When I play Double Exposure the question they’re going to ask me is “Did you chose to sacrifice Arcadia Bay” but the question that will register in my mind will be “Do you want Chloe literally haunting the narrative or do you want her to be haunting the narrative in the sense that she’s constantly spamming Max with texts?”

Max (could) choose to sacrifice the whole town for Chloe. THE WHOLE TOWN. She's going back in time so many times just for saving Chloe. Chloe never despise Max, despite Max going AWOL on her when she moved out from Arcadia Bay. THEY'RE SCREAMING SOULMATE. Chloe literally said that she will always be with Max forever. Dang, I'll just gonna pretend the 'break up' part is unreal and the comic book is the true continuation of their story. This is so ironic because they're supposed to be the one who knows their character so well, but ended up having no clue at all about both Max & Chloe.

Unpopular opinion I guess :

I dont mind Chloe not being in the New Life is Strange. Heck I don't even mind if she broke up with Max. Why?

The game deals with alternate realities, meaning realities that are different from one another. And considering the devs stance on the two endings of the first game being canon, it's safe to assume that all alternate realities are Canon.

So if the game take place in a world where Max and Chloe broke up, it doesn't take away from the og ending. It's just one of the many outcome of the BAE ending.

Imo The game isn't gonna be like "BTW you sacrificed the town for nothing lol they broke up" but more "here's one reality where they broke up" which I find very interesting.

I have this gut feeling that LiS4 is gonna show Chloe in a really cliche way and it’s gonna have like a choice menu that will ask you for your ending for the first game and if you chose to save either Chloe or Arcadia it won’t matter because Chloe won’t be throughout the game at all until like one of those dumb cinematic scenes where the character is off screen and she’ll say something like “hey madmax” and max turns around and she’ll be like “Chloe?!” And it’ll end there

And this will be explained either by the fact that max is in her original or parallel timeline where one timeline Chloe was saved and the other where she didn’t or vice versa depending on what you chose for your LiS ending

i’m kind of disappointed with lis4 and i’m (shockingly) not really looking forward to it??

up until today i had no idea that the new game was gonna follow max and as much as i adore her and want more content with that character (obviously) i’m kind of disappointed and wish that they didn’t try to bring her back.

something i love about life is strange is that every game has new characters and new powers, and that their stories begin and end within their games. despite loving the characters and wanting more, i’m content with not having more sequels to their stories bc their stories are over. those chapters are closed. it’s finished.

little things that connect each game (like the max/chloe easter egg, the david and captain spirit cameo in lis2) is wonderful. but now they’re opening it all up with max’s new game and it feels like such a cash grab?

especially because of the lack of enthusiasm/negative reviews with true colours; instead of coming up with fresh new characters and a new power they’re bringing back a beloved character bc they know it’ll sell and they’re scared they’ll have another flop (IM SORRY TC NO HATE, U JUST DIDNT DO AS WELL) ((they’re scared of having a true colours 2.0 which is so ironic considering the new game is an exact copy))

i think the main characters could definitely come back- again, with little cameos in future games- or at the end as a way to tie the series together once it’s over. but this new game just feels like a huge cash grab

So yeah, as it turns out, trying to avoid making one ending canon over the other doesn't work all the time.

It worked reasonably well in the second game and Wavelengths because Max and Chloe were not directly involved in the story, so that final choice was the only thing they needed to account for.

It doesn't quite work as neatly when you bring Max back and make her the main character again. If you're treating both endings as canon, then you need to explain what happened to Chloe in the event that players chose to save her over Arcadia Bay.

And quite understandably, having them split up during the timeskip has not gone over well with a good chunk of the fanbase. Whether it makes sense for them to drift apart or not isn't relevant, breaking up a couple offscreen is inevitably going to make fans of that couple feel shitty.

No matter what, it's impossible to have Double Exposure respect both endings equally, because having Chloe and Max break up offscreen inherently disrespects everything they had to go through to be together in the first place.

This may or may not end up being an unpopular take, but in my opinion, Double Exposure should have only taken place in the Sacrifice Chloe timeline. It makes sense for the Max of that timeline to end up where she does in DE, not so much for the Max of the Sacrifice Arcadia Bay timeline.

Also, because people are being rubbed the wrong way by the "We were high school sweethearts" line, I should point out that it is very unlikely that she will say those words verbatim. The reveal stream did not show us what she actually says if you pick that option, and the actual dialogue always differs from the choices.
