a lot of people are hating on the lilo & stitch live action for surface level reasons, mostly because people are rightfully not watching it and just repeating what they've read online while missing the bigger picture.
it's easy to bitch about this objectively bad tasteless remake from hell for things like not having gantu and making jumba the villain, but it takes a real stitch head to juxtapose that knowledge with the far more nefarious context, which is that disney opened a hawaiian resort called Aulani 14 years ago, and stitch is featured on the merch and at the resort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this simple fact is the entire reason why the live action project was doomed from the start and why the obvious overly-fuzzy capitalist slop overtones are ACTUALLY so much grosser than arguably anything in any previous disney live action. it's one thing to argue about narrative changes, but you have to understand why those narrative changes happened to actually get to the root of what's so evil about it. it's why even the opportunities where criticisms could be levied against tourism clearly aren't taken (lilo sneaks into a resort to take advantage of the hot tub and the employees remind her she's not supposed to be there - this is a comedic moment that seriously makes me question if the people involved in the story are that ignorant or if things were cut because of disney's overhead - something the original film notably didn't undergo)
furthermore, a lot of people are regurgitating internet opinions on nani ditching lilo which is obviously a terrible decision/change, but a lot of the arguments people are making about it seem to boil down to "nani doesn't care about lilo", which is a read that shows you kind of are just parroting others without context. the movie, to its credit, does not portray nani as a selfish person. she says to lilo "it's my kuleana (responsibility) to take care of you" while expressing reluctance about going. in my opinion, the problem is that a Native Hawaiian character's aspirations are adjusted to fit the idea of Western ideals, dreams, and success - go to university (neocolonial institution) far away from your home and get a great job! a fine thing to want to do, sure, but one that exists in the world where Native Hawaiians have had their land and livelihoods stolen, bastardized, and destroyed for the benefit of capitalists and Americans.
additionally, Nani's decision to give Lilo up was also in part because the social worker tells Nani that the state will pay Lilo's hospital bills (after the near-drowning scene) in full only if Nani surrenders the rights to guardianship to them (paraphrase). To me this is far more disgusting than nani choosing to go to university because the film does not treat this as a really fucked up threat emerging from a violent system of privatized healthcare but as some kind of benevolent offer that Nani should take.
the grandma who takes lilo in says "you can't leave yourself behind either" as a response to nani saying "'ohana means family". the film wants to make the caveat that you have to take care of yourself too (while ignoring that "taking care of yourself" can put the onus on you to choose to live better, rather than the system that is oppressing you and exhausting you).
Ayesha Khan writes:
"I kept asking “how can I care for myself when I cannot survive or thrive in a world by myself?” How can I care for myself when survival is a collective responsibility & we are fundamentally dependent on the care of so many beings? (...) Mainstream self-care has created NEW forms of oppression, extraction & exploitation. (...) Today, many people partake in self-care as a means to enable their personal success & wealth accumulation under capitalism" (source)
tl;dr it helps to know exactly why this movie sucks so much with some context. there are things happening here that are actually disgusting and evil and yet the actual conversation in the Discourse Machine Of The Week has not yet gone into these things. eventually, you might forget how mad you were that Jumba doesn't have a russian accent, but hopefully you can sustain some anger towards how disgusting it is that disney's slop adaption is full of capitalist signalling and unquestioned "real world Logic" that turns the story's world into an inescapable unimaginative nightmare, and one which will be undoubtedly used to drive tourism to disney's own Hawaiian resort - the original film was co-opted despite its critical eye, the remake is effortlessly abetting, guaranteed.

Alright I JUST rewatched Lilo & Stitch (ORIGINAL!!!) bc I wanted to ensure I knew WTF I was talking about.
Also, some spoilers for the live action remake
First- the ugly duckling story. Paired w seeming to realize that at the very least something is “wrong” (seeing that Cobra Bubbles speaking to Nani causes her to become distressed, & by extension Lilo) causes Stitch to go into the woods hoping to find HIS family. Here he is found by Jumba, who tells him he doesn’t have one, and that his only purpose is to destroy.
Right there seems to be his true turning point- he does run back to Lilo, but while Jumba says “hiding behind your little friend won’t work anymore” he had already been taking on more of… a protective stance? He wasn’t behind her, he was crowding her & looking around, even standing between her & the sound of Jumba bustin in. He pushes her outta the way and keeps her away from danger to the best of his ability while also juggling the fight with Jumba.
Nani yells at Bubbles about taking Lilo, because despite trying to convince Lilo that sometimes change has to happen, and sometimes people have to leave, she DESPERATELY does NOT want to be separated from Lilo.
After Lilo and Stitch are caught by Gantu, Stitch’s escape & recapture by Jumba & Pleakley, he convinces Jumba to help rescue Lilo. Jumba does seem more so intrigued in the moment, but nevertheless the three aliens & Nani give chase.
In the end, after a collective effort between Stitch (simply by being reformed) Bubbles (who reminds Lilo that she bought Stitch) & the sisters (also just by being kind, loving, and sad at the thought of Stitch leaving, bc as he said they’re O’hana now) Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley are left on earth.
Immediately after we see David, Pleakley, Jumba, AND Bubbles helping the sisters with rebuilding the house. We also get a few scenes of this family having grown to include not only Pleakley AND Jumba, but ALSO Bubbles. Everyone, including Bubbles, in casual clothes hanging out doing various things, as well as everyone together for thanksgiving in the final collage of photos.
Jumba & Bubbles are a part of the family. The family staying PHYSICALLY together is IMPORTANT because it’s not just what the sister’s need, but they truly want it- they love each other fiercely & as far as I know family is also INCREDIBLY important to the culture, which the original Lilo & Stitch did fairly well with showing appreciation for despite, in a sense, being a “minor” topic that most likely didn’t think twice about. Iirc, the original creators did a fair amount of research into Hula for accuracy. Also, Lilo specifically photographs tourists to essentially “flip the script” on how they treat the island(s) and native Hawaiians.
Bubbles being former CIA with experience with aliens, now a CPS employee is important bc he utilizes both the knowledge of aliens and his genuine care for the well-being of others (in this case Lilo) to help this family.
Jumba being the reformed villain instead of purely the villain results in rescuing Lilo, as stitch couldn’t manage on his own and Pleakley is the beloved historian/geologist/conservationist who is NOT equipped with the knowledge of how to do all this crazy shit Jumba knows how to do & Stitch is willing to figure out. If the L. A. movie basically made Pleakley a combo of the two, then they significantly watered down Jumba (an incredibly smart individual who seemed to pick up on the fact that Pleakley was being insensitive/unhelpful w Nani’s pleading & distress, as he shoved Pleakley to the side to gently explain that they only came for Stitch) while dramatically altering Pleakley bc (IMO) the appeal is the fact that they balance each other out, much like Nani and Lilo, and by extension each character in the end (seen in the other movies & the show) tend to play off each other well, generally complimenting one another and creating a larger, cohesive unit, even if they are a bit odd.
Essentially: Lilo & Stitch (OG) is like… alien Addams Family.
The L. A. Remake, with Jumba being purely a villain, Bubbles being purely a CIA agent (and also seemingly a villain of sorts instead of more like… an oppositional force?), and Nani giving up Lilo to the state (especially with the context that she apparently does so bc of Lilo being hurt and needing medical care that she can’t afford so the state would have to pay for it) is… not only a disservice to the original move and the message, but also is so… disgusting honestly.
It sounds almost as though it’s sort of… not quite “romanticizing” or “glorifying”, but still painting the loss of custody as a “good” thing, as something that should almost be appreciated as an option? When… with the family together, as it’s meant to be, is unnecessary but also for anyone w a bit of knowledge about the system & indigenous people being separated from their families, is extra fuckin disgusting quite frankly. Like… if the state has the money to pay for the child’s medical care, house & feed them, etc… why not save some money & JUST help the family with the costs of medical care??? Hell, Mr. “Former CIA agent, turned CPS worker” could have played a wonderful part right there in pulling some fuckin strings depending on how they could have written the movie.

Lilo and Stitch 2025...
Is an abomination.
And not a fun haha meme and its actually good- I stopped watching Disney movies in cinemas ever since the don't say gay bill.
And it keeps getting worse? Not only is L&S just a sad zombie of a beloved movie and fails to hit any of the marks of the original. It even worse as if some villain at Disney corporations is behind the scenes cackling madly and saying.
"Oh lets take a movie about the awful colinisation of Hawaii and then remove all those themes and instead write about seperating these two sisters and have one of them go to America for college, lets remove all the tourism critique as that'll make us look bad," And not only that- turning the ice cream guy who was white and making him a native? WHat in the FUCK are they smoking???
It's one thing to make a lame remake of a movie, another to be so vile to but in propoganda and ignore the damaging effects of tourism to hawaii culture oh my freakin god-
I was originally pissed that Pleakley isn't wearing a dress I have noticed a TON of movies from disney that had lgbt references, those golden age movies created BY LGBT producers who Disneys OWES their success to- and is just SCRUBBING it all away.
