You have a choice to sacrifice Davrin or Harding during a quest. If Davrin dies, Assan dies with him.

I've known about this for over a month but I've been waiting to hear the dev's intent for this choice before deciding how I felt about it. :(

Fans are more bummed by a bird's death than Davrin's. The devs can't control that. But the fact they knew this would be the case, that they went in that direction regardless and purposefully, makes me so frustrated.

It's not just the optics of an animal giving the black companion's death emotional weight. It's Veilguard's approach to stakes and attachment and consequence as a whole.

The writing feels so impatient, like it's rushing to get to the good part already. Sticking wholesome companions in cozy situations to endear them. Killing the cute griffin for guaranteed feels. It's constantly taking the easy way out.

They played it so safe it feels dispassionate. Disinterested in complexity, disinterested in giving characters faults and biases and fears that are messy but resonate. Interested in having beloved companions and big moments, but not in the build-up to get there.

It's not just that Davrin and Assan are a package deal death. It's how cheap and uninspired it feels.

I feel so torn to have to say all this. And on DA Day no less. A day so magical templars are forcing it into the Circle. But the writing in Veilguard is so polarizing for me. I get that there were many many internal issues that led to this. A shortage of time and manpower to lore check. But some things I just can't rationalize.

It's just a game etc etc but I'm so in love with Dragon Age I can't help but mourn a little. Sorry I kind of just unloaded the yap clip lol I'm done.

I woke up this morning still thinking about Fadel waking up in Style's bed.

I wonder what was running through Fadel's head as he turned to look at Style, eyes still squinting against the too-bright morning light, the unfamiliar comfort of the shape of Style's name on his lips for the very first time. I wonder if he was too sleepy to process how strange it was that he didn't really mind being pinned down by the weight of Style's thigh thrown over his hips; that the sensation was grounding and reassuring rather than being confining or suffocating. I wonder if the thought crossed his mind that he wouldn't mind waking up like this again, wouldn't mind letting someone into his space, wouldn't mind giving someone the bared vulnerability of lying naked and unprotected with all the implications of unwavering trust that has -- not if it was with him.

I wonder if Fadel registered the way his heartbeat is steady and calm despite the strange surroundings and unfamiliar bed, because something in him has already labelled the person lying next to him as safe.

I wonder if Fadel even understood that this, right here, in all its quiet and unacknowledged stillness, was the moment he fell in love?

The little beast is getting on Mihawk's nerves.

He usually prides himself in very little truly bothering him ㅡ after all, there's also very little a sharp look and the threat of a blade won't fix ㅡ but for such a small cat, Kurai has a supernatural talent for irritating him.

From the shredded feathers to stealing your attention and time from Mihawk as a whole, Kurai has embraced his nature as a little four-legged menace.

Tonight takes the cake though. When Mihawk enters the bedroom, he fully expects to be able to take his place in bed next to you as he always does when he's here.

Only to find a frustratingly familiar mass of black fur in his space. And as if knowing that Mihawk is staring at him, Kurai opens his eyes and stares back.

"Little beast," he says, "you need to remove yourself from my bed."

Kurai blinks slowly, stretching ㅡ and then yawns and curls back up. Mihawk's eyes narrow. He entertains the brief thought of using Yoru ㅡ and honestly he would, if he thought it'd work on Kurai.

You shift, and both he and the cat still as you roll over in your sleep. Mihawk's expression softens as he takes in the peace of your face before he reaches for Kurai, scooping the kitten up.

Kurai squirms in his hold, mouth parting to sink tiny white teeth into his hand ㅡ only to freeze when Mihawk gives him a look of icy warning. He keeps hold of the kitten as he climbs into bed, taking his rightful spot beside you.

You subconsciously move closer, curling into him, and Mihawk finally lets go of Kurai, who mews in disappointment that he can't curl up with you the way he normally does. The kitten gives him a look of disdain as he's forced to settle on your hip instead, watching Mihawk as he kisses your forehead. Smirking at Kurai, the kitten all but glares daggers at Mihawk in return.

The war is far from over, but at least he's won this battle.

Hoho, you have fallen for my trap card, because I am going to list out dialogue for ALL the possible answers that I didn't do in the recent comic! You will be subjected to long answers because I have not written in a WHILE.

But first, OW, no yeah, I think Loop would answer with what you mentioned, though maybe they would be vague about it, because I don't think Loop would know what Isabeau wished for since in-game Siffrin only finds out at the end of Act 5. It would be a very fine line between wanting to make Siffrin feel bad about himself but also a bit of self-deprecation.

