about ta/ivan is that...they actually aren't compatible. they are not good for each other. and like, they could probably both use some of what the other gives, but they aren't able to do that because of the circumstances. tai needs van's humor and their more easy going nature. and van sometimes needs tai's no-nonsense and straight to the point, practical thought patterns + the belief that something Can be done ( though they are entirely capable of being pragmatic and addressing the situation with that, it differs from the way tai does).
but they fundamentally have different mechanisms of coping, processing, managing conflict, etc. and these things are irreconcilable. and eventually, they would have realized that these things were true and gone their separate ways because they just could not sustain a relationship when their worldviews were so different and the conflict led to losses in autonomy on both ends. but because of the wilderness, their relationship is not just that but a means of survival.
their relationship becomes so entrenched in survival and love and peace and care that they are unable to move on from each other until they are outside of that circumstance (or at least are able to convince themselves that they are no longer in that state of survival). instead, they cling harder. instead of adapting or addressing these fundamental differences at their core, they just keep going.