Its so sickening it's part of the problem but so small in comparison on how badly they fucked up a movie about culture, family, dealing with loss and depression, and the future of being in the foster care system and it's so disheartening.

Fixing Atta (A Bug's Life)
If I'm really honest, I like Atta's character, but I'm also aware that her behavior in the film left a lot to be desired, so here are some ideas that (from my point of view) could spruce up the character a bit. I mean, not make her perfect, but certainly fix her a bit. The following things I would fix about her would be:
1.Personality: I find her personality in the film too hostile and lacking in empathy toward Flik, so I would give her a personality with more empathy toward the protagonist, being aware of his feelings and intentions to contribute to the Colony, even though they always end in disaster. Of course, it wouldn't change her personality completely, but it would give the character more empathy. This could create a great internal debate in Atta between her pressure as a future ruler and her rational and understanding side toward Flik, being forced to make decisions more out of pressure from the council than of her own free will. So in the trial scene when the council gives Atta the idea of sending Flik away for several days with the excuse of looking for warriors so that he does not cause disasters Atta would not agree at first since she feels that this was too harsh a punishment for Flik especially considering the dangers that are beyond the island, but the council insists pressured her but she still stands firm until Mr. Soil lets out a phrase that is a subtle but powerful blow: "Your Highness, we understand that our request is not the best option at random, but that's the way things are. A leader sometimes has to make difficult decisions for the good of his people even if they are not the best. If you truly want to show the colony that you can be a responsible and fair queen then you must do what is right no matter what." Those words would be a rather low blow for Atta so much so that in the end she ends up accepting her defeated.
2. Participation in the defense / rescue of Dot: If there is something that bothers me the most in the movie is the inability of Atta (and her mother) to move a wing for her sister the 2 times she was in danger, I understand that she was afraid of Hopper or the bird but come on, you are not going to tell me that her fear was stronger than her sisterly love for Dot, even Nani would have fought with a puma just for Lilo. The way I would have rewritten the scenes would be when Hopper would be taking Dot directly to Thumper she would jump trying to rescue her little sister but she and her mother would be firmly held by 4 grasshoppers bigger than her leaving them immobilized causing both the queen and Atta to scream anguished and desperate begging Hopper to spare Dot's life, that she was not to blame for anything and that they would promise to give them a new offering until Flik would raise his voice among the crowd and then the scene would continue the same. In the scene of the bird attack I would have rewritten it making Atta go to where Dot was to try to save her but when she arrives both are surprised by the bird and after being hit by the flapping Atta is stunned / dizzy and fall into the crevice (not before Francis caught Dot) and apart from Francis Atta would also be injured on the side of the head after a stone thrown by the bird hit her right there leaving her more stunned, the scene would remain the same with Flik and the circus gang rescuing Dot, Francis and Atta while Slim and Heimlich make the distraction for the bird, when Flik noticed the princess he would become very worried seeing her condition but she would tell him that it was okay that the important thing was to get Dot out of here, that she would follow them flying from behind but the dizziness plus the pain made it impossible for her to maintain the flight without wobbling so Flik suggests that it would be best for her to ride Dim next to Manny for safety, There, the scene would continue just as it did in the movie. This would demonstrate that Atta (and her mother) care deeply about Dot, not just Flik, and that she's willing to take risks to keep her safe.
Well, these are just some personal ideas I've come up with to fix Atta. If you don't agree with them, no problem; you're not obligated to. If you have any ideas for fixing Atta, feel free to leave them in the comments section, or you can simply comment on what you think of my ideas (no insults or attacks).

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial
(SHORT ESSAY)
By Jensen Boles
Tumblr media
E.T The Extra Terrestrial film poster.
Directed by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial is regarded as an all time classic in the history of cinema. Spielberg was also known for his other classic films he directed such as Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Close Encounters: of the Third Kind and many more. The film, E.T. was released on June 11th, 1982 and stars the likes of Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore, Robert MacNaughton, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, and C. Thomas Howell.
youtube
Meeting E.T. for the first time clip.
The story of E.T. consists of an alien from outer space who accidentally gets left behind on Earth and a kid named Elliot (Henry Thomas) befriends the alien and brings him to his suburban California house. The alien, who goes by E.T., is then introduced to Elliot's brother, Michael (Robert MacNaughton), as well as his little sister, Gertie (Drew Barrymore). The kids try to keep E.T.'s existence a secret before E.T. succumbs to an illness which results in the government intervening, turning it into a stressful situation for E.T. and Elliot. However, things go right in the end as E.T.'s people come back for him and E.T. returns home safely. The film is also known for its story about an aliens who come to earth, the plot has been done before in a similar fashion for the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind which was also directed by Steven Spielberg as well as being a influence for other films to come such as Lilo and Stitch and many more.
The film was so influential and is regarded as a classic by many fans and critics alike. Roger Ebert once said "This movie made my heart glad. It is filled with innocence, hope, and good cheer. It is also wickedly funny and exciting as hell. "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" is a movie like "The Wizard of Oz," that you can grow up with and grow old with, and it won't let you down." Roger Ebert is saying that this movie is timeless and no matter how old you are or how many times you see it, the film will always be a classic. Phillip French from The Guardian even said "Spielberg clearly loves E.T. as much as the kids do, but he stops short of reverence. E.T. is indeed a marvelously funny creature and a credit to his galaxy." This quote indicates that E.T. will always be regarded as a classic film.
youtube
E.T. and Elliot Across the moon clip.
When it comes to the film's style, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial uses different techniques such as different practical effects to create a mysterious atmosphere, especially when it comes to the shot of Eliot and E.T. flying across the moon. This scene is so iconic and has also been referenced and spoofed in different forms of media.
For the film’s aspects of global cultures, I see how the film's world is reminiscent of a 1980's American suburban lifestyle. I think it makes sense since the film was released in 1982 and takes place in California.
Tumblr media
Behind the scenes look at E.T The Extra Terrestrial.
I believe this film is considered conventional because of the special effects and puppetry looking impressive for 1982 standards. It is also conventional because of the plot and how it's easy to follow along with being distributed by Universal studios which is a large company. With that said, the film made $11,911,430 for its opening weekend with a production budget of only $10,500,000. It also made $439,454,989 domestically and $357,852,418 internationally, making a total of $797,307,407 worldwide. However, the film does contain a few unconventional aspects such as the language the kids use when the adults aren't around, as well as having the alien act unusual while stranded on Earth. Despite a few unconventional aspects, I still consider this film to be conventional because of the amazing special effects as well as being directed by Steven Spielberg.
Since this film was released in the year of 1982, there have been many events happening globally that year. But the two that I'll be discussing would be the San Francisco 49ers winning their first Super Bowl by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-21. As well as Michael Jackson releasing his sixth studio album entitled Thriller. I believe these events that happened do have a global impact because the 49ers cemented their NFL dynasty and would later go on to win 5 Super Bowl's. Michael Jackson was a popular music star during the 1980's and influenced a bunch of later musical artists.

This is the most warped-lens take I’ve ever seen.
The creators literally said that their whole pitch for the movie was “what if we start with the villain and redeem him?”
They opened with this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The villain is Stitch, what are you on?
They opened with a criminal trial! They opened with the bad guy being captured.
Stitch is introduced as someone who’s engineered to have ONE instinct, and that’s destruction. Doesn’t get more cut-and-dry evil than that. Then the Captain, Gantu, responds harshly but justifiably, “it is an affront to nature. It must be destroyed!” And the Grand Councilwoman goes, “perhaps it can be reasoned with.”
AND SPECIFICALLY, for the BENEFIT OF THE BLEEDING-HEART AUDIENCE, asks the monster if there’s some sign that he understands any of this, if there’s anything good in him. And he specifically gets ready, clears his little throat like he has something important to say, and then says something so awful that it makes everyone in the chamber across multiple planets of cultures gasp in horror and recoil. And he laughs at their horror. That little prep-to-answer? His choice of answer? Premeditated nastiness. Just draws them in to upset them and then laughs.
Just like he laughs when he discovers he can trick the cannons, then immediately tries to trick them into murdering the officer guarding him. Just like he laughs in the children’s book the movie is built on, while Lilo is getting chased by an aggressive dog. Just like he laughs in the Untimely Death of Pudge the Fish deleted scene. Just like he laughs at footage of a giant ant eating people on a television show, just like he laughs when the luau catches fire. He shows no remorse.
Tumblr media
This is a movie where the audience is very specifically told that the main character is rotten all the way down to his core. Very specifically. As early on as possible. Its a story set up carefully.
For the whole movie he is using Lilo, a child, as a human shield. That is his first instinct, to use a young and defenseless creature looking for a friend for his own benefit. And he doesn’t just do it when Jumba and Pleakley are after him, he hides behind her when Cobra Bubbles and the beach volleyball guy are giving him nasty looks.
They specifically have his creator, who knows him better than anyone, make THIS comment:
Tumblr media
You have to be willfully blind to see that Stitch was not ‘set up by the system’ to have no-harm intentions. He was created to have nothing but harmful intentions. Jumba is not ‘the system’ that set this up. Jumba is going against the system when he creates Stitch. Unprovoked. Don’t give me that crap.