Loop (LOL3): That's kind of a cop-out answer, isn't it? The Universe leads, and we can only follow, so obviously they had their hand in sending me here! in relation to this tweet from Jojo, which I love - I’m amazed by the number of posts I’ve seen suggesting that Nick is an innocent victim of manipulation from Boston. no one is saying Boston isn’t messy as fuck, but he’s been so clear about his feelings and what he is/isn’t looking for. he’s told Nick multiple times that while their relationship might develop in the future, he is only interested in casual sex for now - and Nick has willingly agreed to this kind of casual, non-exclusive relationship. Boston has absolutely no obligation to be ‘faithful’ to Nick, or to tell him which of his friends he’s attracted to. Nick wanting things to be different doesn’t make it so.

violating privacy and boundaries is clearly a theme with Nick - he expresses interest in Boston by leaving suggestive photos on Boston’s phone, having already gone through (and jerked off to) Boston’s personal pictures. bugging his car takes it a step further.

(I think there’s something to be said about the way Boston’s promiscuity and open sexuality seems to make his right to privacy seem trivial or less important than that of someone more reserved - it’s fine that Nick jerked off to Boston’s personal photos, because Boston slept with him after; Nick only secretly recoded Boston having sex because Boston led him on; Boston’s a whore, so it doesn’t matter, he was asking for it… but that’s a post for another day)

this isn’t to say that Boston is an innocent victim of Nick’s behaviour either - my point is that categorising them simply as Manipulator and Victim is reductive to the complexity of both characters. they’re both interesting, fucked up, flawed people, and that’s what makes them compelling as characters - and what makes it fun to watch as they make each other worse.

Imagine making a game series where your past decisions shape the history of your world and even can decide who might show up in a later game from time to time, that you even had a special site to log the changes. Just to reduce the 'big decisions' to . . . that.

Losing the power of the anchor and the arm along with it was one thing. Losing control Rook's personality just to tell this specific story of 'Solas seeing himself in them' is another. And now to have everyone's world states revolve around events that directly affected him?

This is a choice-driven role-playing game. Every route and origin should feel complete. There should be no path that feels more canon than the other. Not because of ~appeasing every shipper~ but because of replay value, immersion, and having cool community discussions coalesce around the world and not primarily one guy.

People are frustrated for perfectly good reason. And to not only be flippant about that but also sneer & giggle together over it is so petty, clique-ish, and mean-spirited. Its giving high school girls bathroom. It's not cute!

Thank you so much for always providing such great content on your blog. It's incredibly kind of you to consistently follow the girls' activities and share the information with the English-speaking community. I know it must take a lot of effort, and I truly appreciate it.

I'm really heartbroken by the recent developments, especially the rumours and backlash against the girls. I don't believe for a second that they "betrayed" Kajiura on purpose. I just hope people can be more rational and avoid jumping to conclusions, especially when so many details are still unclear. Anyone who has been following them knows they aren't the type to be ungrateful to Kajiura. Your unwavering support for the girls really means a lot and has made me feel much better during all of this.

I was tidying up my mailbox and came across an old recording of the girls' cover of 茉莉花 (the Chinese folk song "Jasmine Flower") from their 2016 Far on the Water Live Tour in Shanghai. I'm not sure if anyone has shared it with you before, but I’d be happy if this is new to you and hope it brings a little joy to your day. It's certainly not the best quality since I recorded it secretly during the concert, and halfway through, Keiko gestured for the audience to sing along, so there's a lot of background noise. Still, I wanted to share it as a small token of thanks for all the hard work you put into supporting the girls.

I know it can be incredibly hard to follow all the information, updates and releases if you are not willing or able to invest a lot of time and money into the whole thing.

I hate seeing all the backlash against the girls. Yes, Yuki Kajiura has every right to feel slighted and her loyal fans can be disappointed or angry on her behalf. It's understandable. But remain reasonable and stick to facts. Don't treat the girls as if they are not even human, as if they were just instruments used by Yuki Kajiura, without their own feelings or thoughts. You really think this decision for the reunion live was made lightly without putting a lot of thought and consideration into it? You really think the girls didn't weigh all their available options in advance and decided this was the best possible course of action for everyone involved even if that route would ultimately lead to them being in a position where they simply weren't allowed to speak of the matter? Sometimes life puts obstacles in our way and we have no choice but to grit our teeth and move past them to get where we want to be. Along the line, sacrifices have to made and not everything will be sunshine and rainbows. The entertainment industry sucks and there are a lot of people in high positions who don't always have everyone's best interest in mind. I am sure Yuki Kajiura, Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru are very much aware of that fact and will find a way to clear up any existing misunderstandings in a civil manner.

