Not only did Swim England force Anne Isabella Coombes to compete against men (after previously allowing her to compete against women), they tried to say she must swim in a “female” swimsuit. This would out her as a (trans) woman competing against men and polices her feminine body while misgendering her as a man. She bravely pointed out their hypocrisy by choosing to swim in a men’s swimsuit, exposing her breasts in a silent protest of these transmisogynistic regulations.

“Deciding on whether exposing my breasts is in 'good moral taste' or whether I need to cover them up so that 'those involved in competitive swimming are appropriately safeguarded' is an entirely subjective decision of the referee," [Coombes] said.
