Do you even need me to request kpop revalink
Tumblr media
(kpop idol revali for reference)
i'm just going to put your two asks together lmao
this idea is so big-brained and on brand. i was originally already beginning to write about link and zelda being in an idol duo (an idea i borrowed from my concepted fe3h kpop idols au LOL), but this lines up better with revalink's canon interactions ^^ maybe zelda can be analogous to IU or taeyeon or another huge kpop soloist
i'm going to continue in the assumed world where HYRULE CORP is the main company, and the companies link and revali are from are subsidiaries of HYRULE, i.e. revali is under Hebra Ent. and link is actually from a smaller, newly acquired company called Necluda Music. i'm gonna pull an olivia hye on link and say he actually only trained for one day before the managers decided they wanted him to debut, because he's actually a fucking prodigy; he passed the audition with flying colors, and the vocal coaches and dance teachers think he's already debut-ready 🫣 in contrast, i'm going to pull a jihyo on revali and have him be a trainee of 10 years LMFOAKJDHFKDJ should i pull a TWICE on RiTO and have them form via competition/survival show too?
warning for the below. this was extremely self-indulgent and perhaps indecipherable because i used so many kpop terms. but i had a lot of fun writing it.
at this time, RiTO have been rookies for a couple months now and are preparing for their next comeback with a mini album (their debut was only a single), when revali gets the news that their new sister company Necluda Music (what a dumb name, revali thinks) will be debuting a brand new soloist by the name of LINK, with who the company wants to demonstrate a better way of connecting the fans to their idol. revali is still a little bitter about having to debut in a group, even though teba and his hyungs (KDJFJKDFJD) are helping him deal with the bitterness better, so revali can't help but get a little frumpy and sour. but when he hears that this kid has only trained for ONE DAY (alexa play 'just one day' by bts) and is debuting already, he is absolutely beside himself with anger.
"what do you mean he only trained for a day before they decided he would debut?" revali screeches, slamming the door of the practice room open. kass jumps and yells in surprise, where teba and harth's eyes widen at the sound and they spin to look at revali. mimo doesn't even flinch and continues stretching. "i trained for ten years since i was a child, and this kid gets to debut like it's nothing?!"
teba relaxes and sighs. "there's nothing we can do about it, revali," he tries to say as calmly as possible, but he's already a little irritated with revali's attitude. their maknae has yet to mature. "we're not even under the same company. if necluda's ceo thinks he's ready to debut, then he debuts. and if he fails, then he fails."
"but don't you think it's unfair, hyung?" revali says, stalking into the room towards his leader. "we trained for years for a chance to debut, and he doesn't even get hours before they shove him onto the stage. what's so special about him?"
"we'll find out soon enough," harth grumbles, and turns back towards the mirror to continue stretching with mimo. "he debuts in a month, doesn't he?" mimo hums in affirmation.
"just because link was able to debut sooner does not negate your talent, revali," kass says gently. "you worked very hard to get to where you are now, and you were finally able to debut, a feat most trainees may never achieve. you are an extremely talented vocalist and dancer, and they're calling you the it boy of this generation of idols. you should be proud of yourself, you know!"
revali tries his best not to blush at the compliments, but his cheeks pinken anyway and he pouts, crossing his arms and looking away. "i suppose you're right..."
teba claps a hand on revali's shoulder. "try not to worry about it so much," he advises. "focus on your lessons and practicing the new songs. comeback is just around the corner, and it'll do you no good kicking up a fuss about that kid." revali nods and they start practicing for their new song. but try as he might to heed teba's words, revali can't stop thinking about this mysterious new soloist and just exactly how talented he could possibly be to debut so soon...
(the night that link debuts, revali is ready. he has youtube open on his laptop huddled in his bed, watching the countdown to the music video and a furrow in his brow. he's had the video open all day since he got the notification that the video would drop tonight and he's waiting. he has to know what this link kid has that his 8 year old self didn't.
it's everything. link naturally has everything that revali didn't. his voice, his body control, his charisma, all of it. begrudgingly, he has to accept that link does have what it takes to debut so soon. and that he isn't so bad looking. no, revali does not like him, KASS GET BACK HERE—)
link's debut is extremely successful, a single called 'LEGEND' with a kid-becomes-superhero concept. link has a very "boy next door" look to him, so of course the girlies are about to eat him up, he's a cutie and everyone wants to bring him home to their parents ☝️😹 bro is breaking both hyrule corp's records and industry records, he's already on par with the corporation's top soloists zelda and ganon, and fans are calling the three of them together as the "Triforce", since they're a triple threat for hyrule corp 😁 people are predicting how many music show wins link is going to get and whether or not he's going to chart on billboard and how high, longevity vs freefall, how many views the mv is going to get in 24 hours, etc
and revali is furious. RiTO is going to start losing its hype if link ends up charting on billboard or get more music show wins than their debut did. sure, the kid's good but he can't be better than revali! revali would rather die than let link be better than him.
the other members are more optimistic and try to pay less attention to link's debut, choosing to focus on their own comeback. meanwhile, every day that revali walks into the practice room, he's a little ball of burning, spitting fire, talking about how their debut was so much better than link's and that he doesn't understand the hype. but in the middle of talking shit, revali kind of accidentally reveals that he's basically been keeping up with link's promotion schedule? "i watched the studio choom video, it wasn't even that good. he's relying too much on the backup dancers and camera angles." or "apparently, he's performing on inkigayo too. let's hope that it'll be better than his music bank stage. hmph."
it's not until link does an interview on one of those variety shows when the host asks link who inspires him the most, that revali's entire life gets flipped upside his head. "ah," link says, his cheeks flushing pink and smiling shyly, "well, i have a lot of people who inspire me, like my family or zelda-sunbaenim, but the person who inspires me the most... it would be RiTO's revali-sunbaenim."
revali is watching the interview in the living room of their shared dormitory, sat in the middle of the couch in between all of his members, all of their eyes widening. his mouth drops and his eyes bug out of his head. "what?!" he nearly shouts.
mimo shakes his head. "couldn't have seen that coming."
"oh, revali from RiTO?" even the host is surprised. "can you tell us more?"
"sure," link says, beaming. "i've always admired revali-sunbae because he's a very talented performer and he was a trainee for such a long time. i remember seeing him on tv for hebra entertainment's old competition show when i was a kid, and i was so moved by how he refused to back down when the judges told him he was too young to debut. of course, this industry is not safe for children, but revali-sunbae's passion to perform and his determination to debut was so cool!" link's cheeks darken a little more and he smiles shyly at the camera again. "ah... and he worked hard and debuted well in his group, with a successful song and concept."
"haha, that's amazing, link-ssi!" the host laughs. "if revali-ssi was here or if he was watching, what would you say to him?"
"revali-sunbae," link says, staring at the camera with sparkling eyes, "thank you for inspiring me to aim high and to chase after my own dreams. your determination and talent motivates and challenges my own performance and i will always strive to perform as well as you. i hope we can meet and work together one day. fighting, revali-sunbae!" he stands up from his chair and does a full 90º bow, to which the host of the variety show laughs in surprise and claps.
"wah, you have so much respect for revali-sunbae, who would've known!" they remark. "revali-ssi, if you see this, please treat your hoobae well!"
the interview continues with other unrelated topics, but revali is still staring blankly at the tv screen, mouth still agape and eyes wide. there's just no way that happened just now. link? inspired by revali? motivated and challenged by revali?
"hello, earth to revali," harth says, waving his hand in front of revali's eyes. it breaks his gaze and he shakes his head. "are you back with us yet?"
"he had to have been lying," revali immediately insists.
"why would he lie?" mimo muses. "he remembers you from that shitty old competition show and it clearly had an impact on him as a kid. you can see the genuinity in his eyes,"
revali cringes at the memory of being on that show and how he acted as a child, but shakes his head again. "he could be saying it to associate with us and boost his popularity!" okay, to be fair that was terrible reasoning, but revali is scrambling to pull any cards to explain why link would be lying about being inspired by him. he had to be lying... right?
"i told you, revali, you're the it boy of this generation of idols," kass snickers. "of course you're going to have fans."
"shut up," revali growls, crossing his arms and curling in on himself. "there's just no way..."
but where there's a will, there's a way 😊 almost immediately after that clip of link's interview comes out, the RiTO social media accounts' notifications are blowing up asking for revali's response. fans are trending revali and link's names, and a portmanteau of them as "revalink". all the tweets are about how cute link is looking up to revali and how revali and link would make a good pair, and revali just can't stop flushing as he scrolls through the trending tags about all of these comments. and strangely, revali's managers aren't even mad about the situation. "this could be good for publicity," they say. "since link's debut was so popular, showing good feelings towards each other might make RiTO more popular too. please reply to link and say something nice to him. maybe congratulate him on debuting or compliment him, just make sure you say something nice."
so at the insistence of his managers, revali does exactly that and only that. he goes to the RiTO twitter account and tweets out a short, but polite, "@/LINK_NCM Congratulations on your debut :) Fighting! -Revali" and though he means it to be only short and polite, that is not how the internet takes it. instead, it feeds the flames of this whole #revalink thing and suddenly, revali has dating rumors with this new rookie.
kpop websites like allkpop and koreaboo are posting articles with clips of link's interview and revali's tweet with dumbass headlines like "RiTO's Revali responds to new soloist Link's plea: Are the two seeing each other?" there are analysis videos talking about how link blushed when he mentioned revali, so they must be dating, right??? like for goddess's sake, all link said was that revali was cool as fuck and that he was inspired by revali, it didn't mean that they were seeing each other! not that revali would mind if they dated. what? he didn't say that.
revali is lying facedown on the floor of the practice room having screamed for about half an hour to let go of his frustrations, but the irritation still pricks up and down his spine. teba and harth find him like that when they enter the room and rolls their eyes.
"stop screaming, you're going to ruin your voice," teba says. harth walks over to crouch by revali and pushes him to roll him over onto his back. revali lets himself get rolled but glares at his members.
"this is ridiculous," he spits from the floor. "how could something as irrelevant as a compliment spiral into the most convoluted dating rumor in the entire world? there was nothing that could have indicated i felt any sort of way towards that imbecile in my tweet so why on earth is the internet exploding with such nonsense? it's simply just...!" revali rolls back over onto his stomach and screams. "asinine!"