The new movie’s got him letting Lilo go so she can swim to the surface while he willingly drowns? In the original, he’s dragging her down in a blind panic. She needs him as a friend and he’s seen how much she wants him round—and he still leaves to “find where he belongs.” Jumba finds him alone in the woods and where does he go? Deeper into the jungle? Back to the wreckage of his ship? Does he fight Jumba on his own?
No. He immediately runs back to Lilo’s house and leads the danger right to her. Am I saying that in that moment he was trying to get her hurt? No, but what I am saying is that even when the turning point has started to come, he’s still not wired to have selfless intentions. That doesn’t come until almost the end of the movie.
Or, as Chris Sanders, creator of the character, says, “he’s not a better person, he just has understood the concept of ‘family.’”
It’s like you guys missed the point of the movie—it in no way matters WHY someone is evil. Not at all. That is NOT the point of the movie, that’s not the focus, it’s not the conversation the filmmakers were having, it’s not at all relevant to the story. It does not matter WHY someone is evil.
What the movie is saying is, “here’s how powerful family love is even if you’re evil.”
Stitch is so bad because the badder he is, the more incredible Lilo’s love for him looks.
He knocks her down and steals her stuff and wrecks her family home and ruins her sister’s job and nearly drowns her and gets their family torn apart and even gets her abducted. And at the end of the movie, she’s still choosing to love him.
And it’s her love that transforms him. So that he even can care about “where he belongs.” And in the end he chooses them too. And Jumba, who saw the irredeemable little monster he created suddenly start caring about a human girl and ask for help saving her?? That completely convinces him. Because a love that powerful shows him there could be somewhere he, a mad scientist, could belong. And guess where that powerful love was learned? Lilo learned it from Nani. “Why don’t you sell me and buy a rabbit instead?” She’s nothing but trouble for Nani but Nani chooses to give up everything for her. That’s love.
Stitch has to be the villain, and a lot of characters have to YES HAVE BAD INTENTIONS, in order to have the message be: “Unconditional Family Love Transforms You.” It’s a selfless, sacrificial love, the kind that doesn’t consider what the recipient of that love can DO FOR THEM. In fact, it loves IN SPITE of what the recipient of the love ruins for them. Like Lilo loves Stitch even if he ruins her life, and Nani loves Lilo even when she ruins Nani’s life. If there’s no bad, no evil, no naughty, then what’s love even there to be forgiving and gracious and transformative toward?
If there’s no villain in this movie, then what exactly is the message?? “Family love…endures even when the system is against it?” Is that what you’re saying?
Bull.
Tumblr media
You mean the “system” that Cobra references when Lilo saves Stitch by pointing out she legally adopted him? You mean the “system” that considers “endangered species” important enough to protect instead of annihilating the planet? You mean the “system” that Pleakley is only there because he represents it, the system that kept Jumba from blowing up Lilo’s house sooner? You mean the “system” that Gantu ignores when he, taking up the mantle of “villain,” kidnaps a human child and tries to annihilate his quarry without caring about collateral damage? You mean the “system” that would have been well within it’s rights to remove Lilo from Nani’s custody as soon as it found her verbally threatening the child locked in a house with a hammer in her hand?
Tumblr media
Rules freakin saved the day. The system allowed for the demonstration of the love that put the family back together at the end of the movie.
How old is this post? I feel like I’m having Deja vu. Did I already stomp over here once upon a time or is this bad take everywhere?
Quit projecting your postmodern worldview where you think you’re rebelling by tossing personal responsibility out the window and pointing fingers at a lazily-labeled “system” with no face.
This is not the movie for that. I know you want it to be. But it’s just not. You’re looking for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. 🙄 or V for Vendetta. Go somewhere else for your “I’m a rebel because it’s not my fault” fix.
Lilo & Stitch is a great example of a story that has no villains. It has antagonists, sure, but most of them are well-meaning. The worst person in the film is that little shit Myrtle, but she’s not in the film that much anyway.

Tumblr media
@magicmumu2 thank you for actually taking something from the original movie as evidence for the actual conversation we’re having, genuinely. That’s what I’m asking people to do, and so far, you’re the only one who’s done it (not the second person responding to me.)
To your point:
Tumblr media
The manager who made the decision to fire Nani is just as Hawaiian as Nani is, and he fired her because her dog attacked a guest. Nani calls it a “stupid, fakey luau” because she’s mad that she’s getting fired, with no indication that she dislikes the job because it’s an insult to her culture anywhere in the rest of the scene.
They had an opportunity to show “the kid at Table 3” who was throwing poi, and show him to be a little gremlin of a tourist, and imply that white colonists or tourists are part of what makes Nani’s life hard. But they didn’t show that. Because it’s not the focus of any of the scenes.
Tumblr media
The only shot that reveals any of the rest of the patrons of this Luau is one while David is fire dancing (which, by the way, there’s an entire shot devoted to him smiling around a mouthful of incendiary liquid, enjoying the show he’s about to wow them with. Not insulted that they paid to watch a display of a traditional fire dance, probably Siva Afi or something like it from the way the artists drew the type of knife/torch he’s holding.) and the tourists were not drawn carefully—you can see that the large bald white guy is duplicated and flipped with a different shirt pattern, and so is the woman seated behind him, on either side of the shot. If the artists wanted to make a statement about the kind of awful patrons that come to a “fakey luau,” they would’ve taken more care drawing them. They wouldn’t have slightly blurred out the only shot where the design of the luau is seen in full, and the kind of people who make such a luau possible, the touristy-patrons, were visible. Right?
Whereas when Disney wants to draw a crowd that is awful, and exploits others because they’re different, they do it with establishing shots like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is from Hunchback of Notre Dame. In the first screenshot you can see the character’s faces close enough to read expressions, which are laughing and cruel. In Lilo & Stitch, no time is taken to create an environment of offense or hostility in the luau.
In the second screenshot, you can’t tell because it’s a screenshot, but it’s a Dutch Angle, where the camera is tilting to convey that something is terribly wrong like they do in horror films, and again, you can actually read the faces of the cruel crowd in an environment that is hostile to Quasimodo. And then obviously in the second screenshot the two guys tormenting Quasimodo have enough camera-focus on them to show their evil expressions, but I also thought it was a nice touch that they gave them hats and backlit them so that their eyes were in dark shadow, making them look more ominous.
None of that time and care was put into creating an environment or backdrop of racism, hostility, or fakeness in the luau scene. Nothing looks cheaply made. David doesn’t look unhappy performing. Nani doesn’t look like she hates the job (just a regular dislike of a rowdy customer who’s throwing a traditional Hawaiian dish, by the way) until she’s fired, and then she responds that way to communicate she’s an 18 year-old who just lost her job in an already-tense situation, and that’s how any young distraught woman would try to save-face in that situation.
Also, the two guys sitting in the front row to the left of David are an Easter egg of the directors, Dean Deblois and Chris Sanders.
Tumblr media
If the directors of the movie wanted to portray the luau as fake, exploitative, and despised by the main characters, why would they draw themselves in the front row happily applauding David’s performance?
Thank you gain for making n actual point. I appreciate it. Just because it didn’t convince me doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it or it wasn’t a good point to bring up; when I mull the idea of “is Lilo & Stitch about racism” over, it is true that that was the only line in the movie that presented itself to my brain (outside of the deleted scenes) as a possibility.
That’s It.
I’m tired of seeing everyone repeat the same four points: “1) Nani gives Lilo to the state! 2) Hawaii has a better marine biology program than San Fransisco! 3) Jumba doesn’t get redeemed! 4) Pleakley’s not wearing a dress!”
Those are not the only things that were bad about this remake. You could easily tell it was going to be all that and more beforehand, but most people’s reaction to the trailer was “it’s surprisingly good!” and now they’re acting all surprised. If you didn’t see this coming, enough to purchase a ticket, you’re part of the problem and you don’t get the original movie any more than the people who made this remake did.
So I’m done being quiet, this is the Lilo & Stitch 2025 Takedown Post.
And as usual the only good thing about an attempted-remake is that it gives people a reason to think about what made the original so good.
Let’s go in order. But just scroll down to the Heading you Care About if you don’t want to read all this.
1. Cobra Bubbles
Tumblr media
In this movie, Cobra Bubbles is a secret agent hunting for aliens and they have a new character take his place as the state social worker.
The Problem They Were Trying to Solve With this Change: “We shouldn’t have a black man or a government worker feel like an insensitive antagonist to Lilo’s family.”
That’s a stupid surface-level one-dimensional misread of the character from the original…and it wouldn’t have been hard, at all, for a child to explain to the 2025 filmmakers that Cobra is not an insensitive antagonist in the original.
Tumblr media
Cobra Bubbles is not insensitive and he is not in any way portrayed as a bad guy in the original. Nani sees him that way, Nani sees him as antagonistic, because he’s the representation of Lilo being taken away.
But Nani is wrong about him and learns that she is wrong about him by the end of the movie.
Tumblr media
Can we please make a list?
Cobra’s first interaction with the caretaker of the child he was being sent to protect was that she ran out into the road, yelled at a complete stranger, and dented his car.