Everyone, please realise that name-calling the girls and accusing them of every horrible thing under the sun is unacceptable, it's just beyond disrespectful and it's no way to treat someone you claim to be a fan of. Even if your loyalty lies more with Yuki Kajiura, I assume you are still a fan of Kalafina so please treat the members with the respect they deserve and don't readily dismiss them just because of an incident we don't know any details about.

I 100% understand why Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru are currently trying to lay low in the aftermath of the announcement. Still, it's sad that they are forced into a corner like that, that they feel the need to "hide" from their fans during a time that was surely intended to be celebratory for all of us. It's been unusually quiet on all of their social media channels. Not even a random Instagram story by Keiko or a new YouTube video from Hikaru...*sighs* They obviously don't want to stir up any more trouble and are waiting for things to blow over but I personally feel that it would actually help some fans to see reason if they heard the girls speak up about the reunion in a more casual and frank manner. We'll obviously never find out anything about the internal machinations of the whole thing but it would be nice to know how the girls feel about this reunion on an emotional level. Unfortunately, the official announcement statements felt a bit too stilted and coordinated so I think they came across as not entirely genuine to many fans. Oh well, that's not how situations are usually handled in the Japanese entertainment industry so we'll just have to wait and see...

i’m curious about your opinion on absolute zeal

maybe it’s because i sort of am very unaware of zayne as a character, so i didn’t know the extent to which he abstains from alcohol, but i sort of was under the impression that he wasn’t actually all that drunk at all? like he was buzzed, but it was more of a mental high from gaining the confidence (and having an excuse to fall back on) to be a bit less restrained, just like his gf expressed she wanted to see, rather than a physical one.

like i’ve noted in the few incidents i’ve played with zayne that him and MC enjoy roleplay a lot. and even in the card they’re role-playing. so it sort of felt like he was playing it up a little (not faking but more so… letting go of inhibitions because he has an excuse to) since they talked about her taking care of him while he’s drunk? and then he does end up sobering up substantially and the whole interaction between them feels consensual on both sides (with mc making sure he’s okay and only relenting when he expresses his disinterest in “getting sober” while he explicitly asks for consent and she gives it and leans in to kiss him. like her reluctance came from him acting ooc, and once she was sure he was okay she went along with the flow)

plus all the context clues with the shower and the work call. it felt more like he was more drunk on his desire than the alcohol and that the buzz just allowed him to throw away his inhibitions and let himself go for a bit. he even admits in the end that he would want to get drunk again just so he could be taken care of (and mc is the one who tells him she doesn’t want him drinking again because obviously, she cares about him).

also the thing about her not telling him, does he fully abstain from alcohol or is it just drinking? this bit confused me a bit because in chinese cuisine they use a lot of alcohol (that gets cooked out, but they do contain alcohol as an ingredient). and i figured the chocolate would be the same, not something that can get you drunk but just something that has the flavour? so i assumed MC just overlooked the detail (which yeah not the best excuse. i think if you love and care for someone you’re very attuned to their needs. but this seems like an obvious case of deuce ex machina where her flustered state leaves her a little distracted perhaps and she forgets to tell him because she would assume nobody could get drunk off one chocolate with liquor in it.

and then there’s the context of zayne biting into the chocolate and immediately realising it has liquor in it. and you’d assume he’d spit it out if he was upset but the scene cuts off to a comedic scene of him buzzed, implying that he willingly ate it. i mean it’s still iffy of course but i did think that it’s entirely plausible for mc to overlook the detail because it’s not an alcoholic beverage and therefore wouldn’t have a high alcohol content? idk i don’t drink either but i abstain from every form of alcohol, including cooking alcohol or negligible amounts. if that was the case with zayne it would be a major breach of trust but this kinda feels a little blurry because he comes across as someone who doesn’t drink, which isn’t the same as zero alcohol (at least to my knowledge. maybe i’m wrong)? i’m not sure how people who don’t completely abstain from alcohol draw their boundaries on these things but in zayne’s case he did seem pretty okay with it (i mean i don’t enjoy the idea of “loosening up” someone by pushing them beyond their limits but he does seem receptive to her antics the same way she’s receptive to his sarcastic coldness).

