yesterday I got a bit sad and decided to draw something cute for myself ❤️

I might have to put P-body down, unfortunately. They've had a mantle tear, been sluggish (excuse the pun), and insist on hanging from the ceiling, which only makes the problem worse, as their shell hangs and tears away more from the body.

They warned me that Lissachatina fulica are very inbred, so I suppose it was inevitable for problems to rise. Atlas seems to be doing well, fortunately. P-body has always been weaker, and smaller.

For now, I'll try to move them to a smaller box, where their shell can rest on the ground when hanging, and hope for the best. If it worsens, I will go through with the euthanasia. :(

Here, have a photo of my two Giant African Snails, Lissachatina fulica, Atlas and P-body. You literally could not have accidentally tagged a more fitting person in this.

I don't know how this overlook happened but here's a really old digital snail doodle I made for an art trade with @cawareyoudoin and posted to dA but never here!

This is how big the "snabies" are now, by the way.

That bucket is about a foot diameter. They look huge when you take them out of their terrarium!

(I took them out because Rosie keeps burying herself and I wanted to really thoroughly check there weren't any eggs hidden in the soil. There weren't, but I'm still side-eyeing her lol.)

He fell from the branch last night and decided to not care and use the opportunity to snack on some cucumber from his spa day

Also, Diablo's spa day. He had some dirt trapped in the growth edge of his shell, and I want him to have a beautiful healthy shell so a toothbrush meant for babies is soft enough to not accidentally damage the growth edge

There are three species commonly known as giant African land snails -- Lissachatina fulica, Achatina achatina, and Archachatina marginata. Although some popular photos of them online make them appear even larger than life, their title of "giant" is well-earned. All three regularly reach 7-8 inches in length, and larger specimens have been documented.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day

For the giant African snail, size really does matter! When two snails decide to mate, the larger (typically older) snail takes on the role of female and accepts sperm from the smaller snail. If both snails are the same size, they will both exchange sperm. Each one may immediately go on to fertilize their eggs, or store the sperm for up to two years!

I know this is a bit out of your wheelhouse, but what are your thoughts on African Giant Land Snails?

Honestly, I just kinda love how Huge they can get.

wild Lissachatina fulica are actually pretty underwhelming, although they’re still the biggest land snails I’ve ever seen. Archachatina or very old captive fulica are massive by comparison, I’d love to meet one of those.