Then he found her locked out of the home and threatening the child inside with a hammer in her hand.
Then he found out the stove was on while she was out, and she’d left a 7 year-old alone.
The 7 year-old made comments about being disciplined with bricks and a pillow case.
The 7 year-old looks like she might be more than a little emotionally unbalanced because she’s figuring out how to put voodoo spells on her friends to punish them.
He still gave that pair of sisters three days to straighten the ship. When in actuality, in 2002, under HRS §587-73, (don’t play with me) the social worker would’ve been well within his rights to remove the child from the home right then. But instead he gives her three days to fix it. THEN
The 18 year-old loses her job.
The family gets a “dog” who he is implied to know is an alien, right off the bat.
The alien is violent and wreaks havoc across town.
The 7 year-old almost drowns while they surf instead of find a job.
He lets the child and caretaker have one more night together to say goodbye, but when he’s on the way to get her he gets a call that she’s being attacked by aliens, hears a chainsaw, and finds the house on fire.
Do you understand what I’m saying.
Tumblr media
Cobra Bubbles had NO BUSINESS being as BIG A SOFTIE AS HE WAS for all of the original movie. He was not only well within his legal rights to take Lilo away from Nani immediately, but he was actually required by law, it was his DUTY, to remove her immediately. But he didn’t do that. Why?
Now listen to me very carefully.
Lilo and Stitch is a movie about how “Family chooses to love and commit to one another selflessly, no matter what the other person can do for them or how hard they make it.” The fancy way they say it is just “Ohana means family: family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”
Did you catch that? “No matter how hard they make it.”
Cobra Bubbles was a CIA agent before this. A CIA agent who saved the planet, by doing what? Convincing an alien race to leave them alone. Oh, he didn’t fight them off? No. How? He “convinced” them? He talked it out? Sounds like a pretty compassionate guy, for all his tough exterior. How did he do that?
Tumblr media
He could’ve picked any animal that’s actually endangered. The filmmakers chose to make him the guy who convinced aliens to value mosquitos.
MOSQUITOS. Creatures that give nothing, only take. Ugly little bloodsucking monsters. That’s the creature he convinced them to care about enough to save the planet.
Tumblr media
NOW do you have any trouble understanding why this is the specific social worker who would give an alien-infested dumpster fire of a dangerous home a chance when two sisters are about to be torn apart?
Do you see that Cobra is just another example of the grace that the movie is always talking about? The love that transforms someone from bad to good simply because it refuses to give up even when it gets nothing out of it? I’m repeating myself because I want you to see why he was a well-done character who NEEDED NO CHANGE.
Tumblr media
Cobra Bubbles’ character is not an insensitive monster who doesn’t care who his actions hurt as long as he gets the job done. But you know who that does sound like?
2. Gantu
Tumblr media
Gantu is not in the remake at all.
The Problem They Were Trying to Solve With This Change: “It’s going to cost us upwards of 1.5 millions of dollars to design, sculpt, rig, animate, and render a character this big in addition to finding a suitable voice actor to play the part.”
This is a really dumb choice for several reasons. A. Without Gantu, there is no “stakes-raiser” to Lilo and Nani’s story. The movie has no climax without him. For the first and second acts of the movie, it’s about a grieving pair of girls trying to prove themselves to a social worker while the story-equivalent of Beethoven the Destructive St. Bernard wacky Jumba & Pleakley antics get in their way. But when a 40-foot tall alien stomps into their lives and abducts Lilo & Stitch in a spaceship that careens around the island during an explosive sky-chase scene, now you have a high-octane, somebody-could-die climax.
B. Without Gantu, Stitch looks weaker. The climax gave Stitch a reason to come out of the wackadoo puppy he’s been posing as and suddenly remind everybody that he’s a lethal weapon who can survive thousand-foot drops, lava, and astronomic explosions—and a giant alien’s Thanos-dwarfing fist. Take him out and who do we have as a match for Stitch to go up against, even for a moment, and prove how much he’s changed to be willing to risk his freedom and fight?
Tumblr media
C. Without Gantu you have no villain to reflect that STITCH is no longer a villain. (So they substituted Jumba.)
But the reason this character is really worth millions is, again, the theme.
I told you Cobra Bubbles was a character who did not put “duty” or even “convenience” or “position” over the real lives of Lilo and Nani. He saw that there was love there, and in his own way, he gave it a chance. And even when he chose to take Lilo away, he did it carefully; he gave them time to say goodbye.
GANTU IS THE OPPOSITE OF COBRA BUBBLES.
Gantu is the insensitive, uncaring, unyielding Captain whose commitment to duty turns into rage and cruelty. Not Cobra.
Nani thinks Cobra is walking in a threatening to tear apart their family in a display of government judgement. But that’s what Gantu literally does.
His first reaction to Stitch is to call for his destruction. Without even waiting to see if “it can be reasoned with” like the Grand Councilwoman suggests. He’s merciless. He mocks Stitch when Stitch is captive. And he knows that he caught Lilo, a human, along with him. He doesn’t care. He even suggests that Stitch eat her as a snack.
There are only two other characters who laugh at others’ misfortune in the movie. One is Stitch, the original villain. Then love changes him. The other is Jumba, who made Stitch. Then love changes him. But Gantu never gets changed. He’s only concerned with his job, and with personally annihilating the flaws he sees in Stitch.
Tumblr media
Gantu is unyielding, ungracious, and cruel. And he’s big and powerful enough to be a test for Stitch to prove he’s changed. For the benefits he brings to the story, he’s worth 1.5 million and more. But they cut him anyway.
3. Jumba
Tumblr media
In the new movie, Jumba is a villain through-and-through with designs on overthrowing the Galactic Council using Stitch, and instead of being redeemed, he’s sentenced to prison.
The Problem They Were Trying to Solve With This Change: “We can’t spend money on our real villain so we’ll just keep Jumba evil.”
The reason this is dumb is obvious. They created their own problem, and the ‘fix’ makes the movie weaker, not stronger. But here’s how.
In the original, Jumba is introduced as trying to self-protect. He’s on trial, and he lies. But when Stitch is revealed, he’s genuinely passionate about the thing he’s created. And he cares about image. He prefers to be called “evil genius,” and he hates the headlines labelling him “idiot scientist.”
You have to remember he’s part of “Galaxy Defense Industries.” They had him making weapons of destruction anyway. He just got too into it with his genetic Experiments, went a little insane.
I’m not downplaying the fact that Jumba is evil at the start of the movie. He is. It is evil to be outcasted from society and then respond to that with, “well, if they’re going to treat me like an idiot, I’LL SHOW THEM, I won’t care about anything except my passion for mad science!” That’s evil.
But it also explains a lot.
I said it in another post. Jumba’s whole utility as a character is that he knows who and what Stitch really is, better than anyone. He made him to be a monster who can’t belong and wreaks havoc on everybody else’s ‘place of belonging.’ Jumba is the audience’s insider’s perspective on what is going on in Stitch’s head, at first.
But when he’s redeemed, it happens fast. And why? Because that’s how plain and simple Stitch is, as a character. Jumba knows Stitch is a disgusting little monster with nothing inherently loveable about him, and no “greater purpose.” So when his disgusting monster is loved by someone? When his disgusting monster is willing to ask him, Jumba, for help? Something totally outside his programming, totally not what Jumba thought he’d ever be capable of?
That proves to Jumba, in an instant, that there’s love out there that transforms. And creates a place of belonging.
Tumblr media
There were already germs of that, a desire to belong, a compassion, in Jumba after he reached earth.
He doesn’t try to get Nani fired, he offers an explanation for Pleakley’s swollen head.
He claims he won’t hit Lilo (why would he care about collateral damage?)
He sounds sorry for Nani when she’s upset about losing Lilo, and tries to keep Stitch from bothering her.
My point is, Jumba’s redemption isn’t important because it’s cute or because we need to set up the big happy found-family trope everybody loves.
Jumba’s redemption is important because it is just one more PROOF that what’s happened to Stitch is so incredible. The love Jumba finds transforming his monster is enough to transform Jumba, too.
Tumblr media
But sure, fine, whatever, make him a soulless one-dimensional talking head. Whatever.
4. Stitch’s Design
Tumblr media
In this movie, Stitch is cuter than he is ugly, and he’s half Lilo’s size.
The Problem They Were Trying to Solve With This Change: “Ugly-cute doesn’t come across as well in ‘live action’ animation. And all the Wal-Mart moms remember Stitch as ‘cute.’ Plus we’ll save about 15% in rendering the animation.”
This is crippling to the characterization of Stitch.
Stitch is supposed to be an echo of who Lilo could become now that she’s lost her parents and may be losing Nani. This scene:
Tumblr media
Where Jumba points out that Stitch has nothing, and destruction is his only purpose, is the evidence for that. But Chris Sanders, who made this whole story, also point-blank said it. Stitch is a future Lilo, if she loses her family.
So that’s reason number 1 that he should be her same height. But also, practically, no iconic pair of best friends, yin and yang, have visuals where one is smaller than the other. Especially not if one of them is supposed to be disguised as a pet.