"keep your voice down, or we're going to get noise complaints," teba says, pinching in between his eyes. "this is just the way the fans are, which is why we have to be careful about what we say about or how we interact with other artists. there's nothing wrong with link looking up to you, but regardless of whether or not you acknowledged him would have blown up either way. if you didn't say anything, fans would think you're blowing him off and being disrespectful. and even if you said anything less, fans would still think you've been secretly seeing each other. it's impossible to eliminate speculation in environments like this." teba crouches on the other side of revali's facedown body and sighs, softening his voice. "nothing else can be done to remedy the situation other than to let it die down. just keep being polite and hope that the fans find something else to go crazy over. now come on, we're reviewing the b-side choreo today."
"this is ridiculous," revali mumbles again, but he stands up and dusts himself off. "if this is what happens when you acknowledge other idols, i am never tweeting or being nice to anyone ever again. i'm deleting that cursed app off of my phone and you can all make up fake tweets for me."
"don't be dramatic," teba responds, gently tapping the top of revali's head with his palm. "now get to stretching while we wait for mimo and kass."
you know how music shows will have idols be the hosts, introduce the performing idols, and interview them and shit? now what if link and revali get selected to host together 😊 to be honest i don't really watch that many music shows if it's not a clip of the performance i'm watching for, like i don't sit there and watch throughout the entire music show lolksdjhkd so i don't really know what the dynamics of idols hosting together is like? i do know that they usually have cards they read off of tho lol
the managers tell revali that he's going to host M Countdown or some shit and he's like Cool I guess, who am I hosting with? and they reluctantly are like. Erm. Link. and revali's eyes go wide and red with anger, he's ready to throw a fit, until teba claps a hand on his shoulder and tells him to calm down.
"i told you not to be dramatic," he says, as revali silently fumes under teba's hand. "you're making a big deal out of nothing."
"out of nothing?" revali hisses. "does mnet want me dead or do they want me to kill link first?"
teba bops him on the head and revali squawks. "don't make threats or it'll be me who makes you a first kill," he says. "just be polite and read off the cards. you're already a good actor, your fanservice was top notch even though you hated us all at first."
"i already apologized for that," revali grumbles rubbing his head. "but it's different with link."
"is it because you like him?" kass teases.
"no!" revali squawks. "because i still can't stand the thought of that upstart training only for a day before getting to debut. i don't care that he's vocally talented and has great control over his body. i want nothing to do with him!"
"i bet if he was on masked singer, you'd recognize his voice right away," kass sighs. revali screams and goes barreling at his fellow member, teba holding him back.
THIS POST IS GETTING SO LONG NOW but imagining revali finally meeting link at m countdown and link is just. so completely starstruck when revali greets him and his manager. he bows at a complete 90º angle again (he would have down a full floor bow if his manager didn't pull him up), and looks up at revali with bright sparkling eyes.
"a-ah, hello revali-sunbaenim!" link says, nearly squeaking. "it's a pleasure to meet you!"
revali bows slightly in response to be respectful, but the squeak in link's voice and his sparkling eyes... intrigue him. "it's a pleasure to meet you as a well, link-hoobaenim," he lies cleanly. but is it really a lie?
link is still staring at him in his fanboy mode, wide-eyed and open-mouthed, and his manager elbows him. "y-yes!" he stammers, jumping. "ah i'm sorry i'm so nervous, revali-sunbae, it's just really cool to meet you in person and i'm excited to work with you!"
revali hums, link's words stroking his ego just a little bit. "you haven't hosted a show before either, have you?" he says.
link shakes his head frantically. "no, revali-sunbae, this will be my first time hosting a show."
and revali stares a little bit at him. "hm. let's do well together, then, link-hoobae," he says, nodding and then turning to walk away back to his green room. "see you later."
as he walks away, he swears he hears link squeak again. "purah manager-nim, he's so cool!" and revali fights the smile trying to make its way onto his lips. cute. what? he didn't say that. he does not think link is cute. (maybe a little...)
when they start filming the MC portions, revali can't keep his eyes off of link. the blond is bright and cheery, ever smiling and enthusiastic, and revali can't help but play off of his energy. the film crew hands them their card prompts and signal for them to start talking with a thumbs up.
"hi everyone! we're counting down to the greatest acts of the kpop world here at: m countdown!" they greet together, and then link introduces himself.
"i'm the hero who will fight for you, LINK!" he says, holding up a peace sign and pressing one of fingers into his cheek, winking.
"and i'm the wings that will take you to the sky, Revali," revali says, saluting and winking as well. "and we are your brand new MCs for the season." link cheers, shaking his hands jazz-hand style.
"revali-sunbaenim," link then says, reading off of his cards, "it's our first time being MCs ever! are you nervous?"
"i'm not nervous at all," revali says smoothly, glancing at his cards. "are you feeling nervous, link-hoobaenim?"
"ah, maybe a little bit," link says, rubbing the back of his head and smiling shyly at the camera. "i'm only a rookie standing next to the awesome it boy of our generation and my role model! i want to do well!" he winks and raises a fist, pumping it into the air.
revali cringes internally. who is writing these cards? "oh, i'm flattered, but you debuted well, our favorite superhero-next door. link-hoobae, how old are you?"
"me? i'm a year younger than you, revali-sunbaenim," link says, looking at revali with wide eyes. revali can't tell if he's just acting or not, with how real the surprised look on link's face is.
"ah, well in that case, just call me hyung," he says, faking a smile. truthfully, he doesn't want link to call him hyung — they don't even know each other like that yet — but it's part of the script, so he has to read it out. revali is seriously going to chew out whoever wrote these cards. "you'll feel more comfortable if you call me hyung, right?"
and it's like link forgets his line for a moment, just staring wide-eyed and mouth agape at revali. if he focuses, revali thinks that link's cheeks are pink now. but link jumps right back into the script, "ah, yes, revali-hyung! i'm more comfortable now, thank you." he turns back to the camera, still smiling shyly. "ah, revali-hyung is so cool, he makes my heart beat so fast! which reminds me, the group who has a comeback today will make your heart beat fast too!"
so they list off everyone who's performing today and what songs, they go over who the top artists of last week were, more dumb MC skits, some short interviews with some of the performing groups, and the entire time, revali can't get his mind off of the way link said "revali-hyung". he thought he was going to hate it, but... he actually doesn't mind as much as he thought he would? weird.
when the MC filming is done, they step out of the shooting area and link immediately turns to revali and bows at the same 90º angle he did last time. "revali-sunbaenim, i'm so sorry," he says. "i didn't realize that the cards were going to say that, i won't call you hyung if you don't want me to." revali stares in surprise but link stays in his full bow.
"link-hoobae, please stand up," he finally manages. slowly, link does, but he keeps his eyes downcast, his brows furrowed into a crestfallen expression on his face. "it's fine, i didn't know either. please don't worry too much. please keep referring to me as sunbaenim when we are not on the set. thank you for being respectful of me, link-hoobaenim."
"of course, revali-sunbaenim!" link says and bows again. "i look forward to filming with you again, revali-sunbaenim!" he bows once more, which revali returns and part ways. he stares curiously after the blond who hurries back to his own green room. huh. i mean... maybe revali wouldn't mind too much if link called him hyung from now on. not that he'd admit that out loud!
anyways the longer that link and revali MC together, the more they kinda become like this compilation of eunchae and chaemin. they start ignoring the cards and just bicker (read: flirt aggressively) for five minutes straight and at first their managers and the show staff are like, PLEASE just stick to the script. but the fans are super into it because they're all revalink shippers 😭 so they just let revali and link bicker/flirt during the show as long as they follow the script and the views skyrocket because the chemistry is insane LMFAOKJDFDK
i just think. kpop idols au revalink ☝️😃

a 62yo man in a very small, very wealthy suburban city near Seattle, WA has been caught possessing, producing, and selling CSAM. Homeland Security Investigations and members of the Major Crimes Task Force have linked it to a larger international child sex trafficking ring. the man had business cards with sample photos of young (est. 6-10yo) girls alongside his name, number, and "project manager" on them. he also had guns and hundreds of thousands in US and foreign currencies. they found his "staging room" and photos and videos indicating the room had been used for this purpose and for live mobile casting. his houses (because he had two in this neighbourhood, where each house is typically at least $5mil but many are closer to $20mil) were five minutes from each other and just under a mile from the local elementary school. he's currently in custody.
the thing is, he had already been caught before. TWICE.
he had already been arrested (2012) and convicted (2013) for possession of CSAM in California. then, in 2014 a random check by the Canadian border police found more than a thousand images of minors engaged in sex acts on his phone. the arrest report from the border agents claims he reponded to being told he was being taken into custody by saying "that's not child porn, it's just happy pictures." before this most recent arrest in December 2024, he had only been in community custody instead of being in prison.
this story hasn't really broken yet, but I would expect (or at least hope) to see more about it in the news as more of the investigation starts to become available to the public. for now, all we have are the police reports from the arresting this guy and executing the warrants on his properties, as well as a few other relevant records. a local independent reporter and a neighbourhood newsletter have summarised what we know so far and included these documents. neither of these links includes any graphic material, but the reports themselves describe a few clips of what the officers witnessed (when they arrived to arrest him, they saw him through a window actively watching CP on a laptop).
my question is how the fuck was he still freely allowed to move between states, live so close to an elementary school, change his name, exit and enter the country, avoid incarceration, and have such light sentencing with such little supervision that he could operate and profit from a massive international CSAM business fuelled by material he himself produced, entirely uninhibited while in "community custody"??? he was able to have children in his houses after two arrests for CSAM in two states and two convictions (the first was a misdemeanor, the second a felony).
when can we start also holding judges accountable for endangering minors by letting repeat-offender pedophiles go free? seriously, how many more kids suffered because this convicted waste of carbon got an extra decade of unhindered opportunity? I want the victims' families to sue, I want this case to set a legal precedent requiring harsher sentencing, I want a justice system that isn't just a snooze button for holding rich perverted men mildly accountable. at the very least, I want major news sources to pick this up and present it as the big deal it is.

Best Fics 2024 edition
I read 57 fics last year, transferred to a traditional book pages, it's over 10 000 pages. And yes, it's all ✨Ineffable Husbands✨. I have a catalogue and I mark and rate all fics I read. And here are my favourites from 2024!