from the way people were describing it, i imagined something horribly misguided and dubious but this card actually did include consensual interaction (both verbal and physical). the narrative makes it so clear that zayne does sober up before anything escalates and MC reciprocates only when she’s sure he’s lucid, and he does the same and makes sure he isn’t scared by how unrestrained he’s being. and i think the whole scene of her worried for him and wanting him to take the pills while he refuses felt very “married-coded”. idk why people think it wasn’t. there wasn’t any discomfort i sensed, simply concern and perhaps a little guilt on MC’s part for giving him the chocolate because she didn’t anticipate it would make him act the way he was. there was no malicious intent, just two people who trust one another being playful because they have a trusting relationship where they’re aware the other person wouldn’t ever harm them (it can obviously pose a seriously problem irl but in the context of the story and their relationship it seemed like both parties did not mind—again circling back to the fact that he knew it was alcoholic after biting into it and still ate it). the morning after felt in line with the “playfulness escalating” idea because obviously they always tease one another but this time it went to a newer level for the first time.

idk, what do you think? i really want to see the problems everyone else is seeing but i think the plot gave so many context clues that negate any dubious behaviour? that it’s simply an interaction between a couple who already trust one another and are fully aware of each other’s boundaries and how far to push. is this a case of lack of media literacy. or am i simply overlooking things and being ignorant?

I'm not sure if you read my earlier post where I wrote an in-depth essay on my thoughts so I'll link it here.

To summarize and address the main points in your message:

Zayne is described as a 'teetotaler' on that page in the game where they list tidbits about the boys. By definition, that means someone who abstains from consuming alcohol altogether. I'm going to assume that means he avoids it in his food as well, even if it's been cooked out.

There was a lot of hurr durr that MC took advantage of Zayne's drunken state but I also feel like the writing was made very ambiguous because although we know Zayne is a lightweight, it felt like he had sobered up midway through the memory when he tells MC he's going to shower. After this, we see him take a work call and give medical advice about a patient which I doubt he would do if he was incapacitated. MC very much consented to his advances but only after he had established that he was sure he wanted to do this, ie, had come to a stage where he was able to consent.

Role-playing does seem to be their thing, they even do that in Abyssal Chaos. And for couples that have been together for a long time, that's not uncommon because it adds a sense of whimsy and surprise to their normal routine selves.

The so-called awkwardness in the morning after; a moot of mine was discussing this with me and she told me that there is an interaction with Zayne at affinity 124 (I haven't gotten that far yet) where Zayne admits he's scared of losing MC because of his evol. He reassures her that he'll try his best to stay in control and that's why he doesn't drink, but also agrees he needs to be more comfortable in letting her see him be vulnerable. The whole reluctance and embarrassment in this memory was due to the fact that he almost lost control again, and he was clearly resisting her attempts to help because he wanted to be the one to bring things back to normal. The embarrassment was because he went back on his promise and he was nervous about her reaction to it but as we can see she's fine. Her embarrassment is probably because she saw this wild side of Zayne and perhaps she enjoyed it too and is hoping he'll do it again without needing alcohol as an excuse.

The whole memory played off as a couple who deeply trust each other but were also trying to spice up a lull in their relationship which can happen. The ending seemed perfect to me and captures their married vibe; married couples get nasty at night, then wake up perfectly normal, kiss each other in the morning then go their own way to work. There's no need for clinginess or explanations because that's the depth of their relationship.

The memories are not chronological. Maybe this was before Zayne tells MC that he loses control of his evol when he has alcohol.

I don't think any of your interpretations were wrong, and I agree that MC should feel guilty for letting him eat the chocolate knowing he doesn't take alcohol. And it's not like Xavier's card doesn't have it's faults. Man got jealous each time MC was having a perfectly normal interaction with other people. I haven't watched Rafayel and Sylus's memories yet but there seemed to be less hate for all those cards than what I saw for Zayne. There's nothing wrong with the card, but I feel like a lot people complaining haven't experienced a long term relationship and fail to understand that intimacy looks different for different couples. They were saying Zayne failed to provide reassurance and aftercare because it wasn't explicitly shown (Xavier's card had him snuggling MC in bed the morning after and they talk about their relationship). But I think in the caes of Zayne it made perfect sense because they've known each other the longest. Zayne doesn't need to reassure her he'll be there because it's a given. They know that and are secure in their relationship.

So to sum up, I think people are complaining for the sake of complaining. I love this card, and I love how dominating Zayne was. As much as I like him being the chair, it was nice to see him taking initiative in this one.