The point is, Stitch is not LILO’s pet. He is her best friend, her other half. But between the muzzle-muscles they worked into his upper lip and the darkened dog nose and the butt-scooting across the floor, the remake is trying to make him more pet-like in relation to Lilo.
Tumblr media
That’s not what he is.
I said this in another post. But Stitch is supposed to throw food to the back of his head like a gator—his lips are not designed for forming words. His gums and teeth are supposed to look like a shark’s. His nose is supposed to be too big, stamped into his face. His ears are supposed to be like bat ears, not bunny ears. He hunches forward, instead of bending at the waist like a toddler. His eyes can narrow to lizard slits.
He has to look like he can believably be a disgusting monster. Yes, he can also be cute. But he has to first look like a monster. Because that’s what he really is, in the story. If he isn’t, then LILO’s love for him doesn’t look as powerful.
It is easy to love a cat even if it scratches you, because it’s cute. It’s harder to love a life-sized spider that keeps knocking you down and eating your prized possessions and laughing when you get hurt. Stitch is supposed to be closer to the second one, so that Lilo’s love shines brighter.
But also, practically:
She can’t look him in the eye for emotional shots when he’s that short. He’ll always have to awkwardly be standing on a box or a chair or a bed.
How is he going to scoop her up, hero-style, and leap off of an exploding spaceship with her in his arms, when he’s half her size? He could do it: it’ll look stupid, though. So they just don’t have that part in the movie.
She can pick him up. That alone is demeaning and again, the visuals are silly. Not what we’re going for.
5. Lilo’s Personality
Tumblr media
In this movie, Lilo doesn’t like weird stuff, and she screams when she first meets Stitch. There’s no problem that this solves. It’s just laziness and a lack of care about the characters.
I would like to remind you that the original Lilo:
Made her own doll that looks like a shrunken head and pretended a bug laid eggs in her ears.
Makes up stories about a fish that controls the weather and actively deep-sea dives to bring it peanut butter sandwiches.
Has a knee-jerk reaction of using practical voodoo spells on friends who wrong her.
Listens exclusively to Elvis Presley.
Fills baby bottles with coffee.
Believes Nani’s manager is a vampire.
Has fishing nets and seashells in her room for decoration.
takes safari pictures of overweight bleached tourists.
meets a social worker and her first impulse is to ask if he’s killed someone.
Nails the door shut when she’s mad at her big sister.
She’s not friends with pound dogs in that original movie; when they first get there she acts like she’s never been in the kennel before, and originally wants a pet lobster.
I know that we all love that little girl they got to play Lilo, but if you were really being objective, you’d acknowledge that she’s a little girl. She’s not Lilo. She’s a cute little girl.
They did not write Lilo into the 2025 movie. They wrote any old little girl.
You should have known, from the moment she first sees Stitch and her reaction is to scream in the trailer, that THAT IS NOT LILO.
Lilo had a very specific set of characterizations. She was a character with a personality that exploded out of the screen. Every other character in the movie meets Stitch and reacts with disgust.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But not. LILO. She’s the only one to react to him like THIS:
Tumblr media
She is literally not like anyone else. She’s doesn’t care that he’s ugly. Or weird. Or blue. Or even bat an eye when he can talk with all those shark teeth.
From Moment One, Lilo chooses Stitch. She chooses to love him. Regardless of what he can do for her. Regardless of how many times he pushes her over or rips up her house or makes her relationship with Nani harder. That is the number one thing about Lilo.
She is desperate for people to stay, but she chooses to love Stitch even though he’s a monster. And she tries to make him better. And her love succeeds in transforming him when nothing else could.
Lilo’s personality traits all mean something in the story. (I.e. she likes Elvis because she’s clinging to the past, she snaps pictures of tourists like they’re safari animals because they’re inherently people who LEAVE and she has issues with LEAVING, etc.) But the thing I think that was so obvious that the moviemakers missed for 2025 is she has to be weird. If she’s not weird, there’s no reason for her not to have friends. And if she has friends, what does she need Stitch for?
But also, Lilo’s personality in the new movie is just boring. Cute. But boring. Cute’s not that great of an accomplishment; any 7 year-old is cute.
6. Nani
I don’t think you guys need to know this. It’s not just that Nani leaves. It’s that “take care of yourself” is the exact opposite of the selfless message of the movie.
In the beginning, Lilo literally argues with Nani after being told she’s “such a pain,” and goes, “why don’t you SELL ME and buy a RABBIT INSTEAD?”
And then breaks down and cries at the thought of Nani wishing she had a rabbit instead of Lilo, later.
Because Lilo is afraid of people leaving. But Nani won’t leave her. Nani loses her job, her own life, because of Lilo. But she’s desperate to keep Lilo anyway, because she loves her. Don’t you understand? The message of the movie was about self-sacrificial love. A love that doesn't care what I get out of the relationship.
Nani starts it. But you know what, David loves her like that, too. And then Lilo transfers it to Stitch, who shows it off to Jumba. It’s a chain reaction, but Nani is spearheading it.
You realize that when their parents died, Nani already would’ve been in high school? With a whole life of her own? Her own friends, her own potential boyfriend, a job she went to, surf competitions (the trophies are in her room.) Lilo would’ve been well aware that that was the status-quo: Nani has her own life. And even a seven year-old can see that that life is being put on hold, but maybe the big sister wants to go back to it, at every turn.
The fact that Nani never does that, never expresses a desire for that, only ever expresses a desire to keep Lilo with her, is huge. It’s the core of the movie.
I don’t think that needs any more explaining.
We could talk more. Like about how Lilo needs to see that Stitch is an alien, because that’s the ultimate test: he’s one of the monsters who destroyed her house, he’s been lying to her and using her as a human shield, he’s a criminal—but she still winds up giving everything up to protect him.
Anyway. My neck hurts and I don’t want to type anymore. But we could talk about the music, the social worker, the grand councilwoman—it just doesn’t matter.
Ya’ll had more than enough details in the trailer to be able to not go see this movie because it was obviously going to ruin everything. But instead you chose to make this twisted corpse “the highest-grossing movie of any Memorial Day.” You bought tickets because they ruined a perfect movie and slapped together an uglier package for you.
Whatever. It was my favorite movie today, it’ll be your Treasure Planet or Tangled tomorrow. Keep riiiight on giving them your money, and keep letting influencers regurgitate the same four obvious facts to you over and over, because they paid Disney to make a talking-point for their content benefit. Whatever.

Mommy, Can We Keep Him? (Charlie Gillespie x Original Character
Warnings: mention of teenage pregnancy A/N: I was inspired to write a character like Lilo from Lilo and Stitch and thought of what if Charlie had a daughter like that? Then I thought about Dad! Charlie.... Here is my inspired writing piece! Let me know if you want a follow up wedding piece! Disclaimer: This is a FICITONAL writing piece! In no way do I claim characters in this piece act this way in real life.
Masterlist *now taking requests ;)
Mommy, Can We Keep Him? (Charlie Gillespie x Original Character)
Riley King started working for Netflix when she was 18 and impressed everyone at the head office with her hard work and dedication. With her motivation and work ethic, she managed to climb her way to be part of the executive management team all at the ripe age of 21. People often asked Riley how she climbed the ladder so quickly, or what was the secret to her success. No one ever guessed that her motivation came from a little girl who looked exactly like her.
Emerson Gianna King was born on August 31st of 2014 when Riley was 16 years old. She had quite the wild nature to herself, always sneaking out and illegally partying with her friends. It was only a matter of time that she would be blinded by love and give her virginity to a boy she swore would get married. He was 17 at the time and she was head over heels for him. One drink too many and a poor judgement call resulted in Riley’s teenage pregnancy.
Her one true love broke up with her a week after they had had sex, stating that his dad had had gotten a job at a law firm in Miami and that a long distance relationship wouldn’t work. She didn’t know that she was pregnant at the time, but when she did, she tried to reach out to him. His family thought it was stupid attempt at getting back together and claimed that the baby wasn’t his. They were ready to launch a full lawsuit in order to protect their family’s reputation, something that Riley and her single mom couldn’t afford to do. So they dropped it, signing legal papers that they would never contact them again and that their son wasn’t responsible for paying any child support.
This heartbreak and her daughter made Riley clean up her act and graduate high school a year ahead of her friends. She quickly started working for various companies, taking night classes at the local college campus in hopes to get her foot in the door for a bigger company and work her way up. Which is exactly what she did and how she ended up working for Netflix. That’s how she met Kenny Ortega, who introduced her to the actors of Julie and the Phantoms. She mostly worked with Netflix, but she was assigned to be there every day of boot camp to watch and monitor the development of the TV show, making projections about how their viewers would receive the new show. She didn’t anticipate to be a part of the small family that was created behind the scene with the cast and crew, and she certainly didn’t anticipate falling for one of the lead actors Charlie Gillespie.
They had been dating for three months before Riley told him about Emmerson. She had expected that he call off the entire relationship, understanding that not everyone wanted to be with someone who had a baby at sixteen. They were 22 at the time and Riley explained that she was looking to be in a serious relationship for her daughter’s sake. While Charlie couldn’t promise that this relationship would go in the direction they both wanted, he did promise that he would do his best to be there for her. He didn’t know that winning over the little girl’s heart would prove to be difficult.
