My piece for the artbook "Witch: What if?" (Ukrainian) My part of the story about Lilian who's grown up and learning to be the Heart of the Earth! And Phobos is her teacher :D

Long long ago I did some pairing photos of Milo and Peppi in front of the tree. Milo is just perfect for the soft lights, but I somehow didn't show Lilian in ages.

As much as I love Milo with Peppi, Lilian and Milo is even better (they are both poly and very open with their partners btw).

For a brief moment, Silas thought he was dreaming.

He felt like he was looking into a mirror, a mirror that was suspended in the past and unable to move forward.

His own face looked right back at him. Only younger. Decades younger.

They both stared at each other in silent shock, struggling to comprehend what they were looking at. It was undoubtably Silas, with those piercing eyes and rough scars and unreadable expression.

"You're..." The younger Silas spoke first. His voice came out raspy and pained from lack of use. "Me?"

Silas nodded, but couldn't form any words. He simply gazed silently at this younger him who couldn't be any older than 14. The sudden sharp twinge of pain in Silas' tail reminded him that this... this kid was either currently going through or about to go through one of the worst times in his entire life.

"Do things... get better?"

Silas was caught off guard by the question. He almost couldn't answer at first. He looked the other up and down, a ripple of phantom pain coiling down his back to the end of his tail as he took in every detail.

Skeletal. Hollow cheeks. Sickly grey skin stretched taught over protruding ribs. Hair knotted and dirty and falling out. Eyes dull and lifeless. Hopeless.

Silas wasn't big by any means, but next to this soulless husk of a teenager he looked bulky. His skin was a deep flourishing purple, his eyes were, although tired, shining bright, and his ribs were no longer visible. He was still underweight but he wasn't... starving.

"It does," Silas said finally, speaking softly. "It's hard and it takes a long time, but... it gets better. You get out."

There was a flicker of disbelief on the other's face. "What..?"

"You get out." Silas repeated. "It's difficult, but you do. You get out and you have a home and you run a business. It's slow and you don't have the best reputation but you aren't fighting for scraps anymore. You-"

Silas took in a sharp breath and brushed his fingers against the necklaces around his neck. "You find a partner. He's gone now, but I don't regret it and neither will you. I- you have a son. Two, actually."

The mix of surprise and mild disgust on the other's face nearly made Silas laugh. He'd never liked kids when he was younger, especially at that age.

But back then, well, it was to be expected. Children were a dangerous burden to have in the Abyss and were more beneficial as a quick meal. That and... Silas couldn't stop thinking of Mei and that- that harpoon.

"It's not as bad as you think."

The younger Silas gazed at him with a conflicted expression. His sunken eyes were narrowed with suspicion and disbelief, but that faint flicker of hope and wonder was hard to miss.

Silas didn't bother with listing the bad things. Not to avoid dashing that hope, but because it wasn't necessary.

Losing Emrys, being hospitalised, the social isolation, being hated by all but a select few, nearly having his baby forcefully taken from him, still being stuck scraping money together, being treated like a child eating monster... it was all a given. A peaceful and problem-free life was never in Silas' future and never will be. They both knew that.

But he would manage it. Grit his teeth, fix the wound, and carry on the next day. It's what he always did. And being able to watch Finn grow up... it was worth it.

Younger Silas nodded slowly. The barest hint of a smile crossed onto his face. "...Okay."