(See all the tags and warnings from AO3 page, fic names are links to AO3.)
stalwart sun, wily moon by @dustandhalos (Heist AU) Rated M, Words 369 969 My comment: They are both working with art, Aziraphale fixes the antiques, Crowley steals it. I read this 2 times last year, it is my all time favourite. I will read it again this year. Yes, it's a long one, but it is so wholesome and it has everything (not smut though). It broke my heart and fixed it later and nurtured my soul. I'm a fan.
Mon Horrible Chéri by @mrghostrat Rated E, Words 39 954 My comment: They are teachers and they go to Paris with a whole class. They hate each other! Enemies to lovers and so delicious. My favourit part is this small scene from the theatre (minor spoilers): "The air swept out of Aziraphale’s lungs and he stared blankly at the stage. He couldn’t hear a thing for all the blood suddenly rushing to his ears, boiling from the heat that exuded from Crowley’s thigh. It didn’t move, didn’t bounce. Just sat there, flushed against his own, positioned knee to knee and thigh to thigh, securely and intentionally." Like... that's... someones knee touching yours but Ghostrat makes it the whole world! Also the illustrations are soo good!
Big Name Feelings by @mrghostrat (Fandom AU) Rated E, Words 103 997 My comment: Another one from Ghostrat. "Crowley is a BNF fic writer, and Aziraphale is a lurking artist who might be just a little parasocially in love with him." This, too, is so well written and also with lots of illustrations and custom emojis.
Anthony J. Crowley, Retired Demon and Airbnb Superhost by TheOldAquarian (@darkpurpledawn) Rated G, Words 3 027 My comment: This fic is basicly a review section of Crowleys Airbnb apartment, which is in Mayfair and has a lot of house plants and frequent angel like visitor. It is HILARIOUS! "Don’t post a close-up picture of that statue of the two angels, Instagram WILL remove it." Pray For Us, Icarus by Atalan (@brightwanderer) Rated G+T, Words 67 805 (Parts 1-7) My comment: This is a heart breaking story and it's so good and well written. "For three centuries, Crowley has been reincarnated over and over as a human with no memory of his past. Aziraphale has tried to find a way to restore him to his true self, but all he seems to do is hurt them both. This time, he only means to steal a brief moment when he walks into Crowley's flower shop. But Crowley can't let it go…"
What We Make of It (Shotgun Wedding) by @charlottemadison42 Rated E, Words 213 340 My comment: Crowley is Adam's guardian and Aziraphale is Adam's English teacher. Our heroes meet and you know what happens. But because their jobs, there are legal issues and they can't have a romantic relationship. So what to do? Panic, angst, be recless! Great story with all the kids and other characters.
Or Be Nice by @charlottemadison42 Rated E, Words 151 368 My comment: "A human AU in which Aziraphale is a bookseller, Crowley is a drummer, and they are both petty disasters in the worst/best way." Also they are neighbours. This is so FUN!! And also sweet. The pranks they make each other are delightful!
Slow Show by mia_ugly (@mia-ugly) / Podfixx (@podfixx) Rated E, Words 95 505 My comment: I have listened the podfic by Podfixx two times last year. Slow Show is a whole story with our favourite heroes who are co-stars of a popular television program. I love when the characters have a past and it shows and it affects everything they do. It makes the story go deep. I love this!
sanctuary by @moonyinpisces Rated T, Words 22 635 My comment: "Whatever’s happened, Aziraphale doesn’t like it. Change. Such a dreadful invention. (One of Crowley’s, undoubtedly)." This fic has so many things I can't even remember all the things I loved in it (I should read it again!). I think the biggest thing was that it triggered my religious trauma some how and the way Aziraphale had to deal with all the things made in the name of Christianity. And still he could love and be loved.
We Only Said Goodbye with Words, I Died A Hundred Times by ras_elased Rated E, Words 9 333 My comment: This is a hurricane of dialogue and emotions. It was (checks the catalogue) february, when I read this, so I can't remember too much (should re-read). But after reading this I was so impressed it made it's way in this list!
---
There were also other great fics! If you are interested in my lists, you can contact me. I'm very open to fic recommendation exhange! There are great fics from year 2023 which are not mentioned here, but are superfabulous!

Bismillah, in the name of Allah'; If you're a minor, you need to ask an adult you trust to read this post instead.
Look no further than the death announcement of the person known as Dragoneer, and you'll find folk promptly celebrating due to one small scandal of virtue or another. None of this compares to the people Preyfar (aka Dragoneer) stood up to, folk who insulate and stop conversations about the Israeli Defense Force's Nakba continuing in Palestine, about the invasion and threats on Ukraine (Feb 4th) which threaten the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant to cause another Chernobyl Disaster as well as the people of Ukraine themselves. He fought those who will turn education about human and reproductive rights into sex crimes. People (like a former president) who have said "Jeffrey Epstein" is a good guy despite being at the center of an international child sex trafficking ring that coerced people in positions of power to becoming his assets and clients. And Dragoneer? He was a kind-hearted, jovial artist (to those who knew him) who was allowed to take over Alkora's FurAffinity project in 2007, as Alkora was already being targeted for scandal. Dragoneer worked internationally as a contractor prior to IMVU's purchase, and in the last ten years, he has fought to keep FurAffinity together despite his own impoverishment.
Dragoneer tried many ways to keep the site going. After FurAffinity was blocked from being paid by the major payment processors, after he changed the content permissions to be ethically and virtuously clean with regards to content and these payment authorizers' tightening rules, and after temporarily allowing IMVU to be in possession of the site's legal entity before Dragoneer purchased it anew, he was without health insurance in Virginia. Virginia, for those of you not aware, has regularly sued people on the USA-funded poverty healthcare option, Medicaid, under claims of bills that should not have been paid. Even though I was familiar with Dragoneer on a first-name basis as he was a long-term acquaintance and friend of mine, Twitter's purchase and gutting by Elon Musk left his reach and visibility erased. I had no idea Dragoneer, my friend, was suffering from a life threatening condition for months, and was repeatedly being failed and deferred by healthcare providers he saw. Of course he would be, when you know doctors also need to be paid by a healthcare system founded on austerity and punitive lawsuits against needy peoples. (This is compared to the President Donald administration getting paid to forcibly sterilize undocumented refugees and migrants. I don't have the link about my Medicaid claim right now.)
And so, Dragoneer died last night. I had found out at 4am, because my complex household needs means I was up at 1:30am. (You'd think merely 'being awake' can make praying the Salaat easier, but it doesn't even as a Queer, Trans, and 2022-recently Islamic Muslim.) I am so beside myself with grief, as I am aware my own father needs 24/7 healthcare and care work but can't afford it. He is the same age as the DoorDasher who humbly needed my help to provide our needed groceries (like toilet paper) that we 'financed' on the exploitative APR credit cards we need to get by. Even if my dad has pushed Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer back to its smallest this year, he still needs help to recover his memory. In my house, we are 24/7. So when followers show up with tags like "im_1nside_your_house", or when I am subject to a "Miscreant In the Middle" attack while at the laundromat, I am as ready as I can be on hours of sleep and gratitude from constant prayers.
He didn't need to die. My dad doesn't need to be nickle-and-dimed for healthcare. And people don't need to go broke paying for health insurance for themselves, their dogs, or the life of their land. If you're as angry about this farcical austerity--treating currency bills like they're invaluable and limited-edition collector's items only fit to be horded ala the Panama Papers--then I pray fellow furries like me and Dragoneer can still do something about it.
In his last tweets on TwXtter, you can still see Dragoneer fighting fascists. I'm no expert on fascism, so let me try to summarize it by the line: "Might makes right." This 'might' being people or organizations employing technology (ala "Djinn," "Egregores," or in this case, just corporate bodies and the 'thoughtforms' employees have) exploiting these massive systems of power to create a lie into reality by the fact their power enables it to happen. Why else can some of the most far-right Israelis feel like they're protecting their homeland, when it only exists in the dwindling darkness of ignorance a Hebrew-only state (no Yiddish allowed) birthed in children? This kind of dark enlightenment is still poisoning us today, even as it is one JD Vance advocates for.
And, today, someone from a popular UNDERTALE world record holder's Discord community found one of the other places I am also combating this international system of exploitation: VANtics. If you think I'm against lies being used to control children, which I am, look to your own television, or your YouTube Kids app. Therein, besides Elsagate and the USA's weak attempts to stop this via KOSA, you will find a surreal INTERNATIONAL normality. This normality has existed since before USAian Cigarette Marketing invented marketing: paid commercial advertisements.
VANtics is my hope to reveal that, not only do non-consentual airing of commercial publications exploit the children who might see them, they exploit the children cast within them. You can see Nickelodeon-network scandals regarding content that unnecessarily and unhealthily pushed child actors to pose for scenes that graphically held on their bodily features that were unnecessary to the plot. Am I using more words than a 14 year old might understand? No, as I was a very clever 14 year old who could not dispel the images, their realism, and the intimacy in their performances in these ads. Who could be OK participating like this in an ad for a large audience? Why would this piece of art be made to be aired when I would see it, to plausibly and intentionally shape my thoughts for a lifetime? It's called "Image Marketing" and executives are as aware of this as the Exxon executives were aware of the problems of climate change.
I had no idea this crossover would happen hours after Dragoneer's passing, and continue to expose the internet-wide exploration, presence, and communities I'm a part of. My act of boldly or humbly living my life as a visible trans* person since 2014 has required me to have faith in higher powers, all the way up to a single unifying Creator: as I've survived multiple attacks completely outside of this SansIsSleeping art project. These attacks aren't merely physical violence, but legal, social, economic, and bureaucratic. The fact I am here today is not just because of my faith in One transcendental Creator (Tahwid) keeping all of this order on Earth quietly operating despite chaos. It's because of people like my spouse. It's because of my children who lead and inspire me. It's because of the community members I've met who wonder why commodity fetishism is a normal and accepted marketing tactic for children. It's because of old friends who still continue to commune with me, and other friends who don't hesitate to help with money, or networking, or other aid. It's because of people like Mari who is also facing a similar healthcare and financial crisis like Dragoneer did. It's because of people like atax1a , aka Alex, who inspire me and teach me by xer own dictionary-like addressing of all the space xe hold. This is just like the Bo Burnham special "Inside," tackling this same topic (and the Outtakes which are great): my inside is outside now, and we're entering a world where "Everybody Knows." This even reminds me of the coercive/puppeteering blackmail-like control that I found suggested by lyrics within a music video composed by Toby Fox but I am soon courageous enough to finally witness. This is much like SnowGrave for me, which I had put off for months out of fear I would, again, be haunted ala the Genocide/Ecocidal ending of UNDERTALE. Does "No Mercy" even cut such a story of increasingly consolidated power choices?