Emerson wasn’t like all the other kids. For one thing, she was very mature for her age. She was potty trained at two years old and started to learn how to read basic books at the age of 4. She developed her speech quickly and often looked to use specific words that kids her age rarely heard or understand. She was a perceptive little girl and sometimes she was a little too smart and observant for her own good. This made it difficult for her to make friends at daycare because everyone thought she was weird. Riley would often catch her talking to Lilo whenever she put Lilo and Stitch on for her to watch. She would tell Lilo about the frustrating girls at her daycare and how they too “need to be punished”.
So it was no surprise to her that when Emerson first met Charlie, she would be grilling him. Charlie had expected her to be a cute little girl that likes to play with dolls. Instead, he was met with a perceptive toddler that made him question his own intelligence at times. She was very standoffish when she met him, afraid that this man was going to hurt her mommy, but over time Emerson began to open up and trust Charlie. One night, when they were six months into dating, they had to cancel their dinner plans as Riley’s babysitter came down with a flu and no one else could babysit. Therefore, their dinner plans were changed to ordering pizza and having a movie night with Emerson. Riley groaned partly through the beginning of Lilo and Stitch when her work called, excusing herself as it was an important phone call.
This left Emerson and Charlie alone for the first time.
“Charlie, who’s Elvis Presley?” Charlie’s eyes grew big like teacup saucers.
“Your mom hasn’t shown you who Elvis Presley is?! How many times have you watched this movie?!” Emerson shrugged, not taking her eyes off the screen, popping a piece of popcorn into her mouth and chewing.
“Do you want the real answer?” he was caught off guard at the frankness in her tone, starting to wonder just how many times she had watched the film. He shrugged it off and paused the movie, pulling his phone out and opening Youtube to educate the child on the legend, Elvis Presley.
When Riley returned to the living room, she was shocked to see Emerson sitting in Charlie’s lap, holding the phone, staring intently at the screen and listening to the music that played out of the speaker. She had never seen her daughter so focused before. She looked at Charlie who was equally focused on the screen of the phone as well, and she smiled to herself enjoying the view. Out of defense, Riley quickly shrugged off the creeping thought that this could be her family. After all, her and Charlie had only been dating for 6 months.
“How have you not shown her who Elvis Presley is?” he exclaimed, noticing her presence. Emerson looked at her with questioning eyes as well, feeling slightly betrayed that her mother withheld such precious information away from her.
“I’m not really a big music person! I kinda just listen to songs I like rather than musicians” she shrugged sheepishly.
“Mommy, Charlie said there’s a documentary on Netflix about Elvis Presley. Can we watch that instead of Lilo and Stitch?” Riley’s jaw dropped at the fact that her daughter was more interested in watching something other than her favorite comfort Disney movie. She silently nodded and changed the settings on the TV, starting the Elvis Presley documentary. This was the first time her daughter ever really opened up to someone and found something in common.
Emerson absolutely loved the documentary and would go on for weeks listening to Elvis Presley nonstop. After Riley waved goodbye to Charlie and closed the door, Emerson sat patiently on the entryway bench for her mother.
“Mommy, can we keep him?”
“Yeah, Emmy. I think we can”
***
It soon became a regular thing to have Charlie stay the night at Riley’s house. He woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, but on his way back to the bedroom he heard soft whimpers and sniffles coming from Emerson’s bedroom. He stood outside her door, debating if he should go get Riley or if he should go in himself. He knew Riley was exhausted having had a full day of work and meetings, so he opted to let her sleep and peek into Emerson’s room. He thought that if it was out of his control, he could always go and get her. The sight of the little girl broke his heart.
Emerson was fast asleep, but she was trembling and clutching onto her stuffed bunny for dear life. She whimpered and tears fell from her closed eyes. Charlie quietly moved to her side and sat on her bed, softly rubbing her back, whispering her name to break her out of her nightmare. It worked, but when she woke up, she jumped into Charlie’s arms and softly cried. He was surprised at first,  but quickly snapped out of it hugging the girl and rubbing her back.
“It’s okay Emmy... It was just a bad dream... It wasn’t real... you’re okay... you’re safe” the little girl started to calm down as Charlie soothed her and rocked her side to side a bit.
“They took me away from mommy...” she whimpered and nid her face in Charlie’s neck. He felt the collar of his shirt dampen as she cried, but he picked her up and moved to the armchair she had in her room. He sat down and held her tightly in his arms.
“No one is ever going to take you away from mommy, okay? I won’t let that happen” he didn’t know where these words were coming from or where he got the confidence to say them, but in that moment he knew that he would do whatever he could for Emerson.
“Promise?”
“I promise.” he whispered, kissing her head and rubbing her back. She settled comfortably in his chest and took deep breaths. Charlie instinctively started to hum a song softly as he rubbed her back, until her breathing steadied and soft snores came from the small figure. Charlie smiled to himself that he was able to handle the situation alone, but he realized he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to put her back in bed, or if he had to hold her for the rest of the night. Not wanting to wake her up, he carefully reached for the knitted quilt beside the armchair and draped it over them. Guess he was sleeping in the armchair that night. His neck would hate him in the morning.
Riley woke up early that morning when she rolled over to cuddle the missing Charlie. She bolted up and threw on her housecoat to search for him, but stopped when she noticed Emerson’s door cracked open. The sight inside the bedroom brought tears to her eyes and she covered her mouth to avoid making any sound that would wake them. There was Charlie sleeping in the armchair holding a sleeping Emerson in his arms. They were both fast asleep and quietly snoring.
For the first time, in their nine months of dating, Riley let herself see the possibility of Charlie being the man who could be Emerson’s dad.
***
Charlie fiddled with his collar nervously, holding flowers in the other hand. He took a deep breath and shook off his nerves before pressing on the door bell. He waited patiently and anxiously outside, only to be greeted by his beautiful girlfriend, Riley. She smiled brightly at him and he stood there blown away by her beauty. They were both dressed up semi-formally tonight as Charlie insisted on taking Riley out for a fancy dinner to recreate a cheesy romcom movie date for their anniversary. Their usual dates consisted of hiking or lounging at the beach, so Charlie figured it would be nice to dress up for once, especially since Riley rarely dressed fancy.
“Hey! Come on in, I’m just finishing up debriefing the babysitter” Charlie kissed her cheek quickly and stepped inside, shutting the door behind him as she rushed back to the kitchen. Charlie waited by the front door patiently for her to finish up.
“Where are you taking mommy tonight, Charlie?” he jumped at the voice from behind, turning around to see Emerson sitting on the entryway bench. She looked up at the man who waited for her mom, bunny beside her in one hand and her blanket in the other. Charlie smiled at her presence and squatted down to her level, petting her bunny on the head.
“I’m taking mommy on a fancy dinner. You off to bed?” she nodded and opened her arms, to which Charlie gladly received her hug, only, he didn’t expect her to awkwardly latch herself on to him. Thinking quickly, he adjusted himself and picked her up. She was short and thin, so it was no problem carrying her. Her small stature always made her mother worry that she wasn’t getting enough nutrients. “I guess I couldn’t let you sleep without some snuggles could I?” she nodded as she laid her head on his chest, something her and Charlie had in common was that their love language was physical touch.
“It’s nice to see mommy in something other than jeans or sweats. I like your bowtie too” Emerson fiddled with said bow tie as Charlie gently rocked her. He was always so surprised at how observant she was and how she was able to clearly articulate her thoughts for being six years old. She was very bright and quick to understand situations, which made it hard for her to make friends at daycare. Another thing that Riley worried about often.
“You want me to tuck you in Emmy?” she shook her head against his chest and wiggled, signifying that she was okay with being put down. Charlie obeyed her wish and set her down on the floor, sitting on the entryway bench like she once did. “You’re looking a little sleepy squirt” he chuckled, clearing the hair from her face.
“Mommy said the babysitter and I get to watch a movie of my choice before bed time since it’s Friday. I wanted to watch Big Daddy but mommy said the babysitter might question her parenting choices” he let out a big laugh and Emerson giggled back.
“Having fun you two?” Riley appeared in the entryway with the babysitter. Riley crouched down and opened her arms wide to hug Emerson. The little girl jumped into her mom’s arms, nearly knocking her to the floor. “Love you Emmy. Please listen to the babysitter and go to bed on time” Riley knew she wouldn’t put up a fuss, but she figured she would remind her anyways.
“Love you mommy” she smiled as she kissed her mom’s cheek and walked to Charlie. “Love you Charlie” she tiptoed so that she could reach the man’s cheek, who also gave her a big hug. “Don’t be out too late!” she called skipping into the living room, the babysitter following after. The couple stood in the entryway thinking about Emerson’s last remarks before disappearing.
“Ready to go, my love?” Charlie cleared his throat, opening the door and gesturing for Riley to go first. She playfully rolled her eyes and they stepped out of the house towards the vehicle. Emerson waved at them from the front window, and they waved back, until she couldn’t see them any more.
