the one big canon divergence in the XVI/XIV crossover questline in Liscanon

Whenever I want to laugh, I think about the very specific big canon-divergence in the XVI/XIV quest in Liscanon.

Instead of taking Clive on an airship, Lis called up Noctis on the tomestone and asked him to bring around the Regalia because they were going on a road trip with "a new friend".

Noctis pulled up in the Regalia with Ysayle and Prompto, with Lis choosing to sit in Clive's lap. The whole car trip was nothing short of psychological whiplash for poor, poor Clive Rosfield. It is one thing that there is a tiny strangely-clad half-dragon woman is in his lap.

It is yet another thing that there is a woman in the "passenger seat" that reminds him very, very deeply of Jill. The "driver" and his blonde friend are using all sorts of lingo that he does not understand and the half-dragon woman is laughing at most of the jokes.

Lis has to show Clive how to open his first canned drink, Prompto ends up taking a picture of them all including Clive making the most confused face, etc. That's not even getting into Clive having total whiplash over seeing creatures like Cactuar that don't normally populate Valisthea.

Fun Facts about the Lycoris Hoard (Lis/Ardyn/Gladio/Emet-Selch):

they all have magical wedding collars that reinforce a mental + Aetheric bond between them, which gives them a bit of a telepathic hivemind between each other

they co-rule a city-state (Lycoris, founded in Amaurot on the First)

they can all shapeshift (to an extent)

they can possess each other

they are deemed Faerie nobility by Feo Ul/Titania

they share clothes (Mostly! Obviously Lis is too small for them to wear her clothes but she almost certainly wears theirs and the other three swap clothes sometimes)

their memories, feelings, preferences and skills bleed through into each other sometimes, on account of the telepathic bond

Lis takes nesting insanely seriously, so lounging around in the nest doing things like reading or listening to music is rather common for the four of them in their downtime.

There are times where the four of them all get collective unspoken ideas for magickal rituals or plots/schemes in their head, which is when they usually lock themselves in the library or war room to strategize, sometimes for days at a time (which is why there's an additional nest hidden in at least one of those places, for those instances). They often emerge manic and ready to rumble.

Gladio and Lis like to grill for Ardyn and Emet-Selch on the Eorzean equivalent of Sundays. They take turns swapping off on who grills, but sometimes for special occasions they will grill together.

Every so often, they all feel the need to recreationally hunt for sport (whether it's hunting each other or others like monsters, Lis's Three Other Unlucky Devotees, some poor son of a bitch that's made an enemy out of them) or otherwise fight/spar. Naughty, terrible things usually result, before, during, and after.

Lis likes to bring her partners things like a cat bringing dead things to you as treats. She will also very often curl up atop them to a.) "leech their warmth", as she puts it, and b.) claim them as part of her hoard. Gladio especially gets cuddled often because he's a big warm guy and she fits perfectly in his arms, but she cuddles Ardyn and Hades just as much. Ardyn loves snuggling up to Hades, which Hades has cursed him out for in Ancient-speak more than once.

They are banned from at least one eatery. They have blackmailed their way back into the eateries in all but a single case. (Ardyn and Lis hold a grudge about that fucking bistro, and plan to burn it to the ground or buy it out someday.)

the various inspirations for Liscanon's Gladio

I am not helping my case when I post unhinged shit like this about Liscanon Gladio/Gladiolus Lycoris Amicitia-Kaviraja of the Amaranth Clan, but I have an entire Dark Knight questline-centric longfic's worth of defense for how the fuck he gets to this VERY divergent point from his unpopular canon iteration, to be fair. You'd best believe I've deep-delved into his lore and dialogue to do him justice. >:3c

Facts about Liscanon Gladio/Gladiolus Lycoris Amicitia-Kaviraja, of the Amaranth Clan

He's Half-Galahdian! Kaviraja is his mother Ishani's last name. Her side of the family is full of their own variant of Dark Knights as well (the Ragni), and more than a few Galahdian clerics inspired by the hijras of Hindu society. He takes the last name up more fully into his own as a form of empowerment post-base Endwalker.