I'm in my final days of work on the architecture of Slumberer Sentinels. I don't know if I will have a complete platform architecture drawn out before I begin, but this is another one of this era's "clarion call" attempts. Just like Tim Berners-Lee believes in a decentralized web rescuing us from this terrorism-technology panopticon, I believe a universal networked system state that Slumberer Sentinels can provide open-source would be an open book all of you can read and teach me from, as the next generation and current generation of experts.
Yes, I'm weird. But I understand consent enough now to refuse power being proof of consent. Perhaps might can create the lie of what is right, but informed/FRIES consent is mightier. Like my welcome new Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz says: it's weird to have this power and say these wrong, revisionist things about living beings. It's beyond weird, it's wrong to claim ability to divine who at our scale deserves to die and live. That's not our job, we need enough of us fools and all living beings alive long enough to learn an unforgettable lesson. We are already living in a time of Genocide, of Nakba.
What are YOU doing?
You're reading this? Thank you. Preyfar, may Ar Rahman Ar Raheem, the Most Gracious and Most Merciful be pleased, and peace be upon you.

A List Of The Corniest Things Drake Has Ever Done
We may earn a commission from links on this page.
It’s no secret that Drake is a massive cornball. The Canadian rapper, whose debut album “Thank Me Later” was released in 2010, has changed the way hip hop has affected the masses. Sadly, it’s not in a good way. Kendrick Lamar’s new Drake diss song, “euphoria,” called out the way the “For All The Dogs” artist has made a mockery of Black American culture—and  we have the proof.
Here’s a list of the corniest sh*t Drizzy has ever done.
Blackness in your inbox daily. Subscribe to The Root.
Using AI Tupac On “Taylor Made Freestyle”
Drake really thought he was onto something when he employed AI to emulate of voices of the late Tupac Shakur and the very much alive Snoop Dogg on “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The track, which he deleted after Tupac estate’s threatened Drake with legal action, took aim at Kendrick Lamar and begged him to respond to the 4 minute debacle. Drizzy also insisted Taylor Swift was the reason Kendrick was taking his time, reminding us that he deserved every insult in “euphoria.”
Joking About Tory Lanez Shooting On “Circo Loco”
On his 2022 track “Circo Loco” alongside 21 Savage, Drake referened Tory Lanez shooting Megan Thee Stallion back in 2020 by rapping: “This b*tch lie about getting shots, but she still a stallion / She don’t even get the joke but she still smiling.” There’s nothing funny about violence against Black women, but Meg said it best when she commented: “Stop using my shooting for clout b*tch a** n***a!”
Referencing Slavery On “Slime You Out”
Last year, Drake released his song “Slime You Out” featuring SZA which would appear on his most recent album “For All The Dogs.” In addition to using Halle Berry on the track’s cover art against her wishes, Drake also joked about slavery in the song. “Whipped and chained you like American slaves/Act like you not used to Sheraton stays.” There’s no justification for these egregious lines, but clearly the bar is in hell for Drake.
Wearing Blackface
In his lethal 2018 diss track “The Story of Adidon,” Pusha T not only read Drake for his entire life but used a shocking 2007 photo of the Canadian emcee in blackface as the song’s cover art. Drizzy attempted to explain the image on his Instagram Story.  “I was working on a project that was about young Black actors struggling to get roles, being stereotyped and type cast. The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment.” All we have to say is: blackface is never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever justifiable.
Buying Tupac’s Jewelry
Last year, Drake purchased a ring designed by the late Tupac Shakur for just over a $1 million (its presale estimate was valued between $200,000-$300,000). He debuted the ring on his Instagram and wore it in interviews. If this isn’t one of the biggest examples of Drake’s culture vulture cosplay, we don’t know what is.
Hiding A Child
On Pusha T’s 2018 scorched earth Drake diss track,  “The Story Of Adidon,” he alerted the world that Drake had a secret child. He had privately fathered a son named Adonis with former adult film actress  Sophie Brussaux. The revelation that Drake was a deadbeat father forced the emcee to start showing his child more — but it was sad that it came to that.
Working With Morgan Wallen
When Morgan Wallen was caught saying racial slurs on camera in 2021, he publicly apologized and had his music pulled from radio stations and Country Music Television. Of course, that didn’t stop him for staging a comeback, headlining tours and becoming one of the most streamed artists in 2023. For reasons no one will ever understand, Drake featured Wallen in his “You Broke My Heart” video last year.
Petty Rihanna Snub
While on tour earlier this year, Drake showed just how petty he can be. During a show in Tampa, Fla. he refused to perform his hit song with his ex Rihanna entitled “Work” — even though he played a clip of it onstage. As it played, Drake remarked: “I don’t sing this song anymore. You can sing it for me.” This is peak cornball behavior.
Keeping Serena’s Name In His Mouth
On his joint 2022 project with 21 Savage entitled “Her Loss,” Drake couldn’t help from bringing up his ex Serena Williams on the track “Middle of The Ocean.” He rapped: “Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie/He claim we don’t got a problem but/No, boo, it is like you comin’ for sushi.” Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, fired back at the rapper.
“The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter,” he wrote on X/Twitter.
Rumored Plastic Surgery
Though Drake loves posting shirtless photos on his social media, fans have speculated for a while that he’s had plastic surgery. Rick Ross has stated Drake got a BBL, Megan Thee Stallion has alluded to certain rappers having scars from getting work done and even Kendrick implored Drizzy to share where he got his abs from.
Being A Video Vixen
Over the last year, Drake has appeared in two Sexyy Red videos: “Rich Baby Daddy” and “Get It Sexyy.” He has pathetically embraced the role of being a video vixen and on “euphoria” Kendrick addressed this trend: “When I see you stand by Sexyy Red, I believe you see two bad b**ches/I believe you don’t like women/It’s real competition/You might pop a** with ‘em.
Fake Jamaican Accent
For years, Drake has done his best to imitate Jamaican accents. Some call it a fake patois, but ultimately it’s just disrespectful. Fans heard him do his infamous impression on songs like Popcaan’s “We Caa Done” and his “On The Radar” freestyle with Central Cee.
Michael Jackson Comparison
In 2023, Drake tied Michael Jackson for the most number one singles in Billboard chart history. He celebrated the milestone on Instagram as well on his song “First Person Shooter” with J.Cole. Drake rapped: “N***as talkin’ ‘bout when this gon’ be repeated/What the f**k, bro? I’m one away from Michael/N***a, beat it.”
In the video for the track, Drake dressed like the late music icon and attempted to do a Michael Jackson dance. Drizzy just needs to have several seats — forever.

When did you get so big?
tags: sfw, gender dysphoria, trans male character, ot8 but i.n focus, everything is platonic, fluffy & soft but also kinda sad idk i'm not good at tagging
description: Jeongin is trans, he tries to hide his struggles from the members most of the time but sometimes its just too hard.
link to ao3: here
!!Everything written here is fiction, not meant to be taken as real life, if anything here makes you uncomfortable please just block & move on!!
Jeongin is trans, all the members know that and have for a long time. When he was a trainee all the boys found out at different times, but they were all supportive just the same.
Especially Chan.
Chan has always been there for Jeongin during his bad dysphoria days and was there for all the good moments too. He was there to comfort Jeongin when he came out to the other members, he was there when Jeongin started testosterone, and when he got his legal name change.
Jeongin isn’t one to show often when the dysphoria gets to him, he hides it, so he doesn’t feel like an inconvenience to the others. He knows he can deal with it by himself, so he does. The other members can usually spot when he’s having a hard day, but they know to let him deal with it in his own way. If he really wants comfort, he’ll find them when he needs it.
Today has been harder than usual though. Long schedules, tiring performances, and lots of people constantly rushing around them all. It’s exhausting. Jeongin had been put in a tighter outfit, one that was a little more uncomfortable than usual, a little more revealing too, which was a set up for disaster already.
They only had one more recording to do for the day, it was their Music Core stage, and Chan could already tell Jeongin wasn’t gonna be able to handle much more
“Are you ok baby?” Chan whispers to Jeongin “mhm. Don’t worry about me” Jeongin smiles big back at Chan “Are you sure? You look a little uncomfortable” Chan says as Jeongin starts to pull at his outfit again “I’m fine hyung. Promise. 😊” “Ok…” Chan didn’t fully believe Jeongin but he decided to let it go and hope he’d come ask for help if he needed it.
*After filming*
“You did so well Innie!” Felix says while jumping around him Jeongin gave a small smile to Felix but was obviously struggling and very anxious.
Everyone started heading back to the dressing rooms and getting their makeup and stage outfits off getting ready to go home.
Everyone is sitting around different spots of the dressing room, Hyunjin is sitting in the window drawing, Seungmin is on the floor in a corner just listening to music, Minho & Jisung are sitting at a table watching some new anime, but the trio that caught Chan’s eye was Jeongin sitting in the corner spot of the couch with Felix in front of him and Changbin next to him. Lix & Binnie were obviously chattering and excited while poking at Jeongin and teasing him, not even noticing how nervous and upset Jeongin looked. Chan took a seat on the other end of the couch deciding to let Jeongin handle himself, besides he’s an adult now, he doesn’t need big brother Chan stepping in always, right?
“Can you guys sit anywhere else? I’m trying to watch something” Jeongin says clearly irritated “Aww but we wanna hang out with baby Innie!” Lix giggles “pleaseee let us stay?” Changbin whines
Jeongin just stays silent obviously not wanting to argue
“Can we watch too?” Felix asks “No. you guys just need to find something else to do.” Jeongin says very irritated “We wanna hang out with you though baby” Changbin says while wrapping his arm around Jeongin’s waist and trying to pull him closer “Let go” Jeongin says much stricter than before “We’re just teasing honey, it's all jokes” Felix says softly “STOP! I told you to leave me alone and you still won’t stop” Jeongin yelled. He immediately stood up and walked out of the dressing room
Everyone in the room was quiet until Felix stood up to follow after Jeongin
“Lixie leave him alone for a bit” Jisung suggests “No, I have to go apologize. We were being rude” Felix says in a serious tone “Love, just leave him be, ok?” Hyunjin softly grabs Felix’s wrist before he can leave
Felix slowly sits down in Hyunjin’s lap, obviously very upset.