***
“Remind me again what time you fly in?” Riley wiped some of the water that splashed on her face as she washed the dishes. Like all mothers, she was multitasking. Cleaning the house for Emerson’s birthday and trying to figure out her schedule considering Charlie was flying in from Canada. Emerson sat at the kitchen table quietly coloring while her mother was on the phone.
“Don’t worry about picking me up. You already have so much to do! I’ll just get an uber to your place” Riley toweled off her hands and took Charlie off speaker phone, holding the phone to her ear. Despite dating for a year and a half, they hadn’t officially moved in together. Charlie still had his place with all of his things, but half of his stuff was at Riley’s. “Plus I don’t want Emmy catching on to my surprise for her.”
“Right. Okay, well I’ll keep the door unlocked, since we’re home all day. I gotta go though, I still have to call the bakery to set up a pick up time for her cake and cupcakes” the couple said their quick ‘I love yous’ while Emerson shouted hers from the kitchen. Riley took a moment to herself and sighed against the wall in the corridor. Between everything at work and Emerson’s birthday, she had quite a lot on her plate but she was relieved that Charlie was able to come home a little earlier to help her out. She straightened her spine and returned to the kitchen, kissing her daughter’s head. “Emmy, mommy has to jump on to a zoom meeting in the office, are you okay to color for 30 more minutes?”
“Mommy, when can I go on a date with Charlie?” her mother froze mid movement around the kitchen, the question catching her off guard. “I know we go on dates together, but you always look like you have way more fun when it’s just you and Charlie. I wanna have fun with Charlie too” she smiled at her daughter and sat down beside her.
“Well, why not ask Charlie on a date? You can make him a little card before he gets in tonight and while I do my meeting.” her eyes lit up at the suggestion and she quickly got to work, making her mother smile. Riley got up and headed to her office, not wanting to disturb the project her daughter had started.
Riley’s meeting lasted an hour, much to her displeasure, but it was a productive one. It worked out for Emerson as she had made an elaborate card to give Charlie when he came home that night. Riley helped her daughter take a bath and ordered Sugarfish for dinner, both of them anticipating the arrival of their favorite guy. As soon as Emerson heard the door creak open, she bolted for the entryway and jumped into Charlie’s awaiting arms. He peppered her face with kisses and tickled her until Riley came along, who he kissed deeply and earned a “yuck!” from Emerson. Their dinner arrived soon after Charlie’s arrival and they all sat around the dinner table, Emerson lost in Charlie’s stories of his hometown.
“Emmy, don’t you have something for Charlie?” she perked up remembering and clumsily got out of her chair, putting her chopsticks down to run to the office. She grabbed her card for Charlie and skipped back to the dining room, placing the card beside his bento box.
“Oh? What’s this Emmy? Can I open it?” she nodded her head enthusiastically and sat back in her place at the table. Charlie’s smile wavered as he read the card, feeling slightly emotional. On the front was a picture of the three of them and inside the card read:
Dear Charlie,
Will u go on a date with me?
Love, Emmy
Hearts, flowers and smiley faces decorated the inside of the card, but the text was written in big bold letters. He could tell a lot of effort went into making the card judging by all the neatly placed stickers and carefully drawn pictures and patterns. It still amazed him that for a six year old, turning seven, that she could write so neatly.
“Mommy helped me with some of the spelling, but I mostly did it myself” she smiled, anticipating his response. “What do you think?”
“It’s beautiful Emmy. I would love to go on a date with you” she clapped her hands and bounced in her seat, her reaction causing everyone at the table to smile and laugh. They continued to eat their dinner while planning things that they could do together, as Riley sat there watching and admiring the relationship that was unfolding before her eyes. How did she get so fortunate to find a man like Charlie?
***
Charlie ended up taking Emerson to Disneyland and even though Riley accompanied them, Charlie and her went on all the rides together. Riley took pictures and held onto their things as the two enjoyed themselves around the theme park. Charlie knew it would be a good thing to have Riley around because she was the voice of reason when Emerson and Charlie thought of having their third Dole Whip of the day. The two of them laughed and had the time of their lives. When supper time came, Riley planned to meet a client over super at downtown Disney, planning on meeting her boyfriend and daughter later on in the evening. This left the two of them to have dinner with Goofy at Goofy’s Kitchen.
As they enjoyed each other’s company and visits from Goofy, Charlie helped Emerson pick out her dinner and order it. Charlie could honestly say this was the most fun that he had had in a long time, but he should’ve known that with Emerson’s intelligence, there was more to this date than just having fun.
“Charlie, when are you going to ask mommy to marry you?” Charlie choked on his water, not expecting the question from the curious little girl. “Mommy said I wasn’t allowed to ask you because it was rude”
“Not rude at all Emmy, but why are you asking me that?” he was genuinely curious, thinking that maybe Riley had been venting to her subconsciously again, or that Emerson overheard a conversation with one of her friends.
“I heard Aunty Savannah teasing her the other day over the phone and mommy got really red in the face. I think you should ask her, I know she’d say yes” Charlie’s eyes grew wide as Emerson nonchalantly recounted the conversation her mother had the other day. Emerson continued to color in the coloring book Charlie bought her earlier.
“Do you want me to ask mommy to marry me?” Emerson nodded her head as soon as the question came out of his mouth. “How come?” the question was meant to be playful, but Emerson’s reply was serious.
“Because I want to be able to call you daddy.”
Charlie felt a lump in his throat.
“I’ve never had a daddy. It’s always been mommy and me. If you marry mommy, then you can be my daddy.” she paused to take a sip of her juice. “I think you’d make a great daddy”.
Charlie wiped away a tear that threatened to fall from his eyes and cleared his throat, feeling emotional. He took a sip from his water and took a deep breath. “You think so, Emmy?”
She nodded her head, continuing to color in her book. “Plus Justina at daycare said that in order for me to have a little brother or a little sister, you have to have a daddy AND a mommy.” Charlie chuckled at the little girl, and got up to kiss her on the head, hugging her too.
“Got any ideas on how I should ask Mommy to marry me?” Emerson forgot about her coloring in that moment as her eyes sparkled with excitement over Charlie’s question.
“Well...I have a couple ideas...”

BTS Reaction | Revealing Your Child [Request]
Tumblr media
A/N: @akakasvx I hope this is okay for you! I know you said misbehaving but I already had a scolding your child one so I thought I would try to make things different.
Seokjin:
You and Jin already had another son together but when he was born you kept him hidden away for a while, deciding together that it would be better to spend more time together as a family before announcing him to the media and Army but it hadn't worked out that well. Many people didn't agree with the way you had handled things and thought it would be better announcing your child right away instead of waiting as you had done before. So this time it was different, a week after coming home from the hospital with your daughter, you, Jin and your son all get ready to do a family VLive to show Army you new daughter and talk to them about her.
"What do you think of your little sister?" Jin questioned, he was reading questions as fast as he could but the chat was moving way too fast for you to keep up with so you had no idea how Jin was managing it.
"She's so small and cute," You smiled at your son who was currently holding his baby sister in his arms, he was only five so you and Jin were both watching him carefully.
"I'll protect her when she's older, uncle Namjoon told me I have to protect her." You held back a giggle as you remembered the conversation they'd had one day, you walked in to find Joonie telling your son all the tricks to being an older brother as well as the responsibilities that came along with it.
"Do you want more younger brothers or sisters?" You asked as you took your sleeping daughter back into your arms and rocked her a little,
"Yes! I want a big family, with 10 little sisters and 5 brothers." You choked on the air you were inhaling and Jin started laughing so hard that the phone was shaking.
"T-That's- No," You laughed making your son laugh but you were sure he had no idea why he was laughing along with you, he just didn't want to feel left out of the fun you and Jin were having.
"Any more questions?" You asked Jin, trying to skip over the 15 more kids that your son wanted you to have, Jin was still laughing in the background while trying to find questions for you all to answer.
Tumblr media
Yoongi:
It was your first pregnancy and you'd been blessed with twin boys which at first, seemed daunting but it was fine in the end. You and Yoongi were always making it work and had been for the last four years.
"Do you think they'll be okay?" You asked while nervously staring out of the black SUV window, you were at the airport to take your boys on their first holiday and the placed was filled with cameras. Your son's had only ever been caught on camera once and that was when you were leaving the hospital, all of the other times they would be hidden from cameras. No one was allowed to upload their photos onto the internet and no one was allowed to take photos without explicit permission first. It was all for their privacy but now they were getting older it was harder to hide them from the reporters and so it was time for them to be seen. You were more nervous about it that Yoongi was but you were ready, today wasn't about the cameras. It was about their first-ever holiday.
"They'll be fine, are you?" You nodded and the door slid open to reveal that the main entrance to the airport was flooded with reporters, it reminded you of when the boys or any idol went away on a plane.
"Let's do this," You whispered taking your first son by the hand while Yoongi took your second, they both held hands in the middle and you all walked calmly towards the entrance. Smiling and waving the cameras as you used to when you first started dating Yoongi. The boys kept turning to look at the reporters - fascinated by what was happening around them, while you and Yoongi focussed on keeping them from falling over.