He's a Dark Knight! I'm working on an entire longfic about it right now, but close to the start of Endwalker's MSQ, Lis throws the Dark Knight jobstone at him during an argument, leading him to start "listening" to it as she instructed, tapping into all the sides of himself and his emotions that he shoved down in the process. A lot more in him gets awakened as a result.

Like his ties to a past life he lived as Caim, from Drakengard 1! Sometimes Caim sends sensations and feelings into his head (mostly revolving around irritation, bloodlust and general murderous urges), but Gladiolus is learning to live with this in his own way.

He is also (due to the process that Etheriys has of giving Shards of souls to those that come from outside it, in Liscanon) a Sundered Shard of Pashtarot! Specifically, he got the Thirteenth Shard of Pashtarot, a brutal Voidsent general by the name of Umbris of House Carcosa, absorbed into him — Umbris manifests inside him partially through the Dark Knight questline, affecting some of his Dark Knight abilities.

He and Noctis are on much better terms in Liscanon! He realized he was being an ass to Noctis and gets humble enough to apologize fully for everything he put Noctis through, which Noctis accepts later on. The two are pretty good friends in Liscanon! :D

Gladio, uh. He's a little more ruthless in Liscanon, too, on account of The Voidsent Partially Embedded In His Soul and Caim Drakengard and the Dark Knight Questline. This has fun consequences down the line.

Of her Hoard, Lis loves

Ardyn's amusement and spite. She adores the way he seeks amusement + how he's just as petty as she is. The two really egg each other on in somewhat horrifying ways just as much as they keep each other motivated to live, like an Eorzean Gomez + Morticia Addams.

She loves Emet's intelligence and his motivation. The way he can keep up with her on literature arguments is so much fun for her. There's a rivalry there where he's able to push her to do what needs to be done, even if it's not always something she wants to do. He provides a lot of structure in her life that she truly appreciates.

And she loves the warmth Gladio has, especially after the Dark Knight questline where he's learned to love himself and find new purposes in life outside of being the Lucian Shield he was raised to be. It means the world to her that he's able to listen to her + help her rest, just like she helps him.

Lis is very, very proud of her partners. Like a dragon with its hoard, she prizes each and every member of her polycule as the treasures they are, especially with how hard-won their love is and how much she fought for the peace they have going into Dawntrail. She WILL be loud and proud about them.

oh my god right I forgot to post the update. the Textools import messed up on Lis but... :')

This was the sight that greeted me no less than 15 minutes into 2025 and I am not afraid to admit I wept tears of fucking joy.

And to think it was as easy as copy and pasting the XV models from one version of Blender to another. Like, literally "control + C" and "control + V" copy and pasting them. It took me multiple months and the help of the Exineris Modding Discord to figure this out. Pain.

But hey, once I figure out how to re-rig the models to make it easier for posing, and how to hide Ardyn's wing and port Lis's model properly......................

Then, as they say, we will be Back In Business.

i am so close and yet so far

you have no idea how much it kills me trying to learn how to render models when i have a version of blender that renders final fantasy xv characters perfectly and another that renders final fantasy xiv characters perfectly (i messed up the hair and eyes on the left, that was on me) and trying to find a version of blender that renders both with auto-assigned textures is so insanely frustrating that i am this close to crying lmfao

any tips from those who are experienced at rendering models from both final fantasy 14 and final fantasy 15 would be most appreciated!!! please!!!

A WIP mock-up of what I'm thinking for the city-state emblem of Lycoris, the Twilight Sanctuary, the city-state founded by Lis and her allies in Amaurot on the First, post-EW.

A sylleblossom for Lucis, a Lunar Tear for Angelus, a spider lily and spires for all those lost, loved and remembered.

Their motto, "to know and be known, to love and be loved" was coined by Lis herself.

Lycoris, the Twilight Sanctuary, is the homebase for the group that Lis founds in the wake of the Scion Schism/the attempt on her life — the Wine-Dark Tribunal, a blend of the coven-cult Azem treasured and the Convocation of Fourteen. The city also acts as a sanctuary for various refugees, travelers, merchants, courtesans, artists, and other dispossessed outcasts.