Changbin looked very anxious as well, neither one meaning to truly upset Jeongin.
Chan waits a few minutes before walking out to go find Jeongin
Jeongin has a few hiding spots everywhere they go regularly, dark corners, quiet spots outside, even small closets if he can’t find anywhere else. Just anywhere that doesn’t have many people, lights, or noises. So, Chan immediately knows where to find him. He starts walking downstairs from the dressing room and keeps going until he gets to the back corner of one of the waiting rooms. Immediately he sees something on the floor that looks like a pile of clothes and quickly realizes its Jeongin that has tucked himself into his hoodie
“Baby?” Chan says softly
All he gets in response is some sniffles and quick breathing
“Jeonginnie?”
Jeongin slowly pokes his head out of his hoodie, eyes red and swollen with tears still coming down his face
“Hi love” Chan slowly sits down on the floor next to Jeongin “Hyung I’m sorry” Jeongin cries “Sorry for what baby?” “Sorry I yelled at Lix and Changbin…” “No no lovely they’re not mad at you at all don’t worry. They’re both sorry they kept bothering you.”
Jeongin scoots closer to Chan slowly, so Chan starts to wrap his arm around Jeongin’s shoulder until Jeongin flinches and Chan takes his arm away
“Baby whats goin on? You never get this upset just when lix and binnie tease you like that” “You guys really think of me like a baby brother, right?” “Of course, Innie, you’re our baby brother always. What makes you think we don’t? Did someone say something that made you think that?” “No… just feeling bad again.”
Chan was used to comforting Jeongin during his bad times with dysphoria. When he was a trainee, it was much worse and happened a lot more often but even now he still has hard and bad days, so of course Chan is still there for him no matter what.
“Do you wanna talk more about what you’re feeling or do you just wanna sit here quietly?” “I don’t know… I hate feeling like this. I feel trapped in my own body all the time. Nothing looks right or sounds right or feels right and I hate it. No matter how hard I try it still feels wrong. I even feel jealous of you guys getting the things I want. Which I’m sure makes me a terrible person…”
Hearing Jeongin sound so sad and defeated made Chan’s heart hurt so bad. Jeongin was one of his first members and his youngest so he feels a huge need to take care of him and protect him so when he can’t do anything to help it feels horrible.
“No no baby you are a wonderful person, don’t ever believe any different please. I’m sorry you have to deal with feeling all this, I wish I could just take it all away and you could feel comfortable always.”
Jeongin starts to cry again and crawls into Chan’s lap
“When did you get so big? I can’t even hug you now…”
Hearing that just makes Jeongin cry more
"Oh baby I didn't mean to upset you more. I'll always hug you and hold you anytime you want." Chan says softly "I know. It's still hard to grow bigger than my oldest hyung..." Jeongin says quietly
After some time in silence Jeongin speaks up
“I wanna go back and apologize to Felix and Changbin” “Lovely you don’t have to apologize to them” “I want to though.” Jeongin says much calmer and more relaxed than earlier
They both stood up and started back to the dressing room while holding hands
As soon as they open the door to the dressing room Jeongin gets attacked by Felix with hugs and apologies
“I’m sorry Innie we should’ve listened to you; we didn’t mean to make you upset and hurt you” Felix says it all so fast he’s not even sure everyone understood what he was saying “It’s ok hyung, I’m not mad at you or Changbin hyung. I'm sorry for yelling.”
Changbin walks over and puts his hand on Jeongin’s shoulder
“We really are sorry Jeongin-ah, we should’ve stopped when you said to stop.”
Finally, everyone finishes packing up and makes plans for dinner and other activities they wanna do after work.
Chan walks over to Jeongin and quietly nudges his arm
“You wanna come over for movies and ice cream tonight? Might help you feel better. You can borrow one of my bigger hoodies too if you want.” “What kind of ice cream?” “Anything you want, even special milkshakes. I’ll find it for you.” “I want chocolate ice cream… and cookies.” “And cookies??” “Hyung don’t be mean.” “I wasn’t being mean; I was surprised you wanted both. But of course, I’ll get you both.”
They all load up in the vans with Jeongin going to 3racha+Hyunjin’s dorm for the night and the other 3 getting in the other van heading to their own dorm. Chan asking the manager to stop so he can hop out and get ice cream and cookies for Jeongin
When they get to the dorms Chan gets ice cream, cookies, and an oversized hoodie for Jeongin while they try to figure out what movie to watch. They finally decide on a studio Ghibli movie and plop down on the couch.
Of course, almost immediately the other 3 members in the dorm ask to join them for the movie, Chan & Jeongin say yes so Han & Hyunjin set themselves on the floor while Changbin sits in one of the chairs behind them
Chan and Jeongin snuggle themselves together on the couch while eating ice cream and cookies
“Feeling better baby?” Chan whispers to Jeongin “A little, still uncomfortable but I’m happy you guys help me.” “I’m glad you’re happy lovely”
After the movie ends Chan looks around the room and sees Han & Hyunjin curled up on the floor together sleeping, Changbin in his chair asleep, and he notices Jeongin is also asleep while curled into Chan. He can’t help but smile at how happy his kids make him. He decides that the couch might be a little uncomfortable for Jeongin all night, so he very carefully picks him up and carries him to his room and gently sets him down in bed and tucks him in, quickly gives him a kiss on the forehead and quietly walks out of the room.
Turns out he can still hold his baby after all.

the day y'all share your sources with me will be the day hell freezes over, honestly. where are all those interviews? share a link, pal? // the day you realize stating facts isn’t “hate” will be the day hell freezes over. Here are the sources and links, pal. Most of them posted by yourself. Don’t you read her interviews or what you post? You posted that screenshot of Amanda’s post yourself. You must be new and don’t remember the days Louise blocked people who commented about her real name being Pauline and being from the south. I guess you just have to accept that sometimes some people’s lives and personalities aren’t as shiny and cool as you want it to be. You have to accept that you can like someone’s work but still admit they’re not who you expect them to be. I don’t hate Louise, I enjoy listening to some of her songs because they can be quite enjoyable, but I’m also aware of that side of her that you and her so called fans keep denying. Not gonna get started on so many other aspects of her and her life cause you clearly don’t like to reason and don’t even bother remembering what she said in her interviews, asking me to share links as if I’ve made stuff up and now I’m gonna fail providing you with sources. Again, this is not “hate”, just facts & things that exist. Such is life, pal.

thank you, wasn't that hard now, was it? nobody said you made shit up, i was asking for sources? i have a life of my own, i don't have the goddamn time to memorize every single thing i post & read -- especially when it's an interview from 2-3 years ago; no matter how much i like someone or not. i'm not that obsessed. i still think that being shy in some areas doesn't mean that a person can't talk a lot or be extroverted in other aspects (especially when around people she knows/is comfortable with, like amanda). she's been saying she's shy in some form or other for the last ten years now. that same interview (beware) where she says she's 'extroverted' is also the same one where she says she felt shy about performing her songs/lyrics on stage. there's literally an article from her 'the voice' days (2012) where it's said her legal name is pauline, she's answered questions about it in interviews, it has never been a secret (that same quote that started this whole discussion is literally about her creating the 'character' of 'louise verneuil'). idk what some of you guys' issue is with her using a stage name. are y'all all in lana del rey's & lady gaga's comments like this as well? are you reminding elton john every five minutes that his birth name is reginald? she's also talked about being from the south. maybe it's the tone in which you guys leave these comments that makes her block you? like why are you so pressed about this? who cares? she's not a criminal for creating a stage persona (so many artists do) or giving different answers/changing over the years. i could've sworn many years ago harry styles either said he'd never go solo or go into acting (one of the two or maybe both) & look at him now. are you calling harry styles out for his answers as well (now i'm not a fan nor do i go on his fan pages, but i'm very positive that no one is leaving asks about how his answers have changed over the years). & if she wants to block someone then that's her right, it's her account. she hasn't hurt anyone with her name or saying she's actually multi-faceted & has more than one characteristic. why does this bother you so much? why are you letting her have such an affect on you?

Calacus Monthly Hit & Miss – The FA & Amir Khan
Every month we look at the best and worst communicators in the sports world from the last few weeks.
HIT - THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION & THE ALZHEINMER’S SOCIETY
So much has been written in recent years about the risks of brain injury caused by head impacts in rugby and latterly by football.
A number of high profile deaths has prompted concerns about the long-term health of footballers who head the ball regularly.
Former England and West Bromwich Albion and England striker, Jeff Astle, died of dementia in 2002, aged just 59 with a coroner ruling that he was killed by his work as a footballer having scored a large number of headed goals.
Since then, a number of former footballers have been diagnosed with, or died of, dementia, and many of them have had that diagnosis linked to their careers.
Former Leeds and England defender Jack Charlton died in 2020 while Nobby Stiles died in 2020 and Ray Wilson in 2018 – all suffering from dementia. Jack’s brother, Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, is also a sufferer.
No wonder a group of former football, rugby league and rugby union players have been taking legal action claiming they suffered brain injuries playing their respective sports including relatives of Stiles.
Some research undertaken by the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, published in the Lancet Public Health journal, found that footballers are 50% more likely to develop dementia than the rest of the population.
Its research found that 8.3 per cent of outfield footballers were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, compared to 5.1 per cent of the control group.
The study compared the health records of 6,000 elite footballers and more than 56,000 non-footballers between 1924 and 2019 and suggested that outfield footballers were 50 per cent more likely to develop dementia than the rest of the population.
The data shows concerning trends, so it is no surprise that in England, the Football Association is trialling banning children under 12 from heading the ball in certain grassroots competitions and leagues. If successful, it will apply to the International Football Association Board for a law change to remove heading for under-12s altogether.
Brain injury charity Headway criticised UEFA for not allowing concussion substitutes in the Women's Champions League after Arsenal and England's Beth Mead suffered a head injury against Ajax.
Luke Griggs, Headway’s chief executive, said: “It is important that football is willing to evolve as our understanding of the long-term implications of repeated sub-concussive impacts increases.
“We know enough now to make balanced, sensible adjustments to limit exposure to head impacts.” This includes “limiting of heading practice drills for adults, and complete bans on children heading the ball as they move through key stages in their physical and neurological development,” he added.