Your child's photos were all over the internet and printed magazines everyone was talking about how they had inherited different aspects, they had Yoongi's eyes but your nose or ears. It really warmed your heart to see everyone talking to the kids well, eve Army who had held off on seeing them for so long was tweeting about how it was worth the wait.
Tumblr media
Hoseok:
Your daughter had always wanted to go and see her dad in concert, she knew what he did for a living but the concerts were always so late whenever they had them so you promised to take her to a soundcheck instead. You were waiting backstage with her so she could watch from the side but she was getting agitated about not being able to watch it properly like everyone else. You would have taken her out into the small crowd of people that had gotten soundcheck tickets but she was only 3 and had only been seen by Army a couple of times before this. Hoseok wanted to wait until the right time to reveal her to everybody.
"Wait here princess, Daddy is doing his job." But she was getting to the age where she was too crafty for her own good, she slipped out from the reins you had her on and made a quick escape for the stage. Rushing out and grabbing onto Hoseok's leg as he spoke into the microphone, you stood at the side of the stage not knowing what to do. Hoseok bent down and smiled at everyone in the small crowd.
"I guess now is a good a time as any." He chuckled looking at you and nodding for you to walk towards him. You bent down so you were standing on the other side of your daughter who was now blushing and hiding her face in her dad's arm.
"Do you want to introduce yourself?" Hoseok held the microphone to her lips and she shook her head, hiding further into his arms as everyone ''awe'd'' at her.
"She's a minx, escaping from her reins." Hoseok laughed noticing that they were abandoned at the side of the stage where you had both been standing.
"Do you want dad to sing your favourite song so you can dance?" He questioned and it seemed to brighten up your daughters mood and remove her shyness as she started bouncing up and down and getting ready to play her part.
Tumblr media
(If I was Hobi I would have died...I have an irrational fear of anything with wings...)
Namjoon:
This was something that had been asked for by Army for a while now and it was finally happening. A Run episode which was family-themed. Each boy was paired up with their partner and family and you all had to do certain different tasks or challenges together. This was going to be the first time your child - and the other boy's kids - would be shown on camera for a long period of time. They'd all been caught by photographers before but nothing like this, this was a whole camera crew shooting and everyone was going to see your family.
"You're nervous about the episode aren't you?" Namjoon questioned when he caught you watching your son and Jin's son playing together, you weren't nervous as such. You were just worried about putting your son's face all over the internet.
"Not nervous, just-"
"Want him to grow up and have a normal life?" You nodded and Majoon took your head so you would lay it on his shoulder. You knew that not one aspect of his life was going to be normal but you figured you could try and keep it as normal as possible until it could no longer be avoided.
"He'll be fine, I promise." You smiled softly at Namjoon and you both walked over to your son to get ready for the first task together.
"Who can build the best sandcastle, me or you dad?" You questioned your son who, without hesitation, pointed at his father and left you blinking blankly into the camera that had been filming you both.
"Why?" You questioned after a couple of seconds and your son started laughing,
"Because when we're done he lets me destroy them like a monster in a movie." You started laughing as Namjoon shook his head at your son. He'd watched Lilo and Stitch one time and he thought he could be stitch in the scene where he creates his own town to destroy.
Tumblr media
Jimin:
Another day another fan signing, you were sitting backstage with your two daughters while you waited for JImin to finish and come backstage to you. Normally you would have waited at home but his schedule had been so jam-packed that he decided to bring you all along with him today. Your first daughter and your 3-month-old daughter who still hadn't been shown to media outlets or fans just yet. You were in the middle of talking to a stylist when you felt your eldest daughter starting to rock the pushchair - this was nothing new since she did this a lot to help her younger sister sleep.
"Can I take her for a walk?" You looked at her and smiled, she was 9 years old and loved taking care of her sister. Walking her around the venue in the pushchair and being a good older sister to her.
"Sure sweetie, do you know which way to go?" She nodded and took off in the direction of a small walkway which led back to you in a large circle, she was great with her.
It wasn't until you heard a bunch of people 'awh'ing' that you realised what was happening, you and the stylist ran towards the curtain that separated backstage to the boys and saw Jimin standing there holding his baby girl and your daughter was sitting on the table looking at fans. You rushed out onto the stage and Jimin chuckled,
"She just wanted to show off her sister, isn't that right?" You daughter nodded and looked up at you. You never could stay mad at her since she had her fathers eyes but you were nervous about what management would have to say about all of this.
"Does anyone have any questions for my girls?" You smiled backing off the stage and leaving the boys and your daughters to do their own thing while you watched from behind the stage. You hoped it wasn't going to be a problem with management since everyone in the room was enjoying in imprompt q&a with Jimin's family.
Tumblr media
Taehyung:
You stared down at the Happy Holiday card with a smile on your face, it was the first Holiday card you would be sending out with your new little family on it. Before it was normally just you and Tae, or you, Tae and the boys but this year it was you, Tae and your daughter who was asleep in your arms - dressed up in the cutest little outfit.
"Show me again," Taehyung chuckled as he came into the living room. You handed him one of the cards and he chuckled taking it over to the cupboard you had under the stairs. Inside was filled with memory boxes from your daughter's life already, there was her first pair of shoes and socks that she'd grown out of, as well as her baby wrist band from the hospital.
"She's growing up too fast," You complained as you watched him slid the card into a folder of photographs of her.
"We can always make more." You groaned at the thought of being pregnant again, it wasn't going to happen for a long time. You were still trying to forget the pains of her kicking your ribs at all hours of the night.
The holiday cards had been sent out to family, friends and staff members and some had been sent to fans who had the fan membership with BigHit, all personally signed by both you and Taehyung. Everyone adored the way you had revealed your child to everyone and found it adorable the way she looked in the little costume you'd both picked out for her.
Tumblr media
Jungkook:
"One photo and don't get me in it." You groaned to Jimin who was standing at the end of your hospital bed begging for a photo of you, your son and Jungkook altogether as one big happy family.
"You have to be in it, it's a family photo. It's for us anyway," You whined as Jungkook laughed at you being so picky about this. But you looked like you hadn't slept in a week and you'd just given birth four hours ago. You wanted to do nothing but sleep and spend time with your baby, not have a small photoshoot with Jimin and Jungkook. It was your first son and you wanted to spend all the time you could with him and his father before he had to leave again. The camera snapped the photo and you went back to smiling down at your sleeping son, you were enjoying how quiet he was but if he was anything like his dad he was going to be one of the loudest kids on the planet. Not to mention crack headed just like his dad is.
"Shit." You both looked up at Jimin to see what was wrong when your phone started to buzz in your handbag.
"You didn't..." You whispered not even having to look at your phone to realise what Jimin had done. Jungkook took out his phone to check,
"He did." On the screen was a photo on the official BTS twitter, you, your son and Jungkook all sitting together on the hospital bed.
"Manager Sejin is going to have your head on a stick." You laughed looking at the photo, your son wasn't supposed to be revealed for another month to give you time to settle down into your newly found family.
"It was an accident, I meant to send it to the private account and I just slipped." You let out a whine and Jungkook started laughing about it, you were glad he was seeing the funny side of it because you knew his manager wasn't going to.

my top 10 favourite game characters
im not much of a gamer person as i normally watch random stuff on youtube, draw or read goosebumps books, but when i do play games, HOLY CRAP some of the game characters i encounter are flipping awesome. i wont give much information about these characters away because i dont want to give out spoilers. so i made a top 10 list of my favourite game characters (in my opinion)
(i dont own any of these gifs, characters or games)
number 10 = Lisa from PT Silent Hill
Tumblr media
ah lisa, the first ever game character to scare the ever living hell out of me and cause major paranoia whenever i was alone. and thats what i love about her. to me, making me feel paranoia and having me look behind my back constantly, thats true horror to me and its flipping awesome. i also like her design as shes disturbing and the way she walks towards you while twitching violently as well as making noises that sounds like shes sobbing, perfect horror dude
number 9 = Nemisis from Resident Evil 3

imagine if jake got home late/early, walked into the kitchen and sees chucky just rummaging through the fridge like that scene from lilo and stitch

Honestly the chainsaw following Lilo is the one thing I wish they’d kept. The others can all be justified for story reasons in one way or another but the chainsaw following Lilo just has a punch that’s stuck with me ever since I first saw the scene. It just brings home the idea that Stitch is dangerous all the more, because by this point in the movie he’s changed and he’s not using Lilo as a human shield anymore, he came to her for help this time rather than to hide behind her…but even when he’s not directly endangering her, he still actively creates danger that she ends up in the middle of. He didn’t intend for the chainsaw to endanger Lilo but it does anyway.
Idk to me it just speaks to this idea that being good takes a bit more effort than simply not doing bad.
Also for a line as memorable as “my dog found the chainsaw” that chainsaw was taken out of the game way too soon in the final version XD
I found out recently that the Stitch and Jumba fight was actually altered quite a bit for the theatrical release.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of these changes I can definitely understand, especially moments like the chainsaw which followed Lilo in the old cut.