Perhaps, then, the official charity partnership between England’s Football Association and dementia charity The Alzheimer’s Society is a natural fit.
Recent activity around the England Lionesses’ match against Australia, to raise awareness and funds for dementia research and support by encouraging fans to donate, share their memories, and wear blue in support of the cause was executed brilliantly.
An estimated 850,000 people live with dementia in the UK (the writer also lost his Mum to dementia a few years ago), which is likely to increase to above 1 million by 2025.
By using the power of sport to drive positive social change, the campaign was able to create a sense of shared purpose and belonging among fans and players alike.
Most notably, players on both the England and Australia teams played without names on a third of their shirts to highlight the fact that one in three people could forget the name of their favourite player or treasured football memory.
Different players wore the nameless shirts after half-time, to further draw attention to the confusion and memory loss often experienced by those living with dementia, before being auctioned.
Fans were encouraged to engage with the stunt using the hashtag #TheForgottenThird.
Kate Lee, Alzheimer’s Society CEO, said: “Right now, there are too many people facing dementia alone and without the right support.  With The FA’s backing and support, we can reach more people than ever before, and we can reach them sooner.
“The sport has an unrivalled ability to bring people and communities together, which is why we’re asking fans up and down the country to get behind this important cause and donate whatever they can, so no-one must face dementia alone.
“We hope by making this simple alternation with this gesture and getting both teams to show a sign of solidarity, we can put an important spotlight on just how much dementia can devastate lives.
“I hope it makes a massive impact from the stands to screens, inspiring people to donate so we can reach even more people with our life-changing support, which helps people through some of the hardest and most frightening times.”
Ahead of the game, 11-year-old Eve interviewed the Lionesses to discuss what football means to them and their experiences with dementia.
The international fixture was hosted at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium and saw the unveiling of a striking mural by sports correspondent Carrie Brown.
The large-scale art installation, designed and created by MurWalls, captured key moments of England Women’s football with fans being encouraged to add their most unforgettable memories to the mural.
England coach Sarina Wiegman said: “Tonight was a chance for both sets of players to come together in recognition of the many people living with dementia and their families and friends who help them.
“I’m very proud to see our players again continue to use their platform to show support for important causes – I hope it inspires fans to donate and support Alzheimer’s Society’s important work.”
The social impact of the campaign, however, was significant. Over the past two seasons, the partnership has raised over £400,000, with thousands more fans, players and staff now knowing where to go to access vital dementia support.
The Alzheimer Society has created a sense of community and purpose around the cause, inspiring thousands of football fans to donate, share their stories, and engage with the issue of dementia in a meaningful way.
MISS – AMIR KHAN
Calacus had the pleasure of working with Amir Khan, who was supporting one of our clients, a few years ago.
Polite, helpful and professional, he was great with the attending media and helpful at every turn.
His boxing career speaks for itself. Khan unified world titles at super-lightweight and faced pound-for-pound stars Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Terence Crawford during a 40-fight career featuring 34 wins and six defeats.
He has also undertaken a great deal of charity work, launching his own Foundation supporting local business in his hometown of Bolton and disasters in the Philippines and the Indian Ocean Tsunami.
But Khan’s life has also been shrouded in controversy – with his private life being a popular topic for the tabloid newspapers as well as accusations regarding possible homophobic language and an armed robbery that saw Khan lose his expensive watch in East London last year.
In what proved to be his last fight, Khan lost to Kell Brook in the sixth round of their hotly anticipated bout in Manchester in February 2023.
Soon afterwards, he announced his retirement. "It's time to hang up my gloves," Khan, who turned professional in 2005, said on Twitter.
However, with the court case ongoing after the armed robbers were caught, Khan suffered a huge blow to his reputation when the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) banned him from all sport for two years.
The statement from UKAD Chief Executive Jane Rumble read: “This case serves as a reminder that UKAD will diligently pursue Anti-Doping Rule Violations in order to protect clean sport.
“Strict liability means Athletes are ultimately responsible for what they ingest and for the presence of any Prohibited Substances in a Sample. It is important that all Athletes and their support personnel, whatever level they are competing at, take their anti-doping responsibilities seriously. Not doing so risks damaging not only an Athlete’s career, but also undermining public confidence in clean sport.”
Khan had been informed that after his fight with Brook, samples had produced an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for ostarine and after a hearing and an independent tribunal, despite proving that his usage was unintentional, Khan was suspended retrospectively.
In reality, while it has an impact on his sporting integrity – albeit minimal because of the small trace of ostarine in his system – his reputation has taken an unexpected knock.
UKAD’s statement indicated that Khan was aware of the verdict in late February this year, although they waited until early April to make the news public.
Armed with that information, Khan should have had a statement prepared explaining his version of events up to and including the ban – and kept in closer contact with UKAD to ascertain when the news was being released.
His failure to do that meant that a scheduled interview on Sky News with Kay Burley was hastily cancelled – while he was already getting ready in the studio.
Without the support of PR advisers, it gave the impression that Khan was blindsided by the timing of the announcement and unprepared when it came out.
Khan had the opportunity at Sky News to calmly give his side of the story – which he could and should have mentally prepared for in the weeks after discovering the UKAD verdict, let alone in the months since his adverse sample had been discovered.
There are occasionally times when “no comment” is the best approach, although those are increasingly rare given the media’s ability to either find alternative experts or use the ‘empty chair’ tactic to add further humiliation to a story.
But if Khan had been advised and supported properly, he could have addressed the situation head-on, with confidence and a clear message which both explained what had happened and what he planned to do about it.
As it was, he was ambushed by another Sky camera crew outside the Sky studios at Millbank, appearing to want to get away and then giving a confused and half-baked explanation which did more harm than good.
There was no manager, nor a PR adviser to support him and the fact that he said that he would write a statement shows how little thought had gone into dealing with this.
During his interview, Khan said: “I never cheated. I’m a retired fighter. At the same time you can see by my performance, my performance against Kell Brook wasn’t the best, I lost the fight. If I went in and knocked Kell Brook out it’s different.
“I’ve never cheated in my life. I’m the one who wanted the testing on the fight and also the amount that was in my system could have been by shaking people’s hand.
“I don’t know what drug was in my system. I’m a retired fighter so I’ve got a two-year ban now it’s quite strange and funny that they’ve rang me, I’m already retired anyway. No comeback plans at all but I’ve never cheated and I never will, that’s not something I would do.”
Promoter Ben Shalom, whose company Boxxer was representing Khan at the time of the Brook fight, admitted that he had no idea about the doping offence or subsequent tribunal.
“I called the board [British Boxing Board of Control] today when I saw it on social media and said, ‘Do you know about this?’ and they said, ‘I only found out yesterday,'” Shalom said.
“We didn’t even know there was a process. We didn’t even know [Khan] failed a test. It’s completely insane. And it’s dangerous.
“There should be no getting out of failing a drug test. It doesn’t matter whether it’s intentional, doesn’t matter what it was. That’s it. A strict liability ban. And it needs to be governed by a world governing body not multiple different people having different opinions with different rules. It is just communication and it’s bullshit. I’m shocked.”
Khan may have had no plans to return to the ring, but he could have minimised the damage to his reputation caused by this doping offence simply by having the foresight to prepare for the inevitable media interest when the story broke.
His initial response further underlines the importance of preparation for every scenario rather than wait until bad news comes out.
Notably, later that week, Khan did a sit-down interview with Sky Sports, having clearly taken the time to do the preparatory work which should have happened way earlier.
During the interview he said: “I don't know how it got into my system, maybe shaking hands, maybe sharing a drink with somebody. It was a big shock to me.
"It's such a tiny amount that was never of any benefit at all. I don't know how it got in there but I should've maybe taken a little bit more precaution. I'm very sorry about it.
“I can honestly say that I've always been a clean fighter. I've always been the type of person who's always asked to be drug tested.
“I don't want to be remembered for something like this, that'll hurt me a lot. If people remember me for just this incident that's happened then I think it'll always upset me because I know it was never done on purpose.
“Hopefully people believe me and maybe take more precaution, especially the young and upcoming fighters can learn from me how mistakes can happen.”
Time will tell whether the label of ‘drug cheat’ is used in reference to Khan, undoing so much of the good he has done for society and the sport of boxing.
His initial shambolic response to the drugs verdict revelations underlines further the need for crisis communications preparation.
Being reactive instead of proactive sets the narrative tone which is often tough to recover from.

@wickedcitrus (tag referring to the poll option where i had a play i wrote preformed in front of an audience)
Tumblr media
ok so. i live in a small-to-mid-sized town with a really active theater community. We have like 2 different really good community theater companies that, alongside putting on regular plays, hold some smaller events throughout the year. for a few years, one of these theater companies hosted a 10 minute play competition, where people could write and submit plays to possibly be preformed (with prize money depending on how you placed). I think they changed it recently to have more plays preformed with more categories, but when it started, only about... six or eight plays got picked? the top three or four would be given a full performances, and the rest only got stage read. either way, all the chosen plays were handed off to different directors who picked who was going to preform/read, and people bought tickets to the actual event where the plays were preformed. After the stage readings were done, the audience could vote on which they liked best and that play would be given a stage performance the next year
Two of the plays I wrote got selected- the first year i submitted a play i just got a stage reading (and didn't get the audience choice), and it was kiiinda awkward since one of the performed plays was literally just the same concept as mine. pretty sure the other one got first place too lol
but the SECOND one i did for the next one they held actually did get performed- i got second place that year!! it was fucking BONKERS since like. i think i was like 16 maybe? and every single other person who placed were grown adults, including people who wrote in and traveled from like 5 hours away from a bigger city to enter?? like. people actually planning on going into playwriting???
so yes anyways. the play was about a guy trying to order from a white castle but in the process accidentally went through a time portal and wound up in an Actual Castle where he gets imprisoned for witchcraft because of his smartphone. there's a recording of it on youtube but im not going to link it since it has both my full legal name and the theater company has my home county in the name and id rather not doxx myself lol
maybe if i have time ill download and cut the recording to remove all the identifying shit and just post it here directly?? idk. its like a 240p video and also it is so so so SO hard for me to sit through my old kinda bad attempts at writing dialogue, but the video is kind the only way id be able to share it since ive since lost the script i wrote :c

OLD DOG, OLD TRICKS / background
cookie cutter poise. it’s the little intricacies about finely shaped lines, carved out of dough to produce the perfect picture — yet, the way he looks, introspection’s a bitch. a closer look, and he sees the marred edges of perfection that get baked when put into the sun. it’s how life’s always been. a mom, a dad. a regular 9 to 5 family somewhere in pangyo. an older sister who spends each beck and call being the shattered mirror of what he’s supposed to be — put together, highly educated and tied together with a ribbon of vain.
but he gets it.
it’s the desperation of clawing your way through the trowels of the lower class, finding some speckle of hope along the way. the desperation of his parents’ past just become the hallowing echoes that he’d find his way in complacency. boring, plain, square — safe. yet, years pass and he’s still up to the same routine: wake up, skip school. find some corner store with friends, creating rhymes and martyred beats along the small nooks of the local PC room filled with the tinges of half-lit cigarette smoke. rinse, wash, repeat. a cycle that stays the same for many years till mom’s three little words become a hardened reality.
“we’re sending you to live in america.”
complacency’s a funny thing. the hard rewiring of your brain, and the subtle patterns of day-to-day now gone without a trace. (he passes his time by assimilating to the new unknown the only way he knows how — music, lyrics, daydreams.) korea feels like a fever dream, and he’s been martyred as the family stain, led to bleed dry.
mom sends her well wishes, and dad sends the yearly happy birthday. sister’s too busy with her own life, jaeyoon’s a distant thought. yearly visits to korea, he feels further isolated — a foreigner in either country. a quick cash grab for the homestay family — his face synonymous with lazy dinners and half-assed holidays. jaeyoon’s primed by now not to complain, not to utter a word. Instead, escapism comes in the form of smatterings spilled across the pages of his journal (loneliness is a hallow echo.)
a night of weakness, he calls home. “let me come home, please?”
his parents fold.
there’s an attempt at normalcy, but old habits die hard. hindsight is 20/20, and rose tinted optimism fragments when he’s back into the old tresses of used cigarettes, old friends, and a void of motivation. another threat, his eyes fall back and grumblings of a sigh escape his mouth.
but like fate, he finds his asylum.
one business card becomes his golden ticket, a one-way shot he makes with a dimpled pretty face. (tells mom, “bye.” a one-way decision, and by now, she’s too tired and brittle.)
too bad it doesn`t last long, and like the cycle goes — rinse, wash, repeat.
he sheds the marred crutch of the black sheep for the puppeteering strings bounded to his shoulders. pull up, he dances. pull down, he sings. yank side to side, he raps. music storylines don’t see eye to eye, and he becomes a mere piece they place their threats on — do this, you debut. do this, you don’t.
but see, humans are funny creatures. they’re hardwired by the heavy tactics of pattern generation. one stimulus linked to another, and he’s hardwired to believe: he’ll always fuck up. you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. slowly in the night, he reverts back to becoming human once more. clinks of drinks to wash away the hardened criticisms of the day in tandem with the drawl of the cigarette on his lips. a rose veil that washes his face with the beginnings of love. (click click, someone’s taking pictures).
like a draw of the hat, he’s chosen. this time, maybe he won’t fuck up. he hopes, can pride himself on coaxing himself into swallowing that this time he’d be a changed man. (freud’s laughing somewhere far away).
a minor threat comes in anonymously. one hard knock on the door a few days prior to the taste of freedom, and suddenly, he becomes shackled once more: “because you can’t explain these pictures, you’re not debuting.”
but there’s a silver lining, always. like the plasticity of human resilience. (or, maybe — he just amounts to nothing more than a pretty face). midas throws him the key: keep it in your hand safely, without temptation to unlock your own chain. then, maybe — we’ll show us the benevolence of irony tucked within human nature.he shows his own cards, learning to stand a bit taller with the puppet strings pulling on his back. two years later, he’s free.
002: image.
phaze sets the scene, instant success.
the rubble sets in after his own aftermath, and suddenly — jaeyoon’s building on sand. the pretty face does some dent that lingers after the tempest storm.
pretty boy, what a waste of talent.
he should’ve been in phaze
does he have dirt on the company?is that how he debuted alone?
let’s support him the best as we can!
it’s a walking hill he builds upon — one step forward, two steps back. the initial debut of an “idol rapper” becomes a stain on his own memory. now tied against the artistic liberation of his own volition, he tucks his chin down and goes by the movements. his songs get shoved to the back burner in lieu of “trendy” beats, loveless lyrics.
(sit dog, dog gets a treat).
he gets his praises in the form of freedom. little speckles of his own works thrown into the songs. it’s reverting back to that childlike innocence he’s lost, and he stays complacent with the settings he’s given. days pass, and the music earnings make him more akin to a soundcloud rapper than a given idol. the tempest waters of the company brews a storm when he becomes nothing more than a “minus-profit” for them. jaeyoon learns to keep afloat, toying with the music inside the studio.
his music: slow-moving, sing-song melodies that shed light into the pages created during late night drunken dazes. their music: happy-go-lucky, sing-song idol rapper. there’s no in-between, and joo jaeyoon becomes stuck in limbo.
2022 comes, and somewhere amongst the chaos of promotions, he learns to love again. he learns to lose himself to someone else, become engulfed in the suffocating love that it swallows him whole. but like a fall breeze, the love falls short, warm, then suddenly cold. caught by midas, it ends — he learns to rewire and redefine heartbreak. the palpable, visceral feeling rendering him numb at the end of each day. she paints him blue.
motivation falls, and he’s in the gray area of a walking zombie, left for dead on an island that feels more like a day-to-day mirage. desperation comes at a dead-end when he’s begging for a final adieu. they craft their own armistice, and he stands with both hands high in the air — no bite, no bark. it’s all tied together with the shift into rememberme.
his pain becomes midas’ treasure. a comment section filled with english words — a global market avenue. maybe, just maybe. there’s a glimmer of hope: this dog can be best in show.
they market him with this new found creative freedom with traces of the happy-go-lucky rapper. a greedy cash grab, and suddenly it’s a new homestay family he’s found. (dip your toes in the american market, don’t forget home). a mysterious boy, clean background, with a tendency to have fun.
fans slowly grow to love him, but he’s still lost in translation.

About the recognition, Sexton said, "I’m thrilled to have been named amongst these incredible LGBTQIA+ leaders for the second year in a row. People often fail to realize the importance of visibility and representation. These awards aren’t about the momentary personal ‘sugar rush’ of recognition. Rather they demonstrate to the business community the essential value of celebrating those willing - and brave enough - to integrate the personal and professional sides of their lives. And more importantly, to talk about it. As a young gay man in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, such a list would have given me far greater confidence that there would be a place for me in this world. I’m grateful – and hopeful – that I in turn can serve some small role in helping send that message to the #LGBTQIA+ community today.”

On Monday, former Fox News host and right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson released an interview with billionaire and X owner Elon Musk. At the 19-minute mark of the 108-minute-long interview, Carlson takes a break to talk about one of the show’s paid partners, the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation. Carlson then goes on to describe something that sounds suspiciously like Project 2025, the Foundation’s highly controversial road map for a second Donald Trump presidency.
The Heritage Foundation, Carlson says, “pulled together a coalition of over 100 right-leaning groups to develop a comprehensive plan for day one that would include detailed policy proposals on the most pressing issues,” and “has also developed a plan to dismantle the deep state that keeps this nonsense going and reclaim this nation from a small group of technocrats that's broken everything.”
Though Carlson does not refer to Project 2025 by name, this language he used in the ad mirrors the text on the Project 2025 website, which says the plan “brought together by over 100 respected organizations from across the conservative movement, to take down the Deep State and return the government to the people.”
Carlson also referenced Project 2025’s personnel program, laid out by former Trump aide John McEntee, meant to ensure that a second administration is staffed with loyalists.
The Tucker Carlson Network did not respond to a request for comment about whether the ad was specifically for Project 2025. The Heritage Foundation did not respond to questions about whether the ad describes Project 2025 or another initiative.
Trump has made efforts to distance himself from Project 2025 after its unpopularity became evident. The Harris campaign has honed in on the extreme nature of Project 2025, highlighting it in multiple ads. After Trump disavowed Project 2025, Paul Dans, director of the Heritage Foundation, said it would be winding the project down.
At the time, Trump campaign spokespeople Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said, “Reports of Project 2025’s demise would be greatly welcomed and should serve as notice to anyone or any group trying to misrepresent their influence with President Trump and his campaign—it will not end well for you.”
Project 2025 would roll back legal protections for women, LGBTQ+ people, and racial minorities; curtail the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s efforts to counter mis- and disinformation; hobble the country’s ability to cut carbon emissions and address climate change; and even abolish the Federal Trade Commission.
The special sponsor link for Carlson’s show leads to a donation page that also does not specifically mention Project 2025 but does call for support to help “end illegal immigration.”
After leaving Fox News, Carlson founded the Tucker Carlson Network, which hosts his show online. Carlson has partnered with X to host his show, though X did not respond to questions about whether the interview with Musk was hosted on X or if the company was a part of putting it together.
In the interview, Musk said that he believes that a Kamala Harris administration would seek to shut down X and said he was “all in” on Trump. On October 5, Musk joined Trump on the campaign trail in Butler, Pennsylvania, where three months ago the former president was the target of an assassination attempt. Musk used his time on stage at the rally to encourage Trump supporters to “vote, vote, vote,” claiming that, should Trump lose, 2024 would be the last election in the United States. Musk repeated this claim during his interview with Carlson.

Why is Assange a limited hangout/controlled opposition? Here are a few reasons:
"- Assange denies 9/11 truth: "I'm constantly annoyed that people are distracted by false conspiracies such as 9/11, when all around we provide evidence of real conspiracies, for war or mass financial fraud."
- He is linked with Cass Sunstein and Alan Dershowitz. Two confirmed globalist elite's.
- He never impugns Israel’s criminal record even though it is long and has surely been distributed to parties who feel great enmity towards the Jewish state.
- He never censures the Rothschilds or the global banking system.
- The Pizzagate psyop originated from WikiLeaks.
- He is a (((MSM))) darling!
WikiLeaks serves the pernicious establishment as a limited hangout/cointelpro to distract, disorientate and deflect attention away from the history shaping events and protected individuals. It is the Hegelian dialectic strategy and contrived Tavistock cybernetics, deployed against the people in order to convince them that the illusion is real. The gullible public perceive WikiLeaks as a noble force of justice and truth but it is in actual fact a honey trap and a psyop to achieve the aforementioned.
WikiLeaks has a 100% accurate track record because it is the mechanism used to dispense inert truth and that which the establishment asserts can pose as no threat to its control. These 'leaks' have the appearance of being significant and ground breaking but never actually result in any substantial change, no big arrests, no illegal wars thwarted, no revolutions ignited, no change to the global system of usury and elitism! Can it really be believed that if Assange and WikiLeaks posed such a significant threat to the status quo that they wouldn't have been dealt with swiftly and permanently long ago, likely even before they became a household name and a constantly promoted news topic?
Most people have never heard of Cass Sunstein and his relationship to Obama and the US establishment, but he was instrumental in the formation of WikiLeaks. Alan Dershowitz is another high profile globalist and has had significant involvement with the US Gov and global oligarchy but he has also represented Assange and WikiLeaks as legal counsel on more than one occasion.
When Assange was ‘evicted’, take note of the '33' on the two pillars (Jachin & Boaz) on the arch to the entrance of the embassy. This is a Masonic signature and statement of involvement.
The book he was holding, ‘Gore Vidal: History of The National Security State & Vidal on America’ was perfectly positioned and framed for the watchful (((press))). To think the police allowed him to remain holding this as he was cuffed is ridiculous. They would have never permitted him to carry this out with him unless in was part of the staged narrative. The author, Gore Vidal was an American writer and political agitator and stood for many of the things that WL and Assange 'claim' to. But as we know, Assange is part of the propaganda apparatus that advances the MIC and surveillance state. Vidal also wrote a novel in 1964 called 'Julian' about a Roman Emperor who stood against the Church in favour of a Jewish resurgence and wished to rebuild the Temple!
The shot of him in the paddy wagon winking and giving the thumbs up was also a blatant show of arrogance, symbolising that it's all one big game and the people have been utterly fooled. He showed no signs of distress or behaviour reflecting what he’d just been through.
It is also highly unlikely that he even spent one night at the embassy. If he is an Intel asset as I contend, then it wouldn’t have been necessary for him to be there permanently. They merely brought him out on the balcony etc. for press appearances and staged the occasional meeting, otherwise he was likely staying at an undisclosed location in comfort. It is worth noting that all embassies in London are connected via a subterranean tunnel network that was installed pre WW2, so squirrelling assets around without detection is achievable.
Another absurdity to this ‘world stage panto’ is all the celebrity visits he received such as Pamela Anderson, Lady GaGa, Vivienne Westwood, Eric Cantona, Eric Schmidt (Google), Nigel Farage, Noam Chomsky, Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore

Tom Everhart: The Artist Behind the Peanuts Legacy
When one hears the name "Charles Schulz," the immediate association is often with the iconic comic strip "Peanuts." But there's another name that is inextricably linked with the legacy of this beloved cartoonist: Tom Everhart. Born on May 21, 1952, in Washington, D.C., Everhart's journey into the world of art and Schulz's universe of Peanuts characters is a tale of talent, friendship, and a deep sense of purpose.
Everhart's formal art education began at the Yale University of Art and Architecture in 1970. After a brief stint at St. Mary's College, he returned to Yale to complete his graduate studies in 1976. Post-graduate studies at the Musee de l'Orangerie in Paris further enriched his artistic sensibilities. But it was his encounter with Schulz's line art style that would change the course of his career.
In 1980, Everhart was introduced to Schulz at his studios in Santa Rosa, California. Despite having no formal education in cartooning, Everhart was tasked with creating Peanuts renderings for Schulz's studios. To prepare, he magnified some of Schulz's strips on a twenty-five-foot wall in his studio, removing the perimeter lines of the cartoon box to focus solely on Schulz's pen stroke. Impressed with Everhart's ability to reproduce his line art, Schulz was eager to collaborate.
Over the years, Everhart created a series of Schulz-inspired paintings, replacing his previous work in 1988. The inspiration for this shift came during a challenging time for Everhart, as he underwent several operations for stage 4 colon/liver cancer. Surrounded by flowers, art books, and stacks of Peanuts comic strips sent by Schulz, Everhart found solace and inspiration in the light streaming into his hospital room.
In 1990, Everhart's Schulz-related work was exhibited at the Louvre in Paris, marking a significant milestone in his career. Subsequent exhibitions in cities like Los Angeles, Montreal, Tokyo, Rome, and New York brought his Schulz-inspired paintings to a global audience. Everhart's works, often derived from Schulz's Peanuts comic strip, are a testament to his deep connection to Schulz's characters and the messages they convey.
In 1991, a legal agreement between Everhart, United Media, and Schulz allowed Everhart to use Schulz's Peanuts characters in his art for "the term of his life." This partnership paved the way for Everhart's continued exploration of Schulz's universe through his unique artistic lens.
In 2000, Everhart's first solo museum show was launched at the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. Following Schulz's passing in 2000, Everhart's connection to the Peanuts legacy took on even greater significance. His ongoing trips between French Polynesia and Venice, California, influenced his work, evident in the luminous color palette that defines many of his paintings.
Everhart's contributions to the Peanuts legacy have been celebrated in various exhibitions and publications, including a solo exhibition at the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California. His dedication to the artwork of Charles Schulz and the collaborative relationship they shared continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
Today, Everhart resides in Venice, California, with his wife Jennifer, who serves as the director of their studio. He remains the only fine artist authorized by both Schulz and Iconix to use subject matter from Schulz's Peanuts strip in his fine art. Through his lectures and artistic endeavors, Everhart ensures that Schulz's characters and messages remain an enduring part of our cultural landscape. The UK Supreme Court’s Landmark Ruling on AI and Patent Law
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a groundbreaking decision that sets a significant precedent in the realm of intellectual property and artificial intelligence, the UK Supreme Court has ruled that an artificial intelligence system cannot be registered as the inventor of a patent. This ruling comes as a climax to a prolonged legal battle waged by American technologist Stephen Thaler, who sought to have his AI system, named DABUS, recognized as the inventor of two patents.
Stephen Thaler’s journey in challenging the traditional boundaries of patent law began with his claim that DABUS autonomously invented a novel food and drink container and a unique type of light beacon. This claim put the existing legal framework to the test, raising critical questions about the evolving role of AI in creative and innovative processes. Thaler’s contention was not merely about the capabilities of DABUS but also touched upon the broader implications of AI’s role in future technological advancements and intellectual property rights.
The UK’s highest court, however, concluded that under the current legislative framework, “an inventor must be a person.” This decision firmly places human agency and creativity at the center of the patent law system, delineating clear boundaries between human and machine-generated inventions. The ruling reinforces the notion that despite their advanced capabilities, AI systems like DABUS do not possess legal personhood and therefore cannot be credited with human-like attributes such as inventorship.
This decision by the UK Supreme Court echoes similar sentiments upheld by tribunals in the United States and the European Union, which have also rejected Thaler’s applications to list DABUS as an inventor. The U.K. Intellectual Property Office initially rejected Thaler’s application in 2019, setting the stage for a legal debate that has now culminated in this landmark Supreme Court ruling.
This ruling is not just a conclusion to a legal dispute but marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing discourse about the relationship between AI and human creativity. As AI systems continue to evolve and play an increasingly significant role in various fields, this ruling serves as a critical reminder of the existing legal and ethical frameworks that govern our understanding and utilization of these technologies.
Legal Implications of the Decision
The UK Supreme Court’s unanimous decision underscores a key legal principle: the definition of an inventor is intrinsically linked to human personhood. This ruling has significant implications for the field of intellectual property law, especially in the context of rapidly advancing AI technologies. The court’s stance that AI, as a non-human entity, cannot be attributed with inventorship, reaffirms the traditional view that legal personhood is a prerequisite for such recognition.
Legal experts are now closely examining the ramifications of this decision. While the ruling provides clarity on the current legal standing of AI in patent law, it also highlights a growing gap between existing legislation and technological advancement. AI systems like DABUS are increasingly capable of generating novel ideas and solutions, raising questions about their potential role in intellectual property creation.
Furthermore, this ruling has sparked a discussion about the role of policymakers in shaping the future of AI in intellectual property law. The decision signifies that changes in the legal recognition of AI as an inventor, if any, would likely come from legislative updates rather than judicial verdicts. This perspective aligns with the growing recognition that AI technology is outpacing the current legal frameworks, necessitating a proactive approach by lawmakers to address these emerging challenges.
The case also sheds light on the broader legal and ethical considerations surrounding AI and creativity. The court’s decision raises fundamental questions about the nature of invention and the role of AI in the creative process. As AI continues to evolve, so too does the debate around its capabilities and limitations within the legal system. This ruling, therefore, not only addresses a specific legal question but also contributes to the ongoing dialogue about the place of AI in our society.
Broader Impact on AI Innovation and Future Developments
The UK Supreme Court’s decision, while providing legal clarity, also opens a conversation about the future trajectory of AI in the realm of innovation and intellectual property. This ruling distinctly separates the creative capacities of AI from the legal recognition of invention, a demarcation that has far-reaching implications for the field of AI development and the broader technology sector.
The decision signifies a pivotal moment for AI innovators and developers. It effectively means that while AI can assist in the creative process, the legal credit and subsequent patent rights will reside with human inventors. This could lead to a reevaluation of how AI is integrated into the research and development processes, especially in sectors that heavily rely on patents, such as pharmaceuticals, technology, and engineering.
Moreover, the ruling raises critical questions about the motivation and incentives for AI innovation. If AI-generated inventions cannot be patented, it may impact the investment in and development of AI systems designed for creative or problem-solving tasks. This could potentially slow the pace of innovation, as patent protection is often a key driver for research and development investment. However, it also encourages a collaborative model where AI is seen as a tool augmenting human creativity, rather than replacing it.
The case highlights the need for a forward-looking approach to AI governance and legal frameworks. As AI systems become increasingly sophisticated, capable of autonomously generating ideas and solutions, there will be a growing need for policies and laws that reflect these advancements. This ruling might prompt policymakers and legal experts to consider new frameworks that can accommodate the unique capabilities of AI while preserving the foundational principles of patent law.
In the broader societal context, this ruling contributes to the ongoing debate about the role of AI in our lives. It touches on ethical considerations, such as the ownership of ideas generated by non-human entities and the definition of creativity in the age of AI. As AI continues to permeate various aspects of society, these discussions will become increasingly important, shaping how we understand and interact with these advanced technologies.
